Bail needs to be completely dislodged, you can't see the bail completely removed until after the bat crosses the line. Therefore the third umpire can't give it out, quite simple really.
The bail does not have to be completely dislodged, it just has to be disturbed. In this case the bat was on the line when the bail was distrubed and hence the batsman should be out.

We'll just have to wait till the 2nd new ball and hope that Asif can do some more damage.

Oh dear, looks like I'm going to have to educate people again. Here are the laws then, pay attention people:

Law 28 (The wicket is down)

1. Wicket put down
(a) The wicket is put down if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground by
(i) the ball.
(ii) the striker's bat, whether he is holding it or has let go of it.
(iii) the striker's person or by any part of his clothing or equipment becoming detached from his person.
(iv) a fielder, with his hand or arm, providing that the ball is held in the hand or hands so used, or in the hand of the arm so used.
The wicket is also put down if a fielder pulls a stump out of the ground in the same manner.

(b) The disturbance of a bail, whether temporary or not, shall not constitute its complete removal from the top of the stumps, but if a bail in falling lodges between two of the stumps this shall be regarded as complete removal.

So erm yeah, you were saying something about disturbing the bails?

Thank you for the evidence. That may be the law but thats not how its interpreted in practice. In making a run-out desicion the umpire always makes a judgement upon first impact with the bails. Thats how every run-out desicion has been made even before the introduction of the 3rd umpire.

Ahaha, complete rot. That's why Salman Butt was given not out against England then? Why everybody said the wrong decision was made when Dhoni was given out a couple of weeks ago?

Aye right, the laws are "interpreted" differently in real life. Keep on clutching at straws dude. First the laws don't say they need to be removed, then it's "oh it's different in practice".

Keep on digging.

In fact are you related to Kabir000?

Even in the face of overwhelming evidence you try and claim that it's a victory, simply stunning.

Im not claiming victory, im having a discussion. In my view I thought the bat was on the line when the wicket was disturbed and that to me is out and has always been out for as long as I can remember.

So you accept it was the correct decision from the 3rd umpire then?

Lets hope we can finish this off quick!! I really want Asif to get his 1st 5-for

Once Samaraweera falls, the rest will fold like beach umbrellas!!

I think it was a wrong decision. It was a close one and thats possibly why in went in favor of the batsmen but I think upon the evidence provided it was out. Even the commentators said he was lucky to be out there.

Just checked the score (on cricinfo) and LOVELY to see the W !!!!!
C'MON....Zindanbaad!

Please anything below 250!!!!!!!!!!
Zindabaaaaaaad!

what the f#%k" is wrong with this bloody GUL???

You bloody fool....line and length, line and Length!

Thanks to GUL....now I'm hoping for anything less than 300.

C'Mon Pakistan.....keep working bad bwoyz!!!

So it's the wrong decision even though the laws of the game themselves say it should be not out?!?! :14:

And as for the commentators half of them don't know the laws themselves so I wouldn't trust them as far I could throw Arjuna Ranatunga

This Gul is beginning to make my blood boil. Does anyone know anything about him?...did he ever go to school???? bloody crap concentration levels or what....

83.5 Gul to Kulasekara, no run, good length outside off, Kulasekara plays at it and is beaten
83.4 Gul to Kulasekara, no run, good length delivery, swung away, Kulasekara beaten up, great delivery!

Easy champ, we still in a decent position :)

Yeah true...but all it takes is for a lapse in concentration by one pendoo, and then we're back to square one.

C'Mon Pakistan...keep concentrating! Line and Length, Line and Length, Line and Length....

Yes, because thats the way the law has been interpreted in close decisions. You have informed me of the law, its just that I don't see it being practiced that way. It could be a case of ignorance but Ive always felt that the bail didnt have to be completely dislodged for the umpire to make the decision.

That's Asif's first 5-fer in test cricket :*)
An intelligent bowler from what we have seen of him so far.

The 1st of many 5fers:)

84.5 Asif to Malinga, no run, pitched up and moving away, Malinga had no clue about it, terrific bowling!

Ballay ballay!!!! this guy's for real!!!!

Zindabaad! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I'm at work so trying not to shout out!!!!!!!!!

C'mon....give me one more.........please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we can more of this from Asif to come!!!

This is just the beginning

u guys on this site hype up the pak bowlers, the decent bowlers pak have r shoaib and asif, umar gul is the most overrated bowler ever and ive seen this irshad guy bowl and he is about as good as ajit agarkar

bowling beautifully. Pins malinga on the back foot then bowls a yorker.

This Gul better not mess it up from the other end....my blood is already boiling now.

Line and Length Line and Length line and length!

One more wicket ...........please Pakistan!

Well said

You gotta feel for Asif out there.

Hes had to do all the work himself

Gul down the other hand is giving away easy boundaries

iqbal sikander said:
shabbir ahmed would play way ahead of gul and irshad, kaneria bowls well against weaker teams
He may well bowl illegally, but I see your point - well said again

Don't care about anyone else....who ever it is just bowl Line and Length.....please. Basics, that's all I ask for.

Bloody amateurs!

and why is there an obsession with pace? matthew hoggard bowls at 125-130 and i'd rather have him in my team then sami, irshad, rao, gul etc.

abhout time gul was taken off. I think razzaq will be able to exert more control than gul at this moment.

Umar Gul 23 3 83 0 3.61

Its been forgettable...especially in his last few overs

Not long now till stumps...SL will probaly continue batting tomorrow now

The law has always been that way and always has been interpreted that way. It's difficult for umpires to spot it before the advent of TV replays so disturbance = removal in those days but no 3rd umpire worth his salt would have given Bandara out.

Just because umpires don't know the laws doesn't make it acceptable, I've just read on another cricket forum about an umpire no-balling a bowler because his front foot landed too far BEHIND the popping crease.

Well if Guls bowling badly then its Inzis duty to switch bowlers. Wy not bring in Razzak to stop the flow of boundaries. Mediocre captaincy.
