He is playing the role Mohammad Hafeez used to play.

It is always beneficial for a team when an opener can chip in with some handy overs.

Saim Ayub moves back to the top spot on the ICC Men's T20I All-Rounder Rankings on the back of some excellent showings for Pakistan during their 3-0 series whitewash over Australia on home soil, with the 23-year-old replacing Zimbabwe veteran Sikandar Raza in the top spot.

hoping to see some really good performances in T20 wc

Not sure why he did not bowl much today... 1 over 7 runs and 2 wickets for him today agianst Dutch.. in WC opener.

Surprised he only bowled 1 over today. I thought he should've bowled more.

Anyway, he had a good day. Took 2 wickets and scored a quickfire 24.

Saim Ayub survives a close LBW call against USA in T20 World Cup 2026, courtesy of Umpire's call

Not convinced by him, seems like a walking wicket especially against decent teams.

Doesn’t seem to have developed his mental game either. You could see that from his dismissal today.

saim needs to do better... His batting has been low quality.... Bro is finding new ways to get out and getting out on easy balls.

He continues to make some impact with the ball as he takes the big wicket of Ishan Kishan who was looking very threatening.

Very impressive spell here by Saim as he finished with 3 wickets for 25 runs in his 4 overs.

He is a bowler now... Stop calling his batter.. He has become a Shadab Khan-level batter..

So let me get this straight—Saim Ayub has managed just 151 runs in 14 innings across two T20 World Cups and an Asia Cup, averaging a mighty 10.2… and somehow he’s hyped as Pakistan’s most destructive opener? Enough of this fantasy!

May aswell use him as a lower order batsman and primarily a spinner. Guy surely has lost all ability to be the opening batsman of the national team. Walking wicket top of the order against good bowling attacks

He needs to play with the mindset of scoring 60 of 40 balls...... Not playing silly no look shot once he gets to 20.

The two before him used to score those, if 60 off 40 was not good enough for them then it is certainly not good enough for a slogger like Saim, should be 80 or 70 off 40

This is embarrassing now . I doubt any player with these performances would have stayed in team . Typical golden boy treatment. Babar in making

Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton was run out for 5 (5) after Salman Agha’s quick gather and throw found Saim Ayub in time, catching him short of his crease.

Couldn’t do it against Namibia either. He’s been given the easiest position in opening and he’s failing game after game.

There are tons of players that will do a better job than what Saim is doing as opener. He’s wasting it.

I dunno how long we’re gonna wait for him to click. It’s not fair on the other batsmen who have to bat middle order. Not fair on his opening partner who has to bat with him. Not fair on the other guys who were dropped instead.

I’d rather drop him mid order and give Usman a go now. I know Usman looks rubbish but middle order batting is much tougher, you never know how well he could do, given he clearly did it at domestic.

No one is talking about this fraud.. Golden boy is getting golden treatment??? WHYYY?

Absolute failure as an opener. No way we can keep playing him now.. Fraud

Useless and rubbish, you always feel he’s going to get out next ball.

Need someone more solid at the top of the order.

Saim is more like a bowling all-rounder nowadays.

He lost form with the bat. Needs to get his batting form back.

But nobody is talking about him... Everyone is busy mocking Babar and doing point scoring..

I hear you, prob cos the few times he does fire can score quickly. But like you say shouldn’t excuse his pathetic performances with the bat.

I shared his stats in tournaments, they are pathetic but people are giving him a safe path in the name of talent this talent that...

If he is not batting well, he has not place to stick to the opening slot.. He can play down the order with nawaz and shadab. or just get dropped because he is not doing his job

Saim’s output is so poor as an opener that I would rather Usman Khan opens in the next game.

6 times he's got a start in 13 innings half of those starts need to be converted into 50.... He is playing silly shots to balls he shouldn't be getting out to... he has time to improve as his bowling has been decent.

Needs to play the ball on his merit he can easily catch up.

As I have been saying, he needs to be in the middle order while Fakhar needs to take his position to open. Ideally, he should replace Babar.

No look clown shots lol He is not even that power ful. Saeed anwar even with those old bats could flick more powerfully than Saim Ayub who has access to better bats. And also that shot works only when the ball doesn't move. If it swings in the air he could hole out. He probably should come after the ball is 4 overs old. He can get away with those "style" shots.

Yup. That's one good option.

He hasn't done that great as an opener. Very inconsistent. But, his bowling is handy.

its to build a bit of confidence... Once he gets to 50 then he can hit out 50 of 35 can become 70 of 45.

Ricky Ponting speaking on the ICC Review Podcast:

"He's [Saim Ayub], I think, that youthful talent that is a bit like a Dewald Brevis. If he can put a couple of good performances on the board, then Pakistan becomes hard to beat."

If he's failing as a batter consistently, then his bowling form doesn't really matter.

He’s lost his way but seems to be a fan favourite here. Batting stats shared by @BouncerGuy suggests he’s a below average batter. His no look shot is pure cringe as far as I’m concerned.

Somebody in dressing room needs go give him 2 whacks, Kaan k neche k banda ban k Khel.

Pakistan need runs from his bat badly.

What happened to Saim the batter bro. He played some match winning knocks in Australia last year but afterwards he just flopped and flopped.

What happened to Saim the batter bro. He played some match winning knocks in Australia last year but afterwards he just flopped and flopped.

He focused on his bowling and neglected his batting.

Now he is just another bits and pieces player.

Blame the coaches for letting him choose this direction.

Should have doubled down on his batting. A stint in county cricket and first class cricket. Polished his batting.

He might click against SL and his fans will go gaga.. his inconsistency and incompetence at the top sets up pak for failure.

Instagram players always end up like this everyone was crazy on him on socials . Wow look at the talent we found . He gonna be next Saeed Anwar. Once in generation talent . While there was no hype about Farhan these past few years . And last who performed ? That is reason I don’t trust hype brigade here and on other social media. They sold us same chooran about Babar and many others .

He has not performed with his bat, his primary job, since his injury. Why did the genius coach did not switch his batting position with Fakhar, who performed well as an opener in ACC final and constantly been moved around every which way except where he excelled?

Saim knows that Hesson is obsessed with all-rounders, and there is no way he can be dropped if he somehow becomes 1. For that, he sacrificed his batting and became a minnow-level batter, and his focus is more towards his bowling.

you guys should notice how confident he is while bowling, but he fades away when he steps out to bat.

Okay play him but as a bowling all-rounder then, lower down in the order. On his day he’s a brilliant exploiter of power play fielding restrictions but those days are too few and far between. His inconsistency does not lend itself to opening position for a team as fickle as pak.

His no look shots especially

He has been utter failure so far with bat

He has been useless for too long now. Kick him out. He has failed badly in two tournaments now.

His primary job is batting and he has completely forgotten how to bat.

Basit Ali speaking during a TV show:

"Common sense only comes into play when you believe in yourself; without that self-belief, nothing will happen. The way he is getting out-playing those pull shots without properly judging the ball clearly reflects a total lack of game awareness. There is nothing we can do. Vo sabka laadla hai (He is everyone's darling); he automatically becomes the favorite of whoever happens to be the captain."

Time is running out.

If Pakistan crashes out and he faisl again against Sri Lanka, i wont be surprised if he's axed.

What do these guys want? RizBar dropped because of not taking risks and now they want Saim to play with common sense. Imo our pundits are the ones lacking common sense

Saim is a genuine talent. It’s not like the others that we overhype. In fact he’s arguably the only batsman I can see from Pakistan and say this guy has the skills and abilities to play modern day t20 cricket. The rest can still do a job for us but they’re flawed talents.

But it isn’t working. In bilateral maybe it’s alright to keep him as opener failing. But in tournaments it’s too much. We saw dropping him down helped us in Asia cup. And that England match this World Cup was close, could have made a difference.

Am in two minds. Part of me wants to back him, part of me thinks we need to stop he’s played a ridiculous amount of matches now.
