[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Indian Politics - News & Updates Thread

Modi is such a Power Hungry Individual, two terms not enough for him the Buddha wants another term ? This is Pakistan type establishment destroying PTI by arresting its leaders, same happening in India. Arresting opposition leaders, Blocking funds of biggest opposition parties, how will the election be a fair contest now ? It seems as long as Modi wins through any dishonest measures it's enough and democracy is safe in India.

Our movement is much bigger than one person. He hasn't done enough damage to the termites, and has been a big disappointment, but has been doing the right things since a few months, so there is hope that he does what we expected of him in his third term.
what '' right things '' ?

I presume you are a bhakt - feel sorry about you .
Hanuman Bhakt. Every morning I reach the gym by 5:30 am, and bow to Hanuman Ji temple which is on the way by putting my forehead at the steps of the temple. Hopefully will get the mark on my forehead. It has only been one year.

I hope there is enough evidence against Kejriwal to justify this. Would backfire badly on the BJP if there isn't.

Prominent opposition politician and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by India's financial crime agency, his party said.

The arrest is in connection with corruption allegations relating to the city's policies over alcohol sales.
Mr Kejriwal and his party, the Aadmi Party (AAP), deny any wrongdoing and say the case is politically motivated.
His arrest comes weeks before voting begins in the country's general election.

Police surrounded Mr Kejriwal's home on Thursday as it was searched by members of the Enforcement Directorate agency.
The case is over allegations that an alcohol sale policy implemented by the Delhi government in 2022 - which ended the government monopoly - gave undue advantages to private retailers.

Mr Kejriwal has ignored numerous summonses in the case.

India's general election will take place in seven phases over April and May, with the results to be announced on 4 June.
Ahead of the vote, opposition parties have accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP government of misusing government agencies for political ends.

Dilip Pandey, AAP lawmaker and chief whip in the Delhi assembly, told the BBC the arrest shows that Mr Modi "is scared of Kejriwal".

"They can arrest Kejriwal but not his thoughts. We will continue to fight his arrest and the unjust policies of Mr Modi's government," Mr Pandey said.

Two other AAP leaders, Sanjay Singh and Manish Sisodia, were arrested last year in the same case.

They are among several prominent opposition leaders subject to criminal investigations many say are politically motivated.
Rahul Gandhi, the most prominent member of the opposition Congress party, was convicted of criminal libel last year after a complaint by a member of the BJP.

The AAP has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of playing "dirty politics" and says it will seek an urgent hearing at the Supreme Court to secure Mr Kejriwal's release.

Deserve it or propaganda by ruling govt?

I hope there is enough evidence against Kejriwal to justify this. Would backfire badly on the BJP if there isn't.
I hope he is arrested for the right reasons also.

If Kejirwal was not arrested for a genuine reason, I don't see it backfiring for BJP anyway.

BJP/Allies will most likely sweep the parliament with 400 or more seats in the coming election. Whether a Kejirwal is arrested or not won't make any difference to their political aspiration, Aravind kuttan was previously involved in a 50 crore scam for his home renovations, to say this is all BJP agenda, just to have him arrested is a pseudo secular argument, he maybe a big fraud and be in the running to be one day a bigger fraud than my ammayi Sonya.

Having said that, I really hope the BJP can destroy my other kingpin fraud; Mamata Ammayi, the amount of ruin she is doing by letting illegal migrants from Bangladesh to come to India, so she can keep her vote bank is unforgivable.

When BJP comes back to power for the 3rd time, hope they put fear of god in those illegal Bangladeshis make them think 10 times before trying to enter the country illegally... Should have a sign for those illegal Bangladeshi's on the Bengal border : Enter illegally at your own risk'

lol I hope this isn’t true coz thats how the dullest leaders prop up.

Arvind kejriwal arrested yesterday night… victory for Indian democracy. Kejriwal not responded to 9 ED summons which shows why he was running away from ED.

When Kejriwal become Delhi CM for first time he said that he is living in small house, and will continue to live in the same house for rest of his life. Also he will not use any government vehicle. Now if u Googled “arvind kejriwal house”, u could not believe on ur eyes after seeing search result, you will say it’s a White House where US president is residing. How could common ppls aka “Aam aadmi’s” CM living in house which costs around more than 100 crores?

When Delhi’s deputy CM was arrested by ED in liquor scam, at that time Kejriwal said all ED’s allegations are false, BJP is doing conspiracy against his party, court will freed Sisodia in 2 days. However now more than 1 year passed, still Sisodia in jail which shows ED have strong evidence against him in liquor scam.

What Kejriwal government doing is they are luring Janata with “muft ki bijli, muft ka pani” and by distracting them they are doing major scams worth billions.

Long live the Indian democracy!!!

However vindictive feku has been towards his political opponents, one thing is clear, Kejriwal isn't saint either. He had this coming.

Still remember him (along with that sanghi stooge, Anna Hazare) claiming in 2013 that they had truckloads of evidence against then Delhi CM, Sheila Dixit regarding her involvement in financial bungling in Commonwealth games, 2010.

Well, Dixit is dead for close to 5 years now and those lofty claims are over a decade old but Kejriwal (and Anna) haven't produced a shred of evidence against Dixit so far.

You reap what you sow!

PS: Hope feku too experiences this in his lifetime!

Bro he doesn't even get 20 seats..Delhi and Punjab are all he wins..

He is not the IK of India if you thought that..
Wrong analogy.

IK has been in politics for close to 3 decades now while Kejriwal is just over a decade old in politics.

Kejriwal wanted this. He ignored 9 summons to delay any action on him as much as possible. Getting arrested close to the elections suits him. Although he hasn't planned to be in jail for long. If they have found strong evidence against him, he will be gone and his party will start infighting.

Will take congress ( pre rahul gandhi ) over kejriwal any day.

India opposition calls arrest ‘decay of democracy’

Indian opposition leaders have strongly condemned the arrest of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Mr Kejriwal, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was arrested on Thursday in connection with corruption allegations relating to the city's policies over alcohol sales.

Mr Kejriwal has denied any wrongdoing and challenged his arrest in the Supreme Court.

Opposition leaders have alleged that his arrest is politically motivated.

But Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has denied the allegation and say that it is merely acting against corruption.

Mr Kejriwal's arrest by a financial crimes agency comes as a blow to the opposition just weeks before India's general elections. AAP is part of the 27-party INDIA alliance aiming to challenge the BJP.

Alluding to Mr Modi, Rahul Gandhi of the main opposition Congress party wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday evening: "A scared dictator wants to create a dead democracy."

"The arrest of elected Chief Ministers has become a common thing," Mr Gandhi wrote.

Sharad Pawar, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) said that Mr Kejriwal's arrest showcases the "depth to which BJP will stoop for power".

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said Mr Kejriwal's arrest would "give birth to a new people's revolution".

"BJP knows that it will not come to power again, due to this fear, it wants to remove the opposition leaders from the public by any means at the time of elections, arrest is just an excuse," he posted on X.

Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, said Mr Kejriwal's arrest "outright vicious and part of a callous plot to silence all opposition voices just ahead of the general elections".

His counterpart in Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, said: "Not a single BJP leader faces scrutiny or arrest, laying bare their abuse of power and the decay of democracy."

"The relentless persecution of opposition leaders by the BJP government smacks of a desperate witch-hunt. This tyranny ignites public fury, unmasking BJP's true colours," Mr Stalin said.

In the past year or so, several opposition leaders have been imprisoned, questioned or had cases filed against them by federal agencies.

K Kavitha, leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), was arrested in the same case as Mr Kejriwal just days ago. She denies the allegations.

In January, Hemant Soren, former Jharkhand chief minister and leader of the opposition Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was arrested by a federal tax agency on charges of money laundering and land-grabbing. Mr Soren denies the allegations.

Mr Gandhi himself was convicted of criminal libel last year after a complaint by a member of the BJP.

His two year prison sentence saw him disqualified from parliament for a time until the verdict was suspended by a higher court in August last year.

On Thursday, the Congress party accused Mr Modi's government of using the tax department to starve them of finances ahead of elections.

Mr Kejriwal is the third AAP leader to be arrested over the alleged corruption case related to a now-scrapped liquor policy in Delhi.

The Enforcement Directorate also arrested Mr Kejriwal's deputy, Manish Sisodia, and AAP lawmaker Sanjay Singh in the same case last year.

Since coming to power in Delhi in 2013, AAP secured significant victories in Punjab's state elections in 2022 and gained a few seats in Mr Modi's home state of Gujarat in the same year.

In Delhi liquor policy case, approver’s firm paid Rs 30 crore to the BJP – after ED arrest

Hours before his arrest, electoral bond data released by the Election Commission showed a company linked to another person accused in the same case, P Sarath Chandra Reddy, had donated Rs 5 crore to the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2022, just five days after Reddy was taken in custody. Another Rs 25 crore was donated to the BJP after Reddy turned approver in the Delhi excise policy case.

Hyderabad-based businessman Sarath Reddy is one of the directors of Aurobindo Pharma Limited, founded by his father PV Ram Prasad Reddy. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the liquor scam case on November 10, 2022. His company Aurobindo Pharma bought electoral bonds worth Rs 5 crore on November 15. All of them were encashed by the BJP soon after, on November 21, 2022.

Sarath Reddy turned approver in the Delhi excise policy case in June 2023. In November 2023, Aurobindo Pharma gave another Rs 25 crore to the BJP.

In all, the company bought electoral bonds worth Rs 52 crore, of which Rs 34.5 crore went to the BJP. Before Sarath Reddy was arrested by the ED, Aurobindo Pharma had also donated Rs 15 crore to Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Rs 2.5 crore to the Telugu Desam Party.

This must be a coincidence that the guy who was an accused in the case, gave way 34.5 crores to the regime after he was arrested!

And guess what, he was allowed to turn approver in that case!

No wonder feku was so reluctant to let electoral bonds' truth come out before elections.

ECI and SBI duly cooperated in his corrupt practices.

Yes yes, feku bhakt, rhetoric over and over again. Where has this got you ? BJP is most likely gonna win by their biggest margin ever 😂.

Ind and PK don't like popular opposition party leaders
Popular LOL. The AAP exists nowhere in India outside of Delhi and Punjab.

Even their victory in Punjab was a fluke. They won there because everyone was fed up of the Congress and Akalis, and the BJP was not very strong.

This will create massive sympathy surge for AAP across the country. If court release Kejriwal today, he can come out as a hero.

BJP is winning upcoming general elections handsomely according to every opinion poll. So why they would take any such step at this crucial juncture where an opposition leader comes out as hero?

I will not be surprised if this is staged by opposition themselves. Either that or Enforcement Directorate has real corruption evidence against Kejriwal and acting as an independent body without any input from BJP.

All the 7 seats of Delhi in last LS election was won by BJP with vote share >50%...so AAP is a non-entity as far as national politics is concerned. One has to simply understand the chronology. There is absolutely nothing for BJP to gain in getting Kejriwal arrested.

"His arrest is because of his own deeds" - Anna Hazare reacts to Arvind Kejriwal's arrest
New Delhi: Social activist Anna Hazare, who spearheaded the Lokpal movement in the early 2010s along with Arvind Kejriwal, said on Friday that the latter was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate “because of his own deeds”.

The social activist from Maharashtra, who had become the face of the anti-corruption movement, said he is upset with Arvind Kejriwal.

Anna Hazare said they used to work against liquor and now he was formulating a policy for the same.

"I am very upset that Arvind Kejriwal, who used to work with me, raise his voice against liquor, is now making liquor policies. His arrest is because of his own deeds," said Hazare.

Hazare and Kejriwal had observed many fasts unto death during the agitation, demanding an anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal from the Congress government at the Centre.

Lakhs of people had rallied behind the two leaders. However, after the protest fizzled out, Kejriwal, and several other members of the non-profit India Against Corruption, formed the Aam Aadmi Party.

Anyone remember the year 2011 when Anna Hazare and Kejriwal started this India against Corruption movement against ruling congress party? At that time we all used to be 'Aam Aadmi' and used to wear hats like 'Mai bhi Anna'. I remember Anna Ji started his fast just a day after 2011 WC finals. It was a ground breaking thing at that time similar to JP Narayan movement against Indira Gandhi.

Entire country was dancing in their tune with protests in every part of the country. All famous bollywood stars and big celebrities were with them. So much so that Indian parliament was almost hijacked and they had to run overtime to bring peace in the country. Kejriwal used to openly call Congressi's and all political parties as Chor from Ram Leela maidan.

Then once the protest fizzled out, Kejriwal ousted Anna ji and formed his own political party. So after calling all politicians as Chor...he himself formed a political party. He was joined by Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, Shazia Ilmi, Kumar Viswas and Anand Kumar. Every one left Kejriwal and the party eventually. Now the same party whose existence was India against corruption is having members dragged in jail for corruption, leader lives in Sheesh mahal, ignores 9 summons from ED and eventually gets arrested.

What a fall from grace...bah gawd!!

Kejriwal does seem to get under the BJP's skin more than any politician in India.

After he resigned his first minority government (I can't even remember the reasons now), he came back to power with 95% of the seats - Ninety Five bloody percent. You'd have thought there would be a backlash in his second term and yes he loses a bit but still comes back with 90% of the seats in the most politically aware city in the country.

It's obviously been humiliating for the BJP since it's the Capital and they've tried everything against him including trying to have that fat, unelected idiot lieutenant governor try to run the government by dictat.

Kejriwal comes off roughly as corrupt as any politician in India including a whole bunch of BJP politicians so I seriously doubt if this arrest is going to do anything except enhance his popularity. If AAP comes off with anything less than 90% of the seats, I'd be shocked. Not that it matters I guess. After being rebuked by the Supreme Court, the Modi government has shamefully crippled the democratic mandate of the people of Delhi through the NCT Act. The people of Delhi will be electing a hamstrung government in the future.

True…. Kejriwal’s initial agenda in 2013 was against congress party, but now his agenda and congress agenda are matching…. It’s the mistake of Delhi and Punjab voters who fallen to “muft bijlee and muft ka paani” scheme, by keeping ppls busy in muft scheme, he looted the country

If anything, this arrest has only made Kejriwal the hero. I have serious doubt BJP is so stupid to take such step.

So either this guy is really corrupt with such a strong case against him which ED couldn't ignore or it is a false flag operation.

BTW, since when Kejriwal become Modi's main opponent ? :ROFLMAO:

This guy lost all 7 seats from Dilli last time and he is main opposition for a man with 330 seats?

Rahul Gandhi bhi like - Mai kya karu phir? Job chor ke Italy chala jau?

:yk

I felt the same.

I echoed this similar sentiment when pappu got arrested. Ammayi Sonya planned a surgical strike to have her puppu arrested to make him look like a hero to give some credibility to his braid dead image...

INDIA alliance need some sort of miracle to minimize the number of seats BJP will get in the coming election and they pulled their last card here.

Haha but BJP most likely still taking home most likely 400 plus seats. This 3rd term will end Congress for good and hopefully end that wicked witch Mamata Ammayi.

They can make Aravind the next Mahatma Gandhi or Nelson Mandella but Modichayan will rule the kingdom 😂

This does reek of the BJP overplaying it's hand. They've been quite clever in using the ED to target the worst of the corrupt politicians and force them to switch sides. The message has been very clear - you can continue to be insanely corrupt just do it within the BJP and we won't trouble you.

This definitely seems counter-productive. Even if they do manage to hold on to him for a while, it will only increase the sympathy factor. Like you said, maybe it's someone in the ED trying to prove extra loyalty to his masters without getting specific directions to actually arrest?

PM Modi conferred Bhutan’s highest civilian honour, becomes 1st foreign head to receive it

The King of Bhutan on Friday conferred the Order of the Druk Gyalpo on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who became the first foreign head of government to receive Bhutan’s highest civilian honour. The Order of the Druk Gyalpo holds immense significance within Bhutan's honour system, symbolising a lifetime of outstanding achievements and contributions to society.

The Order of the Druk Gyalpo takes precedence over all orders, decorations and medals.

Since its institution, the award has been conferred upon only four eminent personalities.

Previous recipients of the award include Queen Grandmother of Bhutan Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck in 2008; Je Thrizur Tenzin Dendup (68th Je Khenpo of Bhutan) in 2008 and Je Khenpo Trulku Ngawang Jigme Choedra in 2018. Je Khenpo is the chief Abbot of the central monastic body of Bhutan.

"Honoured to be conferred with 'Order of the Druk Gyalpo' Award by Bhutan. I dedicate it to 140 crore Indians," Modi posted on X soon after.

The announcement for the honour was made by the King of Bhutan during the 114th National Day celebrations on December 17, 2021. On Friday, Prime Minister Modi received it during his two-day State visit, his third since he took over as the prime minister in 2014.

A statement from the Indian Embassy in 2021, when the announcement was made, said, “As per ranking and precedence established, the Order of the Druk Gyalpo was instituted as the decoration for lifetime achievement and is the pinnacle of the honor system in Bhutan, taking precedence over all orders, decorations and medals.”

Much as I've developed a dislike for Kejriwal after once having hopes from him, you've got to admit this entire ED investigations and summons thing has become a joke. Since 2014, the ED has registered cases against 121 prominent politicians. 115 of them belong to the opposition. Cases disappear against guys like Hemanta Biswa once they switch.

I'm sure he's corrupt like every other politician in India but he's done the smart thing by refusing to bother with the farce. Now he gets to be a martyr.

That’s actually fair point.

There is enough evidence against keju said supreme court allowing 10 days remand. Game over I believe.
Interesting. I wasn't aware the Supreme court agreed to hear the petition against remand. Wouldn't they instruct to approach a lower court first like they've done for that Telangana lady? Wonder why they agreed to rule.

Beyond Modi, India's opposition struggles with financial crime agency

India's main financial crime fighting agency has investigated well over a hundred opposition politicians in the past decade, drawing criticism it has become a weapon of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party to cull political opponents.

In the latest in a wave of detentions, raids and questioning of opposition politicians, the Enforcement Directorate (ED)arrested one of Modi's most trenchant critics on Thursday, just a month before India holds a national election.

India's opposition has been struggling to close the wide gap in opinion polls with Modi in the run up to the election starting on April 19, but it says it is being targeted by the ED and other federal agencies at the behest of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Rahul Gandhi, the highest-profile leader in the opposition Congress, says his party has been "crippled" by Modi's government with tax demands that have led to the freezing of its bank accounts.

"A scared dictator wants to create a dead democracy," he said of the ED's arrest on Thursday of Delhi region Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, whose party is aligned with Congress and who was seen as a likely star campaigner against the BJP.

The ED, the most powerful of the federal agencies, can search and arrest without warrant. It has summoned, questioned or raided nearly 150 politicians from the opposition since Modi took power in 2014, according to data compiled by Reuters based on court records, party statements and media reports. Both Gandhi and his mother have been questioned in a case relating to alleged money laundering.

In that time, four BJP politicians have been targeted by the ED, according to the data.

Modi said in a speech last week that "a major aspect of our governance is zero tolerance towards corruption".
"All agencies are completely independent to act against corruption," he said. Other BJP leaders said investigators were just following the law.

The prime minister's office did not respond to multiple requests for further comment. The ED said it operates without discriminating between political parties, but declined to share any figures. It declined comment on individual cases.

Of the opposition politicians in the scrutiny of the ED, at least a dozen have switched allegiance to the BJP or its alliance in recent years, including three in the past month, according to the compiled data. The opposition says investigations of those who defect are dropped or put on hold.

Kejriwal was arrested by the agency for alleged corruption in awarding liquor licenses in the city. He has denied the allegation.

He said earlier this month: "People are harassed by the ED to coerce them into joining the BJP. If I join the BJP today, I will also stop getting summons from the ED."

The arrest means the main leaders of Kejriwal's decade-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are in jail or ED custody, following the arrests last year of his deputy and another senior colleague in the same case - which the party has called "dirty politics".

JOINING THE BJP

In West Bengal state in India's east, opposition lawmaker Tapas Roy said his office and house were raided by the ED in January in a corruption case. Weeks later, he joined the BJP. He has not heard from the agency since, he says.

"There was absolutely no pressure from the BJP to join it," Roy told Reuters. "I think I will have an opportunity to serve the people with this rising national party."

Asked if he thought the investigation into him would now be put on the back burner, he said: "The investigations should be put on the fastest track."

Modi said last week the ED has registered 4,700 cases since he came to power compared with 1,800 by the previous government, headed by Congress. Properties worth more than 1 trillion rupees ($12 billion) have been seized in the past decade, up from 50 billion rupees in the Congress era.

Sandeep Shastri of political research firm Lokniti Network said the "selective use of agencies for the benefit of the government in power" was not new in India.

"There needs to be a little more transparency in how, and the logic that these agencies use in choosing where and whom they would like to investigate," he said.

In January, the ED arrested the chief minister of the eastern state of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, in a case related to alleged land fraud. Soren, who is allied to Congress, said hours before the arrest that he was the victim of a political conspiracy.

His Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party said more than 1,000 opposition politicians, including current or former lawmakers, who had earlier been accused of corruption by the BJP have defected to the ruling party or have become its allies in the past decade.

Reuters could not independently confirm the number of defectors. The BJP declined comment.

"WEAPONISED"

The ED is one of the smallest federal anti-crime agencies. It has only about 2,000 employees, compared to about 7,000 in the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is patterned on the FBI.

The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, which came into effect in 2005, allows the ED to summon an individual without giving reasons.

In the first nine years of the act, when a Congress-led coalition was in power, the ED carried out 112 searches and filed charges in 104 cases but without any convictions, according to data, opens new tab from the Ministry of Finance that runs the ED. In the first eight years of Modi's rule from 2014/15 and 2021/22, searches jumped to 3,010, charges were filed in 888 cases, and 23 people were dropped.

Not just politicians have been investigated by the ED. Rights group Amnesty International halted its work in India in October 2020 after the ED froze its bank accounts on charges of Amnesty channeling large amounts of money to four entities in India in contravention of laws governing foreign financing.

"Financial and investigative agencies of the government have been weaponized to harass, intimidate, silence, and criminalize independent critical voices in the country," Amnesty said.

Come on, wake up. Modi has become the dictator of India. He is turning the country into a one-party system.

Rajya Sabha MP and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said that money is being taken away forcibly from the Congress party's bank accounts. The Congress leader also claimed that a systematic effort by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is underway to cripple the Congress financially.

Last month, the Congress bank accounts were frozen by the Income Tax department due to a discrepancy in its income tax returns filing for 2018-19. The I-T department alleged the party's auditors mishandled funds and accused the party of taxation-related offences.

She added that funds collected from the public are being frozen. Explaining the details, All India Congress Committee (AICC) treasurer Ajay Maken said the Income Tax Department has served two notices to the Congress for two separate cases dating back to assessment years 2017-18 and 1994-95.

"This issue affects not just Congress, it impacts our democracy itself most fundamentally. A systematic effort is underway by the Prime Minister to cripple the Indian National Congress financially. Funds collected from the public are being frozen and money from our accounts is being taken away forcibly," Sonia Gandhi said during a Congress press conference on Thursday.

She further noted that the grand old party is trying its best to maintain the effectiveness of their Lok Sabha election campaign in these challenging times. "However, even under these most challenging circumstances, we are doing our very best to maintain the effectiveness of our election campaign," the former Congress president said.

Sonia Gandhi also mentioned the contentious issue of electoral bonds during the course of the press conference. She said that the now defunct scheme of political funding benefitted the ruling BJP dispensation hugely.

Calling the action against Congress bank accounts unprecedented and undemocratic, the Rajya Sabha MP said the finances of India's principal Opposition party are "under determined assault."

"On one hand, there is the electoral bond issue, which has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. The electoral bonds have benefitted, as everyone knows, the BJP hugely and massively," Gandhi claimed.

She furthermore said: "On the other hand, the finances of the principal opposition party, the Indian National Congress, are under determined assault. This, we all believe, is unprecedented and undemocratic!"

Commenting on the issue of Congress party bank account, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the bank account has been frozen to ensure they are not able to contest elections on an equal footing. He demanded a "level playing field" to ensure free and fair elections.

"BJP has deposited thousands of crores of rupees in its bank accounts under the election donation scheme which the Supreme Court has declared illegal and unconstitutional. On the other hand, the bank account of the main opposition party (Congress) has been frozen, so that we are not able to contest the elections on an equal footing due to lack of money. This is a dangerous game played by the ruling party," Kharge said.

Not only Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi also talked at length about the grand old party's bank accounts being frozen. Gandhi said that the party is not able to do campaign work and support its workers and candidates.

He added that the grand old party's ability to fight elections has been damaged and the Election Commission of India has not said or done anything in the matter.

"This has been done two months before the election campaign. One notice comes from the 90s, another from 6-7 years ago. Quantum amount Rs 14 lakh and punishment - our entire financial identity...EC has not even said anything...Already, our ability to fight elections has been damaged, we have already lost a month," Rahul Gandhi said.

Excellent, hopefully after 2024, this virus called Congress would be eradicated for good....

India alliance became circus of jokers… in 2023 congress leader Ajay makan made complained against Arvind Kejriwal of 100 crores liquor scam…. Now aap and congress made alliance in Delhi… and to save each other’s corruption, Indian alliance parties are doing summersaults😀

PM Modi conferred Bhutan’s highest civilian honour, becomes 1st foreign head to receive it

lol why not buy him a Filmfare award while you're at it since that's how meaningful this is.

What's more meaningful is the reality - under Modi, India's closest neighboring friend Bhutan has grown distant and leaned towards China. That's all Modi has been capable of. Like, dance around Xi at Mahabalipuram and then lose land to China shortly after. Get humiliated by every single neighbor including Pakistan, for the first time ever.

btw Rotti, I know you have language issues. I didn't mean that literally you know, that you try and buy Modi a Filmfare award. Firstly, it's out of your budget big time. Secondly you have zero ability since you're not even Indian by any technical metric. You probably have as much say in Australia as you have in India, but that's a different topic :dhoni

Come on, wake up. Modi has become the dictator of India. He is turning the country into a one-party system.

BJP currently is the most popular and widely supported political party by a country mile in India.

Narendra Modi is the most popular and widely supported political leader by a country mile in India.

Pakistanis have hard time comprehending the fact that Modi has the support of his people and is therefore the rightful leader of the country. This is not some banana republic where people's mandate is thrown into the bin in broad daylight. Instead of blaming Modi, people should have a look at the Congress/INDIA alliance clownery.

I agree our only way forward is with our puppu..

Let's pray and wait for the elections results, hopefully our Italian ammayi can rule the Indians again :dhoni

I just can't wait for election day, what a fun day that's gonna be 😎

Arvind Kejriwal Challenges Arrest In High Court, Seeks Immediate Release

Terming his arrest and the order sending him to the Enforcement Directorate's custody illegal, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approached the high court for an urgent hearing and sought his immediate release.

The AAP chief was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday in connection with a money laundering case pertaining to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. The agency was granted seven-day custody by the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi on Friday.

Approaching the Delhi High Court on Saturday, Mr Kejriwal has challenged his arrest and the remand order, terming them illegal. Seeking an urgent hearing from the acting chief justice of the high court on Sunday, the chief minister has claimed that he is entitled to be released from custody immediately.

There is absolutely nothing for BJP to gain in getting Kejriwal arrested.
lol you still haven't understood what Modi is all about, have you?

He is a small petty man with a terrible inferiority complex. He's extremely vengeful and can never let go of being insulted.
Kejriwal humiliated him in Delhi parliament calling him an uneducated, low-IQ, corrupt chota man. So he timed the arrest so Kejri would definitely stay in jail for a few days with all the holidays preventing court relief.

:ROFLMAO:

Modi may be a small man with inferiority complex but atleast he ain't a hypocrite like Kejriwal

Btw, what happen to the answer to my questions on the Pakistan Zindabaad thread? Still running away?

@pillionrider - so the same enforcement directorate he (Kejriwal) wanted to be strengthend in 2011 so that Sonia Gandhi can be jailed on corruption charges...the same agency arrested him in 2024 and his supporters are whinning.

It is called Karma bro

:yk

@pillionrider

And last but the least, anyone can make imaginary youtube videos. AAPs youtube page is one such where they day dream that Modi is scared of honest kejriwal etc etc. Well, they are free to think and imagine anything they want.

However, this is how Kejriwal behaves in real life infront of Modi. A lamb infront of tiger.

'Dhyan rakhenge sir...aage se nehi hoga' :yk

Those who r supporting Kejriwal here should answer this…….

When Delhi’s Chief secretary alleged corruption in new liquor policy and demanded CBI probe, at that time Kejriwal government called immediate assembly session and withdrawn new police by restoring old one. If there was no corruption in new liquor policy, then why Kejriwal government withdrawn new liquor policy hurriedly, why they have not remained firm on new liquor policy?

Although even the UK broadsheets are running similar stories about BJP trying to eliminate any opposition, I don't think they have any axe to grind.

Hardly surprising. The mainstream UK media has always been critical of India at best, and outright biased and anti-India at its worst.

I don't think even the most fanatic fans of Modi & the BJP will deny he's intensely political and ruthless. Whether it's selectively pursuing opposition politicians on corruption cases, wholesale defections to topple opposition governments, muzzling press freedoms etc., he's never been shy of showing his authoritarian streak.

Whether you think this is a good thing or not I guess depends on whether you're a means or ends person. Did you like authoritarian governance? Or do you prefer the consensus builders?

I prefer the latter in principle but I have to say I struggle to find an example of a developing country that's pulled itself out of poverty and into middle-income or better status without a strong authoritarian hand at the helm. I think the kind of tough, often unpopular decisions that need to made in these situations are better made under a quasi-dictator so to say. Of course, it's a lottery. You might be lucky and get a Lee Kuan Yew or Kemal Ataturk. You might also be unlucky and get a Ferdinand Marcos or Zia Ul Haq.

I think in Modi, while it's not clearcut, we've probably chanced on more of the first than the second type. For now, given his popularity and the kind of growth we've seen with the Economy, we have no choice but to ride the tiger and hope the democratic institutions we've built over 75 years are strong enough to weather the storm and leave us enough with enough to get back to consensus builder types after he's gone. Other countries have done it. South Korea for example has become a very democratic country after seeing it's strongest growth under Park Chung Hee. I think India's pretty well placed to repeat that. We have a very vibrant, chaotic democracy with pretty deep roots and Modi has been careful not to go too far in tampering with that. To give him credit, he's never challenged an election he's lost even in states like MP, Rajasthan which could be considered Modi/BJP strongholds and there's never been the faintest taint of election rigging on him.

Flippin heck the Indians did to Kejriwal what the Pakistanis did to Imran.

Brutal.
Wrong analogy there.
Imran's party would have won the elections in Pakistan hands down, had he contested.
Kejri is a small time politician in India, who hardly matters outside of Delhi and Punjab.

That piece is written by Amrit Dhillon sitting in Delhi. Pls don't fall for @Cpt. Rishwat 's British propaganda. Times is a global news outlet with headquarters in UK...however everything published there is not the opinion of Britain. It is like an Indian call centre employee working for British Gas office in Bangalore making a statement doesn't make it official British Gas opinion.

UK is busy saving the lucrative trade deal with India.

Brit Pakistani's viewpoint is totally different from British viewpoint and I live in this country so well aware of ground realities.

It is not surprising that liberals are trying to hide under the cartoons. However they will never say what is wrong that ED has done. I hate these cryptic talks...just speak clearly what is in your mind. Of course I can't ask Dhruv Rathee as he has blocked me in twitter and he is not a member here, but his chamchas who shared his twitter...pls educate us how is ED to be blamed here?

In the videos I shared above, Kejriwal himself saying India needs to strengthened its ED & CBI and wanted to jail Sonia Gandhi for corruption. Now he and his party is riddled with corruption, ED gave him 9 summons but he declined and last week he was rightfully arrested and taken to judicial custody. So what is wrong ED has done?

It's not my viewpoint, it was published in The Times. By your own account the writer is based in Dehli and is called Amrit Dhillon. Are you sure he is a Brit Pakistani?

Most British media outlets hire the worst card-carrying communists and leftists as India correspondents. They always show India in a bad light. Amrit Dhillon and other like him will only write what his British bosses want to read.
This has been the case for decades and had annoyed even the leftist PM Jawaharlal Nehru. He held a luncheon for editors of major British newspapers during his first state visit to England, and the first question he asked them was this.

I checked Dhruv rathees YouTube account where I found many blogs against BJP, but surprisingly no vlogs on 70 years of congress’s corruption where billions of rupees scams happened… therefore it is revealed he is against BJP.

His recent blog on electoral bonds is totally biased in which he clearly favoured India alliance and criticised only BJP.

One example to show how he is biased… he alleged one Pune based company BG Shirke bought 118 crores electoral bonds but the reason given by him is just laughable. BG Shirke company bought this bonds because FIR was against the company filed for death of workers as negligence. If any worker lost his finger in factory accident then also police files FIR against the company. In such cases, company settles with worker and get FIR quashed or if that worker demands high amount then company can fight under workman compensation in labour courts. In this case BG Shirke would have easily settled matter with relatives of deceased or they would have fight in labour courts which is cheaper than buying 118 crores electoral bond

Naveen Jindal, kingpin of Coal scam during UPA regime as alleged by sanghis.

He leaves Congress and enters into sanghi fold.

Coal scam, no problem. He'll now be washed by giant sanghi washing machine .

Lol, he has now been fielded from Kurukshetra LS seat in Haryana.

Well done, feku aka hypocrite.

So a tainted politician was a member of congress all these years and congress did nothing? And suddenly they see him as tainted when he leaves congress?

Well done hypocrites.
