Why did he drop Colo? Has be been that bad?

Last year rumours of Barca putting in a 22 million bid on the lad and now he is relegated to Newcastle's bench!

Yes - he has been awful.

Which is a shame cos he is talented, is quick and strong BUT like Bramble his decision making is RUBBISH - he holds onto the ball too long, slides in way too early and when he is in a good defensive position decides to spin around

We were doing well against Chelsea until his schoolboy mistake - infact thats an insult to schoolboys

We cant afford to be patient with him right now, its about survival and dropping him was the right decision. In Bassong, S. Taylor, Beye and Edgar we should be okay for Centre Back

I watched the Stoke game on MOTD and couldnt believe what a poor side Newcastle are. So many mediocre, frankly rubbish and over the hill players.

Its going to take a miracle from Shearer to keep them up with that squad. Just goes to show what a mess some of the previous managers have done to bring in that rubbish.

I expected a lot better against Stoke, even with the injuries and stokes home form, but I suppose 1 point is better than nothing.

I still don't think we'll go down, if the Shearer effect can't save us, nothing can!

MASSIVE game tonight at home to Pompey

Its simply a MUST win if we want to have a chance of staying in the Premierleague

Im quietly confident we can beat Pompey BUT it depends on what side Shearer sends out - I havnt been too impressed with him tactically so far BUT he has atleast been willing to make changes if it hasnt been going well.

Its important we start the game at a high tempo and attack Pompey, sitting back is asking for trouble cos our defence is garbage and cant cope with constant pressure.

The atmosphere should be cracking aswell (unfortunately i cudnt go) and this should give the players a lift

HOWAY THE LADS

GA, I think you lot are going down.

All 3 strikers lacked match fitness and sharpness and werent that great. Smith was good in the first half but then disappeared. Guthrie was awful, Butt was very good and I thought Bassong was very good.

I did say it was a MUST win and we failed to win - no doubt about it, we are going down. If we could have won our home games then we could have survived BUT we cant even win at home

Bassong and Beye aside, the rest are/were rubbish. Not sure what game you was watching BUT Butt was pretty average, defensively he put in some good tackles BUT his passing is shocking - he seems to think he is Zidane when it comes to passing BUT the actual truth is he is more like Lily Savage

Nah I thought Butt did a very good job in the 70 mins he was on the field. His role is a ballwinner and then to play the easy pass and let others like Guthrie etc to play the difficult passes. I thought Butt won more than his fair share of tackles, but was let down by the more creative players in the side.

No idea what Guttierez was doing when he came on - just had his head down and running nowhere with the ball.

Who was Liverpool's last appointment? Dalglish was it ? :P :P No sentimentality there I am sure :) And all the 18-5 talk is just fantasy.

papers reporting that Shearer wants to stay on as manager regardless of what division we are in - lets hope that is true because the thought of Joe Kinnear coming back is just :( :(

No Offence Geordie, Shearer looks clueless as a manager. Not sure why you guys want him to be....atleast Kineaar got some experience and he wont do that bad in Championship.

errrr no way - Kinnear is clueless, i could do a better job than him (im deadly serious) He is a joke, not worthy of being called a manager.

Its way too early to judge Shearer as a manager (only had 5 games with us) BUT the signs are good - its not his fault we have too many cr@p players.

an insider obviously leaked the barton-shearer set to

i'm wondering if all is well in the dressing room between the players and shearer?

probably not BUT thats not a bad thing - its a good thing because it tells you who is willing to graft and play for the club and who is taking the p

im hearing that the club is far better organised and managed now under Shearer (tho a lot of credit goes to Dowie for this) compared to Kinnear who was like a headless chicken

Might aswell mention it in this thread since its kinda related to newcastle

Gateshead won their playoff final today 1-0, which means they have been promoted to the Conference - congrats to them :14: :14:

I wasn't sure of Shearer's managerial credentials but was glad when he took the job cos I thought the 'honeymoon effect' would get us through this season (still waiting for it to start!) and then I was hoping Keegan would be back next season :)

I thought it would be better for Shearer to get experience at other clubs and then manage Newcastle in he future but as Geordie said, he seems to be doing a good job of organising the club.

We were a little lucky but hey, everyone needs a bit of luck to win matches & we were long overdue some! And the last 2 finishes were good, only saw taylors brielfly.

Would love to beat fulham now!

Big win GA, mubarak.

Watched the game, it was a good one. I thought Viduka was immense, he held the ball up magnificently and was generally a factor throughout. You guys missed him during the season.

Yeah Viduka was excellent - he holds the ball up superbly and if he was fit throughout the season i doubt we would be in a relegation scrap. Its so tought to get the ball of him and he has very quick feet for a big lad

His contract runs out and is unlikely to be offered an extension (plus i think he wants to go back home) BUT he has given us a great chance of staying up

Sorry if I have posted this before but whats the difference between Shearer and Newcastle?

Shearer will be on MOTD next year :P

Sorry Geordie!

I cant believe that Newcastle could be playing Championship football next season it defies belief and if someone would have suggested this to me at the start of the season I would have laughed at them.

Boardroom strife more often than not affects the players and thats whats happened at St James Park.

a lot of people would be quids in should newcastle go down.. sad thing is if they go down they will not come up any time soon as their financial situation would worsen considerably as should be expected

Indeed - we had KK in charge and things were looking up.

Its just crazy how low we have dropped under Mike Ashley - the guy has single handedly gotten us relegated, something the buffoon Shepherd never did and to be fair to him never got us even close to being relegated.

I would gladly take Shepherd back - for all his problems (of which he has many) his heart was in the right place, he loved the club and ultimately wanted us to win things.

Mike Ashley has turned out to be a devious, scumbag who has wrecked this club in a short amount of time.

Going in the Championship does not scare or totally concern me - more worrying is the thought of being stuck with Fat Mike

Newcastle fans believe too much in their supposed history, it is only history in their own heads.

The prostating themselves to the latest Messiah be it Keegan, Ashley or Shearer is just so pathetic.

I and many other football fans will be rejoicing when they are relegated to where they belong.

So funny how Alex Ferguson who hates Newcastle and Shearer like most football fans will play a reserve team against Hull thus ensuring Newcastle relegation.

Your post is full of BS and is typical of the media BS slurper that has no idea

You have NO IDEA what newcastle fans think or believe so stop trying to pretend as much - we are well aware of the status of our clubs and we are comfortable with it.

Also the MESSIAH term was started by the Media NOT by Newcastle fans so thats another piece of media BS that you and many others have lapped up

As for other football fans rejoicing - well we cudnt give a flying eff what you or anyone else thinks about our club cos we dont support them to gain approval from the southern mongs.

Alex Ferguson hates newcastle? Actually you cudnt be further from the truth - Ferguson actually respects newcastle and loves the passion we have for the game. Im pretty certain that Ferguson would like us to stay in the Premiership - the reason he will play a 'reserve team' is to protect his own interests and thats fair enough

The premiership will be poorer without us, just as it is without the likes of Forest, Leeds etc etc - only an idiot would suggest that the likes of Wigan etc are preffered

N.B - i find it funny how loads and loads of people love taking a dig at us and dismissing us as a big club BUT they still love talking about us - if we are so insignificant then surely we are not worth talking about.

GA, I think your time is almost up in the premiership for now which is ****ing unbelievable.. just think about it when you guys sacked bobby robson and Sheperd restricted the hiring to british manager your dowslide started.. bloody hell, ill miss nights out in newcastle for atleast a year.. It would be bloody wierd without you lot in it.. I think Leeds and Newcastle are prem clubs so for them to be going down shows big clubs mean nowt in real terms.. I think the future is really bleak as Championship is a tough league and youd be without a lot of players.. I bet the muppet ashley would be crying in his pint for a bad investment

Its just crazy how fast we have fallen - with Leeds you could understand why it happened, they spent a lot of money which they didnt have BUT we just have been messed up by Ashley BIG TIME

Sacking Bobby Robson was a disgrace BUT if Shepherd was still here then i have no doubt we wudnt be in this mess - granted we would still be mid-table mediocrity BUT he would have atleast backed the manager. Ashley has made a profit in each of the transfer windows - thats UNACCEPTABLE

The Championship will be tough BUT if we plan it right we can come back up (perhaps not straightaway) BUT the worrying thing is not knowing what Ashley's intention is. He aint going to make a profit on us, NO WAY - the value of the club has plummeted in the credit crunch and will plummet further when we are relegated.

Shepherd imo would made us into a Leeds - if he was still around in the credit crunch era he wouldn't be able to get the money from the banks- reality is that Shepherd was buying players on credit rather than any profit we were making cos that was all going into his pockets (as shareholders). I am no fan on Ashley but he has paid off the debt and club are breaking even - even if he made a profit in the transfer windows which compared to our debt was only like a 10th of it is.

I have not really commented about our plight this season - maybe still depressed thjat Keegan got shafted and also didn't stick it out just as the credit crunch was hitting as it might of dawned on him - that Ashley wasn't mr moneybags!

Newcastle fans compared to the rest of the country have a very reasonable season ticket prices (although not what we get to see) - what we make in numbers other just increase the season ticket price to close or widen the gap - ie. the spuds!

Yes if we got relegated BUT that wudnt have happened under him cos he backed the managers with money - the reason we are in this mess is because we have been thrifty in the transfer market, we have sold players like Milner, N'Zogbia and replaced them with junk - junk who have made us much weaker

Also im not so sure Ashley has paid the debt off - there is no way he is gonna forget about that money, he factored it into his asking price and will undoubtedly want his money back. Im concerned as to how far he would sink to get it back, would he sell the training ground, the stadium etc etc

Whether we go up or down - the more important thing is the manager for next season, if its Shearer then i reckon the fans will stick with the team BUT anyone like Kinnear and SJP will be empty

Down after 16 years in the Premiership - just feel weird right now, hasnt really sunk in. Keep thinking how Ashley has effed us over BIG TIME :po:

Shocked ! I wasnt expecting Newcastle to go down today. I thought that one of their high paid superstars would turn in a performance today but alas it wasnt to be.

Tough times ahead for NUFC and their fans.

I was around 5 so dont remember it

True i think we accepted a while ago that we were going down - its one thing having a rubbish team BUT for large parts of the season we had no management (Kinnear was just a puppet)

I think the January transfer window summed it up - we made a profit in the window whilst the likes of Stoke were spending money, thats where we lost it

Looking at Shearer's body language - and the way he's reacted after their relegation, I think he will be staying on as manager.

Does he always want to be associated as the man who took them down?

Im not cos as long as Ashley is in charge its same crap different division

As for keeping players, there are some that i would keep or atleast try to keep

S. Taylor
R. Taylor
Bassong
Beye
Enrique
Jonas
Guthrie
Carroll

and i would keep the youngsters and start to bring them into the team (Lua Lua, Kadar, Ranger etc etc)

Thats just nonsense and it makes a good story

Sam Allardyce deserved to get sacked for a number of reasons - we were heading down under him, we were playing rubbish football and we were losing BUT fortunately KK turned things around for us then

Not true - he is a class keeper and much better than Harper BUT its the outfield players that were garbage

Things could have been different if we kept N'Zogbia and Milner

I agree with that, our defence was rubbish but scoring goals would've made a lot of difference.

I still can't believe we got relegated; right up until Sunday, I didn't think it was going to happen.

I think he'll stay on as well, although I'd prefer him to stay on as no.2 with KK as manager.

It wasn't his fault, he did his best with the rubbish (and a few hard working souls) that were available. The likes of Owen etc who seem to have forgotten how to score a goal are more to blame.

from icnewcastle.co.uk
HABIB BEYE has pledged his future to Newcastle United despite the nightmare of relegation to the Championship.

The Chronicle can reveal that Beye, who has one year left on his current deal, wants to nail his colours to the Toon mast and finish his career on Tyneside.

And he believes the Magpies now have a major responsibility to get back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

With Michael Owen’s future uncertain, Beye would be a candidate for club captain after doing an excellent job in that role with Marseille earlier in his career.

The African missed the final-day showdown at Aston Villa through a hamstring injury.

But he added that United’s relegation has only intensified his affection for the black-and-whites after 3,000 fans backed their team before, during and after the final fatal blow to the club’s top-flight status.

Beye told the Chronicle: “The players who will be here next year must put this club back in the Premier League.

“I’m in – I’m a Newcastle player.

“I’m sad like everyone else.

“I’m under contract, and I will be here next year to put this club back in the Premier League.

“I have played for Newcastle for two years, and I love this club.”

The long post-mortem for the Magpies has already started after losing their Premier League status after 16 years.

But a choked Beye says that, internally, the club must take the hit as one. He added:

“Everyone is responsible for this situation. Every player is responsible.

“I think everybody must understand it’s not just about 11 players, or 18 players.

“It’s about a city and the fans, and a lot of people who work at this club.

“It’s hard to think about.”

And he admits that whether the Toon stars like it or not they must knuckle down and get on with life in the Championship.

He added: “Newcastle is a massive club, and what can I say? We’re really, really sad. We must look forward, and if this club is in this position, it’s for some reason.”

Get in Habib Beye - what a legend. Should be made captain for next season

I guess there are some 'loyal' footballers out there

how much money is he on.. Alan Smith on 60k a week was the most shocking thing ive heard for a while

Not too sure - we hear its less than 50K

The smith signing along with Barton was thanks to genius Sam - Alan Smith isnt even worth £10 a week so to give him 60K is just plain mental - oh and Cacapa is supposedly gets over 50K :69: :69:

Our wage bill will go down signifcantly when the following players go

Owen - 100K plus
Viduka - 60K
Smith - 60K
Barton - 60K
Geremi - 60K
Cacapa - 60K
Coloccini - 60K
Butt - 50K plus
Xisco - too much
Nolan - unsure BUT im hearing its close to 50K

Viduka, Owen and Cacapa are out of contract so thats not an issue BUT we are going to have to get rid of the other players - doesnt matter how much we get for them, just get them off the wage bill

and they say in the media Allardyce would have had a wry smile and is a good manager..yeah your wage bill will go down but its still a lot.. any players over 30k(target wages of 30k a week) is just unacceptable as would mean a wage bill of almost 30 million(if you have a 18 man squad) which is unsustainable in the championship.. Hulls wage bill is something like 7-8 million so it shows how far newcastle is.. I have a feeling most of these players would not want to go and just like leeds newcastle would have to pay them a percentage to get off the wage bill

Well we can have a few players at 30K because they will be surrounded (or rather should be) by players on far less money like Carroll, Lua Lua, Ranger etc etc

Ashley says sorry

from nufc.com

Statement issued by the owner on Tuesday:
"Seeing Newcastle United relegated from the Premier League has been a catastrophe for us all.

"I fully accept that mistakes were made during this and previous seasons and I am very sorry for that.

"I would like to say sorry to our magnificent supporters who have turned up in their thousands, home and away, up and down the country and who have given the team amazing backing throughout.

"And I would also say sorry to all of the Club's hard -working staff, who have gone about their jobs all year long.

"Bringing Alan Shearer back to Newcastle United was the best decision I have made. Alan and his staff did all they could to try and keep us up in the short space of time they had.

"Talks are now ongoing between us about how we can take this Club forward again."

Talk is cheap - we dont trust Ashley and his apology is a token gesture UNLESS he does something with substance. He needs to make Shearer the permanent boss and give him 100% control and give him some money to spend. Until then he can shove his apology where the sun doesnt shine

:))) :))) :))) :)))

Thats pretty funny and very close to the truth - except Newcastle United is not dead - HOWAY THE LADS :) :)

Wow, never thought that Newcastle would be relegated; always thought that they would conjure up a win somehow and stay up but not to be. Can't get my head around how poor they were against us... I mean they have been given a lifeline but even in the last half hour there was nothing. You'd expect a team to be banging on the door, trying desperately to salvage something but they were flat and shows up their squad.

The club can now go two ways, they can either dump all the has beens / players on big wages and start to rebuild with Shearer as manager with a long term plan. If this happens relegation could be a blessing in disguise for them. Or it could go the other way and the championship is a tough division to get out of.

Oh well at least it will be interesting.
