Joe Root, who took two wickets with his off-spin yesterday, believes England can make some early inroads today if they carry on with the attitude they showed in the evening session on day one.

"It wasn't our best day and with the conditions we had we wouldn't have liked to have been batting yesterday, Root said.

"We created a few chances we didn't take, but that's how Test cricket can go sometimes.

Kohli has 32 more international centuries than Smith in the same “generation”, so it is laughable to say that Smith is the best batsman of this generation.

Best Test batsman easily, but Kohli stands alone on the best all-format batsman podium. In spite of his regression since 2019, he still light years ahead of his peers across formats which shows he brilliant he was in his pomp.

Smith’s better record in World Cup knockouts does not make up for the gigantic difference between him and Kohli in the ODI format overall.

Anyway, this is a debate for another day and another thread. Let’s stay on topic here before the moderators chime in.

Apart from a purple patch in tests from around 2014-18 Kohli has been an average test player.

I never rated Australian bowling. May be because every random guy did well against Australian bowling whenever we toured. Among the SENA countries this is the easier bowling attack to face for India. Nobody swings like Boult or Southee.
