[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Harry Brook - Star in the making

Lol smashes a quickfire 100. Dangerous player!

Lol smashes a quickfire 100. Dangerous player!

Actually I used to actually rate him higher before than after today's innings. Its quiet clear he is not a good player of spin and was struggling against KKR's spinners today. I used to think Harry Brook was more all rounded player but that myth actually got busted today. Great against seamers though.

Maiden IPL 100 for Brook.

Harry Brook speaking after his Player of the Match knock

“You go on social media and people are calling you rubbish. There’s a lot of Indian fans out there who’ll say well done tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up to be honest"

“A lot of people say that opening the batting in T20 is the best time to bat. I’m happy to bat anywhere. I’ve had a lot of success batting at five. Made my name there. My four Test hundreds will have to be over this one. The crowd was phenomenal tonight. I enjoyed it"

“I’ve had a bit of trouble with spin, but I wanted to use the powerplay to my advantage"

“So middle overs wanted to rotate strike and let the other boys do the hitting. It is a belter of a pitch, we need to bowl our lengths rightly and take wickets. We still got a job to do. My girlfriend is here but the rest of my family have just left, I’m sure they’ll all be very happy for me.”

Harry Brook vs spin: 34(29).

Harry Brook vs pace: 66(26).

Teams will now start with a spinner if he keeps opening for his side in IPL.

Harry Brook becomes the first player to have scored a 100 in PSL and IPL!

Failure for Brook today in IPL - out for 18 from 13.

No doubt he is talented and hopefully he will emerge a much stronger player from this experience on Indian pitches.

But tbh besides the one knock, he has really struggled in the other 6-7 matches.

Played a match losing 7 from 14 balls innings today.

All new SENA talents have to pass the spin Test. Even in the internationals, he failed against Chahal twice. Root probably would have done better than him against spin.

Wonder what Athers will say now bcoz Harry Brook is really finding IPL bowlers too hot to handle. Apart from that hundred, he looked like a tailender throughout

Is he getting out to the quicks or spinners ?

the psl vs ipl competition logic from harry brooks' performance is silly, chris gayle absolutely bossed the ipl but couldn't buy a run in the psl, and someone like shane watson had very similar numbers in both leagues.

players have different preferences, ipl definitely has better spinners at the moment, but u dont need to see brooks performance to gauge that.

Shouldnt have gone to do the MLB thing and screwed up his form and technique

Australia’s spinner is likely to be on the receiving end of some aggressive batting tactics in the Ashes over the next two months.

Only three spinners in the history of the game have taken more wickets than Nathan Lyon, who finished the last cycle of the World Test Championship as its leading wicket-taker with 88.

But the 35-year-old’s record won’t stop England from going after him with their new aggressive style of play.

And Harry Brook has confirmed exactly what Lyon can expect from him at Edgbaston in this week's first Test of the series.

“If he bowls a good ball then I’m going to respect it. But other than that, I’m going to try and take him on. He could get a lot of wickets, but hopefully we’re going to hit him for a lot of runs.

“I’d like to think I’m a player who can find gaps and hit different gaps, I try and play all around the wicket. I’ll see whatever field he has; I’m sure they’ll probably start with everybody up and we’ll go from there.”

Brook has enjoyed a remarkable start to his Test career, averaging 81.80 with four centuries to his name after seven Tests.

“I probably wasn’t thinking I was going to have that start, but I’d take it every day of the week. It’s been a whirlwind six months really, the best winter I could have ever asked for and long may it continue.

“I’m looking forward to the Ashes. Australia are one of the best teams in the world off the back of a World Test Championship win, and I’ve always wanted to play against the best players in the world and see how good I really am.

“I’m looking forward to facing those boys and challenging myself against them and whatever plans they have against me.”

Australia claim top three spots in batting rankings after WTC Final
And the talented 24-year-old is looking forward to a chance to play in the series that inspired him as a youngster.

"It's definitely a dream come true to be involved in my first Ashes. I was growing up watching the very best players from England and Australia facing each other.

"Obviously the 2005 Ashes was a big one. I can always remember the over (Andrew) Flintoff bowled to (Ricky) Ponting and KP (Kevin Pietersen) smacking it everywhere against (Shane) Warne and (Glenn) McGrath, those boys.

"They were my earliest memories. I'm going to go out there and play the way I have done in the last 12 months. I hope that's enough to inspire a few too."

But there could be some pressure on Brook after a relatively disappointing stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Brook scored a superb century early in the competition, but ended the IPL having scored just 90 runs in his other ten visits to the crease, finishing with an average of 21.11 and strike-rate of 123.37.

However, Brook isn’t perturbed by that lack of runs, and isn’t expecting it to have any knock-on effect on his Ashes performances.

“It’s a different format, different environment,” he said.

“I’ve said plenty of times that this environment’s the best I’ve been in and I’m going to go out there and be fearless.”

England name starting Ashes XI two days early
The Ashes begin on Friday at Edgbaston, with England having already named their starting XI for that first Test.

The Ashes fixtures
First Test: June 16 - June 20, Edgbaston
Second Test: June 28 - July 2, Lord’s
Third Test: July 6 - July 10, Headingley
Fourth Test: July 19 - July 23, Old Trafford
Fifth Test: July 27 - July 31, The Oval

How unlucky is that?

Hussain: Brook is the future of red ball cricket
Sky Sports' Nasser Hussain on Harry Brook....

"The more Harry Brooks, the more people playing red-ball cricket growing up, the better. He fundamentally believes in red-ball cricket."

Proper baseball player, Brook!

Even showed that he had a little MLB sticker on his bat.

Bullied Pakistan, Bullied NZ on pocket size grounds. became a millionaire with IPL contract, Failed big time in IPL. Struggles against a proper team. What a sweet ride for him

It seems to me that opposition teams have struggled to work him out yet.

The guy has got ability and takes risks.

Proper modern-day English batter and ideal for BazBall.

He got a life already. Labu put him down. On bigger grounds agianst faster bowlers he will have his task cut out.

He is a tremendous player but this Bazball nonsense is destroying his career.

He has the ability to be the next Joe Root/Kevin Pietersen but Stokes and McCullum are forcing him to become a slogger which will hurt his career in the long-term.

He needs a proper captain and a proper coach at the earliest. He needs a support system that respects Test cricket.

Was playing an excellent, mature innings. Looked good for a big one.

His captain and coach have no appetite and patience for proper Test cricket. They sent him a message and asked him to start slogging blindly and he throws it away with an ugly hoick.

Bazball is destroying Harry Brook. He is much more than just a slogger. ECB must protect their best batting talent since Joe Root before it is too late.

He literally chased down that short ball to have a go at it!

He is a special talent who belongs in the class of players like Joe Root and Kevin Pietersen.

However, his coach and captain want him to become a slogger because apparently, that is the way to play Test cricket.

It is absolute madness - Bazball is a cancer that must be nipped in the bud. It is going to destroy the future Joe Roots, Kevin Pietersens and Alaistair Cooks.

Well the Aussies have found a way to bowl to him.

Bang it in and he will take on the challenge and not always with control.

He also got hit by a bouncer as well so not sure if his technique also.

Brook frustrated by World Cup squad snub:

“Obviously it’s disappointing, but I can’t do anything about it now, you’ve just got to move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore,” Brook said after playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred at Lord’s.

“I’ve not had much conversation with (coach) Matthew (Mott) or (captain) Jos (Buttler). They said with Stokesy coming back I was probably going to miss out this time.

“He (Stokes) is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can’t really complain, can I?”

“I feel like I’m playing well at the minute and feel I could potentially add value to the team. There’s always something more you could do,”

“I haven’t had much opportunity to play one-day cricket, whether that be for Yorkshire or England and, although I’ve played a lot of T20 cricket, I don’t know I’ve done as well as I have in the past in the last six months, so that might have had an effect.”

Initially, I thought Brook being left out was the correct decision since Stokes has a proven record in India but on closer inspection, the England squad is actually not as well-balanced as I initially thought. They are 1 genuine batter short.

Brook is not competing with Stokes at all. He should replace one of Moeen or Livingstone and should start ahead of Moeen/Livingstone in the first XI. Both Moeen and Livingstone are 6th bowlers and they don't have great records with the bat in ODI's.

England should start with

Malan
Bairstow
Root
Brook
Stokes
Buttler
Curran
Woakes
Rashid
Wood
Toppley

That makes it a very powerful batting lineup and Root can function as 6th bowler. Heck, even Brook can be a 7th option with his medium pace.

(Reuters) - Harry Brook could still be part of England's World Cup title defence despite failing to find a place in the original 15-member squad for the 50-overs cricket showpiece event in India later this year, skipper Jos Buttler said.

With Ben Stokes back in the squad after reversing his retirement from the one-day format, England dropped Brook - whose explosive batting was in full display on Tuesday when he smashed a 41-ball century in The Hundred competition - from the lineup.

But the 24-year-old is set to travel to India as a reserve player, and England can change their provisional squad until Sept. 28.

"There's still a long time before everyone's meant to get on the plane so we'll wait and see what happens," Buttler said on Friday.

"We all know Harry's a fantastic player and we saw what he can do the other night. It's not like it's a surprise, we know what a brilliant player he is.

"He's just the unfortunate one at the moment to not be in that squad. Ben Stokes coming back and being available just as a batter changes the dynamic a little bit."

A key architect of England's World Cup triumphs in 2019 (ODI) and 2022 (T20), test captain Stokes announced his shock ODI retirement in July last year, citing his workload. But he reversed course this month and was picked for the upcoming home series against New Zealand.

England are more than happy to greet him back into the ODI squad, even though the talismanic all-rounder, who has been grappling with a troublesome knee of late, will play as a specialist batter.

"Ben's a fantastic player to be able to welcome back," Buttler said.

"It's a really tough selection, there have been players performing really well over a period of time and that's where we are at the minute."

England will begin their title defence against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on Oct. 5 in a rematch of the 2019 final.

Michael Atherton has weighed in on the ongoing debate over Harry Brook’s omission from England’s World Cup squad, stating he “couldn’t envisage a squad” which doesn’t contain Brook.

“Definitely,” Atherton replied to the question of whether he would’ve selected Brook in the 15. “Like many people I was surprised when he was left out. I couldn’t envisage a squad without Harry Brook actually, I think he’s an exceptional talent. Trying to understand the reason England have not picked him, it’s obviously a consequence of [Ben] Stokes’ return and the balance of the side – maybe his IPL form counted against him, he wasn’t particularly good apart from one hundred – and obviously the schedule has counted against him.”

PSL has shaped careers of many players , not only Pakistani but also plenty of International players. Harry brook is one of English player who made headlines in International media by getting break through in PSL 2022, Brook was signed by Lahore Qalandars. In match against Islamabad United, Brook scored an unbeaten 102 off 49 balls. It was his maiden T20 century, becoming the youngest centurion in PSL history. Now the lad is an integral part of english squad. He was part of Ashed 2023 and performed decently with responsibility as his 75 runs in 3rd ashes test helped England clinch victory. Now English selectors has called him for world cup which shows his the importance of his role in the team. Harry brook is familiar with Indian conditions because of his stint in IPL 2023 in which he also smashed maiden century. He can play crucial role for England at mega event of Cricket.

Besides Harry brook. PSL has also helped David Malan, Liam Livingstone , Joe denly , Phil Salt etc due to which they got permanent place in England Team.

Good innings under pressure but sadly couldn't go the distance.
Won't be the last we see of him in this tournament I feel, has a big innings in him yet.

Harry Brook pulls out of Big Bash League to manage workload and international commitments

England batter Harry Brook has withdrawn from competing in this year's Big Bash League in Australia due to "increased workload".

The 24-year-old was selected as the second pick of the draft by Melbourne Stars, who begin their BBL campaign against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba in three weeks.

Brook was a late inclusion in England's World Cup squad for the disappointing campaign in India and has since been selected for the white-ball tour of the West Indies in December.

Brook, who has previous BBL experience with Hobart Hurricanes, had initially been set to link up with the Stars to play seven games after touring the Caribbean.

But Stars general manager Blair Crouch said: "Currently the coaching staff and list management team are discussing options for the remainder of the tournament and we look forward to announcing those signings once they have been finalised.

"Naturally we're disappointed that Harry has withdrawn from the BBL but we understand his decision with his increased workload.

"We obviously rate Harry extremely highly and we would have loved to have seen him at the MCG alongside Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis this summer.

We wish him all the best with his upcoming international commitments.

"Given Harry was set to miss the opening three matches, the club had already signed a replacement player for that period.

"Currently the coaching staff and list management team are discussing options for the remainder of the tournament and we look forward to announcing those signings once they have been finalised."

Does Brook need to play other leagues when he has ENG contract, the Hundred and an IPL gig? Got to think strategically.

England's Harry Brook has been awarded the Bob Willis Trophy at the 2023 Cricket Writers' Club awards.

Brook, 24, scooped the award for the overall cricketer of the year, just two years after winning the CWC's Young Cricketer of the Year.

The Bob Willis Trophy, given to England's men's or women's player of the year, was awarded to Brook off the back of 12 months that saw him play a key role for England across three formats.

In November 2022, Brook helped England win the T20 World Cup, as well as scoring four centuries in his first 12 Test matches, becoming the fastest player to reach 1,000 Test runs in terms of balls faced.

In The Hundred, Brook also scored a 41-ball century for the Northern Superchargers which helped him force his way into England's World Cup squad.

"I think the T20 World Cup just tops it to be honest," said Brook. "To have won a World Cup, to have played in an Ashes series and to have experienced some of the things I have this year is a dream come true.

"It has been the most enjoyable time of my life so far. The way we've gone out there and tried to play our cricket has been really fun."

Harry Brook: England batter deletes social media apps to help mental health

England's Harry Brook has deleted his phone's social media apps in an effort to shield himself from negativity.

Brook, 24, made a superb start in international cricket, playing starring roles in Test cricket and winning the T20 World Cup in November 2022.

But he struggled in the 50-over World Cup in October and November, averaging 28.16 in England's group-stage exit.

"I've been off social media for a while now, anything I stumble across, I delete it from the phone," he said.

"I haven't really seen any negativity, I think that's helped my game, helped my mental health and everything to be off social media and seeing all the negativity that brings."

Brook had only played three one-day internationals before forcing his way into England's World Cup squad at the expense of opener Jason Roy.

He had a difficult World Cup, with a top score of 66, but made an encouraging 71 in the middle order in England's defeat by West Indies in the first of three ODIs on Sunday.

Brook, who signed a three-year central contract during the World Cup, has taken the decision to leave his social media content to his management team so he can concentrate on performances on the pitch.

Earlier this year, Brook featured in the Indian Premier League for the first time after being bought for £1.35m by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

His first three innings saw him score 29 runs, before he smashed a 55-ball century.

In an interview following that innings, Brook said: "I'm glad I could shut them up."

He continued to receive abuse and finished the tournament with an average of 21.11.

"I was an idiot and I said that stupid thing in an interview which I regret a little bit," he said.

"In India, you end up sitting in your hotel room, not much to do so I find myself just scrolling Instagram or Twitter or whatever and come across stuff you just don't want to see.

"I thought it was the right idea to get off it. I've obviously still got Instagram and Twitter but thankfully I've got someone running it for me."

Brook has been released by Sunrisers, but has put himself forward for the auction, which takes place on 19 December, for the 2024 tournament.

It could mean a very busy period for Brook, with the current white-ball tour of West Indies ending on 21 December and then a five-Test series starting in India on 25 January.

That finishes on 12 March, with the IPL expected to start shortly after.

"I probably felt like I needed a little bit of a break after the World Cup, to be honest," Brook said.

"It wears you out. Obviously we didn't have a great competition as well, which didn't help.

"To have a little two-week break at home was refreshing. But I'm happy to be out here, to be honest. I feel like I've got some things I need to work on, especially in one-day cricket."

This should help him to concentrate better on his game. Spend more time on the ground rather than on the phone is surely a far better option for any cricketer.

Brook first English signing in IPL auction

Brook made an unbeaten 100 from 55 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders in his only knock of note last season, with the Yorkshireman managing just 90 more runs across his other 10 innings during the 2023 campaign.

He gave a reminder of his class in Saturday's third T20 international against West Indies when he smashed 24 off Andre Russell's final over (three sixes, a four and a two) to take England to their target of 223 with one ball remaining.

Chris Woakes had the same base price as Brook and attracted bids from both Kolkata Knight Riders and the Punjab Kings, who eventually signed him for 4.2 crore rupees (£400,000).

Harry Brook will not be playing in the upcoming IPL. SO unfortunate for him. First, he missed out on a test series and now he has to miss the IPL. No wonder why, Family comes first.

Harry Brook confirms reason for international absence, withdraws from IPL 2024

Young England batter Harry Brook has confirmed his withdrawal from the upcoming IPL after the death of his grandmother.

Brook pulled out of England's recently completed Test series in India late January to be with his family, leaving the team during the his team's prepatory camp in UAE.

The 25-year-old has since made the "difficult decision" to also sit out the 2024 IPL, clarifying the situation surrounding his recent absence.

"I was so excited to be picked by Delhi Capitals and was so looking forward to joining up with everyone," Brook said in a statement on Instagram.

"Whilst I don't think I should need to share my personal reasons behind this decision, I know there will be many asking why. So I do want to share this. I lost my grandmother last month - she was a rock to me and I spent a huge amount of my childhood in her home; my attitude to life and love for cricket was shaped by her and my late grandfather.

"When at home, there would hardly be a day go by that didn't include seeing her. It makes me so happy that she was able to see me play cricket for England. I'm proud that she could collect some of the awards I have won over the last couple of years when I couldn't be there and I know she enjoyed doing that."

Having missed the Test tour, Brook explained the need to return to the UK before the final leg of England's trip to India.

"I made the decision to leave the India Test tour the night before we flew from Abu Dhabi to India because I was told for the first time that my grandmother was ill and didn't have long left," he continued.

"Now that she has passed my family and I are grieving and I need to be around them."

Brook boasts four centuries in his 12 Test appearances for England thus far, and has made a total of 44 international white-ball appearances.

After the early fall of wickets, Harry Brook is building a solid partnership with Adam Lyth. Harry Brook is playing with a strike rate of 146.87 in the first innings for Yorkshire against Leicestershire in county season 2024.

Brook reaches a fabulous fifty off 35 balls with 7x4s and 2x6s. He deserves much respect for giving up an IPL contract and playing FC cricket.

England star eyes T20 World Cup return after difficult start to 2024

Star England batter Harry Brook is keen to put a tumultuous start to 2024 behind him and help his side defend their title at this year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Brook played a major role in helping England to a second T20 World Cup success when they defeated Pakistan in a thrilling final at the MCG in 2022 and the 25-year-old is looking to make an impact when he returns to international action for his country at this year's edition of the 20-over showcase in the USA and West Indies during June.

Brook last played for England when he featured in his side's five-match T20I series of the West Indies at the end of last year and the right-hander has since sat out a crucial ICC World Test Championship series in India and the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) to instead be with family prior to the death of his grandmother last month.

But having put together some good form for Yorkshire over the past few weeks in the second division of England's domestic County Championship, Brook is aiming to make an immediate impact upon his return to the international scene at the T20 World Cup.

"I'm looking forward to it, if selected," Brook told the ECB Reporters Network of the T20 World Cup.

"We join up at the end of next month. I'm looking forward to being back with the lads and hopefully producing the goods for England again."

Brook hit an unbeaten century for Yorkshire from just 69 deliveries against Leicestershire earlier this month and then reached triple figures with another impressive innings in a rain-affected match against Derbyshire over the weekend.

The runs for his County have taken on special meaning for Brook, who dedicated his recent spree of form to his late grandmother Pauline - a long-time supporter of the England star who was seen as a figurehead in his family.

"Both of those hundreds (in County cricket) and all of the runs I've scored so far this year are all dedicated to her," Brook said.

"When I came home from Abu Dhabi (prior to Test series against India), it was a very tough time, and I'm glad I did come home. Obviously, it was a big decision to make. I hadn't played hundreds of games for England, so to just turn down a big Test tour like that (India) was a big decision to make.

"But she comes before all of that. She would have come out there a couple of years ago, so I had to come back and support her as much as I could. I managed to take her out for a coffee and whatnot in that first week I was back.

"I was still training with a mindset of trying to get back out for the last couple of Tests, all being well. It all disintegrated fairly quickly, so that didn't happen. I just tried to support her as best as I could and everyone around us."

England's Brook hopes break makes him better player

England batter Harry Brook says he has no regrets about his recent break from cricket and thinks it could help him return a better player.

Brook, 25, pulled out of England's Test tour in January after his grandmother fell ill and later the Indian Premier League following her death.

He instead played for Yorkshire in April, made his England return in two T20s against Pakistan last month and is now in the Caribbean as part of England's T20 World Cup squad.

"It wasn't in the nicest circumstances but that time with family was the most important thing for me," Brook said.

"Trying to spend as much time as I could with my grandma at that time was the right call and I don't regret it for a minute."

Brook was speaking at England’s first training session in Barbados before the opening match of their T20 World Cup defence on Tuesday against Scotland at 15:30 BST.

He appears leaner and said he used his five months at home to work on his fitness, having had a busy first 18 months of his England career playing across all three formats since his debut in 2022.

He hopes improved fitness will help him run more twos in the heat and humidity of the Caribbean and help have "fast hands" to aid his power-hitting.

"I did try and nail as much practice and fitness as I could and get myself in the right headspace," said Brook, who made one half-century in England's disappointing 50-over World Cup campaign last year.

"I was travelling a lot so to have that little break from cricket was good and I was raring to go again when I went back and played for Yorkshire."

The weather has been mixed since England's arrival in Barbados on Friday – hot but with short, heavy showers – and similar weather is forecast for Tuesday.

England are in a group with Scotland, Australia, Oman and Namibia and an early washout would add pressure to later games with the top two progressing to the Super 8 stage.

There is an extra 90 minutes available to complete morning games interrupted by weather. The shortest possible match is five overs per side meaning a match would need to be begin by 19:00 BST.

"Every game is important in a World Cup," Brook said.

"We've just got to hope and pray the weather does stay away and we can get a game in."

England's XI will likely match those in their rain-affected series win over Pakistan with the main selection call being between left-arm seamer Reece Topley and fast bowler Mark Wood.

Stunning catch, absolutely stunning!

It is Brook who pulls it off with a one-handed effort low at slip diving to his right after Stokes induces the edge.

Stokes has a look of disbelief on his face after watching his team-mate take a grab the skipper himself would be proud of.

Took a blinder earlier and now scored 50 as well. Good going so far. This is his 8th in Tests.

I am not a huge stats fan, but Harry’s numbers are so good that they are becoming difficult to ignore. An undeniably outstanding player.

Brook's average of 62.54 ranks as the second-highest in Test history among players with a minimum of 20 Test innings, trailing only the legendary Australian Donald Bradman, who averaged 99.94 with 6,996 runs in 52 Tests, including 29 centuries and 13 fifties.

Furthermore, Brook holds the highest strike rate for any batter with over 1,000 Test runs. The next highest is former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, who had a strike rate of 86.97.
