South Africa vs Pakistan | 3rd ODI | Centurion | Jan 25, 2019 | Pakistan Innings Thread

Exactly Imam is grinding it out and total credit to him even when he knows he is struggling.

Welcome you are a good addition to PP.

Pakistani fans are so impatient. Games are played according to the situation.

Its a batting pitch. Playing at a strike rate of 50 odd doesn't help at all. Anything less than 300 on the pitch will be easy to chase. You cannot just stand there and do absolutely nothing.

His strike rotation is quite okay though so far, he will catch up, have some patience, Jesus!! kid just won you a match in this series.

Its lack of release shots which means fielders come in to stop the singles. He needs to develop some release shots.

For an opener so far he has done much better compared to the previous options in the past for example Azhar, hafeez and shehzad.. we know that he is not the sharjeel or Fakhar type opener... he is an option like Rohit Sharma, Hashim Amla kind of type who can bat till the end, but yes need to improve his striking rate

Even if its a batting pitch, you still need wickets in the last 10 overs to have a chance to score 300.

I disagree man. He shouldn't be wasting balls. Look what Amla did in the 1st game, he totally lost them the match by playing selfishly.

Almost half of the overs are done and only 1 wicket lost. Imam has to take more than a few risks here.

Good boundary just as I say this

Please don't mention Rohit Sharma and Imam in the same sentence

Michael holding says it's dangerous Pak losing only 1 wicket lol he's unaware of our collapse history:afridi

How does it matter if he won us one game? Shouldn't matter at all. He's an opening batsman playing on a peach of a pitch who has been out there for over an hour and a half played some 50 odd balls and is still struggling to middle it.

I have nothing against him. Just think he should contribute. There's no room for passengers

Coming down the track seems to be Imams only release shot so far needs to develop a few more. Otherwise bowlers will figure it out.

He's playing like Amla did in the first match and we all know how that ended up. I don't want us to score 250/2. I'd rather be 300 all out.

A lot of things need to go right for this innings by imam to be relevant.
1. He needs to bat till then end
2. The guys batting with him need to keep striking at 90 and beyond throughout

The only thing Imam has been useful for today is running on the track!

Guys criticizing Imam should realize that partnerships are important.

Last 10 overs they are going at about 5.60 per over.

That's good going.

And Imam is picking up his s/r.

Correction: last 5-6 overs.

You are right but to me a wicket of a batsman which are not many in this team is more important than a couple of boundaries which can be hit any time once you are set.

If we even score around 150/2 in 30 overs there is more chance of scoring around 270-300 than being 150/4 in 26 overs.

Im telling you Pulawayo is out of sorts, pakistan should punish him for 8-10 runs an over!

Amla was fine throughout but his mistake was he didnt attacked enough in the last 10 overs. We are far from last 10 overs in this innings

Partnerships are important but so is scoring at a decent run rate.

According to Superpsort, full length is the "in the slot" in ODI's :))

This is a problem for Malik. By the time he comes to bat, Shamsi might be done with his overs. Nevermind that he is rubbish against spin as well, now.

The last 10 over mentality is so 1990's. Things have changed. No team leaves it for the last 10 overs and teams have specialist bowlers for the last 10 overs now. It's very rare that teams charge in the final 10 overs and score 120-130 runs nowadays. It's about scoring at a decent rate throughout the innings and try to get 80 odd in the final 10 to finish with a good score

Yes, but for current Pak team and these two youngsters partnerships are more important as we never had good enough players in recent times to even develop partnerships.

Rohit has some terrific low risk release shots. First he is good against short balls and gets a lot of boundaries with pull or hook but also has that whip through mid wicket.

It's a decent base to get a winning score considering they gifted an early wicket. Should get to 300-ish from here if the middle order do their job.

I know the game has changed. But you still need wickets in last 10 overs to score, expecting Amir and Shaheen to score boundaries at the end will be wrong.

We dont have experienced top 3 like India and England atm so don’t expect them to not loose wickets and score quickly at the same time. Though we have to bowling to defend 270 plus more often than not

Rohit is now 32 and knows his game while Imam is still learning his craft.

The issue is when pakistani batsmen play well, the wicket is usually very good one for batting, so tough work awaits the bowlers.

Phehlukwayo, Hendricks and Shamsi can be targeted. For Rabada and Steyb should just play it in merit till 35-40 overs

Imam has played 34 (63) dots, Babar has played 32 (65) dots. Not much in it.

But Imam's rate of hitting boundaries is really poor.

Amla has become such a liability to the odi team. Terrible with the bat and even worse in the field.
