Pakistan v Sri Lanka | 2nd Test | Karachi | 19th-23rd December, 2019 | Day 2 Thread

That 5fer brings Shaheen's average to under 30. Now averaging 29.

shaheen has been brilliant

next big thing for pakistan, finally an exciting prospect after amir

Shaheen learning to bring the ball back into the right handers is probably the biggest plus in last couple of months along with obviously Babar’s class.

Agreed, he's progressing very well.

He's my favourite player in the side.

Shaheen is more valuable for Pakistan cricket right now than Babar.

I hope PCB and the TM realise this and don't overwork him.

Pak needs to score atleast close to 300 in this inning to give themselves a chance. As I am not sure if Pak’s inexperienced lineup can defend anything less than 200 here.

NAseem Shah really needs to click in the second innings, if he wants himself to be retained for the next Test series, otherwise I can foresee Shinwari 2.0 in him (Shinwari was dropped after his first international game for few years).

Best batting conditions now in this Test. Need to go big.

300 in 3rd innings by our batsmen!!!! Even 200 will be too much for our batsmen. Too many dead woods and tailenders cannot score even 5 together if Yasir fall early.
No hope from Azhar, Shan, Haris and Shafiq

Naseem has the talent just needs some game time like Shaheen who played quite a few white ball matches before debuting in tests.

Masood needs to stand up here so does Azhar when he comes to bat as its due big time for both.

Bhai Dont say that. Babar is one hell of a find for us in the last 15 yrs. bowlers we always find but Batsmen we dont. I really hope Babar continues to follow Kohli book of advices and keep performing.

If Anyone PCB needs to get rid is Misbah. He was the one who didnt allow any youngsters to develop and continue playing his buddies in the team. His phase was the worse For pakistan cricket. He damages more than anyone else did.

The openers need to bat aggressively, if not, then send in Shaheen and Yasir to open and tell them to go bang bang, once the trail is reduced then the batsmen can do the job easily.

Pak’s performance aside the pitch has been pretty decent for entertaining test cricket and groundsmen deserve the credit to make it as Pak management wanted.

He has big back up from every angle of PCB, former players and PM. Nothing will happen. Misbah will coach even 2023 World Cup qualifier

So far it has been a good Test match. We will get a result that for sure. 300 target will be more than enough.

For that Pak needs to score 380 which looks difficult on this wicket and that would require big runs from one of top 4.

Good intent and strike rotation from Pak till now. Needs to keep it going for atleast 60-70 more runs.

Top 4 contains a medioce opener and tail ender at number 3

Don't take me wrong but this notion of "we always produce bowlers" is the sole reason why Pak has a below par bowling attack .. especially in Tests. You guys were forced to play three teenagers in Australia of all places due to shortage of experienced quality pace bowlers. That doesn't quite shout out "producing bowlers all the time".

Off-topic, but that was a scary tremor (Earthquake) in Peshawar. I hope everyone is safe in other parts of Pakistan.

abid ali is by far the best pakistani opener i have seen in last 10 12 years.

Its a shame Pak selectors in the last 2 decades have rarely been able to identify talent built for international cricket.

Agreed. Also I believe Pak bowling gets too carried away on occassions and doesnt do the basics right. Skills are useless if you cant hit the right lines and lengths consistantly.

oh dear..yasir shah should be put to bin after this....how much spin did he just get then

Embuldenya straight away on the money. Needs to somehow neutralize him by few sweep shots and carefully charging. Pitch does have a bit of turn so careless charging would mean loosing the wixket.

I agree.

What's your opinion of Shaheen? How many test wickets do you see him getting for Pakistan? Reason I ask is because Pakistan have failed to produce a 200+ wicket taking pacer since the debut of Waqar Younis (in 1989).

If he stays fit, he can easily take 250+ in both Tests and ODIs.

Pakistan always had quality bowlers, it is just that the selectors made it seem that pak has none

juniad khan, sadaf hussain, asad ali, mir hamza, tabish khan. barring junaid khan, these bowlers were never given any chance.

these quality bowlers had the potential to perform at international level, but average bowlers like rahat ali and others were selected and wasted the careers of many talented bowlers

You have to like Abid Ali's focus and commitment. What a find. I hope he doesn't become lazy.

Day 3 is usually the best time for batsman irrespective of the wicket.

I still maintain that Pakistan is firmly in driver's seat. They have to bat quite horribly to lose this Test from here on.

Best part about Abid is the fact that he is constantly on the lookout for runs. Imagine Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam in this situation.

I see what you are doing trying everything to jinx our whatever quarter grip we have on this match so far lol

Masood needs to maybe use the crease as Fernando isnt that fast but pretty accurate as he showed in SA as well.

Tracking down this 80 runs lead this quickly takes immense pressure off the whole team the risk and fear of getting bowled out for a low score goes away

Shan needs to sort himself here. Looking pretty limited in his scoring areas as was the problem in Aus as well until his last innings.

Lol! Shan is carrying Abid’s helmet while Abid is facing the spinner

40/0 need to make it to close of play 0 wickets down.

All legside which means hes not even rotating the strike.

Sri Lanka have been unlucky to be honest. Haris’ lucky wicket of a well set Chandimal has turned the match on its head.

Hopefully Shan shuts up the haters with a ton here. Don’t really want to see the overacting Imam back in the team again.

Good thing for Pak is there isnt much spin and Srl only has two pacers along with Mathews of he balls. Pitch looks to have overall settled a little bit but still enough from seamers of the good deliveries.

M surprisee to see naseem not swing the ball at all in fhis match. He was getting good shape away from right handers in first test and even in australia he moved it a bit sideways

Wow. Abid’s stroke play arguably is only 2nd to Babar here. Haris also looks good when in touch havent been seeinf much of that recently.
