Aus won it but frankly they deserved it big time. SA was in this game only due to rain taking 36 overs.

Congrats to Aus. And Harris is a gun bowler. Hope he can play for 2-3 years.

Australia deserved that victory. Thoroughly outplayed SA but a valiant effort from SA none the less

Warner has been a revelation - I thought he was just some T20 banger, not a proper test opener.
 
Jo_Don - You came very close that running naked bet ;) It was a matter of just another 26 balls.
 
What a series this was. Only wish we had more cricket like this to see. Well played Australia.
 
well done Ozzies. Well done Saffers too for some good fighting. Epic series. Shame I had work so missed most of it. But caught some of the end.
 
What an epic battle, people talk about the gladiatorial nature of sport and this series was that two proud teams punching till one finally fell.

So glad it was us left standing but i feel for SA we deserved to win this test but at the same time not sure they deserved to lose after a fight like that.

Great to see the after match stuff as well, i think there is a different level of respect between these two than there was in the ashes.

p.s. if anybody ever tries to have a 2 test series between these two again they should be sacked on the spot.

I think harris was my man of the match just above warner, 7 vital wickets with no knee left on a dead track.
 
Amazing stuff what an epic rearguard from SA. A quality side but Australia were too good. Rhino Harris is one of the greatest fast bowlers i have ever seen. I dont care about stats or longevity he is right up there with the greats!
 
Well done to the Aussies, deserved winners after our meek performance. Also means that I don't have to run naked through Hillbrow :D
 
First innings was below par for sure but christ your blokes can fight it out when they get backed into a corner.

If we do want to get to number 1 we need to start understanding that saved games can play just as big a role as crushing wins.

Shouldn't have to fight so often. We've been sucking at the 1st innings for a while now, the comebacks just tapered over the cracks so I feel that this was needed.

Proud of Philander though, he's really starting to come through as an all rounder.

If we do get any more from him it will be a nice bonus.

if somebody had told us a year ago that harris would play the last 11 tests in a row(56 wickets@21) and help us win back the ashes and beat SA in SA we would have thought it had to be bull.

Spot on here. Too often SA is doing these fighting comebacks. Need to play better to not get into those situations. As much as I appreciate FaF kind of knocks but if you have to do it so many times then something is wrong.
 
Harris would be a real threat for us in UAE. He has become a great all-round bowler now. Bowling while hiding the ball is not easy and seems like he is mastering this art too. Shame he is old and injury prone otherwise we would have seen another great fast bowler for years.

He literally has no cartilage left in his knees. It's just bone on bone whenever he bowls.
 
Kudos to Saffers. Showed why they are number 1 team. They don't surrender easily, surely an attribute of a top team. Said that, they are on a downward trajectory now. They are still a top team but they are not improving anymore. They need a good opener and a good number 3 if Amla is batting at number 4. I think Amla should stay at number 3 and ABDV should move at number 4. Also, about time ADBV give up the gloves now and concentrate on captaincy and batting.

With Smith out, Amla should move back to #3 now. I think they're just adjusting to life without Kallis, but I think they've found a balance to look forward to. Don't play a rubbish specialist spinner when the two part timers perform better - means that we can play an extra paceman and still bat down to 8.

agreed about playing a fast bowler in place of a specialist spinner. What do you think of ADBV keeping? Now since he would be made test captain as well, I think he should give up the keeping and bat at number 4. Too much weight on his shoulders might pull him down.
