South Africa (315/6) defeat Afghanistan (208) comprehensively by 107 runs to start their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign on a high

Its important for Afghanistan to not go into a shell just like Pakistan did. They need to be proactive and at this stage look to score over 5 runs an over. Keeping wickets in hand is the key since they have the likes of Omarzai, Gulbadin, Nabi and Rashid to finish off the innings
 
Afghanistan batting is very one-dimensional. If Gurbaz fires and Zadran stays with him they will end up with 280. If not, Rahmat, Shahidi will suck the momentum out of the innings because they don't have the capability to bat above a SR of 70 or rotate the strike.

To be fair that was a scarring defeat for them lol. They celebrated a bilateral win against them prior to the tournament as if they've won the WC but ended up getting knocked out by Afghans when it mattered the most. :ROFLMAO:

Brother irfan Pathan didn't really help the cause wither.

Champions Trophy is basically a 6 team event without SL and WI . One cant trust Afghans and Bangladeshis to display elite stuff consistently.

Nah not WI. Both BD and Afg are comfortably better than those jobbers WI would probably send for an ODI tournament.

But SL are huge miss though.

O'Rourke , Henry etc wouldn't have? NZ would have brought in Jamieson too and that would have been curtains for the Pakistani batting order.

There is no wicket in this world that would favour pakistan over NZ who are covered in all departments.

In short Pakistan has no stronger suit , no home advantage.
 
The funny thing is that had Afghanistan won the toss they could have won today. Had they posted even 270, South Africa would have chased it like it was 370.
 
The key to OD format now , is to make sure one gets the first 4 batsmen to bat 35 overs , and then take advantage latter.
 
85 % of deliveries i.e around 105 deliveries have either been good or hard length

Exceptional seam bowling.

Flat pitches don't suit Afghanistan. They need spicy pitches to dominate.

Their batting is mostly a one man show (Gurbaz).
 
Can Rashid and Nabi score big? I have both in my fantasy team (Rashid being the captain).

So bat first and win- that's the mantra. The tournament will come alive when a team knocks a successful run-chase.

The addition of Rabada and Jansen has made their bowling attack very strong. Not like the joke one we saw in the Tri series in Pakistan a week ago.

SA are loaded with pace demons. For some reason they all never play together. Ngidi should not play ahead of Burger, Coetzee and Nortje if they are fit.
