What's new

Sri Lanka v Australia | 2nd ODI | Adelaide

Much improved performance this time around but still a few holes in the bowling side of things. Need to stop bowling boundary balls every damn over. But good to see MJ back to his ODI captaincy mode and setting good attacking field settings despite the poor bowling in some phases. Gave away easy singles the whole game last time around. Top knock by Thiri deserved that 100 after missing out in the SCG Test. Liked the look of Kusal too hit a couple of top shots towards the end. Hopefully useless UT will be replaced by MJ at the top and Chandi, Herath and Eranga will be available for the next match. Will be up against a much better Aus side at the Gabba I'm sure.

Thirimanne is very underrated. Thankfully, Sri Lanka proved me wrong. No whitewash. Atleast, this series will be well contested.

Well out of last 12 matches against Aus in Aus, SL have won 7 of them and Aus 5.

SL are always competitive in the ODI's out here. They do usually suck at the first one then come good. Which is what has happened here, aided by terrible selections from us.

Michael Clarke, David Warner and Matthew Wade are back in Australia's ODI squad for the matches against Sri Lanka in Brisbane and Sydney, while Moises Henriques has been included for his first international matches since 2009. The selectors dropped Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith after the opening two matches, while Brad Haddin was also left out having picked up a hamstring injury in Australia's loss of the second ODI in Adelaide. Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson have been deemed fit to play, forcing out Ben Cutting and Kane Richardson.

Australia squad: Michael Clarke (capt), George Bailey, Xavier Doherty, Moises Henriques, Phillip Hughes, David Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Clint McKay, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner

Henriques :)))

List A averages, 24 with the bat and 40 with the ball. And we pick him. Good lord.

lol @ CA for chopping + changing in a heartbeat

CA clearly don't give a damn about this series. Resting players, trying new ones. We are down to 3rd strong players for some positions.

Interesting to see if they keep doing this vs WI straight after this or then try to finalise their lineup for the Champions Trophy.

Seems like they've mixed up his 4 day form (314 runs at 78.5; 13 wickets at 17.69) with his limited overs form.

Jokes aside they are obviously going to have a look at a few players, particularly the all rounders Maxwell, Smith and Henriques. We need a new all rounder, given that the gun one we have can't stay on the park.

But I am not sure what our best ODI eleven is and haven't been for a while. Don't think the selectors know either.

Random thoughts on the game:

Bailey is a genuine first XI batter for us now

Maxwell's spin bowling looked alright to me, not as a specialist bowler though. He got a ripping ball to get out

Smith's bowling looked promising but hurt himself with the bat. Was promoted to four and threw it away with an ugly heave

McKay is not a strike bowler, he is a support bowler
