Well played innings by Sarfraz. Unlucky but it's the way he plays so fans should get off his back.

He had not been up there fitness wise in the past and even now is fitness is questionable. His chance will soon arrive and we will see how he fares under the heat of test match cricket.

There is no guarantee that Haris would have done well you don't drop an in form young Batsmen just on a hunch that the other can do better if anybody who has to be dropped it has to be Shehzad or Hafeez to make way for Haris

Shafiq is also a better fielder than Haris so he gives an extra dimension there as well.
 
Haris Sohail is nowhere near nready for Test level

He has the Umar Akmal disease where he has a brain freeze and cant get past 40s and 50s.

Shafiq has a test century in South Africa and has managed to average 40+ and has been in the side for a while.

Shafiq sweeps the floor with Haris right now in Tests

Wow, just tuning in, seems Sarfraz played another gem of an innings, he really is a quality Test player mA.

That's another area Pakistan has gone completely wrong. They both are not openers. They have probably most horrible technique for any test opener around the world. Only Pakistan can stick with such low standards.

Haris and Azhar are much better new ball players. But it would be unjust to sacrifice them as opener.

Harris has being best domestic player, 50+ avg where as all others has avg in low 40s.

I have. I agree to an extent but sometimes he needs to re-access the situation and avoid playing that sweep shot. And that too, when facing a fast bowler.
 
Imagine if we had adnan akmal in the last few test matches.

Sarfraz has made such a big difference.

In that case Fawad Alam has been the best among these lot and averages 50+ in domestic and has a 168 on his debut as well

Not to mention a better fielder than Harris and in modern day Cricket your Fielding skills are as important as your primary skill
 
Sarfraz is doing well for these asian pitches and has played some amazing knocks but he needs to improv his game for quicker and bouncier pitches as he is one of our main batsmen now. Good luck to him.

100% agreed that Fawad deserves a chance. Baffling that he is not a regular in our test team - he even did decent with Pak A team that toured SL too.

We have seen how much Shafiq's brain freezes in Odis. After getting millions of chances at every position he could not handle pressure to scoring at decent rate. A big flop in that format.

In test he rarely lead from front, it's always somebody else weather its Younis, Misbah, Sarfraz who lead the charge not him.

Shafiq looking like a completely different player this morning than he did yesterday afternoon/evening.

Much better SR too. I guess having Sarfarz at the other end making hay also helped.

Tests and ODI's are different formats Raina is a brilliant LOI player but an average Test player.

Fawad Alam would be better in Asia but not on non Asian conditions. I think that is the reason he was never selected in test.

Sort of same as Misbah, who was/is never better batsmen than YK, MoYo, Inzi but his fitness and determination take him to survive after they were gone. His technique is very limited. UAE has done wonders for him. His tuk tuk works there.

Shafiq has been in the team for a good 5 years now and still bats and has the body language of a debutant.

Raina is a Tula batsmen, works on patha tracks. His technique was exposed in test. If he has batted up the order in Odis, he would have exposed there too.

How do we know Harris is not good in test?? - he has problem with shot ball but that is true for almost every batsmen from Asia. The way he was negotiating Strac in Adilade while Misbah was all over the place, and that's not the only time, he played Styen and Morkel well on supporting track as well. He was playing on bouncy tracks for the first time.

Challo yaar both will be playing in test in year or two. But Shafiq has huge head start.

But we might be debating wrong thing, real problem is openers. Without consistent foundation even Tendulkar was not so successful [emoji17][emoji17] (remember 8-0 when Indian openers were consistently failing)

The lack of appreciation on PakPassion for defensive test innings under pressure baffles me. You guys have no idea what test cricket is about. Everyone batting like Sarfraz would be disastrous.

You got to understand it was Sarfraz who got not just Pakistan out of jail but Shafiq as well. He would have lost his wicket if Herat keep on bowling for another half an hour in the morning. Test cricket moves forward when somebody takes initiative. Australia has being filled with 4/5 stroke makers, they did not cry for defensive players. We are playing too aggressively.

Pakistan mentality in batting has always being sissy, that's why we never have being number 1 team. In bowling we had that attitude, in batting we left our balls in dressing room most of the time!!

I thought Bazid was a good analyst, but even he is putting personal goals ahead of the team. Asad's century is not important here, with this attitude you will not win many matches.
 
This innings confirms my suspicion that herath is now a nearly spent force. Sri Lanka are going to struggle without Sanga and Herath in tests.

Perera looks quite a decent offspinner though.

This is one of the BIGGEST problems with Pakistani fans.

Why should PAKISTAN force the game? Why doesnt SL? 2 leg side boundary fielders vs Wahab? Why not bring in the field? Indian commentators always come to Dhoni defense. English guys come to Cook defense. Both are way more defensive!!!

Absolutely 0 reason for Pak to declare!!! They are just picking on Pak team to force the game! Where was the bashing for Silva? He scored SLOWER than Asad. Why was SL not forcing the game then either?

Complete rubbish! Good on Bazid for not giving in to pressure and saying no need to declare until Asad gets a 100, which would be a decent lead for Pak by then. Then you declare!! Not while trailing..... not with our team

:akhtar let plays shafiq is great but sarfaraz but also look new keeper as well his is not up to standard but at the moment ok

Why do you need a "quick" lead? There's still lots of time left in this match. The goal is to get as many runs as possible, whether slow or fast.

Yes but it is the second session of day 4 and there are much more chances of a draw than a result I reckon unless shafiq really steps up the scoring rate.
 
Why is asad taking single every first ball of a over, horrible thinking.
 
Pakistan will almost get lead of 50 runs. So need to get SL out around 250 runs.
