What's new

[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Is Mohammad Rizwan currently the world's best batter?

Objective answer: Pakistan won 2/4 games where he scored bulk of those 300 runs you mentioned.
Subjective answer: Even if he scored 3000 runs it wouldn't matter to you. Why? Because hatred.
2 games against teams that qualified for the World Cup.

The 3 games after….what’s been so special about him? 4 more games after this. He will score some runs against Bangladesh

He's gonna say Sri lanka game, just saying so be prepared for that argument.

You're gonna hear this argument for life. 3 years will pass by and fans will keep quoting the Sri lanka game.
They can keep them coming. I’ll continue to deflate them with reality

Wow you are thick indeed. Are you saying there is nothing special about Butler because last I checked he failed against NZ, Bang, Afg and SAF causing his team to lose 3/4 games. Or are we going to see another hypocrisy incoming? Your logic your rules and your choice of stats.

What I find funny, is that out of all the players you can go go ga ga in Pakistan, they choose rizwan 😂😂.

Atleast go go ga ga someone like fakhar or even iftimania makes sense.

Butler has done it all.

What has Rizwan done?

They've chosen the 2nd most annoying person to fanboy, 1st being imam. Both their media antics are beyond hilarious.
Pakistani fans of the entertainment industry

Very bland standards

Butler has done it all.

Stick to your stats. According to your stats and rules Rizwan's 300 runs don't matter as Pakistan is losing. Butler has barely made 100 runs and failed against weaker sides with his team losing 3/4 games. So according to your rules you would have Rizwan over Butler for crunch world cup tournament.

302 of the softest runs in world cup history

The 131 innings was good. Credit needs to be given when it's due. Its just fans overhyped it. The whole rizzu's batting deep approach will never work because chasing 170 in 20 when wickets are done and the field is up and the ball is softer and older will never work against good attacks. No more Sri lanka toothless bowling for rizzu to captilise on

No it wasn't good

He was just lucky Abdullah and Saud were able to take the pressure of him and he could tuk tuk his merry way to a 100.

A good innings was Sarfraz's 50 vs England in the 2019 world cup

A great inning was Sarfraz's 100 vs Ireland in the 2015 world cup

Naw, I can't be biased. Ik you despise rizzu, I stay unbiased.

The innings by rizwan was a good innings in general,

Problem was it was achieved against the worst bowling attack of the tournament.

Rizzu has proven time and time again he's completely clueless against even semi decent attacks.

@Rana Identified it perfectly. Although i only disagree with him about harry brooks and usama mir, i stand by my og claim on usama, guy is predictable and brooks is a hack.

rest i agree with

Rizwan is a poor batsmen.

Today, he knew it was spinning and decided to premeditate sweeps because he has no idea which way it was spinning and how to stay at the crease.

He pretends to be aggressive but most of the times he is incredibly lucky to reach 40 runs by balls going up in the air and landing safe.

That’s 3 games in a row where this guy has deserted his side at their time of need.

-Needed to stay at the crease when India had their tails up but couldn’t understand what to do against Bumrah. Resulting in a huge Pakistan collapse

-Needed to see the game through against Australia but obviously couldn’t do his lapatu’s against Zampa

-Showing his immaturity today at number 4 against quality spinners

When will people see the light with this guy??

You know what? I agree with you bro.

This team is nothing without the performance of Rizwan.

Rizwan is what Lara was to the West Indies. Our version of what Tendulkar was to India.

Pakistan are indeed so reliant on him that out of 11 men it is only his contributions that are the difference between life and death.

Thank you for yet another superb piece of analysis where you point this out for us mere mortals.

Let’s hope the complete idiots over at the PCB realise that the only true replacement for Babar is Asif Ali.

Rizwan is a Nokia to a bunch of blackberries expecting to outperform apple and Samsung's.

Lara was the golden 15 million dollar iphone for his team

Big difference.

Unlike the others, I don't hate rizzu and I gave credit to where credit was due. He played a fantastic innings against Sri lanka 131. But how many times can you take the game deep?

Also rizzu is proving himself to be another minnow basher, and clueless against good quality bowling. Heck chacha is superior to him in thay regard lol

😂Just like poster here mention after every second, Bro Babar played legendary inning in 2019 against newzeland while chasing 237. Don't know why they have so lower standards yesterday some of these fans after first inning Babar played one of his best odi innings this was minefield wicket😃I was thinking what to say them

The 237 innings was good because it was a tough wicket to bat on and Babar hung in their otherwise wed have lost.

So credit is given where its due. But that's only one innings in his entire career. Mot good for a no 1 batter. The amount of tines kohli has performed match winning innings is countless at this point.

Earlier Babar used to be good batsman with his lean physic and commitment to be one of best in world but later on guy got complacent and never improved his game, Ditched his mentor sarfaraz who gave him umpteen chances in test after failing in lot of match but later on involved in petty politics with rizwan against his team mates , Had his PR agency that he uses in sociale media to portray to himself alongside batting greats.

Earlier I used to rate him very good human and batsman but his cringeworthy fans who used to compare him to troll Kohli and and his petty politics, made me hate to this bang average Batsman.

Look we have world class Bowlers Bumrah one of the best and siraj , Shami but we never compare them to disregard or belittle Wasim akram ,imran Khan kind of legends else Bumrah's record is none to second.

While Babar is nowhere near to Kohli still his fans 🤣

I don't think sarfraz was babar's mentor lol, he just identified that this lad shpuld bat at no 3 in all formats.

Babar obviously betrayed that philosophy by opening in t20 lol, he got obsessed with milestones rather them trying to improve his own game

Leg side hack. Quality bowlers make him look like a club-level batsman.

He can never be the best batsman in the world.

Why on earth would a player attempt a Leg side slog sweep instead of a pull shot against a short ball, especially when the ball is pitched outside the off stump?
Only Rizwan can play such an awkward shot.

Sometimes I wonder how this guy manages to score runs with such poor shot selections and blind slogs.

Coetzee seems like WWE man, Shastri commentating in Pakistan games to rub salt, Rizwan like his forefathers got undone by a short ball

I told everyone that match rizwan won against srilankan attack was just a good innings because that Lankan attack was worst of the tournament and I told it at that time to he isn't going to make match winning runs against Good sides🤨I proved right just a mediocre another minnow basher top of that he involved in politics inside team 🤨

This guy is good for nothing but here people were hyping him better than Dkock and Buttler, Even best wkeeper.

Shafique ,saud is good guy but if they will remain in Babar's shadow they will also become defensive m

Laws Explainer: Why Markram wasn’t given out after leaving his ground

Aiden Markram glanced back slightly nervously over his shoulder when he heard the stumps clatter during his innings against Pakistan in Chennai on Friday.

The South African needn’t have worried, as wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan grinned in response, and a potential moment of controversy was sidestepped.

The incident evoked memories of Jonny Bairstow’s run-out during the summer’s Ashes series against Australia. But Markram’s situation was different for a few reasons.

In this case, a short ball from Haris Rauf whistled past Markram and bounced just before reaching Rizwan. The keeper bowed his head towards the turf upon receiving the ball.

At the same time, Markram tapped his foot in the crease and walked up the wicket. Rizwan under-armed the ball back towards the direction of both the wickets and Rauf, and when the ball struck the stumps, Markram was well out of his ground.

Here’s why the South African was not given out:

No appeal:

The umpires were left with no decision to make because Rizwan and none of the Pakistan team appealed.

If they had appealed, then the match officials would certainly have had to have looked at replays.

The ball was (probably) dead”

Had Pakistan appealed, then that would have muddied the waters as to whether the fielding side believed the ball to be in play or not.

A batter cannot be run out when a ball is considered dead. In the Bairstow run-out at Lord’s, even though the batter considered the over to be finished, the ball was not dead because wicket-keeper Alex Carey had intentionally thrown the ball back towards the stumps in virtually the same motion as receiving it.

There are a number of laws around dead ball. The Playing Conditions for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 are consistent with those, and relevant laws state:

- “The ball becomes dead when it is finally settled in the hands of the wicket-keeper or of the bowler.”

- “The ball shall be considered to be dead when it is clear to the bowler’s end umpire that the fielding side and both batters at the wicket have ceased to regard it as in play.”

- “Whether the ball is finally settled or not is a matter for the umpire alone to decide.”

Markram tapped his boot in the crease before leaving, which many batters do to signal that they are not making a run. But that alone doesn’t make the ball dead. It simply illustrates that the batter considers the ball dead.

The decision in this case would have been whether the ball was “settled” in Rizwan’s gloves.

It's impossible to know for sure, but the dipping of his head and the length of time between Rizwan receiving the ball and throwing it back in the direction of the stumps means that the umpires would almost certainly have ruled the ball dead even had Pakistan appealed.

As it was, the umpires replaced the bails, both teams smiled, the crowd cheered, and everybody moved on.

To be fair, he has had a decent World Cup.

On his game against South Africa: He may have only scored 31 but his intent was clear this time. Even after getting dropped first ball, he didn't waste any time and hit a four the next delivery. In the past, he has started slow. But there was a clear game plan from him this time, which I thought was good. Intent that was missing from our other lads

Obviously, he has talent, that's why he is there. I am talking about his shot selection, not his talent or skill.
Even talented players get out with poor shot selections like blind slogs; that's why I am pointing it out.

Babar's numbers are woeful.

In isolation the half century column looks reasonable, but when viewed in conjunction with the rest of the stats it really does lend weight to the notion of scoring to preserve his stats. Striking at 79... averaging 35... 0 impact. This might be a Rizwan thread, and he has indeed had a very decent WC, but it shows up Babar unfortunately.

Is rizwan the roman reigns of cricket? 👺, I mean pcb is his Yard now.

Pakistan deserves such crap. No way a number 4 but still he is a senior so he will get what he wants .

Pakistan need to focus on azam and Harris for coming WCs . Start now ! Rizwan can stay in tests

His dismissal today was a summary of Pakistan’s 4 years since the removal of Sarfaraz from the team

Rizwan seems like a dual personality person outside the field he is propagating righteousness morality meritocracy equality, but on field he seems complete opposite of it

He's superior to Babar in terms of rankings in t20. And he outperformed babar during last year's t20 World Cup. Ik the upcoming Asia cup is ODI, but I feel Rizwan will replicate his t20 performance into odi due to Sri lanka being notorious for being spin friendly wickets, and rizwan is best player of spin in Pakistan, possibly the world atm.

He's not in the top 250 batters in the world.

Yeah best at acting.

Watch his dismissal today to know how he has perfected that art.

Rauf is trending. But i also see Rizwan's act is silently trending. It is going to gather momentum because it is too funny.

Kamran literally performed in one match after flopping hard in every other match whereas rizwan gives consistent performances. Also rizwan will win Pakistan 2023 World Cup, Mark my words. Highlight this comment for when rizwan scores the 100 and plays the winning shot this coming world cup.
I just opened this thread for the first time and saw this. Perfect timing to "highlight this comment" as Pakistan gets ready to head home :ROFLMAO:

Here's the thing as well. Anytime I have analysed something, 90% of the time I am proven right.

Rizwan and chacha have been the only exception and that's because their so inconsistent.

I have seen rizwan handle quality bowling of bunrah and played brilliant match winning knocks like the one today, but I have also seen him play match losing knocks like the last Asia cup against sl, and play like a complete tail ender against average bowling.

He's so inconsistent, it messes up my analysis.

Regardless my original stance does not change. Fakhar, Imam, Babar and rizwan

All 4 of these guys cannot play, we need 2 accumulators and not 4. So if you want to keep babar and rizwan sure. But all 4 can't occupy the Top slots.

It needs to be mixed with saim ayub for striking along with saud in the middle to handle spin because rizwan played like a champ but he did look clueless against spin early on same with babar, something Abdullah and saud do not struggle with.

But as I said, keep 2 accumulators, not 4.
"Regardless my original stance does not change. Fakhar...

All 4 of these guys cannot play"

After saying he cannot play, it took one game for you to address him as Pakistan's best ODI bat in the last decade?

Rizwan is overly hated. Yes he's not a world beater and isn't a De Kock, but it's shocking to see people call for Azam Khan over him. If Azam Khan lost half his weight, he'd be a great batter and WK. But right now he is nowhere even remotely near international fitness. We saw him embarrass himself all series against Afghanistan when Pak let Rizwan rest post-World Cup. M Haris can be groomed but his temperament needs some major working on. I hope he can be ready for next year's t20 WC

Rest of my threads are serious and to the point, This one is obviously me not being serious. 😂😂.

Everyone over here already knows my opinions on rizzu lol.

There was never a point when Rizwan was the Pakistan's best batter let alone world's best batter.

Fakhar has been the best batter of Pakistan since 2017 (despite his occasional bad forms).

Regardless this thread is a rizzu discussion thread.

So all positives or negatives about rizwan and all his milestones, stats etc should be discussed here

Career in a nutshell (TLDR 7 pages)

The problem with Rizwan is that some days he plays as a wicketkeeper only, other days he plays as a tailender only and there are days when he plays as a comedian.

Rizwan would have been embrassed same way vs Afghanistan in UAE remember the naseem shah six game . How Rizwan played . Noor ahmed humbled Rizwan in WC. Just because azam is not fit doesn’t mean Rizwan is any good pure average cricketer hyped by PR and captain friend

Yeah man it's called changing your opinion in the face of new evidence. I'm not that close minded such that I'm blind to reason.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Rizwan; he played a fantastic innings and shut me up. I'm just saying he's not the world's best batter.

And since you're asking here's the players I personally would take over Rizwan off the top of my head. It's a subjective list. With this list I likely have him ranked top 10-20 on current form, which I think is fair and a better representation of his skill over the ICC ranking.

Definitely take in this Pakistan XI over Rizwan
1. Virat Kohli
2. Rohit Sharma
3. Shubman Gill
4. Jonny Bairstow
5. Jos Buttler
6. David Warner
7. Quinton de Kock
8. Aiden Markram
9. Rassie van der dussen
10. Dawid Malan

Would likely take over Rizwan but wouldn't be upset if people take Rizwan instead
11. KL Rahul
12. Shreyas Iyer
13. Dawid Malan
14. Steve Smith
15. Joe Root
16. David Miller
17. Heinrich Klaasen
18. Risabh Pant

Would personally NOT pick over Rizwan but would understand if people did
19. Kusal Mendis
20. Alex Carey
21. Harry Brook
22. Liam Livingstone
23. Glen Maxwell
24. Ishan Kishan
25. Kane Williamson

Looking back on this list I made two months ago, I'd probably move Rizwan down a bit. Didn't even mention Travis Head who i'd take easily, probably Shreyas Iyer and Klaassen and maybe even Kishan

That is what makes Rizwan superior to many other top rated batsmen.

Never seen the lengths people will go to somehow convince themselves Rizwan is a bad batsman. There isn’t a player in history I can think of producing those sort of stats and is disrespected like this lol.

Sure there can be arguments whether better or not compared with the best currently. But he’s clearly not average nor bad. His output is just far too high to debate that. And if he’s at least better than average, he can not exactly be a liability to the team we are struggling to even fill the batting slots with above average batsmen. Replace the average/below average batsmen first before going after Rizwan who has producing some of the best batting returns over the last few years of any player.

He's a good Batesman pluss he's a brilliant keeper.

Disastrous year for Pakistan cricket

Fantastic year for Rizwan

Rizwan is Cummins' bunny 🐇🐰
But at the same time, Rizwan isn't shy to try to attack him.

Rizwan has been brilliant so far. He has outclassed every Pak Batter so far. Playing with a strike rate of 80 is not everybody's cup of tea. Should be getting his century here.

Guy's been phenomenal in this match. Probably the only reason the match will go to 3 days!
