What's new

South Africa reach 51/2 in chase of 277-run target at stumps on Day 3 of the first Test against Pakistan

The guys who scored runs in the first innings failed in the second innings. The ones who failed in the first innings are scoring runs in the second innings

He has a glaring technical issue with the ball coming in. Gets stuck at the crease and completely misses the line of the ball.

This has been there since 2023, surprised he has not improved on it one bit.

People say Babar can't play spin Babar can't play spin. It's actually a myth.

Babar has always played spin like he has an averages around 50 against them.

It's actually the pace that is troubling Babar for a few years. That's the reason of his downfall. His technique is not as solid and he sometimes gets late on the ball. Age factor maybe.

Nice innings from Bobsy the King.

Correctly narrowed his stance in this innings. As a batsman you can then move forward or rock back with ease according to length of the ball.

Earlier against spin he was playing with a very wide stance and was committing on to the front foot too early only to get stuck and play around his pad.

Disappointed with the way he got out though. Head fell over which usually doesn't happen with him against pacers.

So sajidvand nouman are due for some runs

They seem to have collectively lost the ability to score some runs. This was the difference against WI where they'd be 70/7 but end up scoring 180+ while Pak would be 130/6 and ending up at 155 all out (or something like that)

Babar was a bit lucky earlier today when he only faced 1 ball of Rabada, took a single and ran off at the other end with Shafique taking up strike before tea

The moment he comes back for his second spell after about 20 overs, Babar once again double minded and unsure against him.

Ok, the fact Rabada has bowled well against all of the batsmen and cuaused false shots from them is nothing to do with it.

Now this clown’s PR will run wild on social media to get him back into the T20 side
That would only happen if he scored a century or a match winning knock.

He hasn't done anything special in this match. 1st innings he got outscored by everyone excluding the tail, Saud and Abdullah.

This innings he's made 42 runs, but he should have gotten 50-80 atleast. This pitch is tricky but it's not impossible either.

That’s how we look at it bro. We don’t view Pakistan cricket the way these freshies do. They watch it like Basit Ali and Tanvir Ahmed.

Tbf SA bat deep. I'd be more comfortable if Pakistan manage to bat the entire day and post a target of 300-350 and let sa bat on day 4-5

I'm stating that the PR campaign isn't strong enough in general.

What are they going to argue? Babar deserves a comeback after rescuing Pakistan with a dazzling score of 21 and 42?

I’ve got 0 hopes from guys like Stubbs, Brevis and Verreyne on this deck.

Mulder is always a poor shot away from throwing his wicket away too.

Zorzi should have been out 3-4 times early on in his innnings as well.

You never know with Sauce to bat through and play a champion knock but he hasn’t got the lieutenant Bavuma to stand with him.

Bro they already recon he’s better than Harris, Agha and Talat

Now he has a 40 to make you think he should get a 70 off 40 in Sri Lanka in T20s

233 on day 3-day 4 is easily chasable in recent times on any deck.

Test cricket has been evolving as well. This year alone we saw SA chase a record total in wtc at the Oval, then England chasing a 100+ runs extra against India and doing ot easily.

As well as India getting bowled for 45 by pacers on a spin deck by NZ.

Things are changing and even on this deck their are zero guarantees.

233 is not a solid target for day 3 or day 4, its only a good total for session 2-3 day 4 and day 5.

It's better to bat today and 1st session tmr bare minimum.

Are you serious south africa are not getting over 150 here with noman and sajid who will even think of chasing 250 plus vs them seriously
South Africa batted well in patches, and the bounce has become much more consistent now on day 3 surprisingly.

Yes they might struggle to chase 250, but just to have some cushion of runs and demoralize the opposition before they come on to bat, better to target 300-350.

The only postive SA will have is time factor, they can score 2 run per over and win the match, the Test is moving along pretty fast. I do expect Pakistan spinners to test their techniques and ability to bat for long time.

How times and priorities have changed in Pakistan cricket

Back in the days, you used to work hard in white ball cricket to try and get a call up to the Test side….

Now you have to play well in Test to earn a T20 call up!

In t20 cricket he is better then Talat. Issue is Haris has done better then Bobby at no 3.

And farhan + Fakhar are better openers atm. And babar isnt willing to slot down to 4-7 which Agha is willing to do.

In test cricket he'd have to score a match winning knock to prove why his test form and technique would easily transition into t20 and make way for hackish and techincally unsuited batsmen in the longer format like Haris.

But he has not done that and Agha is replacement in captaincy has proven that on current form, His technique and form are > Babar in test.

Meaning theirs no guarantee that Babar can outperform Agha in t20 if babar was to slot down to no 4(which he never will)

So I don't see any PR angle these guys can logically create other then the Saim ayub angle that babar is needed to replace Saim. That is one angle that could work.

I still want Pakistan to bat till day 4 session 1. It'll be difficult. I don't trust Rizwan, Saud, Agha, Sajid and Noman to logically bat that long.

But if they can, SA are cooked left right and center.

If you want to run agendas for players who should be in the T20i side to tackle spin in the middle,

You should be running it for Saud Shaqeel.

That doesnt even make sense 🤣🤣. Since you have to be a T20 batsmen to play test as test will improve your technique for t20.

But test specialists find it harder to transition into odi and t20 since their not use to the different ball, PP rules and the timelimit of overs.

I've heard of t20 specialists becoming goats in test cricket like Warner, I've never heard of the opposite, Test specialists becoming good batters in t20.

Root, Steve Smith, Williamson are all terrible batters at international t20. Steve Smith os only good in BBL provided he plays on his 2 favourite grounds, Melbourne and Sydney. Otherwise hes crap in BBL at any other venue.
