Politics - Pakistani 2018 General Election and post-election discussion

Which will be the top party after the upcoming general elections?

Yes, it would be a great assurance!

I hope IK use his power here this will send a clear message IK can't be black mailed by electables and this will be the first time we will have a female CM that too of our biggest province?

My only worry is if she will be able to handle a massive province like Punjab at this age? she is 67 and a lady (we all know the issues females have to face in our society)

I hope Asad Umar comes up with an attractive investment scheme with good returns for overseas Pakistanis... I would be willing to invest a major chunk of my life's saving in it. Pakistan needs money and lots of it.

Might be a worry, but I'm sure she will have plenty of people around her supporting her. She's a tough lady, and I'm sure she can do it.

We are going to get many women reserve seats in Punjab, KP, Sindh and Federal i was wondering what Fozia Kasuri must be thinking now? opportunity missed?

Happy for Dua Bhutto she will be able to get a seat in Sindh assembly she worked really hard on ground with Haleem Adil in interior sindh.

if she is good enough then that is all that matters. look at qaim ali shah in Sindh! :sharif

I don't know but she made PMLN sweat twice now in arguably their strongest constituency. The lady certainly seems capable. However, yes age might be an issue.

There are many pros of having Asad as FM but one negative is that he is completely against privatization! So elephants like PIA, Steel Mill, Railways etc are there to stay

Let's see if she can become front runner in this race of CMship!

why is it a mistake? If MQM joins now, that means PTI gets more reserve quota. After Mqm leaves will the reserve quota also leave?

Ind joining give your reserve seats quota a boost not another party coming into a coalition.

I was also thinking the same about Fozia Kasuri. She would have gotten a guaranteed reserved seat had she stook around.

She and many other left the train right before it reached the station. Well done to Amin Aslam i will say he stood with Khan even after not getting ticket although he is not just a nazryati but also an electable and founder of billion tree tsunami

I don't think this is that accurate, but TLP did help PTI win some seats.

We need a more scientific analysis with age breakdown and who TLP voters voted for previously to come to a better conclusion.

Guys look how Allah's help has arrived:

1. We have won the elections CONVINCINGLY.

2. We have won seats from the top to the bottom of the country.

3. We are the number 1 party in Karachi now.

4. We have a significant presence in Balochistan.

5. We are about to get LOTS of reserved seats which means we can start grooming the next generation of PTI leaders from all backgrounds.

6. We are about to form Punjab provincial gvt.

7. Full control over KP which means we can do even more.

8. We are about to form a string opposition in Sindh provincial assembly.

9. We will be able to get many of our bills passed in assembly.

10. Imran now has the power to bring change across the country.

Alhamdulillah.

How does the above make you feel?

Aleem Khan is way too controversial.

Tahir Sadiq is way too unreliable.

SMQ lost his seat.

We need a loyal , clean and a sensible individual for CM Punjab post.

CH Fawad! He is young, has got good links and has preformed well since joining PTI.

wow Habib Akram saying Dr Yasmeen Rashid is being considered for CMship of Punjab by IK himself and he thinks she is the face of change.

An excellent choice would be extremely happy if she gets it. I think she can do a lot of good stuff for Punjab.

Dr yasmin would kick butt

Najam Sethi is going to be removed apparently according to news.

He wrote an article criticising PTI today in his newspaper. He can see the writing on the wall.

Nothing decided yet. He may get away with it. I hope PTI reforms the PCB but they may leave it for later

Here is the article for those interested.

"The constitution may also be targeted for amendment. The 18th Amendment, for starters, has become irksome because it shaves the federal pool — which is required to pay for increasing defense expenditures and pensions— by devolving financial resources to the provinces. A need may also be felt to reduce the size and strength of Punjab in the scheme of things, especially since the development of a critical fissure in the historical pro-Miltablishment character of the province. Plans remain on the anvil to carve it up into three or more “units” that are politically more “manageable”."

Centralizing power and breaking up Punjab is part of the Bajwa doctrine but constitutional amendments would require support of either PMLN or PPP. Don't see them budging.

I'm not too familiar with the reserve seat system, how does it work? We don't have that here in the US. Who picks reserved seat candidates, the party the seats have been allocated too? Mian hussain.r97

For every 4 seats you win you get 1 reserve seat .... 4:1...

This is what i dont understand. Why would IK who is a proponent of devolution suddenly want to centralise? if he does he is finished as a politician. However if you proceed from the assumption that he is merely a pawn of the army then I guess you can believe that.

Add one more seat to the national assembly tally. Independent MNA from Mansehra joins the PTI.

Read through the thread it has been explained a few times or just google
Reserved seats Pakistan national assembly

There are a total of 342 seats in the National Assembly. Of these, 272 are filled by direct elections. In addition, the Pakistani Constitution reserves 10 seats for religious minorities and 60 seats for women, to be filled by proportional representation among parties with more than 5% of the vote.

I did read that from earlier on in the thread, I guess I should rephrase my question, why is this system in place? These officials are not elected into government like the others, do they have less power? Who picks the reserved seat candidates? The party or are they pre-picked? I see PTI has Dr. Yasim Rashid for first pick (for PPA), thus was confused.

Reserved seats are for women and minorities.

First time i listened to the dude KASHIF on ARY NEWS and i had to close my streaming after 10 minutes.

He is sooooo ill mannered, don't know how to speak with some one. Can't even give respect to his fellow hosts.

Shameless guy.

The reserved seats are for women and religious minorities as in a society like ours it will hard for them to get propotional representatives in government. This ensures that we have women and religious minorities participating in the goverment.

Man, I still have to pinch myself sometimes to believe that IK has actually WON and will form government. Then I get this warm feeling inside everytime I realize it has happened! :)

Completely agree with you.

I have been saying this about Kashif Abbassi for years. The most irritating journalist in Pakistan. He thinks he is better than he actually is.

And just look at Waseem Badami who always sucks up to him.

Pmln supporters still coming up with all sorts of weird calculations to get majority. :)))

Speaking of ARY, who is this lady from PML-N who has been yelling on ARY for the past hour :29:

I can't believe 100% of the vote count is still not in.

With the addition of the minority and women seats, we need to get 172 seats somehow and this is where MQM-P's role becomes crucial.
