PTI announces two day sit-in in Peshawar on 23rd and 24th April Against Nato Supplies

ISLAMABAD (April 6, 2011)

The Chairman PTI Imran Khan has said the PTI will arrange a sit-in in Peshawar on two days on April 23rd and 24th 2011 against the NATO supplies to Afghanistan.

Addressing a high level delegation of PTI KPK led by Provisional President Asad Qaiser here on Wednesday he has invited all the opposition parties who agree with the PTI’s following five-point agenda to join hands with his party in this sit-in. these five points are, safeguard of nation's security, immediate stoppage of drone attacks, release of Dr Aafia, riddance from America and protest over the unjust release of Raymond Davis.

Imran khan asked the nation to fight off oppression rather than tolerating it. He said the present rulers have invested heavily in the west and that is the reason they cannot annoy the western powers. He accused both the federal and the Punjab government of collusion in the release of Raymond Davis.

The PTI chairman said a big number of people from, Khyber Pukthoonkwa will participate in the PTI’s sit-in on 23rd and 24rth April.

PESHAWAR, April 21: Lawyers` groups belonging to different political parties announced on Thursday that they would also join the sit-in prtotest announced by Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf on April 23 and 24 against drone attacks and supplies for Nato forces in Afghanistan via Pakistan.

Speaking at a joint press conference along with PTI Lawyers` Forum president Saifullah Khan Khattak at Peshawar Press Club, the lawyers strongly criticised the government for its failure to stop drone attacks and asked the rulers to step down.Mr Khattak was also flanked by Islamic Lawyers Movement president Ghulam Nabi, PML-N Lawyers Forum president S. M. Sabir, PPP-S Lawyers Forum president Bilal Khan Durrani and scores of other lawyers.

The PTI leader said that the ruling political parties were helpless to take a firm stand for bringing an end to the US hegemony. He said that people could not tolerate any more US interference in the country.

He said that the PTI had initiated a movement to inform the people about the anti-state forces working in Pakistan.

He said that the situation was going from bad to worse due to supply of arms, ammunition and goods to the US-led Nato troops in Afghanistan via Pakistan.

Mr Khattak said that innocent tribal people had been killed in the US drone attacks and even peaceful jirgas (council meetings) and funerals were not safe from the American aggression. He said that the government had failed to protect life and property of people.

Mr Ghulam Nabi welcomed the PTI initiative and said that all political parties should join hands to put the increasing US influence in Pakistan to an end. He said that drone attacks were carried out from the Pakistani soil with the consent of ruling coalition government and security agencies.

He claimed that there were 700 CIA operatives busy in spying activities and demanded an immediate to the agency`s secret mission in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: The disgruntled MNA of ANP and former federal minister, Khwaja Khan Muhammad Hoti, Thursday announced to participate in the sit-in of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf against continuing US drone attacks.

“I support the call of Imran Khan for the sit-in against the US drone attacks and to stop Nato supply line,” he said while addressing a press conference here. Criticising chief of ANP Asfandyar Wali Khan, Hoti said those who claimed to be the champion of Pakhtunkhwa cause preferred to visit India while leaving the Pakhtuns behind to face the drone strikes. “Asfandyar and Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti are only interested in corruption,” he said.

Khwaja said the lands of poor framers of Mardan were being purchased cheaply and sold to the government expensively. “We have submitted a writ petition against chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and we will present all the evidence of corruption in the court,” he added.

He said all the Pakhtuns were united against the drone attacks, adding the interior minister was claiming that the government had no solution to stop the drone attacks while the air chief was on record saying that if government gave permission the drones could be targeted. “We condemn the double standards of the government,” Hoti said.
