[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Mohammad Haris - Aggressive wicket-keeper batter

This was the best innings I have seen from him. And it needs to be pointed out that he has evolved as a batsman. You see him playing alot more of those dabs down third man. And in general he has improved greatly at finding gaps and rotating the strike. Only four dot balls in a 46 ball innings is crazy...especially for a Pakistani batsman.
 
Selectors are finally placing trust in Mohammad Haris, who recently smashed his maiden T20I century in the third match against Bangladesh. Interestingly, Jason Gillespie had pushed for his inclusion in the white-ball squad for the Australia tour last year—but his recommendation was overlooked.

Ignored by who? The captain or the selectors?
 
Pretty crazy stat that he is the first non opener to get a century for Pakistan in T20I's. Just shows you how far behind Pakistan has been with rest of modern cricket and this is the first step towards catching up.

Heck of a series from Haris and happy to see him getting his flowers after endless amount of criticism for the way he played last few years. This is the approach Pakistan needs and hopefully we see more modern batters like him coming through the system.

“I have no desire to be captain,”

“I prefer focusing on my own performance and fulfilling the role the team expects from me. Everyone saw in the last series how much my game awareness has improved, and I want to build on that,”

The Big Bash League is a prestigious tournament, and I wish all participating players the best. But at the moment, my priority is national duty. League opportunities come and go, and I’ll only consider playing when I’m fully available and ready.”

“This skills camp is proving to be very helpful in identifying and correcting our mistakes. We are working on the aspects highlighted by the coaching staff and making a conscious effort to improve both individually and as a team,”

“I’m working hard to improve my game awareness. Every cricketer needs to read the match situation and respond accordingly, and that’s something I’m trying to develop further,”

“Right now, my focus is on improving my defensive technique, which is crucial across all formats,”

“I’m known for hitting fours and sixes, but modern cricket demands a complete game. I’m now putting effort into rotating the strike — working on singles and doubles — to become more consistent,”

“I’ve played red-ball cricket in the domestic season, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Moving forward, I aim to perform well and earn a place in the national red-ball team,”

“Each camp has a different structure, but this one focuses specifically on addressing players’ weaknesses — particularly in areas like bat speed and power-hitting, which are extremely important in today’s game,”

Guy is a complete liability unless the pitch is a motorway. A waste of a valuable spot in the team. His keeping isn't great either.

Get rid. Give Farhan the gloves or find a new keeper who actually can bat.

Farhan is not a keeper. Giving him the gloves will be a big blunder both in terms of keeping and in distracting him from his main job.

He is better than all of them as openers and their respective records prove it. However, Farhan is in very good form and deserves to open with Rizwan.

You may have tried Nawaz before, he shut the door on both Babar and Rizwan

If Harris fails, they will bring in Nafay to shut the door on Babar and Rizwan.

Nah. Afridi could actually bat. His Chennai inning, 50s in semi final and final of wt20 09 are a proof that he had another way of batting than just slogging. Afridi could also bowl well enough to be the lead spinner of the team in LOIs. Later on as Afridi got older, he just gave up the hard part of crafting an inning (around 2012) and was okay with just swinging the bat around and saying himself I am a bowler who can occasionally score runs.
Haris on the other hand, he just keeps swinging whether he's 3 off 10 deliveries or 30 off 10.

This is how the game is played these days. You don't get to a strike rate of 145 with risk free cricket. Issue is not swinging on every delivery but improving his head position and swinging the bat in right direction i.e shot selection.
 
Not sure why people rate him too high..He is talented but he is a brainless slogger. No sense how to craft innning. No sense how to get out of trouble in case there is pressure.

He put extra pressure on farhan in the 3rd game, due to which he got out slogging. HIs keeping has been below average also...

If that was the way cricket is being played these days, then every gully and street cricketer would be wreaking havoc in domestic cricket and there would be 30-40 batters knocking down selection doors.
None of the successful batters of this age is a one trick pony. Even the WI t20 journeymen don't swing the bat as aimlessly.
Farhan was batting alongside Haris, and you could see he was not making himself look like a fool in the middle despite striking at over 145.

Harris essentially made his debut in Australia (toughest place for a Pak newbie) during a WC and took on the top bowlers like Rabada and Ferguson. He just hit a 45 ball T20I hundred a month ago. Don't think every 'gully and street cricketer' can do that.

Unless he improves, he will remain a street cricketer. One can attribute the debut performance for the novelty factor.
He hasn't really done anything apart from that 1 t20i hundred in other outings. Even Ahmed Shehzad scored a t20i 100. He was a below average cricketer.

He needs proper coaching. He’s got the raw ability.

Bunnyrabbit if I’m not mistaken is a Misbah fan so if Harris can’t tuk tuk like his hero, he’s no good to the Pakistan team.

I am a fan of Pak Cricket. Misbah was a good test captain and test batter. Any batter isn't good enough for Pak if he can't perform. We are talking about Harris in t20is atm. No need to take criticism of Harris personally.

Oh that figures. Lot of our fans want a 140+ sr batsman who can also play classy cover drives and leave a good length 5th stump ball on merit !
 
Haris has a poor technique and zero game awareness... He cannot handle difficult pitches... Flat track bully he is.
 
Said it a few years ago, he needs to work on his keeping and seeing him still make those mistakes.

He won't last long in internationals if he stays like this.
 
I don't think Haris will be dropped now until the asia cup and maybe t20 WC. Investment is there. He is getting full chance and so far, apart form that century on flatest track, he has been below below below Par.

You can get away by being not so good behind the stumps in T20. But I'm sure his glovework will improve with the passage of time. He's a good cricketer.

Nowhere near Rizwan in any format and he is not in the same class with the gloves either.

When Rizwan retires, someone else will take over. This arrogant hack with zero talent hasn’t got what it takes to be the long-term all-format keeper.

He is only a superstar for himself and his 2-3 0 IQ fans on PP.

Maxwell? Give me a break. Maxwell is an all-round cricketer that every team would dream of. Averaging 34 in ODIs after 150 matches, striking at close to 130, handy bowler and one of the all time great fielders.

Never mind averaging 34, Haris won't even reach 34 runs in his ODI career. Take a serious look at this guy's stats. There are genuinely tailenders in international cricket with better numbers. Compare him with David Willey. Their FC, T20 and List A stats (averages, strike rates) are more or less the same. And then think about how Willey played as a bowler and mostly batted between 8th-10th for England, while Haris gets lauded as a great batting prodigy.

It's an insult to compare Maxwell to this useless hack.

These are all of Haris' innings for Pakistan: 6, 0, 4, 17*, 3, 7, 28, 31, 30, 8, 6, 15, 1, 0, 0, 11, 41, 2, 11, 31, 41, 107*, 4, 0, 5, 6*, 4.

15 times dismissed in single figures in 27 innings. That is beyond disgraceful for a so called "batsman".

Pakistan cricket is going nowhere as long as fans keep cherishing mediocre cricketers.

Missing @Farabi who once predicted this guy will be the best opener in Asia
 
His strength is the fact he can play down the order unlike Rizwan allowing us to try a different opening pair of Saim and Farhan.

More than his batting really, I think he should more importantly improve his keeping. If he’s coming down low down the order for a few hits than it’s fine, but he’s got to keep well.

I don’t think he has the consistency to do well at 3 for now, but if the position is open I don’t mind him batting there. Right now I can only think of one alternative in Babar, so it’s not like we have a slew of batsmen to play at 3 instead. But to fair to him looks like he’s already been demoted with fakhar batting at 3 so he’s not batting high anyway.

So yeah I think his main focus should be improving keeping now. Right now it isn’t the batting, his keeping feels a definite downgrade right now.
