The 2016 U.S. Elections Thread

Speaking of Obama.Looks like Uncle Bernie has been called to the Principal's office on Thursday. Expect him to endorse Hillary after that meeting. If not, than he is even a bigger fool than anyone expected.

Sanders asked for the meeting with Obama, not the other way around.

i am not understanding what Bernie's end game is. Even Kasich was weirdly in the race for a long time knowing there was no way he would win and then ended up dropping out after Cruz.

It is just not statistically possible for him to win the Dem ticket so why prolong the challenge? You should know when you defeated

His goal is much bigger than the nomination and extends past the convention, he wants to go into the convention with as much power as possible to incorporate his ideas onto the democratic platform. Besides, there is the chance than Clinton will be indicted.

The whole Bernie Sanders progressive movement is meant to be a revolution, and a revolutionary doesn't just say 'ohhh the maths is against me, I concede, all you people supporting me should now go and support the very establishment we've been up against this whole time'. This revolution is meant to extend way past this campaign, the campaign is only just the beginning.

A self-declared socialist getting 46% of the delegates in a country that is the heartland of global capitalism, despite being 60% behind Hillary Clinton in the national polling last year, with next to nothing in terms of fundraising, media support or name recognition, and with all the establishment against him - that my friend is a political revolution.

Good for him but I think that has more to do with Clintons's unpopularity than Sander's appeal. There has been a small but very active socialist movement going on for the last few years, particularly among young people..example Occupy Wall Street. All that crowd came into the Sanders camp and it helped him win small, rural and mainly white states or where caucuses were involved which require more activists and highly motivated political supporters. Hillary won every big and diverse state in the primaries. Bernie could not get the black or latino voters to come to his side. Young millenials are not where the heart of the democratic party lies. As they grow old they will come to join the mainstream party anyways unless a third party arises which is unlikely. Again, not to belittle Sander's achievements, but I think the writing was always on the wall.

He is looking like a sore loser right now, a stubborn old man. He had the great opportunity to endorse Hillary after losing California and congratulating her for being the first woman ever of winning the nomination for President of a major political party. He could have appeared bigger, generous and open hearted, yet he came out looking a raving lunatic along with his mad supporters. If he doesn't believe in the rules adopted by the democratic party than why did he run as their candidate in the first place, why not as an independent.

What happens if the investigation drags through the election process and becomes a major issue between Trump and Clinton ?

What if the decision comes after Trump's inauguration ?

Superdelegates need to take that into account. Clinton already behind Trump in GE polling. If Trump goes after her or there is an economic crash in the US (very likely) it would damage the Democrat Establishment and damage Obama and Clinton. Superdelegates need to take into account Sanders beats Trump in GE polling.

So the maths is take a risk on potential liabiity Clinton who only won amongst the Democrat Party selectorate vs Sanders who has shown ability to reach outside Democratic selectorate and win with floaters/Independents.

Lot of "what ifs" in your post.

So you asking the super delegates to ignore a candidate who has won more pledged delegates, has more popular votes than his opponent and has won all the big and diverse states in the Primary. I just don't get it.

Also, Clinton has been ahead in several polls coming out recently and I expect that margin to get bigger post democratic convention when the party unites behind her just like with Trump.

As for independents. Keep in mind that Primaries only touch 10% of the voters compared to the general elections. Is the country in general ready for Bernie, big question mark. Plus, Hillary has been attacked by the republicans for years, I would argue more than any other politician in history and she has sustained all that and thrived. Can the same be said about Bernie.

Why would he endorse something he's been standing against for his entire campaign? He's not an ordinary politician, nor is his campaign a normal campaign. He's leading a revolution, and endorsing Clinton would mean endorsing something that he stands against.

But going by your logic than no one can ever endorse their opponent when they lose because obviously they thought they were better than the other otherwise why would they be running in the first place. Its a political tradition. Its made to bring the party together to fight the bigger evil. If Bernie doesn't want to do it than fine. His endorsement does not matter much anyways. People in the general election will make their own mind when given the choice between two people.

It's not about ideology in this case, that's what makes this election so different.

The one constant of Hillary's career when she faces the voters is that the more they see of her, the more they learn about her the less they like her. In NY Senate races or in her tilts at the White House her poll standings always slip as polling day beckons. We cane safely say that The Donald will spend every day until polling day reminding Americans of Clinton's numerous character flaws. Let's start with Whitewater move on through names long forgotten like Jennifer Flowers and get right up to date with those missing emails and those donations to the Clinton Foundation by a range of Godawful vote losers.

Democrats know in their heart of hearts that Clinton is a very weak candidate indeed. Were it to be Obama from 2008 (not the tired and disliked Obama of today) up against Trump in 2016 you'd be calling the contest already. The Donald would be toast. As it is the polls are neck and neck and Hillary has never in her career seen her poll ratings head anywhere other than south during a campaign.

Choosing Hillary will hand WhiteHouse to Trump. Democrat Establishment may wake up at some point.

The thing about Hillary and her campaign is that it all seems very good at a first glance. The problem in the US is that many voters are people who only give a glance, however I do expect her to be exposed due to various unique factors during this election cycle.

There is a lot of uncharted territory this time round including The Donald, passionate #neverhillary Bernie supporters who will probably advocate for people to go for third parties. Already, we're seeing third parties with record polling numbers. The Libertarian party are at 10%, at 15% they will be allowed to enter presidential debates.

One poll came out showing that if Bernie were to run independent, he would already get around 20% of the vote. That's quite impressive considering he's not running as an independent at this stage. 15% is enough to put him in the debates.

With third parties like Gary Johnson and Jill Stein already receiving a shared total of 15% in a couple of polls (Johnson 10%, Stein 5%), and polls showing that almost 50% of Americans want a third choice, it's quite clear how dissatisfied Americans are with the choice they have. If third parties keep polling this high (or higher), then Bernie would actually stand a chance if he ran independently. Imagine a debate with Hillary, Trump, Bernie, and Johnson. That would be very very interesting as Johnson is likely to pull republicans discontent with Trump and maybe a few moderates, while Bernie has already built up a strong base.

It's important to get that National exposure. Bernie went from nothing to almost 50% of the Democrat vote in months against Establishment Killary. Could see him destroying both her and Trump once he is on stage with both

Very interesting video documenting just why so many Americans feel they've not benefited from the economic recovery and are so angry about income inequality.
s28 - this video proves what a fraud "trickle down" neoliberal economics really is.

Everyone knows trickle-down is a fraud it's just the anger is not marshalled by Establishment/1% controlled political parties and MSM

More power to elbow of outlets like The Young Turks is raising awareness of the issue.

It's ALL about inequality and where Islam has always had answers.
Zakat brings redistributive tax system and abolition of Usury prevents concentration of capital in hands of Usurers.

Good point made by one speaker at recent peoplesppe event on Islamic approach to justice and how Saudis should 'theoretically' be paying 25% Zakat on their unearned commodity windfall assets.

US election 2016: Bernie Sanders endorses Hillary Clinton

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has received an endorsement from her former rival Bernie Sanders.

The Vermont senator and former Democratic presidential candidate is appearing with Mrs Clinton at a campaign event in New Hampshire.

Mrs Clinton and Mr Sanders have been negotiating since she all but guaranteed the nomination in June.

Mr Sanders hopes to have a large influence the Democratic platform.

"She will be the Democratic nominee for president and I intend to do everything I can to make certain she will be the next president of the United States," he said.

"This campaign is about the needs of the American people and addressing the very serious crises that we face. And there is no doubt in my mind that, as we head into November, Hillary Clinton is far and away the best candidate to do that."

He defeated Mrs Clinton in New Hampshire's primary contest in February.

His supporters have largely decided to support Mrs Clinton in an effort to stop presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump from winning the White House.

Mr Sanders stayed in the Democratic race far longer than many expected, for weeks after it became clear he would not secure the delegates needed to win the nomination.

He has pressed Mrs Clinton to support his views on higher education, health care and the minimum wage.

"It is no secret that Hillary Clinton and I disagree on a number of issues. That's what this campaign has been about. That's what democracy is about," said Mr Sanders.

"But I am happy to tell you that... there was a significant coming together between the two campaigns and we produced, by far, the most progressive platform in the history of the Democratic Party."

Mr Trump, who has been trying to court Sanders supporters, wrote in a tweet that Mr Sanders has "totally sold out to Crooked Hillary Clinton. Fans angry!"

Not Feeling The Bern now seems to sum up sentiment of many Sanders supporters

Sanders is right to endorse Clinton. Look Hillary's a massively flawed candidate who's establishment as establishment gets but Trump is so unprepared, so unqualified that Democratic voters have got to unite in face of the common threat.

Now before folks say Bernie's achieved nothing and has sold out - look at the Democratic Party platform. He's succeeded in shifting it to a more progressive direction with his $15 minimum wage plan now endorsed.

Clinton's now accepted large parts of Bernie Sanders's free college tuition plan.

Bernie will get a decent job in the West Wing now. Good for him.

Bernie might have gotten a few concessions from Hillary and the Democratic party. Clinton platform has shifted from where it was from the start of primaries. If she and the Democratic party want to keep the seats that they are going to gain this election in the mid terms they need to stay with the changes and not move back. And Trump is an opponent that they should be able to beat easily without having to move to the right center like Bill Clinton did.

hes going to be another clegg. who? exactly.

promises are made by the establishment to be broken. a huge very predictable and inevitable sell out. at least its an alternative voice that was heard. farage started off like that i suppose.

its funny watching the naive blink and whine though, like the remainers.

Sanders had no choice but to endorse her. The DNC rules don't allow you to speak at the convention if you don't endorse the presumptive nominee. He wouldn't exactly be able to put ideas onto the DNC agenda without being able to speak right?

Anyhow, the Sanders campaign did not lose, it was a huge victory. In the short run, he has put a few of his ideas onto the DNC/Clinton agenda and has the opportunity to put more of his ideas on the table due to winning a very decent amount of delegates and support from both democrats and independents. In the long run, he has sparked a political revolution that will surely succeed in the future due to the amount of millennials he has gotten on board.

At least Teh Donald will surely now lose, with all of the Hillary voters and most of the Bernie voters against him.

They thought he wouldn't even be a presumptous presidential candidate. There is lot of dislike in America regarding establishment candidate. He might win it. No one knows. The polls are too close. Trump core base is not going to abandon him he is going to only add up new numbers.

Looks like Mrs Clinton has ridden out the email investigation storm in time.

This is gonna be the ugliest yet most exiting election ever.. The ground is burning from the flame war from both sides. Disturbing behavior from anti-trump crowd in trump rallies followed by some very disgusting remarks from trump supporters and the man himself

I don't like either Hillary or trump.. So it's a matter of who sucks more. Can't wait till face to face debates start over

Hillary is an idiot tbh.. Would never consider voting for her if weren't for the special circumstances.. This gotta be the election with the most undeserving candidates ever ( from both side)

I actually wish Republicans had elected someone else besides trump or cruz..... I really don't know if I want another 8 years of democrats. After getting out of college I am begining to hate their policies which are really bad for the American working class. With wages stagnant and high taxes it is becoming hard to live in today's America.

Err Republicans are worried about the taxes ................ for the rich

And most of what you are talking about, stagnant wages, etc are a result of 8 years of Bush's Presidency which America is still reaping. Which policies do you hate?

Except FBI has confirmed that

1) Most of those documents were NOT classified during the period when Hillary was there. They have a habit if classifying e-mails POST the fact. Also do you know the classified e-mails can include such things as a restaurant menu, etc? Which is more government red tape than actual top secret

2) Hillary's private server was more secure than the government one which got hacked multiple times

3) The reason Hillary and others needed private servers were because they needed to react instantly to some things like drone strike approval, etc at a moments notice, while travelling which the secure server was not allowing

I hate when someone makes random memes without understanding what was involved

Everyone knows trickle-down is a fraud it's just the anger is not marshalled by Establishment/1% controlled political parties and MSM

Americans are still among the richest in the world and their middle class is richer than top in some countries. If you are talking about inequality look at other countries

More power to elbow of outlets like The Young Turks is raising awareness of the issue.

You mean the Armenian genocide deniers who named their channel after the guys who committed the genocide? They are among the stupidest channels, spouting garbage and making up facts to appeal to their young white demography. Spreading fear and falsehoods is their modus operenda and this election cycle proved that when they were wrong most times

Why would he endorse something he's been standing against for his entire campaign? He's not an ordinary politician, nor is his campaign a normal campaign. He's leading a revolution, and endorsing Clinton would mean endorsing something that he stands against.

He was NOT leading any revolution although he managed to fool a lot of young guys. He had absolutely ZERO plans, repeated the same garbage lines multiple times and would not answer any question straight. In his 35+ years as a politician he has never been able to get along with other people. And he was as big a flip flopper as Clinton

But every election cycle young guys get fooled by some promised messiah. He sowed the seeds of paranoia and lies and his supporters were among the most obnoxious ever, bullying people over social media and internet. They were openly racist and sexist. He didn't stand for anything except young, white males with delusions of grandeur.

#VoteForTrump I like Trump and his openness and braveness. He is not a coward like many other presidents

Bush's presidency was 8 years ago. That is a long time in American politics. I believe Obama has done too much to please the leftists in his party which has hurt the country in the long run. Some of the policies I don't like, The health care act (which benefits the poor, but my health care premiums are going up every year because of this thing), free trade agreements (more jobs leaving America and making other countries richer) and immigration (Increasing the H1B cap to replace the american worker with cheap labor). People think democrats are good for the working class but the last 8 years of Obama administration is making me believe otherwise.

At least Teh Donald will surely now lose, with all of the Hillary voters and most of the Bernie voters against him.

Looks like Mrs Clinton has ridden out the email investigation storm in time.

Recent poll numbers from swing states shows Trump either in the lead or even with Hillary. This after spending zero money in ads while Hillary has already spent millions in ads in swing states.

The email scandal is over technically but it has left a big cloud over Hillary's "trust worthy and honest" reputation. Trump despite being a total flip flopper over every issue under the sun is leading her in that category in polls. How do you change opinion about someone you have known for so long. The independents who dislike Hillary but hate Trump more might just decide to stay home while the enthusiastic Trump crowd, though a minority may end up coming out in record numbers.

Trump is still the underdog but he is on the rise. He is also starting to show some restraint in speeches and interviews though that might be an on and off thing. His VP pick could not have been a better choice, bringing in the moderate establishment republicans in the fold and adding stability to the ticket. Hillary meanwhile is stuck with her negatives.

The only way she can win is to develop so much fear among the people of America for a Trump presidency that the anti-Trump forces end up coming out in record numbers. Contrary to most elections, this election will be all about who you DO NOT want to become the President of US.

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2...ivilisation-the-art-of-the-deal-tony-schwartz

The co-author of Trump's famous Art of the Deal book is scathing about Trump. Calls him a sociopath and regrets ever portraying him in a positive light.

The co-author of Donald Trump’s book The Art of the Deal, Tony Schwartz, has revealed he feels a “deep sense of remorse” for portraying the mogul in a positive light and says he believes a Trump presidency may “lead to the end of civilisation”.

The Art of the Deal was published in 1987. It spent 48 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold more than 1m copies. Trump, now the presumptive Republican party presidential candidate, was paid a $500,000 (£375,000) advance by publisher Random House. He split the sum with Schwartz and gave him half the royalties. However, in a new interview with the New Yorker, Schwartz talked extensively about the 18 months he spent working with Trump, and said he would have titled the book The Sociopath.

“I put lipstick on a pig,” he said. “I feel a deep sense of remorse that I contributed to presenting Trump in a way that brought him wider attention and made him more appealing than he is … I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilisation.”

Schwartz initially met Trump while interviewing him as a journalist. Talking to him again for a piece in Playboy in 1985, Trump told him about his book deal and Schwartz suggested he focus on his leadership style. Trump liked the idea and offered Schwartz the job, which he took to solve money troubles. “It was a huge windfall,” he told the New Yorker. “But I knew I was selling out. Literally, the term was invented to describe what I did.”

Schwartz, who now runs a consulting firm, spent 18 months with Trump – in his office, helicopter, meeting rooms and in his Manhattan apartment and Florida estate on weekends. His first attempts to get Trump to participate in a series of traditional interviews did not work. Schwartz said discussion was consistently hobbled due to Trump’s short attention span, with Trump fidgeting until he’d ultimately call off the session. “It’s impossible to keep him focused on any topic, other than his own self-aggrandisement, for more than a few minutes,” Schwartz said. “If he had to be briefed on a crisis in the Situation Room, it’s impossible to imagine him paying attention over a long period of time.”

Actually you're doing a good job of it right now. As someone who's actually watched their videos, every story is well sourced either from the mainstream press or from a report.

Then they have a discussion, now you can disagree with their thoughts but to say they spread fear and falsehood is nonsense.

Also its interesting you bring up the classic right-wing anti-TYT talking point about genocide denial - the author has long renounced the original article. The channel is named Young Turks as explained in the description that appears in every video which you seem to have missed:

Young Turk (n), 1. Young progressive or insurgent member of an institution, movement, or political party. 2. Young person who rebels against authority or societal expectations. (American Heritage Dictionary)

His VP pick could not have been a better choice, bringing in the moderate establishment republicans in the fold and adding stability to the ticket.

Mike Pence is a curious choice given the issues he's at odds with Trump. Trump says he opposes the Iraq War (actually supported it on Howard Stern's show before the invasion but conveniently switched sides after everybody knew it was a disaster) whilst Pence voted for it. They disagree with regards to free trade. Trump wants to rip up the trade agreements whereas Pence is a supporter of TPP and others.

The biggest thing Trump had going for him was that he's supposedly anti-establishment but now he's blown that with an establishment pick. But yes at least he'll unite the party with this choice.

However Pence will not appeal to anyone outside the core Republican vote. Pence has a horrendous record on women and LGBT issues. Mother Jones documents how he's voted against the Employee Non-Discrimination Act, which aimed to prevent job discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Pence also signed a measure prohibiting women from obtaining an abortion because of the disability of the fetus, making Indiana only the second state in the nation to do this as well as many other anti-abortion laws - which'll could lead to many women having to endure high-risk pregnancies. He's been ferociously against Planned Parenthood and has tried to defund them many times.

If the GOP are better for the working class, why are 95 of the 100 poorest counties located in red states ? If that was true, then red states wouldn't be more likely to be in receipt of government welfare programmes like SNAP (food stamps). Isn't it ironic that the GOP continually bash "big government liberals" yet are LARGEST recipients of federal tax dollars, while more progressive states tend to contribute the most to the federal coffers.

If the GOP cared for the betterment of the working class, 9 out of 10 least educated states wouldn't be red.

But what's worst is the conservative hatred for ObamaCare has led numerous state to reject an expansion of Medicaid. This expansion would allow the poorest residents of those states to access health care and the refusal to expand healthcare is estimated to risk thousands of avoidable premature deaths every year. Some regard for the working class !

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/23/us/politics/tim-kaine-hillary-clinton-vice-president.html?_r=0

TAMPA, Fla. — Hillary Clinton named Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia to be her running mate Friday, selecting a battleground-state politician with working-class roots and a fluency in Spanish, traits that she believes can bolster her chances to defeat Donald J. Trump in November.

Mrs. Clinton’s choice, which she announced via text message to supporters, came after her advisers spent months poring over potential vice-presidential candidates who could lift the Democratic ticket in an unpredictable race against Mr. Trump.

In the end, Mrs. Clinton decided that Mr. Kaine, 58, a former governor of Virginia who sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had the qualifications and background, and the personal chemistry with her, to make the ticket a success.

Mrs. Clinton had entertained more daring choices. She considered Thomas E. Perez, the secretary of labor, who would have been the first Hispanic on a major party ticket; Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, who would have been the first African-American to seek the vice presidency; and James G. Stavridis, a retired four-star Navy admiral who served as the supreme allied commander at NATO but had never held elected office.

Ultimately, Mrs. Clinton, who told PBS that she was “afflicted with the responsibility gene,” avoided taking a chance with a less experienced vice-presidential candidate and declined to push the historic nature of her candidacy by adding another woman or a minority to the ticket.

Instead, the campaign, which had become concerned about its deficit with white men, focused on Mr. Kaine and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, and looked more closely at Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado.

At a campaign stop with Mrs. Clinton in Annandale, Va., last week, Mr. Kaine tried out for the role. “Do you want a ‘You’re fired’ president or a ‘You’re hired’ president?” he asked the crowd. “Do you want a trash-talker president or a bridge-builder president?” He compared Mrs. Clinton’s record of public service to that of his wife, Anne Holton, Virginia’s secretary of education. In recent days, former President Bill Clinton and the White House had expressed support for Mr. Kaine.

The announcement came after a day of campaign events in Orlando and Tampa in which Mrs. Clinton tried to offer a rebuke, both in actions and in words, to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

In Orlando, she laid flowers on a makeshift memorial outside the Pulse nightclub, where a gunman who expressed sympathy with the Islamic State killed 49 people last month. At an earlier round-table discussion with emergency medical workers and elected officials, Mrs. Clinton nodded solemnly and hardly spoke, an implicit contrast with Mr. Trump’s 75-minute speech on Thursday night.

2016 Election Polls
At a rally in Tampa on Friday evening, Mrs. Clinton blasted the bleak vision of America presented by her Republican rival. “The last thing that we need is somebody who is running for president who talks trash about America,” Mrs. Clinton said.

She showed solidarity with Mr. Trump’s top primary rival, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas. “I mean, I never thought I’d say these words, but Ted Cruz was right,” she said, and then quoted Mr. Cruz’s despondent Wednesday night speech. “Vote your conscience.”

Now some of the job of discrediting Mr. Trump will fall to Mr. Kaine, who wrote on Twitter that he was eager to hit the campaign trail.

“Just got off the phone with Hillary,” he said. “I’m honored to be her running mate.”

Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Kaine have similar positions on many issues, and they are said to share an easy rapport and an interest in policy details. “I do have a fondness for wonks,” Mrs. Clinton said in the PBS interview.

Asked whether Mr. Kaine was boring, Mrs. Clinton said, “I love that about him.” She added, “He’s never lost an election.”

Republicans seized on the selection and tried to sow discord among Democrats, arguing that the pick was evidence that Mrs. Clinton had been dishonest with her party’s liberal base.

“Hillary Clinton’s choice of Tim Kaine does nothing to unify a fractured Democrat base which is repelled by her dishonesty and cronyism,” Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, said in a statement. “After spending last week pandering to grass-roots Democrats with Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton has chosen someone who holds positions that she’s spent the entire primary trying to get to the left of.”

The Trump campaign quickly labeled Mrs. Clinton’s new running mate “Corrupt Kaine,” pointing to lavish gifts he had received during his years as governor and lieutenant governor of Virginia.

“It’s only fitting that Hillary Clinton would select an ethically challenged insider like Tim Kaine who’s personally benefited from the rigged system,” said Jason Miller, a spokesman for Mr. Trump.

While many Democrats swiftly praised the move, some in the party’s liberal wing expressed dismay, claiming that Mr. Kaine was out of step with it on some of its core issues, like trade.

“As we saw in Donald Trump’s speech last night, Republicans will run hard against Democrats on trade this year,” said Stephanie Taylor, a co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. “Unfortunately, since Tim Kaine voted to fast-track the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Republicans now have a new opening to attack Democrats on this economic populist issue.”

She added, “The mood of the country is a populist one.”

The son of a welder who owned a small metalworking shop, Mr. Kaine, a Roman Catholic, grew up around Kansas City, Mo. He attended a Jesuit school and took a break from law school at Harvard to spend time as a Catholic missionary in Honduras, an experience that his family has said shaped him and helped him become fluent in Spanish.

Early in his career, Mr. Kaine worked on fair housing and civil rights issues as a lawyer. He was elected to the City Council in Richmond, Va., in 1994, and proceeded to climb the ranks of elected office in the state. He became the city’s mayor in 1998, the state’s lieutenant governor in 2002 and the governor in 2006. He also served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

As governor, Mr. Kaine drew some support from rural parts of the state as well as strong backing in the state’s Democratic-leaning suburban areas. He led the state through one of its darkest times, the shooting at Virginia Tech that killed 32 people in 2007. In 2013, Mr. Kaine implored the United States Senate to find a “small measure of courage” to fight the gun lobby and impose tougher background checks on gun ownership.

Mr. Kaine was an early endorser of Senator Barack Obama’s presidential bid in the 2008 nominating fight against Mrs. Clinton. Mr. Kaine was also considered on Mr. Obama’s shortlist of vice-presidential candidates before Mr. Obama selected Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware. In 2012, Mr. Kaine defeated George Allen, a Republican, to take the Senate seat being vacated by the Democrat Jim Webb.

Mrs. Clinton’s choice of Mr. Kaine underscores the rising political importance of Virginia, a state with a significant suburban and minority population.

Mr. Obama defeated John McCain in the state by more than six percentage points, the first time since Lyndon B. Johnson’s victory in 1964 that the state had voted for a Democratic presidential nominee. An NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll from July 15 shows Mrs. Clinton ahead of Mr. Trump for the state’s 13 electoral votes by nine percentage points.

The search for a running mate began in April, after Mrs. Clinton had decisively won the New York primary, with a number of candidates.

Mrs. Clinton came to the process with a unique vantage point, having been closely involved in her husband’s selection of Senator Al Gore of Tennessee in 1992, a choice that brought youth and Southern charm to a ticket already overflowing with it.

With just days remaining before her announcement of a running mate, Mrs. Clinton had not yet made up her mind as her advisers debated what attributes voters might want in a vice president.

As the search narrowed, Mrs. Clinton wanted to test her chemistry on the campaign trail with Mr. Kaine. After their Virginia rally last week, she invited him to her home in Washington for a meeting that lasted until 10:30 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, just after her fiery speech in Tampa, Mrs. Clinton called Mr. Kaine to give him the news, before calling President Obama to let him know that she had chosen his friend.

See I was not talking about the poor class who make < 30k a year. I am talking about the middle class who fall in the 40k-80k range and those are the people who are suffering the most with rising costs. We all know GOP doesn't care about the poor class, but for someone like me, a college graduate making a middle class wage, GOP offers a lot more than democrats.

Lol your costs are rising becuase of the gop they protectionism of oil, health, insurance, cable industries and all other big corporations and the 1%. And gop unwillingness for government to invest in infrastructure and privatising most of it is going make things worse. Although I have to say Clinton Democrats are no better so for most Americans it's a more a tails you loose heads they win kind of situation.

There is something missing in Hillary's rhetoric. When she speaks, she does not quite sound natural or powerful enough. She comes across as too scripted and forced.

She also reserves several chapters in each speech for personal attacks on Trump. Frankly I prefer to hear about her beliefs, proposals and policies - this is when she sounds most positive and comfortable.

Trump seems to have a more straightforward way of speaking. He adapts to each different audience and knows how to communicate with Joe American Public on their level, however (respectfully) basic that level might be on occasion.

Objectively I think Trump looks more electable at the moment. Hillary doesn't quite seem cut out for it so far. She needs to up her game considerably, or we could have an upset in November.

The Indian boy helping Donald Trump ‘Make America Great Again’

Avinash Iragavarapu is in charge of running the Republican Party’s campaigns in Arizona as part of the presidential elections

Iragavarapu, as part of the presidential elections, is now tasked with helping Trump carry Arizona, a state the Republicans have held since George W Bush wrested it in 2000. “There’s a lot of enthusiasm for Trump in Arizona,” he says. “During the primaries, we registered around 50,000 new people to vote for Donald Trump.” Trump went on to win the Arizona primaries, with 47 delegates and 47.1% of the votes.

The enthusiasm is fueled by the fact that Trump is seen as an outsider who doesn’t believe “in political correctness”. Iragavarapu says, “Trump reaches out to people the party doesn’t usually reach out to, like the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) voters, a new base the party hasn’t tried reaching out to in the past. He taps into the thought of the people, the anti-establishment sentiment and importantly, talks their language.

Trump’s strengths, he adds, are also his weaknesses. “He does not appeal to people who are considered independent. Besides, he doesn’t have a well-oiled campaign team just yet, unlike Clinton. It is my job in Arizona, to get more independents to vote for Trump.” Equally, as a campaign insider, Iragavarapu says Trump personality makes his job a lot easier. “People can see the freshness in his campaign. He is incredibly open to suggestions, and takes advice from relevant people.” After all, over 14 million voters chose Trump in the primaries.

Iragavarapu’s story is rather interesting, especially given his background as an immigrant, a word that has dominated Trump’s approach to making America great again. “I have met him personally. He knows I am from India. He’s a totally fine person, and he’s embraced me with open arms. He has only spoken out against illegal immigration.

Proud of you, Avinash

Sure I guess Trumo wasn't supporting regime change back in 2011.

He has no position. He just flip flops according to the situation. Hillary 2016

Guilty, but he seems to have learned quick and never endorsed the Syria war, unlike Hillary, and now is the face of stopping of U.S. intervention regime change wars. Keep on shilling.

Also I find Saeed's stances funny. Ghar pe modi modi, America me hillary hillary. Ghar me Hindutva nationalism, America me left wing liberalism. Greencard chaihe kya?

What is their endorse in Syria? America didn't start the Syrian civil war. If Hillary had not intervened in Libya millions of people would have died. The only bad outcome was that America didn't had a plan on what to do afterwards.

Bhai you don't know me. I voted for Bernie but since Bernie is out, Hillary is the best choice left. What even makes you think I am from India or even Pakistan. Maybe I wasn't even born in those countries. Stop focusing on me because it is very hard to prove hypocrisy over the Internet.

You're entirely brainwashed on pro-US intervention propaganda they sprout on CNN. The latest DNC emails Wikileaks proves in writing how much these Western stations are in cohorts and collusion with the government.

Libya was an economic powerhouse under Gaddafi. It was the richest state and with the highest human development index in all of African continent. The "civil war" against him was no different than what is happening with Assad, foreign funded mercenaries backed by NATO/US.

Watch less CNN and read more Democracy Now.

Its like you've learned nothing from US-Iraq war.

I saw Faridabad and the Modi logo. Very hypocritical stance to support Bernie if you support Modi don't you think? Did you tell other Bernie voters that Modi is anti illegal Bangladeshi immigration who planned to deport them?

http://thewire.in/30911/can-the-bjp...ort-undocumented-immigrants-if-it-wins-assam/
"On that day, Narendra Modi – as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate – said in an election rally in West Bengal’s Serampore, “Note this down. After May 16 (when he would take over as prime minister), I will send these Bangladeshis beyond the border bag and baggage.”

Or that he plans to build a longer, more sturdy fence along the Bangladeshi border?

Mere bhai I think Bernie will be upset to know your left right/right wing cognitive dissonance.

Meray bhai how hard is it wear a modi logo and Indian flag? It's not like I have to vote for modi to earn this logo. I can change my logo to Trump and flag to American flag right now, it doesn't take much effort. Again stop focusing on me, you're not going prove anything over here.

Just found it funny lol. I know another friend who is hardcore Modi fan and hardcore Bernie fan. When I pointed out the hypocrisy she was blue in the face.

You should be supporting Congress and Indira/Rahul Gandhi, seeing you have no problems with liberalism even if there is hard proof of corruption and bribes against them (like Clinton).

lol. Good on you for pointing him out. Looks like you still don't get what I said. Here is another hint. I don't get to vote in India. I don't have to vote for someone to wear their logo.

So clearly you must hate Modi bhai. Why wear his icon? I hope you also activist against him in US whenever he comes to visit. Modi has history and support of Hindutva, you do realize that right? That's like KKK of India.

Best video.

Aise video dekha Bernie ya Hillary ke liye, toh me vote karunga Hillary :rp

DT just called HC The Devil:

Donald Trump: Bernie Sanders made a deal with the devil - She's the devil! Hillary Clinton

Just another politician, or seriously confused? That's a lot of cognitive dissonance.

This guys need to be locked up. He his made US politics reach the level of third world politics.

Trump's "second amendment people" jibe yet another demonstration of how unstable this man is.

We all know what a bunch of hotheads these Trump supporters are given the violence we've seen at his rallies. We saw what happened to Gabby Giffords a few years ago.

Imagine what the reaction would've been if a Democratic candidate made a similar jibe at their Republican rival. Fox News would have been crying 24/7.

Tbf MSNBC and the liberal media has been crying for the past 24 hours as well so nothing new there

But Trumps campaign is self exploding

If it was a more controversy free candidate like John Kerry or Al Gore them the Dems would've won this election by a record margin

The Republican presidential nominee said of his Democratic opponent: "Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish the Second Amendment, by the way, and if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks.

"But the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don't know."

No she doesn't you goddamn liar.

Lot of top Republicans now abandoning Donald.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...-hillary-clinton-instead-of-donald-trump.html

Major Republican donor and Hollywood mogul Harry Sloan said in a statement that Trump “does not embody the values that have made me a lifelong Republican.” The former MGM CEO added, "As a businessman, a father, and a conservative it is clear to me that Hillary Clinton is the right choice in this election."

Two former Republican heads of the Environmental Protection Agency say Trump has “a profound ignorance of science.” William D. Ruckelshaus (who served under Nixon) and William K. Reilly (George H.W. Bush administration) publicly endorsed Clinton on August 9.

Reagan’s former White House political director, Frank Lavin, criticized the mogul and declared his vote would go to Clinton in an op-ed for CNN. Lavin hit Trump for his business record as well as temperament: “The bankruptcies reflect a man who either lacks reasonable business judgment or reasonable business ethics.”

Lezlee Westine, former White House aide to George W. Bush, issued a statement of her support for Clinton but did not specify why she opposes Trump. She did, however, praise Clinton for being able to provide “steady and experienced leadership.”

Former Michigan Governor William Milliken said Trump does not reflect the “ideals” of “tolerance, civility and equality,” and added that he would be supporting Clinton for the presidency.

New York Rep. Richard Hanna was the first Republican in Congress to openly support Clinton, as reported by The Washington Post. In an op-ed by Hanna published on August 2, the Congressman rebuked Trump for both his personality and talking points that alienate minority groups. “I found him profoundly offensive and narcissistic but as much as anything, a world-class panderer, anything but a leader,” wrote Hanna, who is retiring at the end of his term.

US is doomed. One side they have horrible, on the other side they have a bit less horrible...

It's not

It will be the superpower of our times regardless of who is President

Sometimes we attach too much power to the post of President. The president is not a Monarch or dictator who can set his policies on a whim and have them followed

The checks and balances of the US system ensure that.

I personally think there are way too many checks and balances to the point that they are a hindrance but the wisdom of those become apparent when you see an unhinged candidate like Trump.

Ironically, these two are facing their best possible opponent they have a shot winning against, but both are trying to out-do each other in screwing themselves :))
