What's new

South Africa (315/6) defeat Afghanistan (208) comprehensively by 107 runs to start their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign on a high

South Africa get 85/3 in the last 10 overs to finish with 315/6. Can Afghanistan chase this down?

STAT:19 overs of wrist-spin today. The only other instance of more than 10 overs of wrist-spin in an innings in the Champions Trophy came in the very first game of the competition’s history back in 1998 in Dhaka: Paul Strang and Murray Goodwin (Zimbabwe) bowled 14 overs between them against New Zealand.

ibrahim zadran playing after a long time..if afghansistan get a big opening partnership then can get the total

Wouldn't it make sense to put Sediqullah as opener with Gurbaz?

Feels like as a long term plan that should be the case and Ibrahim can take no. 3 spot and become that stable pillar for them. Since Hashmatullah and Rahmat Shah won't be around for long. Particularly as game evolves and strike rate need becomes more important.

Agreed

I am gonna predict this chase

Ibrahim, Sediq,Rahmat,Hashmat will take the RRR to 9+ and then there will be collapse just like what Pakistan did with target of 321

Pitch is probably easier to bat 2nd innings but the higher release points and superior accuracy of Saffer bowlers is making scoring tough.

Crap batting by Afghanistan , both batters are playing with 45 strike rate chasing over 315 . :kp

SA looking set for a massive win.

Afg did not bring their A game today. Rabada and Jansen are looking in great rhythm. Afg can fold for 175 here.

Afg needs to attack now. Rabada and Jansen are off. Can't fall too much behind the RRR.

Edit - Rabada still bowling. Thought he would take a break.

Good over for us. We need to keep up with the required rate.
