What's new

South Africa close 35/1 at stumps after bowling India out for 202 on Day 1 at the Wanderers

Pujara is sort of done at this stage and he couldn’t cope with the bounce, but in terms of Rahane that was just a truly awful shot.

Rahane and Pujara are just embarrassing themselves with each innings they play.

Pujara only looks good because Rahane is abysmal.

Kl and Rohit saved the non-existent middle order of India in England. and kl doing it again here. Pujara and Rahane should retire right after this series if they have any shame left.

Wow, even Gavaskar is saying that Rahane and Pujara have just one innings left to save their career! Ache din aayenge

Two of the easiest wicket in international cricket. Rahane/Pujara. You don't have to bowl great balls.

Good opportunity for Vihari here.

Gavaskar says our dynamic duo have only the 2nd innings to save their test careers.

How india owe it to there bowlers as batting has been consistently pathetic barring few.

Just goes on to show how good indian bowling attack has been.

Oliver did a favor to India by getting Rahane on zero. Let's see if Vihari can score some runs.

Duanne Olivier is the second-quickest to 50 Test wickets in terms of balls after Vernon Philander (1240 balls) since the 1900.

Should have given Indian bowlers to stomp their authority by putting South Africa into bat... By batting like this we are giving confidence to South Africa to get back in the series...

Shreyas Iyer is one. And Vihari needs a good run too.

Gill too. Though he plays as an opener but nothing wrong if he or Rahul plays in middle order when they all are fit to play.

I have doubts on Pujara and Rahane's international careers.

So much rather Iyer/Vihari over them.

I even doubt about Kohli. He lost LOI captaincy already. He may even lose his spot in the team too if he continues to fail like this. He is being saved only because of our heroics in Test Format of late! If this dream run of Indian test team gets over somehow, I think he will have to face the axe immediately!

Are we seeing fast food versions of cricketers these days? (With huge purple patches for some time but lesser longevity?)

Good stuff from Saffers, guess jo burg test will be the last for Che pu and Jinks.
Hope KL , vihari and co ride out the storm and score big.
Did Hanuma Vihari play in the ind - eng series in india? or is this his 1st test after injury in the Sydney test EXACTLY a year back?
What a test that was ...:salute

Who will be dropped from 3rd test - Rahane or pujara? I want both of them .play Vihari at 3 , Virat at 4 and Iyer at 5 .

How bad is Covid in SA? Looks like a ghost town.

This may happen if Rahane and Pujara fail to score in second inning too but India goes on to win 2nd test anyhow.

Another boundary for KL.

This outfield is like lightning.

South Africa has really quick outfield and relatively shorter boundaries compared to Australia, though the pitches help seem movement a lot compared to Australia, you can score a lot of runs off bad balls, so you should not miss out on those... Also not much running required and you can concentrate fully on the batting...

Classy shot by Vihari.

Big opportunity for him here. Time to show why he has that 55 FC average and is a longtime captain of India A.

30/3 at first drinks break, 85/5 at lunch-who ever bats

Am happily proven wrong. But not by much.
HV and KL need to keep going.
Must say Olivier is a slippery customer, has a good cross seam wobbly delivery, a well disguised bouncer. and from memory in the pak series he got it to reverse in the second innings as well.
a Ryan Harris type bowler, we will have to play well to get a decent total here

Indian batting is actually not that bad! They seem to somehow manage to complement the bowlers of late and do the job what's just needed (except the 36 A/O)

This is a very important innings for Pant... Time to trust his defense and aim to score 100... He is capable of it, but not applying it. Rahul needs to keep talking to him...

High hopes from Rishabh Afridi

No wonder he doesn't have a career with Indian test team as yet.

So Pant will score some 15-20, Ashwin 8-10, and Thakur some quick 12-16.
I guess 165-170 all out.

Where is @BhagViruBhag ? Missing him on this thread for something spicy

KL Rahul might again be the difference between the two sides! If Indian bowlers again perform to their levels, we can see a low scoring game again (much less than previous game!) Thank God we got him back, otherwise our batting would have looked totally awful!

Bowlers are getting extra bounce .

SAF pitches and i guess Brisbane-Gabba, WACA - Perth and barbados generally quicken on the 2nd day till about first session on day three then become easy for batting.
all the more reason, if Rishabh can somehow hit them off their lengths and KL scores big, this will work in our favor.
but long road ahead

Pant should just get through the initial overs and keep tightening his defense and control the instincts! He can really punish the loose balls...

The speed guns have to be incorrect.

No way all these bowlers are bowling at 131-133 kph.

South Africa is a place where you get full value of your shots .

KL Rahul may improve more under Dravid in Tests. Interesting to see what happens to his LOI form...

200+ on this track would be a good score. SA have bowled well in patches but also to many boundary balls by some of there bowlers.
