What's new

Sussex vs Pakistanis | Tour Match | Hove | Jul 8th-10th, 2016 | Day 2

So basically on this pitch where everyone has managed to get runs and the opposition had an opening partnership of 150+ Hafeez has failed twice.

11 overs bowled and no wicket yet :O :O

I'll take it if they can repeat this in the Test matches tbh. They just need to protect the middle-order from the brand new ball, that's the extent of my hopes and expectations from them. :))

Might be considering opening with azhar and drafting in Rizwan or mukhtar in to middle order

What are you on? I havent seen a worse top order batsman in my life. Calling him a batsman is a compliment.

One spot to decide. I think rahat is lock after today. I think riaz is out of running after today.
Question is if we need a workhorse then imran is better option than sohail. Sohail is more skilled with new ball but u will get very little useful bowling out of him outside first 16 and last 10 overs of the day. But he is likely to make on average 15 to 20 more runs than imran per innings.

If riaz had bowled tight today he would have got the nod as lords is flat but seems he was quite erratic

Why not make Azhar open and send Hafeez into the middle order...

That's not a real solution. Azhar is doing well at 3, if Hafeez is failing as an opener, bring in a better opener

Did anyone really expect much from Hafeez in England, other than maybe an inning or two of runs

You usually give very well thought out and sensible opinions and are a solid poster.

So it's a bit baffling to see Mukhtar being given as a suggestion by you of all people

Don't agree with this, the fact that Hafeez is in the team is because he's an opener. He might do better in the middle order but then would rather play Haris Sohail, Babar Azam, Fawad Alam etc.

Hafeez has to open for the good of the team. Opening is definitely hard in tests, there aren't many stellar openers especially in foreign conditions.

If the openers can see out the new ball and protect the middle order that'll be good.

I'd have been happy to promote Azhar to let some new guy develop in the middle order but Hafeez isn't worth it, he's not around the top talented middle order players that we have.

Well, I saw Mukhtar bat and he wasn't very good. But I think the sample size was too small. He has been selected for the test squad for a reason. Considering that Hafeez can neither bat well or bowl, Mukhtar could be an option. Could play impactful innings or could bowl well against their lefties. But then again maybe Misbah has no confidence in him and chooses Rizwan instead and part time bowling is assigned to Azhar Ali.

Are you confusing Mulhtar with Sami Aslam (who is unjustly hyped imo btw)

Mukhtar isn't even in the squad

Riaz has been with Essex from the start of the season so its surprising how wayward his bowling was today.

Mangement in a bit of a pickle here about who to pick

lol you mean Iftikhar right?

My bad, still Hafeez is much better than him.

Let me put it this way: vs, the big boys outside UAE, I can predict hafeez's output with near certainty. I cant do that for Iftikhar.
So if I am pretty sure that Hafeez will fail, why would I bother with selecting him?

Sending Hafeez down to 5-6 is another option. I'd actually back him to score a couple of 50s at those positions.

But my preference would be bringing in Rizwan.
