Pervaiz Elahi freed from jail after Lahore High Court order [Post# 577]

I just can't trust PE because he is part parcel of thr Generals mafia in collusion with the crooked families. The Chs serve no purpose but to serve GHQ.

Let's see. This is not what PDM wanted and tried their desperate to make it not happen as evidenced by Zardari's desperate meetings yesterday. Let's see if assemblies are dissolved or not.

I just saw that. The Generals feeling the heat and can't force and blackmail to do their bidding

IK's speech today was very aggressive too, the most he's ever been. So lets see I feel next day or so we will get a clear picture

The legend of Pakistan politics is this man. (came to know about him only last year) and it seems he never sets a wrong foot forward.

The legend of Pakistan politics is this man. (came to know about him only last year) and it seems he never sets a wrong foot forward.

Seems like this is his last gambit, unfortunately, so have to wait and see if it works or not.

His opponents have sort of figured out that this country will never rise up like Sri Lanka or Turkey therefore for them its simple, first is to somehow rig/win the next election and then wait Khan out, he's already 70 and by the time the next election comes (after this election) he will be in mid 70s. They already have succeeded by shooting him, as he was gaining massive momentum in rallies day by day inching towards Pindi and Islamabad.

The biggest disgrace is that why did it take Imran Khan for the nation to suddenly wake up to how corrupt Nawaz, estb. are? Where was this population in the 90s when anyone with 2 brain cells knew how corrupt PMLN were?

It makes no difference- our Generals have made a promise to someone that they will not allow him back. He threatens them and others because his words arent just empty promises

Tribal mindset. Ie. My dad voted for PLMN, his dad voted for same party so I have to!!

Also remember it was only PTV for decades, a government channel which spewed lies to fool the people. Now social media is around, the youth are more clued up and losing their tribal mindset unless they or their family are or have benefited from corruption.

I just saw a video of some PDM chap trying to break into the parliament , the security guard just moved out the way lol. People are scared of these goons.

You mean Imran or Pervaiz?

If Pervaiz Elahi then I agree - he is a legend for the way he manages to somehow always land on his feet and spring to power.

After much ado, Elahi proves majority
Ruling coalition shows it is backed by 186 lawmakers

Following weeks of political turbulence in Punjab, Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi proved his majority in the provincial assembly, winning the much-hyped vote of confidence amid ruckus and opposition’s boycott in the early hours of Thursday.

The vote of confidence that commenced after midnight concluded with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) coalition showing majority in the provincial legislature with the support of 186 lawmakers – the minimum number of votes required to win the trust vote.

Earlier, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry had announced that Elahi would take the vote “shortly”, followed by the deputy speaker validating it as well. The proceedings thus resumed and Law Minister Raja Basharat tabled the resolution in the house. Later, the members were invited to the house and the voting commenced.

During the tabling of the resolution, members belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) surrounded the speaker’s dais and shouted slogans. As soon as the voting started, the opposition members staged walkout.

OPPOSITION TERMS PERVAIZ ELAHI’S VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ‘ILLEGAL’

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday termed CM Pervaiz Elahi’s trust vote a sham and fraudulent vote that was stolen in the cover of the night, ARY News reported.

Speaking to reporters outside the assembly in the early hours of Thursday, Rana Sanaullah — who witnessed proceedings from the gallery — said the Punjab Assembly proceedings were extended for 7 to 8 hours and the second agenda was issued after 12am which is “against the rules and constitution”.

“The session was dragged on for six to seven hours and then suddenly a new session commenced post-midnight with a new agenda and a vote of confidence was bulldozed.”

“Then how could they do this, after relaxing all the rules,” he added.

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi advised Governor Balighur Rehman on Thursday night to dissolve the provincial assembly, fulfilling the promise to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and paving the way for fresh elections.

Elahi’s son, Moonis, shared a one-line dissolution summary, and the note of its receipt at the governor’s office on his Twitter handle, confirming the latest development. “Promise fulfilled. May we see you back in PM seat soon Imran Khan,” he wrote in a tweet.

“I, Parvez Elahi Chief Minister Punjab, hereby advise you to dissolve the provincial assembly of Punjab,” said the chief minister’s advice to the Governor Rehman on the letterhead of the ‘Chief Minister Punjab’ as shared on Twitter by Moonis Elahi.

Moonis also shared another picture showing the receipt of the advice by the governor’s office. It mentioned the receipt of sealed envelope at 10:10pm on 12 January 2023. “Dissolution (advice) received at Governor House. No way out but elections,” Moonis wrote.

The advice to dissolve the assembly came less than 24 hours after the chief minister obtained the vote of confidence from the Punjab Assembly in the wee hours of Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Governor House received the Punjab Assembly dissolution advice in a sealed envelope shortly after 10pm, as was confirmed by the governor himself in a tweet.

Geo News quoted the governor as saying that dissolving the assembly, which was the representative body of millions of people, would not be an easy decision to take, one he would undertake “with a heavy heart”.

LAHORE: Hinting at a possible merger of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and PML-Q in the days to come, PTI Chairman Imran Khan acknowledged the role played by PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi in helping materialise the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.

In a meeting with the media at his residence on Friday, Mr Khan said the PTI and PML-Q had gotten closer after the latter supported his party in the recent difficult times — from a legal contest with the opposition to eventually the chief minister signing off on the assembly’s dissolution.

Mr Khan had been vehemently seeking the dissolution of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies since announcing his plans for quitting both the houses at the conclusion of his party’s long march in Rawalpindi on Nov 26.

Punjab government asked police to protect an MNA from being taken by the agencies.

This is also why ata tarar and qatil rana were saying ''they'' are monitoring movements of MNAs and claiming that they will 100% be able to buy off enough PTI MNAs and defeat PE in the VONC.

PTI, PML-Q select nominees for caretaker Punjab CM

• Consensus on serving bureaucrat Sukhera, ex-minister Naseer Khan, ex-bureaucrat Khosa
• Elahi says Moonis favours PML-Q merger into PTI, believes differences in PDM will result in Shehbaz losing trust vote

LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and PML-Q on Sunday finalised three consensus candidates as their nominees to be discussed with the opposition leader in the erstwhile Punjab Assembly for the appointment of a caretaker chief minister in the province.

The nominees included Cabinet Secretary Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, former health minister Naseer Khan and former chief secretary Nasir Saeed Khosa.

The inclusion of Mr Sukhera in the panel has surprised many since he is still in service and has a couple of weeks to go till his retirement. He had earlier featured in the panel of candidates for the selection of Punjab chief secretary, but he withdrew his name on the plea that he would be retiring soon.

The audio, slightly longer than a minute, started making the rounds on social media on Monday night. In the clip, Hussain and Wajahat are allegedly strategising on a possible “vote of confidence” in the NA.

Imran Khan offered me Punjab PTI command after merger: Pervaiz Elahi
Punjab CM Pervaiz Elahi said on Tuesday that he had been offered the slot of PTI Punjab President by Imran Khan in case the PMLQ merged with his party

Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Tuesday that he had been offered the slot of PTI Punjab President by Imran Khan in case the PMLQ merged with his party.

However, he made it clear that the PMLQ had to consult its voters and organisations before taking any such decision.

Speaking to the media at a ceremony, the CM Punjab stated that the PMLQ had 10 MPAs in Punjab and they had to consult the people of their constituencies first; so far, no decision had been taken in this regard.

Pervaiz Elahi, while responding to a question related to the show cause notice served on him by PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussein, said Imran was their benefactor whom they could never forget. He said those who had served him the show cause were uncomfortable, but so far, the parties had not taken any decision on merger.

Moreover, sources stated that most of the senior leaders of PTI have opposed the merger idea. They believe that this could seriously harm the party and only benefit the PMLQ because they still believe that Tehreek-i-Insaf is capable of winning the election on its own.

Similarly, some members representing the senior cadre of the PTI think that, with the threat of disqualification already looming over Imran Khan, he must rely on his party stalwarts rather than go for a merger with the PMLQ, whose leadership could ultimately become the beneficiary of a situation like it happened in the case of Mian Azhar.

However, senior party leader Shafqat Mehmood, when contacted, dispelled this impression and stated there had been no objection from anyone to this issue.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday wrote letters to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governors regarding the holding of elections in both provinces, ARY News reported.

The ECP in its letters to Punjab and KP governors has suggested dates for holding elections in both provinces. The ECP has recommended Governor Baligh ur Rehman to hold elections in Punjab between April 09 to 13.

Similarly, the election body has recommended the KP governor for holding elections in the province between April 15 to 17, according to the ECP letter.

After the dissolution of the KP and Punjab assemblies, the government and opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa appointed former bureaucrat Azam Khan as caretaker chief minister.

However, in Punjab, the parliamentary panel comprised of the opposition and government members failed to reach on concensus on the caretaker chief minister.

As per the procedure, the matter was decided by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which named Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab to lead the interim setup in the province.

According to sources, the additional expenses of Rs8 to Rs10 billion will be made on the organisation of general and by-polls in the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces.

The commission will seek the early disbursement of funds from the federal government for general and by-polls

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Friday moved the Supreme Court (SC) against the appointment of Opposition nominee Mohsin Naqvi as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The petition, filed by PTI as a political party, has been moved by PTI General Secretary Asad Umar. The party has urged the Supreme Court (SC) to stop Naqvi from working as the caretaker chief minister.

In the petition, the PTI has also challenged the appointments of ECP members and Raja Riaz as the Opposition leader in the National Assembly.

The federal government, National Assembly Speaker Raja Parvez Ashraf, Leader of the Opposition Raja Riaz, the governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Election Commission of Pakistan, and Punjab caretaker CM Mohsin Naqvi have been named as respondents in the case by PTI.

According to the petition, Mohsin Naqvi does not have the necessary "intellectual and relative experience as well as characteristics" needed to be appointed at the top slot. Equal or better-suited candidates were available and had not been considered consciously, the petition read.

The petition states that Naqvi has no political, administrative or legal experience in ensuring the rule of law, the working of governments, bureaucracy, the requirements of law and/ or the Constitution.

"How the issue of his suitability has been decided so as to result in a 'unanimous' Communication of the Respondent Commission appointing him as the caretaker Chief Minister, is not manifest and in negation to the mandate of the Constitution."

"It is asserted categorically and without reservation that there is not an iota of record which would justify the Respondent No. 7's appointment as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab," it added.

On the other hand, Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has also filed a plea challenging Naqvi's appointment as the interim CM of Punjab.

Decision on FM’s India visit in ‘due course’: FO
As current SCO president, Delhi set to host series of events from May

The Foreign Office on Thursday officially confirmed the Indian invitation for Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to attend the meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), terming it a “standard practice” and saying the decision will be taken in “due course”.

The Express Tribune reported first that India had invited the foreign minister to the SCO meeting scheduled to take place in Goa in May. India being the current president of the SCO is scheduled to host a series of events, including a meeting of the foreign ministers as well as a summit this year.

The meeting of FMs is due to take place in Goa, the tourist destination in south India and the meeting of heads of governments is scheduled to be held in New Delhi in June.

“Both Pakistan and India are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. [The] SCO is an important transregional organisation that aims to strengthen economic linkages and cooperation among its member states in different fields,” spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told a weekly news briefing here.

“India is holding the rotating chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the year 2022-2023. Every year, the SCO develops a calendar of activities, which include the meeting of FMs. In that capacity, the chair extends invitation to all member states,” she explained while replying to a question.

“As in the past, these invitations are being processed as per standard procedures and a decision will be taken in due course,” she added.

This is why PTI should had learn to work with opposition when they were in govt. Back than the law stated that NAB chairman be appointment with consultation with the opposition. But Imran made his own dumb reasons that he cant do that because the opposition are the one charged. He cant decide what to do, its the law that dictates.

Anyways, if you cant negotiate such things, offcourse the opposition will never negotiate with you later. Now that PDM is in govt, why should they compromise for PTI. If PTI has issue with this guy, than there was also a seocnd name, they could had agreed on that second name.

Anyways, ECP is not sitting there for the dramaybazi of these parties, the law allows them to choose any one of the nominees and they did so.

PTI can cry all they want.

They themselves dissolved assemblies, now they have issues with election.. All this party does is whine.

ECP rules Shujaat to remain PML-Q president
Electoral watchdog announces verdict in favour of Shujaat after Elahi moved to oust him from the party

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday declared that Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain would remain the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).

The electoral watchdog also stated that the PML-Q central working committee's move to remove Shujaat as party chief was illegal and declared it null and void.

It furthered that the elections announced by the central committee were also null and void.

Earlier, the ECP had reserved its decision on Shujaat’s plea.

In July last year, Pervaiz Elahi’s group had decided to remove Shujaat and General Secretary Tariq Bashir Cheema from the party’s top posts. However, Shujaat had filed an application with the ECP challenging the decision.

Recently, rifts between the PML-Q widened as the party elected Wajahat Hussain as its central president, formally ending the 19-year rule of his brother Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain, while retaining former chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as the party’s Punjab president.

The decision was taken at PML-Q’s General Council meeting at Muslim League House in Lahore.

Punjab police again laid siege to the house of former Punjab Chief Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PMLQ) leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in Gujarat, but have returned without making any arrest.

As per sources, there were gatekeepers and housekeepers at his residence while no member of Elahi’s family was present, adding that the PML-Q leader was in Lahore while Monis Elahi was out of the country.

Taking to his Twitter, Moonis Elahi shared a video of a heavy contingent of police outside their house. He wrote that the police raided the house without a warrant.

No justification for delaying polls: Elahi
Elahi says judiciary will not allow anyone to violate Constitution

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central leader and former defence minister Pervez Khattak met former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Monday and discussed the political situation as well as the date for elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

During the meeting, Elahi said that there was no justification for delaying the election date after the court’s decision. He remarked that the judiciary stood with the supremacy of the Constitution and would not allow anyone to violate it.

The former CM said that the Election Commission of Pakistan should fulfil its responsibility and release the election schedule immediately.

He called on the governor and the ECP to stop “playing football” on the issue as the nation was seeing how the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was “afraid” of the election.

Khattak said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s popularity was giving sleepless nights to the rulers. “It is the constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission and the governors to announce a schedule for the elections.”

The former federal minister said that after the court’s decision, no attempt to run away from the election would be successful.

He remarked that political revenge in the form of cases could not stop the PTI.

SC asks CEC to submit report on obstacles to holding Punjab elections

Today’s hearing
The hearing began with Justice Ahsan asking about why Dogar was transferred despite apex court orders to the contrary.

Dogar as the Lahore CCPO was at the centre of a tussle between the federal government and the then Punjab government under Chaudhry Parvez Elahi. Dogar booked PML-N leaders in cases and headed the Wazirabad JIT which was probing the attempted assassination of Imran Khan. The Centre tried recalling him, which was blocked by the Punjab government. It ultimately suspended Dogar, but he was reinstated by the top court.

“There were Supreme Court orders, so why was the CCPO still transferred,” Justice Ahsan asked the Punjab advocate general today. “What was the rush to transfer Ghulam Mahmood Dogar?”

“With the election commission’s permission, Dogar was transferred for the second time,” the Punjab government’s lawyer responded.

Justice Ahsan then asked: “What is the role of the election commission in the change of officers?” Justice Naqvi followed up by observing that the election commission’s role came after the announcement of the elections.

“Due to the caretaker setup in Punjab, permission was taken from the election commissioner,” the additional advocate general (AAG) said.

“According to the Constitution, elections are to be held within 90 days after the caretaker setup,” he added.

“Then tell me where the election is,” Justice Ahsan asked.

“Half of Punjab was transferred,” Justice Naqvi remarked. “Is there any district in Punjab where a transfer has not occurred?”

Justice Ahsan then asked: “Was the election commission not aware of the orders of the Supreme Court?” “The election commission is doing everything except its own job,” he remarked.

The court then summoned CEC Raja “immediately”, pausing the hearing for an hour.

About an hour later, the CEC appeared in court and the hearing resumed.

Justice Ahsan observed, “The Constitution obliges to hold elections within 90 days. It is the election commission’s responsibility to hold elections. Not holding the elections within the stipulated time will be going against the Constitution.

“There is no ambiguity within the Constitution about holding elections within 90 days. Holding transparent elections is only the election commission’s responsibility.”

He went on to assert that the “caretaker government cannot make appointments and transfers”, adding that if it intended to make a transfer, it should “submit a request with concrete reasons”.

Justice Ahsan further said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was “obliged to issue an appropriate order after reviewing the reasons”.

To this, the CEC responded, “If the court orders, we will stop the transfer (of the CCPO). If we give the election date, it will be going against the Constitution.

“I am being prevented from exercising my powers and constitutional requirements,” the ECP official lamented.

“When I asked the army for security [for the elections], I was refused. When I asked the judiciary for permission, they refused it. I asked for money for the elections, I was refused that as well.”

Upon hearing this, the Supreme Court directed CEC Raja to submit a detailed report about the obstacles the electoral body was facing in holding the elections and adjourned the case’s hearing till Friday (tomorrow).

Real doorandeshi by PE, and a stain on PTI so barring IK, PTI to be led by PE,amazing Est at its best

I don't like PE and never will. Although he stood with IK when under intense pressure from the Generals. And although he has realised that the Generals will use you and abuse you if you don't play ball, he still isn't to be trusted.

It's a strategy to try and force a nonconfidence on showbaaz. Who at this time would love a way out frankly.

This is horrible! This means that whenever PTI comes into power, PE would be Punjab CM. IK’s 26-year struggle gone down the drain! PE is very shrewd!

The military would be happy because after Khan’ disqualification, PE would become its leader.

Monis who was a nobody until last year will become a future leader now. Masterstroke by Establishment and PE.

In a statement, the PTI president said that MQM-P suffered immense political loss following its alliance with the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

Pervaiz Elahi alleged that there is a perception in their ranks that there is no point in continuing the alliance with the PDM.

The former Punjab CM further said that the Balochistan government and the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) also have strong reservations about the incumbent government’s anti-Constitution and anti-national policies.

Mission Parvez Elahi failed; 27 arrested in late-night raid at PTI president’s residence
Police arrests 27 people during the late-night operation that lasted almost 8 hours; Imran Khan condemns incident

The Punjab Police Friday raided the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi to arrest him. The PTI has strongly criticised the police's actions, voicing concerns regarding arrests of its workers and leaders.

The eight-hour long police action came to a halt after Sohail Zafar Chattha, the Director General of Punjab's Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), left the scene along with the police contingent.

Chattha, talking to the media persons at the former chief minister's residence, denied any wrongdoing. He said that they did not act illegally and that a petrol bomb was thrown at the police party who came to arrest Elahi.

He noted that the action was initiated by individuals at Elahi's residence, who were not cooperating with the police. Chattha's appointment as DG ACE was objected to by the PTI. The Imran Khan-led party also challenged the decision of the Punjab caretaker government in court in February this year.

Earlier, the police and anti-corruption officials partially halted their operation, claiming that although Elahi is not present at his residence, his mobile phone's location shows that he is present there. But after information from the arrested house help that Elahi is at his residence, they resumed it.

At least 27 individuals, includieng servants working in the household of the former Punjab chief minister and PTI workers protesting at the scene have been arrested by the police.

The raid comes hours after the PTI and Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government held talks on election dates, with the former calling for stopping of their workers' arrests, warning that the talks might derail if the law enforcers' actions do not come to a halt.

Analysts said that the pressure tactics of the authorities are giving a boost to Khan's popularity, noting that none of the members from the government's side has faced such late-night raids so far.

In February this year, police raided the former Punjab chief minister's house twice, but returned without arresting him. In March, Punjab Police also raided Khan's Zaman Park residence, which was called off after court orders.

A heavy contingent of police, along with the official of anti-corruption officials, raided Elahi's house. The police cordoned off the Chaudhary Zahoor Elahi Road outside the residence during the operation.

An armoured personnel carrier (APC) of police broke the main gate of the residence after the people inside the house resisted the law enforcers and tried to stop the arrest. Police claim that stones were pelted at them, which injured police personnel and journalists covering the incident.

SP Ammara Shirazi, accompanied by a team of female police officers, entered Elahi's house and conducted a raid. They came back from the house after a brief search.

'No search warrant required'
According to Elahi's lawyer Amir Saeed, the police officials intended to arrest his client, despite him having been granted bail in a case by the Lahore High Court (LHC). Officials from the anti-corruption department then demanded to see the court's bail order during the raid.

Speaking to the media, Elahi's lawyer stated that LHC's Justice Tariq Saleem Shaikh had granted his client pre-arrest bail until May 6. Saeed added that the order of the high court is always received on the next day. "We have made them talk to the court's official over the issue," he said.

Anti-corruption department told the media that the law enforcers have raided the house to inform the PTI president that he had not received bail in the case, but due to the resistance faced from inside, police had to take action.

The officials said that the law enforcers would not leave the location until Elahi's arrest as the location shows him here. "Search warrant is not required [in this case]."

Without giving further details, the officials said that a case has been registered against Elahi in Gujranwala.

“The cause of the incident is not yet known,” Dar told Qureshi.

Punjab caretaker CM regrets police storming into Shujaat's house in bid to arrest Elahi
Punjab's interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi says "no illegal action will be allowed by anyone"

Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed regret over police storming into Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain's house in a bid to arrest former party leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, who is now Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president on Friday night.

A heavy contingent of Punjab Police had raided Elahi's residence in Lahore to arrest him, drawing strong criticism from PTI, which had been voicing concerns against the arrests of its workers and leaders.

Surprisingly, the federal government on Saturday distanced itself from the late-night raid and blamed the Punjab caretaker set-up for the incident.

Taking to Twitter, the caretaker CM, Naqvi responded to a tweet by Shujaat's son, Chaudhry Saalik Hussain, who expressed dismay over whatever had happened.

Naqvi shared that he was in Madina but receiving all the details about the matter, saying that "no illegal action will be allowed by anyone"

"Appalled to know that team went to arrest Ch Pervaiz Elahi but stormed Ch Shaujaat’s House in which Ch Salik Hussain got injured. The law should take it’s course," the interim chief minister wrote.

Earlier, Saalik revealed in his tweet that his paternal aunt (Shujaat's sister), who is also Elahi's sister-in-law (wife's sister) had told the police party that the PTI leader was at the PML-Q leader's house.

"The police did what they did but what our people did not do less," the PML-Q leader had written in the Tweet that contained a video showing police party trying to break in his house.

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain lashed out at the Punjab police on Monday for attempting to enter his Lahore residence during a raid to arrest PTI President Parvez Elahi and termed the action “unacceptable”.

A police and ACE raiding team had conducted a raid at Elahi’s Gulberg residence, late on Friday night and arrested 12 people. The raiding party used an armoured vehicle to break open the main gate of the residence after facing resistance. However, the ACE team could not find Elahi, even after thoroughly searching the house.

The police officials had also tried to force their entry into the adjoining residence of Shujaat, but they were resisted by the PML-Q leader’s sons.

Talking to journalists today, Shujaat addressed the matter and recounted the night’s events, a PML-Q press release said.

Following Lahore, PTI President Elahi's Gujrat residence raided
Moonis Elahi, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi's son, says police did not have a search warrant to conduct raid

Police late Monday night raided the residence of Pakistan Thereek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in Gujrat days after a similar action at his house in Lahore.

Kunjah House, the former CM's residence in Gujrat, was searched by the police for a brief period, with the anti-corruption department — which was involved in the Lahore raid — denying any involvement.

In the Friday night raid, anti-corruption and police officials used an armoured vehicle to break open the main gate of the PTI president's Gulberg residence and arrested 12 people, mostly his employees, from the house.

The police action comes just hours before the crucial talks on elections between the PTI and the multi-party ruling alliance in the centre Pakistan Democratic Movement. The opposition party had already warned that the negotiations could derail if the arrests and raids did not stop.

Moonis Elahi, the former CM's son, alleged that although the police did not have the search warrant to conduct the raid, he allowed them access to the premises.

Former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Tuesday was granted protective bail in two cases — one filed by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) and the other linked to terrorism — in separate hearings conducted at the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Elahi, represented by lawyer Ishtiaq A Khan, was granted bail in the corruption case until May 15 and in the terrorism case until May 4.

The bail was granted as Elahi appeared before the court hours after an LHC bench headed by Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar turned down the PTI president’s petition to stop the police from arresting him.

Elahi had moved the high court after the province’s anti-corruption and police officials carried out a late-night raid at his Lahore residence to arrest him on Friday. However, they were unable to arrest him.
