What's new

South Africa (270/2) crush Pakistan (269/9) by 8 wickets to level the 3-match ODI series at 1-1

Back then chasing 250 is like chasing 320 these days , every team has a good bowling unit who can swing the new ball both ways...

To chase against the bowling unit Pak had and under lights which was very new that time was a hugh task like chasing 350 today in Aus...
Agreed. 280+/- was considered a really good score back then.

England lost wickets at regular intervals. However, England were still favourites to win when Lamb and Fairbrother were batting together.

Those two quick wickets by Wasim then swung the momentum in Pakistan’s favour.

I know it's early days and might not be the most pertinent comment right now considering he's batting at a SR of 50.

But I think ODI may be Saim Ayub's best format. He has good potential as an ODI batsman and adds something with the ball too.
Easily. His tons in South Africa and knocks in Australia show that.

I was just watching the Pak vs Aus 2003 ODI series - what a difference in quality of cricket. This is like watching kids play

22/3 Pak on the ropes. Burger on song.

South Africa seem really pumped up today

Pakistan will do well to make 200!

Babar looked very shaky. For SR obsessed posters, Babar batted with a SR of 84.6!

However, SR means nothing if your score is < 50
Yeah its all the fault of "SR obsessed posters" that Babar hasn't been able to score since years.

Pak innings gaining momentum!

Good job by these two considering the precarious situation Pak were in

95/3 after 22 overs

Agha looks so awkward running in pads.

It's like watching a person who has never played in gear run.

That shot over covers by Salman has eased his nerves a bit... looking in better shape now

What's with this Saffer commentator mispronouncing all these names? Shaim Ayub and Saeen Saa Afridi

Saim in ODI is a completely different batter to what he was in T20s... Nice stuff

This lad is sheer quality. I was not even this impressed by Bobs when he came through.

He just gets ODI batting.

Babar has lost his spark for sure. Seems very nervy and shaky initially. Getting LBW most of the time these days which means his feet are not moving well. Today was an exception.

Ayub is good but he's nowhere close to prime bobby when he burst on the scene.
Babar was very good when he burst onto the scene but he never had this kind of a range and ability to shift gears. He was an 84-85 SR batter at the start and then later a 90 SR batter. Saim is a 95-100 SR batter. He possesses the ability to keep the scoreboard ticking and take bowlers on.

I would love to be proved wrong, but Talat has to the most undeserving player to put on a green shirt for some time and that is saying much!

Soft dismissal lack of concentration...they are only playing 2 pacers so use common sense..unfortunately no spin what so ever so even 250 wnt be enough in my opinion

Saim be like batting bhi main karu bowling bhi main karun aur agar kabhi jaldi out hogawun tou sab mujhe ko troll kartain hain.

Our runnings been poor. Not looking to put pressure on fielders. Missing what could be 2 runs

Superior player of spin as well.

Agreed. Looks to be completely devoid of confidence.

That is what I have always said about Babar - He's got the skillset of a champion player but the mindset of an ordinary one.

Big players go through slumps but they always look confident and back themselves. Babar looks like he doesn't believe in himself. In tough situations, he looks like he's already lost the battle.

I don't think we will see Babar reach the heights people expected him to when he began his career.

Guys I got to know something yesterday that many wont beleive.
Adil rashid has more fc runs than the fraud king.

Mid off is up, and they are getting served juicy overpitched deliveries... yet hitting them straight to the fielder without any timing. So frustrating to watch.

How long we persist with Babar. The guy is finished. Salman needs to go as well. Good for nothing timid individual player.

@AZulfi likes to deliver Kulfi verdicts.

Babar's sr of 84 was because he kept getting the bat in place before the ball inevitebly crashing into his pads. Its not because he was looking intent on scoring.

Expected. NZ played Philips, Bracewell and Santner from 6-8 in the CT earlier. That's how they have gotten so good in ODIs. That depth has served them well
I was expecting India and Australia to have better numbers. Their numbers are not far off from Pak

And the worst player to put on a green shirt in a long time gone...please no more!

Feels like the 2023 world cup again whenever Pakistan batted first.
