[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Physical fitness camp in Kakul, attended by 29 Pakistani players comes to an end [Update at Post#228]

nothing more than a topi drama, do other top cricketers train with the army, do top footballers train with the army regularly, do f1 drivers, etc, train with the army, no, as a top athlete your fitness should be specialised for the job you need to do, not for marching and fighting wars, which tbh even the pak army dont do.

some good media for the army, but a generally useless exercise, if your top players arent professional enough to care about their fitness a two week camp wont change anything. and surprise surprise, those who do best in these camps are the guys who have good fitness standards camp or no camp.

Are you even a full time athlete if you're not spending 2 hours in the gym working on your physique on top of nets training?

I wonder how these players feel when they mingle with the SENA teams? Don't they feel they should be doing the same?

Yeah now he's working hard to regain the captaincy :ROFLMAO:
He was always a hard worker, the reason why he is a top cricketer today is because he was a hard worker from day 1.

Captaincy or no captaincy never changed his work ethics.
There is a reason why he plays and went on to captain Pakistan, while non of the Akmal brothers were able to keep there spots or get the captaincy.

Yeah no doubt he is!

But remember captaincy had affected his game negatively. So why not avoid the captaincy role and just concentrate on his batting? Because I believe he is a way better player compared to being a better captain.

Definitely. He's one of the rarest Pakistani Cricketers who is actually (close to) to doing justice to his talent.

He wouldn't be anywhere near a great batter that he is today without a hunger of learning and work ethic.

Not every great batter can also be a great captain. He has done his job earlier and this time it is not the same situation. He is being asked to captain the side jus to slaughter him. He is a scapegoat and should not accept the captaincy role now. Not worth it.

He should focus on his training and fitness at the camp for now. No need to even think about other stuff.

Also don't understand the need for physical training during the day when players are fasting?

What's the point? Why not switch night and day for Ramadan?

T20 World Cup will not be held in Ramadan conditions so no need.

The runs are happening at night i think.
The other training which is light is happening in day.

However the training that the 2016 team recieved was more tough.

Anyways, its the players fault for not being fit and have to do this in ramazan

Some work being done in the day - I see no point in that.

So Rizwan is not only the fastest to run 2km but also the best fielder.

I guess Irfan Niazi had a better score than him and he was also the fielder of the tournament in PSL 9.
Yes but Rizwan surely takes it.
Going by form, Rizwan would have done at least twenty stretches and felt cramp during his run... so take away at least 2-3 minutes for that and bang, you have the fastest Pakistani on the planet

The problem in Pakistan is that if you are extremely fit, you are a crap modern white ball batsman.

Name me one extremely fit guy who is good enough to be considered a modern white ball batsman in Pakistan?

Man looking at these cirkceters i can say for sure that none of them ever did any leg days, i.e. if they went to gym. Shocking, absolutely shocking.

Genetically south asians have thin arms and legs and not very long limbs .

Lol holiday camp is in full swing

Tbh I think it's harmless.

The team also needs to be gell together and getting to spend time is a good way to do that.

The good thing about 2024 cup is that the team is stronger then pur 2023 team

The bad news is, given the tournament format, it'll be 100x harder to qualify to semi's.

2022 qualifying ti semi's was a walk in the park in comparison.

Things in PCB seems to be going through turbulence but players seem to be genuinely happy in each other's company here. If they can do good team bonding activities which produces sense of camaraderie between players, then it is a really good thing in my opinion, something that Pakistan cricket team needs to more often.

Good to see these guys having a laugh with each other. We seriously need a glued unit. Cannot have individuality in the team, cannot afford it now.

The only people worried about group dynamics are all of us posters. We have 0% knowledge of what is actually happening in the camp.

Saud Shakeel seem to be finding the obstacles during training tough. He looked particularly nervous in obstacles where he had to jump.

The pcb posted a video of the camp. There’s one scene where everyone are doing burpees and Azam Khan is in the last row just standing there 😂

Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Mohsin Naqvi will visit Kakul, Abbottabad today to have a meeting with the players there in their fitness camp.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to announce the squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand on April 5th.

The selection committee members are currently assessing the fitness levels of the players at the Kakul fitness camp. They will provide a detailed report to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is scheduled to visit Kakul today to meet the players. Naqvi has directed the selectors that there will be no compromise on fitness.

Discussions are in progress among the selectors concerning potential players for the squad. Recommendations, following consultations with captain Babar Azam, will be submitted to the Cricket Board Chairman for approval.

According to sources, selectors are contemplating the implementation of a rotation policy to mitigate the risk of injuries in preparation for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. Specifically, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah are earmarked to play in selective matches against New Zealand to manage their workload and mitigate injury risks before the T20 World Cup.

Pakistan players on ongoing fitness drills in Kakul camp:

"I think we need to organize such camps if you have time. The thing is that so much cricket is happening these days that you hardly have time for such (fitness) sessions. Obviously, every individual works on his fitness and organizing such camps would be beneficial for the team fitness" Hasan Ali

"This is a very challenging environment for us, we are training out of our comfort zone. We are fasting, and we are doing all sorts of physical exercises here. The weather here is so pleasant, it's serene, and we are enjoying each other's company" Saim Ayub

"It's too tough. There are working on our stamina here. And the more stamina a sportsman possess, the better he delivers. I think when you tire less, then certainly you can think well to execute your plans" Mohammad Amir

Honestly would love to see a fit Mohammad Amir steaming in this world cup. For the past few years he has looked down in terms of fitness and that has greatly affected his pace and bowling. A fit Amir would be a sight for sore eyes and this could be his final hurrah before he ends his career.

The problem in Pakistan is that if you are extremely fit, you are a crap modern white ball batsman.

Name me one extremely fit guy who is good enough to be considered a modern white ball batsman in Pakistan?
Name me one unfit guy who's supposedly better than the fit ones?

Personally this entire camp is a waste of time.

No other team has done this. And most of them have consistently fared better than Pakistan across formats.

Name me one unfit guy who's supposedly better than the fit ones?
One? Sharjeel Khan, Azam Khan, Umar Akmal

3 names that come at the top of my head who still hit the ball or try to hit the ball harder than these certified Tuks

Lol trust me, not a single player has the cajones to take Mohsin Naqvi on or enter his bad books. They know full well who he is connected too and how powerful his relationship with that person is.

Why did naqvi come to the camp?

Surely it can't be to simply apologise to shaheen?

He is all over the place but he works very hard at his job. According to a sports reporter he is taking all of his jobs seriously i.e. he dedicates morning to evening daily to his duties as interior minister, evening to mid night to his duties as PCB chairman, he will run the PCB virtually from Monday to Thursday but be on the PCB premises on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Wahab and the guy Bilal are keep tabs in the PCB on his behalf

As per media reports, the ongoing camp of the national cricket team in Kakul is likely to conclude soon. Instead of April 8, the physical fitness camp could be completed by April 6. Due to Eid, the fitness camp of national players is being concluded early.

As per reports:

Haris Rauf is still in the process of recovery and will remain under rehabilitation, which will result in his absence from the series against New Zealand.

Exactly , heard Azam khan couldn’t even complete 2km run , withdrew from running at 1.5 km which he took 20 mins. Well people could walk 1.5 km in 20 mins. How bad is his fitness playing international cricket.

He should be thrown away. The point i wanna make is Irfan niazi who was thr first to finish the 2km run in 7 mins faster than Rizwan will be discarded for Azam khan who cant even complete the run. then y this drama camp.

This is both embarrassing and irritating, TBH.

Are you preparing your players for a cricket competition or a battle? Moreover, how does this benefit your fast bowlers who are already susceptible to injuries?

You’re risking their physical well-being merely to enhance your reputation through these players by putting them through such trainings.

Saw some of the routines. Are these even needed? Are they going to climb something on a cricket field. You probably just need a lot of stretching.

Saim Ayub is doing drills at Kakul Training Camp.

Well, people are worrying that such drills can cause injuries. But trust me, these are basic drills that should be easy for any athlete.

View attachment 143043

Basic drills for any athlete? How is a bootcamp specifically designed for military purposes in any way relevant for “any athlete?” I can already tell you that some of the drills from the footage are not used in football, they are AVOIDED.

Running whilst slouching with a human body on your back is extremely dangerous for the back and tendons/joints. Instead the modern sports and modern athletes will
use weighted vests.

Furthermore, look at when Ayub picks up that block, the posture and form is horrible, you are asking for injuries.

Please stop misleading things when Pakistan already so behind the fitness culture. The least we can do is provide accurate information on what is right and wrong so the younger generation know what to avoid and what to do as part of their fitness regime.

Pakistan one of the few countries where they don't have a culture around aesthetic body building and fitness. Majority are overweight or skinny fat. They value being overweight because its a sign of affluence and being able to afford food like in African cultures. So ofcourse they have no concept of anything that you are referring to.

I agree some of these drills are not suitable. They should have designed something specifically for them. They just don't have the attention to detail do they.

Seems like they're centuries behind the whole physical wellbeing act.

I guess Babar Azam has only enjoyed the serenity of Kakul. He didn't engage in any fitness activities or drills

Babar Azam reflects on pre-season camp in Kakul

Aamer Jamal, Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan say they immensely enjoyed and benefited from the rigorous training drills and programmes that were designed by the Pakistan Army experts and strategists

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has termed the pre-season camp in Kakul as highly successful, adding that it not only contributed to preparing the players for the long and challenging cricket season ahead but also strengthened unity and understanding amongst the group through strategically designed team bonding exercises and drills.

Babar Azam was joined by Aamer Jamal, Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan in paying tribute to the facilities, atmosphere, and support of the highly trained and skilled instructors. They also believed the 11 days spent at the location will help them successfully overcome the demands of upcoming challenges and contribute in producing strong performances.

Twenty-nine elite cricketers attended the pre-season camp at the historic and iconic Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul from March 26 to April 6, with the training and drills designed by Pakistan Army experts and strategists. During the camp, there was a focus on team building aimed to enhance the physical and mental strength of the players, ensuring they were in the best condition to face the challenges ahead.

Under the guidance of experienced trainers and coaches, the players underwent a comprehensive training regime tailored to elevate their fitness levels, agility, leadership, strategic thinking and overall performance on the field.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam:

“This was my third boot camp, and with each visit, I’ve gleaned new insights.

“This time, our focus extended beyond physical fitness to encompass team bonding activities and performance-improving lectures. These elements are crucial considering our team environment where collective performance is paramount for achieving desired results.

“The notable deviation from previous camps was the absence of cricket-centric activities. Instead, the emphasis was squarely on physical conditioning, teamwork and mental resilience. Immersed in such an inspiring facility, guided by top-notch instructors and a well-structured programme, all the players have experienced significant growth. I’m confident that we’ll return to competitive cricket as better, fitter and mentally tougher athletes, thereby enhancing our overall performance.

“Unlike our usual routine during other camps and international series, we engaged in confidence-building exercises and team-building activities. Notably, we opted to share rooms, facilitating deeper connections among team members. These shared spaces fostered discussions ranging from strategic planning and team combinations to the evolution of cricket, latest innovations in the sport, analysis of opponents and our approach to each day's challenges.

“Given the upcoming cricket fixtures, this camp proves exceptionally valuable. It not only mitigates injury risks but also augments both individual skills and collective team performance.”

All-rounder Aamer Jamal:

“These sessions were instrumental in enhancing both our speed and endurance. Given the high altitude of this location, unique training methods were necessary to ensure sufficient oxygen flow to our muscles, and I believe this aspect was one of the most valuable takeaways from our time here in Kakul.

“Visiting this iconic facility was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The exceptional care and treatment we received added an extra layer of enjoyment and reward to this pre-season camp.”

Wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan:

“The rigorous training at higher altitudes has not only pushed us to our limits but has also markedly enhanced our overall fitness and strength. The picturesque location, steeped in history and achievements, served as a massive source of motivation for all of us, inspiring active participation in the drills and prompting us to make the most of this opportunity.

“My primary focus has been on enhancing my endurance, and the instructors have been incredibly supportive in this endeavor. While I understand that this is a gradual process, I feel well-prepared and equipped to assimilate all the learnings from this camp and continue working towards achieving the required standards.

“One of the most valuable aspects of this session has been the fostering of team bonding. We utilised this time to deepen our understanding of each other, drawing significant positive energy from these bonding exercises.”

All-rounder Imad Wasim:

“Personally, I benefited tremendously as I was already focused on my rehabilitation and strength. These sessions and drills were markedly different from cricket-related training, but we dedicated extra hours that I'm confident will benefit us all in match situations.

“The time in Kakul was also crucial from a team bonding perspective. I've sensed, and I'm sure other players have too, that it was valuable to be here, spend time together, and grow closer to each other. This closeness will undoubtedly play a significant role in our performances.”

Fast bowler Naseem Shah:

“After some time apart due to the HBL Pakistan Super League, it was truly gratifying to come together and recharge for the cricket challenges that lie ahead. Undoubtedly, there was a significant emphasis on physical fitness, as every athlete aspires to reach peak condition. In this regard, I believe we've successfully met our objectives, and I'll return as a fitter and more adept athlete.

“We wholeheartedly engaged in each drill, occasionally even competing against one another. This not only fostered camaraderie but also reinforced our unity and team spirit.”

All-rounder Shadab Khan:

“It has been a new experience training at these marvelous facilities under the watchful eyes of the Pakistan Army trainers. Undoubtedly, all the cricketers will return with improved fitness levels and standards that will significantly contribute when they take the field in the upcoming challenges. The fitter our players are during the season, the greater our chances of success will be.”

This camp for such a short period of time. Don't think it's particularly helpful in any thing other than stamina and endurance building. But these are professional players. You would expect them to build and maintain their fitness.

If they cannot carry on working on improving their fitness whole year and you'll be back to cakes and biryanis. Then what's the point?

Im hoping that Babars stubborness would increase multifold by getting re-instated as captain...

His resistance to changes and not listening to any recommendations cost his side , a poor show at the WC 2023

Will see what he does this time around.. Saim Ayub would come at no.3 I guess to start with lol..

Afghanistan beat them in the WC. Should have been banned from captaining for life after that.

I just hope we get to see Naseem and Shaheen in full health and full fitness for the upcoming WC. We finally got two solid pacers and they both got injured at around the same time.
