Really need to bring an end to this annoying streak.

--------------------------------------------

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed is hoping to end his team's losing streak against New Zealand in the upcoming one-day international series.

The last time Pakistan won an ODI series against New Zealand was back in 2011. Since then, Kane Williamson's side have been dominant – they bear Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates 3-2, and later, swept every bilateral series at home.

"Most of the matches that we've lost were in New Zealand," Ahmed pointed out on the eve of the upcoming series.

"We have been performing well in the bowling, but it is our batting department that needs some fine-tuning in ODIs. Especially, our top-order. Our struggle starts from there as we tend to lose early wickets and then fail to make a comeback in the match.

"Even if we do so, then we post 240-250, which is not good enough while playing against good sides. We have talked to our top-order batsmen regarding this that we need them to spend time on the wicket and set up a platform for the rest of the batting line-up."

Pakistan, the No.1 side in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings, have proved themselves time and again in the shortest format – they recently swept both Australia and New Zealand 3-0 in the UAE.

However, with the ICC Men's World Cup 2019 fast approaching, Ahmed wants to carry forward the T20I momentum in their remaining 18 ODIs ahead of the marquee tournament.

"It's very important for us (to turn the tide) and improve our ODI team performances," Sarfraz admitted. "We have to display good performances in the 18 matches ahead of the World Cup.

"Especially in this series, we should try to make the most of the momentum that we have got ... of course, this series will be very important for the World Cup preparations. A win here, that we call our home, will give us confidence when we travel to South Africa. Our preparations have begun for the World Cup already. As it is approaching near, we are working more on it."

Lol past doesn't matter,we lost t20s to them in past too, this is the new look Pakistan filled with rising talent and experience too, should be easy win for us in these conditions where we are so dominant.

Fakhar
Imam
Babar
Haris
Malik
Hafeez
Sarfraz
Faheem
Shadab
Hassan
Afridi

Hafeez must bat at no. 6 because there are lots of players who can play the first 40 overs and we need someone like hafeez who can unleash in last ten overs alongwith sarfraz and faheem shadab to make a decent total. I dont want to see asif in the playing eleven as he wont be an asset in ODI's

Fakhar needs to get his act together in Asia, no 50+ score in over 20 innings is awful. Hafeez should bat at #6 & Shaheen should play at any cost. No Asif please in ODI's, Imad should play ahead of Faheem.

1. Imam
2. Fakhar
3. Babar
4. Malik
5. Sarfaraz
6. Hafeez
7. Imad
8. Shadab
9. Hasan
10. Shaheen
11. Junaid

Shocking record mentioned in OP. Never thought it was so bad

We have lost 21 out of our last 27 ODIs since the 2015 World Cup against Australia, New Zealand, England, India and South Africa.

We have not beaten NZ in an ODI series since 2011, losing our last four ODI series against them.

Against non-minnows in 2018, not a single batsman has an average above 35. We have got to improve massively in ODI cricket so this series is so important to get back on track before the World Cup.

Did PAK name 12 for this game? NZ batting first here - should be a tight contest with Boult back.

fakhar imam babar hafeez malik sarfaraz shadab imad hassan shaheen junaid

Asif Ali dropped for Hafeez, was bound to happen, but that batting line-up will seriously struggle against 300 plus targets even if Fakhar fires

Lower-order is still in shambles though. Specialist Captain at #6 and a glorified tail-ender at #7.

Both Hafeez and Malik will have to fire.

Faheem dropped.

Harsh he's been bowling really well.

Batting looks extremely weak. Good to see Asif Ali and Faheem out.

Harris Sohail should play all ODIs. He is unfairly treated.

Both sides playing three out-and-out pacers; that tells me Haris should be playing, especially given he played Ferguson with ease in NZ.

Don't like this team.

Not sold about Imam at all. Slow at the start and an accumulator; wonder when are we going to make Babar open for white ball cricket entirely.

Imad may bowl well in t20's but he doesn't offer that much in the longer format.

Not sure about Junaid too. Too early to put that much pressure on Shaheen.

The less said about senior players the better.

All of these might go on to embarrass me in this match but this isn't the team that we should be moving forward to.

Tough on Haris, I guess his last performance in the Asia cup will keep him away from the playing 11. Asif Ali is fifty-fifty, I want him but he's also neither consistent nor that good, Faheem needs to play as the third seamer but that idea doesn't appeal to management so it's kinda obvious he wouldn't feature.

This is a very stale team and unless someone has an exceptional day, you can easily see that this team can't put modern totals on board. One dynamic batsman and that is all. And very average bowling line-up with no express fast bowler or high-quality spinner. And a couple of seniors to boot.

As Pakistan is batting 2nd, Hafeez at 4 is ok. But if we are to bat 1st, I'd have Hafeez at 6 and Sarfraz at 4. We have no firepower at the death if Hafeez bats at 4. His hitting is very underrated and could take on the finishing role for the World Cup.

Yes we saw ur dominance in Asia cup.
I think there are good chance of nz to win bcz odi is different from t-20. My bet 50-50

I think not having Haris in the XI is extremely poor planning for the WC, and a serious waste of resources for a team which is quite weak in the batting department.

I'd play Haris for Imad. Hafeez and Haris can make up the 5th bowler quota in the UAE.

Against nonminnows in 2018 amongst batsmen who've played a minimum of 4 innings - Fakhar Zaman has been our best batsman despite only averaging 30 !

The Zimbabwe series inflated the averages of our batsmen.

Fakhar Zaman is a con artist. He has played all of his good innings against minnows except for CT final inning.

Hopefully Pak can get Williamson early and carry out this intensity throughout the match

Played some decent knocks in our 5-0 whitewash to New Zealand early this year, also played well against Australia in the T20 tri-series in Zimbabwe.

That Australian team was worse than Zimbabwe which is currently playing against Bangladesh.

Looks like a better wicket than usual Abu Dhabi, good carry. But, SSA is also like 6'5"; but a faster wicket definitely.

Would have been out if he had hit.

Waqar thinks alot,

"i think that" "i think he" "i think ..."

Shaheen has had a lot of catches dropped already in his short career

Asad & Haris are better slip catcher than Babar, but it was quite regulation. Probably, it was at his wrong (left) side - bottom palm wasn't at right place.

Babar pulled off a stunning catch at short leg in the Australia series yet drops a sitter at slip here - how ?

Man, its so depressing playing in these empty stadiums. ODI cricket against a top side would bring a pumped up crowd in Pakistan. Sad times.

Babar has generally been pretty good in the slips which just makes the drop even more disappointing

Hopefully that drop won't cost us. With the very aggressive way Munro is batting we may create more chances.

Still H2H is in favor of PAK at 53/47, that's after 11-0 run, which actually tells what happened between 1975 to 2000.

Shaheen will be new Amir when it comes to dropped catches. Lol

It won't help for the confidence of the youngster.

You can't drop Munro. Babar better make up for it while batting, at the same STR. Rate as Munro's

Same is with India. We should be thankful that India is not playing bilaterals with us or we could get rid of that proud H2H record as well.

Junaid bowling at gentle 80 mph pace can't be better than playing Mohd Amir or even Abbas here. No pressure from his side.

What a talent shaheen is, he has everything in his weaponary at this age

I thought, you are Indian :) Welcome to PP.

May be not playing against IND is probably one major reason of PAK's decline - these days including Chairman, what PCB jokers are doing 7 months before WC, I doubt if there was a regular 10-12 game series in every 2 years with IND how many of these people would have been talking now, instead of trying to save own chair.

VERY fortunate that dropped catch didn't cost too much.

What a poor review from Munro and Williamson. Just desperation of how much williamson wanted munro to be there

People were calling for Shaheen to work on his variations during the T20 series - well here's a slower ball and he's got the dangerman out.

NZ is weaken a lot without Guptill. Williamson should be desperate. If he/Taylor gets out cheaply, Pakistan will win easily.
