Not much to write home about when it comes to batsmen at lower age levels but Haider Ali has gained some attention recently due to some good scores. By all accounts, he seems to be a pretty decent prospect.

In the recent tour of Sri Lanka [U19], he made scores of 51, 56 and 93* in the five-match series. Scored at a pretty good strike-rate during the tour.

Pakistan U19 are now touring South Africa and he's started well in the warm-up match with 160.

Seen him bat looked very good, plus he's well built and can hit. What i have seen of him is that at times he just plays across the line which i am sure he will improve. Good to see Naseem Shah back too.

Whatever happened to Zeeshan Malik. Won’t be any different

Poor guy has been around the scene for 4-5 years and in that time has only played 9 List A matches and 8 First Class matches. Very small sample size but averages 60 at excellent SR in List A. Don't ask FC numbers :shezzy

Another one lost to the system.

This kid is strongly built which is a plus point, also he can score big with good hitting abilities. Wish we can find 2 batsmen from this tour. Haider and Rohail. And 1-2 bowler Nasim Shah and another spinner.

Interested to see how he does on this tour.

It's been a while since Pakistan produced a high-quality batsman.

If you notice in the first video, he was 25 from 24 balls and then he was 43 from 61 balls. The same cancerous approach of not taking singles and rotating strike can be seen here. This needs to be rooted out at this level itself. Teach him to rotate strike.

Did you watch the game? If so then you will know those pitches were difficult to bat on.

Don't think he'll be playing the U19 World Cup. He's already 18 years 259 days and to be honest he looks older to me. He'll probably vanish from the system in a few years time.

Haider Ali (18) - promising opener

I watched the 18 years old in several matches against SL u19 recently, and the Sri Lankan attack may not be the best in World, but Haider played some really lovely shots all around the ground against them, especially his on drives were treat to watch.

Strongly build lad, good hight and decent technique.

In the warm up match in SA today he scored 160 runs from 145 balls.

Let’s hope he had a good tour of SA.

He is born after 1 september 2000 so he will play the WC. And I think the selectors only picked players eligible for the WC

I haven't seen him batting at all - need to watch more. But he is scoring lot and mentioned by few, should be better than the PAK top order playing in 2018 U19 WC.

Looks 18 how Rashid Khan looked when he was 18, but doesnt matter if he can perform for the national team.

Certainly much better then that rubbish.

He really looks good and for a change a well built bastman which is a big plus now-a-days. Someone to be invested on. A good performance in upcoming under 19 WC will open up lots of chances for him.

Why you say so, , what a pathetic comment.

Seriously, we need to stop glorifying these mediocre players otherwise our cricket will remain the same what it had been in last two decades.
Just look at his footwork & ability to play slow bowlers. I saw him bat twice in SL series live. It took him four overs to rotate strike when spin was on from both ends. The only good or luck about those inns was a few release shots that luckily connected for him.

Even in int matches pitched will not be all freindly. Thats the biggest issue with current openers also, both are good but dont rotate

His technique and style reminds me of Saleem Elahi from the 90s, but good to see a confident young batsman.

Give him a couple of seasons in domestics and he will make Shehzad look like a flamboyant Gordon Greenidge

Need to make sure every decent youngster plays all FC matches. We have been pretty poor with this in comparison to India where every promising young player gets atleast 1,2 seasons to prove himself.

No one is saying they are perfect or they don't have weaknesses. But, what i find amusing is that people who don't even watch the games but come to conclusion by just looking at the scorecard.

He scored 60 runs off 52 balls and gave Pakistan U-19 a flying start and it was a low scoring match to boot.

Haider Ali scores century in the 3rd Youth ODI against SA u19s. He is currently on 106 from 100 balls.

Can he be the opener we desperately need?

Only seen this clip of the lad...seems bit KP'ish.

Will have to see more of him (preferably live) to really get a good feel for him.

When is the U19 WC?

Haider Ali with another commanding performance with the bat vs SA U19s today, scoring 116 (111).

Hearing good things about this lad.

You must be pretty decent if you can out to South Africa and smash a couple of centuries.

I was petty Impressed by Young Zeeshan Malik and than he disappeared. This lad looks to wait on the back foot and plays all the back foot strokes well. However his cover drives hardly inspire confidence that front
foot does not move across.

When did Pakistan had a Tall Opener last time? that auger well

If it was so difficult how did he score 25 from 24 balls? He then scored 18 from next 37 balls which isnt a good sign. Should work on strike rotation.

Doesn't look like he uses his feet much , maybe the highlights are all stand and deliver stuff

Nice to see such talent from Attock.:imam WebGuru

Glad to see another player coming from my hometown i hope he is selected and delivers at the highest level instead of becoming another Hammad Azam or Yasir Ali

I think it's better to not hype these U19 or U16 players in general and especially Batsmen. Last year on pp, all of us were hyping up Saim Ayub and Taha as next big thing, but these 2 can't get bat on ball this season. I ain't saying they aren't good, but hyping them as next Babar/Kohli thing might be too much for these and they aren't able to overcome that.

camps on back foot, has some natural timing and a bit of power tho.

Better video .i was worried about his off side game but he is not that bad .He does look quality batsmen with strong wrist

South Africa under-19s bowling coach, Chris van Noordwyk big praise for haider ali

The effort of the boys has been great. We are playing against an opening batter here, who I believe is of international class and that’s not an excuse,” Van Noordwyk explained. “He is a fine player and has come into the game and has dominated our bowlers. So, we must work on a couple of mental things and a couple of technical things. We have to start throwing a few counter punches at him and their whole batting unit,” he continued.

Asked Haider how tall he is.

His reply "6 foot".

Could easily be mistaken for Babar Azam

I understand why the SA coach praised him. This level looks too easy for him. Usually, I wouldn't say this for batsmen but this is one guy you can fast track.

I agree. The time he has to play the ball and his composure at the crease at this age is remarkable.
