Politics - Pakistani 2018 General Election and post-election discussion

Which will be the top party after the upcoming general elections?

  • Total voters
    94
92 seats is my estimate.
I'd like to think many more but have been stung from 2013, which was hugely dissapointing.

Guys let's all give a final PTI prediction. Give an exact number.

So far we have:

1. Me (PakWarrior) : 102 seats.

2. Hussain : 100 to 105 seats (Bro can you choose an exact figure? just to get one number, thanks).

3. Awam_from_soon: 107 seats.

Mian Bro and all other Brothers in this thread awaiting your final numbers.

128

We know that MNA/MPA campaign normally would mean spending at least 25/15 million rupees for vote-buying.
This time around, PTI candidates say the voters/clans aren't even demanding money for support and voting.
Obviously there was a lot of cash flow for getting PTI Tickets but swing voters aren't asking for cash.
This I say after talking to the candidates thenselve. Still I think they shouldn't get complacent.

Sorry to say those predicting 100+ seats are being too optimistic just like in 2013.

I'm going to allow predictions to keep coming for the next 3 or so hours and then that will be done. I'll do an average and we can also see how far off or close or exact we were, both as an average and individually, once we know the final result which is probably going to come by early morning on the 26th.

We can then just focus on the last 5 or 6 days before election and build up to election day inshallah.

We will know who will form government by 3 or 4 am Pakistan time I think on the 26th . By that time around 70% of the results will be in.

As Pakistan heads to the polls, most of the parties are making campaign pledges to improve access to education for girls.

One of the major players, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, has said that it would ensure equal access for women to education as well as health and employment.

Earlier this year, Nobel Prize winner and champion of female education Malala Yousafzai went back to her home town after years away from the country.

Malala was shot in the head in 2012 by the Pakistani Taliban, who had begun a violent campaign to force the closure of hundreds of schools.

Her charitable organisation, the Malala Fund, has built schools to help hundreds of young girls access education so that "every girl can learn and lead".

But are there as many girls as boys now entering the education system in Pakistan?

Overall, there are still proportionally more boys than girls going to school - but there are signs of improvement for girls in some areas of Pakistan.

Based on government data for 2017, that gap between the numbers of boys and girls in education is about 10% - this is from the 5th Grade (nine years old) up to the 12th Grade (17 years old).

These figures have barely changed since the last elections in 2013.

It's also important to note that a significant proportion of students in government public schools - both boys and girls - drop out of school at primary level.

"One of the major factors contributing to the drop in post-primary enrolment is the [lack of] availability of schools at secondary level or above," says Aleena Khan, from Alif Ailaan, a non-profit organisation working on education in Pakistan.

"Almost 80% of [government] schools in Pakistan are primary schools."

She adds that where girls are out of school, the problem is typically not the attitude of the parents towards educating girls, but the lack of enough schools for girls.

The gap in the market is to some extent filled by private schools, which cater to all levels of education, but this sector is still smaller than the government sector.

However, even in private schools there is a gender gap - with a larger proportion of boys than girls enrolling.

And this has not changed much in recent years.

It takes a lot of courage to stand in front of a mob and speak your truth that is guided by your core principles.

I just went through Jibran Nasir manifesto and it looks similar to PTI in some ways. Jibran Nasir carries the same opinion regarding Madrassahs that IK does, also he has the same plans to regularize Madrassahs in his manifesto as KP govt did while he criticized KP for taking steps in the said direction & rather agreed to refer it "mainstreaming Taliban"

Jibran Nasir shared this article about the criticism on PTI's plan to deal with the water crisis in Karachi, But why he didn't share first that he agreed with PTI's plan & that his own manifesto has the same plan to counter the clean drinking water crisis via desalination?

Wow this is incredible!

So according to this poll PTI will be in a position to form government first.

Again it's a poll and we can't read too much into it but it's encouraging.

Also when they do the exit poll at 6pm I would not read too much into it as exit polls can be inaccurate.

But I'm more interested in this July 16 -18 survey which is significant and encouraging for PTI.

PMLN made govt based on 33% in 2013 and PPP made govt based on 31% votes in 2008 so a little shift of swing voters and PTI will be in a very strong position.

I am guessing 100 seats for PTI.

So in the end Jibran is becoming a typical Pakistani politicians after realizing the ground realities.

You need to distinguish between ‘I support’ and ‘I propose’. In supporting something you are basically giving credit to someone else’s idea. In proposing, you basically put forward an original idea that is both informed from someone else’s idea and yet tweaked according to different variables. So you can learn from someone without losing the right to criticise them. So in the end, Jibran is not becoming a typical Pakistani politician.

What about the mainstreaming of Madrassahs? PTI tried same in KP and was on receiving end from Jibran and co for years and they simply wanted to shutdown Madrassahs.

wow i picked 98 seats for PTI earlier in this thread and a few hours later Roshan pakistan did same :yk

Can you provide a reference of him demanding the closure of madrasahs that are in sink with the state narrative of tolerance and respect for everyone.

I don't remember his exact but him and many other liberals have been bashing IK for this concept of mainstreaming madrassahs and when PTI govt funded biggest madrassah of KP for this purpose they were attacked from everywhere.

I don’t disagree with IK on this issue, but I’m gonna need the exact criticism of Jibran Nasir on this policy of IK. Otherwise your statements are just gross generalisation with regards to a very specific issue.

Jibran is doing an excellent job and has shown a lot of steel in this election campaign so far.

He has actually looked head and shoulders above many of our so-called seasoned politicians.

Respect him for sticking to his guns! Go Jibran!

Also - I predict 83 seats for PTI.

Right guys I think it's time to close the predictions as we have had a good response.

So the number of seats that PTI will win from predictions given by 20 posters is :

98

Wow this is the exact same number that Roshan Pakistan has given!!

Swing voters and higher turnout cane take us to a very good position.

According to surveys, 70% from age group 18-25 intend to vote for PTI.

35% who voted for PMLn in 2013, intend to vote for PTI and 13% who voted for PTI in 2013 now intend to vote for PMLn.

Raising a voice against religious extremism (one of the most, if not the most serious issue in Pakistan) is rhona dhona?

More than raising voice, he keeps crying oh they are stopping my press conference, oh they are making comments on my social media pages, oh they are asking planted questions. That is the entirety of his politics, just rona dhona.

The other day he parked his car infront of a judges protocol and the police obviously moved his car and put him in a wagon to take to police station, he was doing rona dhona that they are harassing me.

This is first time i will be voting. I will be voting for PTI :)

I predict PTI to win 90 seats. I hope i am wrong.

His politics is a lot more than this - be fair and give him a chance. He is a real breath of fresh air for Karachi politics in particular.

I do think he is not entirely unjustified in his concerns - a number of parties have had campaigns targeted by the powers that be.

Politics of principles is an alien concept. It will take time for people to get used to it.

I respect Jibran for raising his voice against these extremists. Every Pakistani politician should be following his example in this respect.

The likes of Ismat Shah Jehan, Ammar Rashid, Jibran Nasir give us hope that a peaceful and tolerant Pakistan is possible.

I also think that under current circumstances, it is our responsibility to reject the politics of mudslinging and that this charity should begin from our own homes.

Update

Polling station & Constituency details (NA and PA) have now been updated by ECP so please start sending your CNIC numbers at 8300 if you are in Pakistan and get the details.

Zartaj is great, probably running one of the best campaigns in the country too. People like her need to be given more opportunities while in government too, she is a very dedicated and genuine worker.

wow i picked 98 seats for PTI earlier in this thread and a few hours later Roshan pakistan did same :yk

PTI is at its highest number of projected seats in our July 16-18 poll of our 8 nationwide polls this year. Treat these numbers with caution, they are based on a divisional uniform swing analysis. The method is accurate in most areas but less so where electables hold sway. pic.twitter.com/Lmu1NaNxoY
— Roshan Pakistan Opinion Polling (@RoshanOpinion) July 18, 2018

Even Roshan is predicting almost 100,and there is still one more week to go! Also worth noting that they used the uniform swing method for seat projections, which may not work so well in Pakistan due to the electables factor.

It’s good to know why people are voting for Jibran Nasir (ps: not for a plate of biryani).

Don't know much about Jibran Nasir but man his supporters are so irritating. Their horse is 50 feet high

I think he's not in contention for the NA seat (according to Roshan's survey), but I really hope he wins the PS seat. He will be a much better addition to the Sindh assembly than Imran Ismail.

He’s contesting from NA-247. Its indicative of the reliability of these surveys.

Some shameless display of bigotry in the run up to the elections.

Media and social media is a really powerful weapon the way people try to spin the narratives by using out of context clips and pics. This clip is actually against PTI and their candidate from PP-1 who is a shia and ex MPA of PTI from here was a shai too these maulvis are calling him agent of MWM (Majlis Wahadat ul Muslimeen) and bashing PTI for giving ticket to a shia and chanting Istri eye Istri eye not PTI PTI (Istri is the symbol of their Ind candidate from here). Here is the full clip please watch and realize how we are being brainwashed. Their is a new narrative being built against PTI that it's pro Iran because of many shia leaders in top leadership.

I know he's contending, but I mean he's not in contention to win the seat. Arif Alvi is far ahead followed by Farooq Sattar at a distant 2nd place.

He was never a favourite to begin with. He said it himself. Even if it takes him 30-40 years to change our political culture, he’ll do it. He’s in for the long haul.
