Happy with the season overall, never expected such a compatible finish and we would have done better with Grealish in the finishing stretch shaykh

Aston Villa have agreed a club-record deal worth an initial £33m for Norwich City midfielder Emiliano Buendia.

Villa have moved swiftly to head off potential interest from Arsenal.

The Argentine, 24, was the Canaries' player of the season as they cruised to the Championship title last term and a return to the Premier League.

The deal, which could rise to £38m with add-ons, is close to completion with personal terms agreed and a medical already conducted in Argentina.

The total package - which also includes a sell-on clause of 10% - eclipses the signing of Ollie Watkins from Brentford last summer, which was an initial £28m rising to £32m with add-ons.

Buendia has won promotion twice in his three years with Norwich, either side of making 36 Premier League appearances as the Canaries were relegated in 2019-20.

Therr was a sell-on clause in the deal which saw Norwich sign him from Getafe for £1.5m in 2018 but the Carrow Road club bought this out.

Countdown for when Gerrard is fired will go on until Villa are in the championship again, Purslow will give him every chance and more

Man City at Villa Park next. A big defeat could see him sacked.

Tbf Villa played well today, should have got a point.

I don’t think he will mate, they may wait for some of the easier fixtures but at this rate the club will defo be back in the championship

Gerard is out of his depth in the Premiership.

He got off to a horrible start with the Mings situation, school boy error.

His run has been deeply disappointing because the expectations were high after Rangers

Nah bro, no chance Villa can be relegated. This PL season is very competitive, Villa have enough quality to survive.

I would stuck with Dean Smith personally as Gerrard is on a training camp at Villa.

Aston Villa have agreed a £13m deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Leander Dendoncker.

The Belgian, 27, is surplus to Wolves' requirements and Villa manager Steven Gerrard is keen to strengthen his squad after a poor start to the season.

A move is unrelated to the future of Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz, who is attracting interest from Arsenal but Villa are adamant is not for sale.
