What's new

Sri Lanka beat Australia by 229 runs in the 2nd Test

Why they called this guy holland? A nothing spinner to be honest & probably 'll bat at 11. Why they didn't call Zampa?

Zampa is bog average at first class level. Averages in the 50s, econ rate over 4, 1 wicket per innings kind of stuff.

Sheffield Shield has very weak spinning stocks which is one of the main reasons Australian batsmen struggle against spin

I see. Lankan's are very good player of left arm spin (3 out of 5 spinners in SRL or BD are SLAO) - against these two sides, probably better to play leggi & offie. Herath has an average of 58 against BD while, Rehman/Babar/Sakib probably double against SRL.

Regarding shield, I think it's mainly due to the wickets - there should be enough wrist spinners in AUS, but on those recent drop in wickets, you know. That's killing the spin playing capacity; besides, now probably they use machine swen kookaburra; a nightmare for finger spinners. Lyon, in that regard is quite good actually. Where is that lefti guy making 98 on debut?

Agar?

Shoulder surgery.

His bowling regressed a fair bit last summer but I still think he's got potential. His batting really improved though

Australia is the absolute graveyard for spinners, especially finger spinners.

No wonder spinners fail to flourish in the shield tournament.

Nah, spinners can get turn in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney.

It's SA and NZ that are graveyards for spinners.

That is true, Adelaide definitely. But MCG and SCG have become very flat over the years and were unbelievably flat the last time we toured. The drop in pitches just kill any sort of assistance to the bowlers.

In general, I consider the southern hemisphere as the graveyard for the spinners:narine (unlike England, West Indies which are pretty balanced).

SCG is not a drop in.

The test wickets (eg not shield) are deliberately made flat to maximise tv revenue

This SL side is stronger than the ones India and Pakistan faced.

A bit better in batting.

A lot better in bowling.

Not even going to bother with this.

Bring on Richmond v Collingwood

Good opportunity for Mitch to just go the tonk and reach his average

What a minnow side Australia is in subcontinent!

It wasn't this bad even in 2010 or so when they were supposedly rebuilding.

I still remember a few years back when people would point out Hughes struggles against spin as why we should ignore him for good and go somewhere else.

Head and shoulders the best prospect in the country.

And scored a test century in Asia

India should whitewash WI to obtain the No1 Ranking. Not possible now

Drawing a test with a 8 ranked team (with 65 points) will not increase any point :yk

Oh.. didn't know that.. but how bad is it to lose to a number 7 ranked test side :yk

Let's all take a moment to laugh at Australia :))

This is showing what the problem is.

After failing against spin Australia always go into this moralistic mode talking about 'toughing it out', 'batting long' and not being 'irresponsible'.

The only way to handle the spinners is to smash them like Warner and now Marsh is doing. Blocking is waiting the one with your name on it.

Sandakan to bowl. Where is sensible-indian-fan?

Srilanka have gone the India way this test .
What a ruthless pitch . Turning from ball 1.

Australia are pathetic away from home. These flat roads in Australia aren't helping them.

What a lulloo captaincy to bring him just now.

Mathews never ceases to amaze me.

And he picks up a wicket 2nd ball.

There is NO LIMIT to Mathews stupidity if he intentionally held Sandakan back.

Australia are becoming proper minnows in Asia.......

Where are the apologists man !!! Would love to hear the excuses today :))

I'm sorry Australia, it was a bit funny when you were getting all out for 60 and 136.

But now you're just trying too hard.

Just came home from uni to this awesome scoreline! :uakmal

Now we need to score at least 150 is. Make sure Australia's batsmen know before they begin the chase that they haven't a prayer. None of this 70 all out business please, otherwise Australia will still have some cause for confidence. I want them in a hopeless situation!

SL also in trouble, i am not watching the match but from sc it seems pitch is very bowling friendly.

Sri Lankan pitches are best in the sub continent. They always hv something for everyone though at times slightly tough for batsmen but over all very sporting wickets.

Tests in SL for the last year or so since the Pakistan series have been very interesting.

No. The problem is that modern Australian batsmen are vastly inferior to their predecessors and don't have the game to play on these wickets

Convict What's the response in Australia?

See Pantani

Cricket Australia's media team hasn't even mentioned the series and instead advertised that the summer of cricket is only 100 days away.

Olympics, AFL and NRL have all the attention.

Hard core fans are pretty unhappy but unsurprised and saying the same things they have said every series for the last decade or so

This is pathetic from Australia! And what is that playing XI they keep changing it? How can they have settled batting lineup? (This might work only on their home pitches where their any selected hack can swing the bat as they are all used to true bounce and pace there!) I don't think they will ever produce batsmen with sensible thinking and grafting skills. And their bowling is no more effective as it used to be in 90s & early 00s.

Lol even if Sri Labka declare right now they have a chance of winning on day 2!

Herath must be the chubbiest bowler ever to pick up a Test hat-trick.
