It wudnt be the first time a mackem has lived in newcastle, the likes of Arca when playing for the mackems lived in newcastle - Also the ex-smoggie player Nemeth said that when he had relatives from abroad visit he used to take them around Newcastle cos he was too embarassed of Middlesbrough :))) :))) :)))

lol well i want to see geordies ahmeds reaction if he does sign for newcastle.

owen being linked with man city and martins is also being tipped to be leaving the toon

Why would Owen leave Newcastle to go to Man City. That would make no sense at all. Id imagine Newcastle would rather Martins stay than Owen if it came down to that though

because of owens relationship with sven. also the buyer is promising big signings

Stop blaspheming, that better not happen.

Yep, Martins has commited to us earlier in the week. He seems more loyal so I'd pick him over Owen, who's likely leave in the next couple of seasons anyway if not in the next couple of months.

This is ridiculous. Smith cant possibly worth that little. Hes a fine player and still relatively young. Big Sam will have a quite a team next year if he can keep them together. Emre, Martins and Owen are all real top players but I suspect at least one of these wont be at St James Park next season.

you imagine right - Martins has become a fans favourite, plus a lot of fans are peeved at Owen's lack of comments regarding his situation at the club, he is blatantly trying to keep everyone sweet so that whether he moves or not it doesnt make him look bad - well id rather we got shot of him and buy someone like Anelka

ofcourse he can - during his time at Man-u he has done nowt therefore it makes sense his value will go down. Its partly due to injuries and partly fergies fault for thinking he can turn him into a Roy Keane

He is an average player now and id be gutted if we signed him

David Rozehnal's agent has claimed that an agreement is in place to take the Paris Saint Germain defender to Newcastle.

The Magpies have been in negotiations with PSG in recent weeks, with manager Sam Allardyce keen to strengthen his defence before the start of the new season.

Reports suggested they were firm favourites to land the Czech Republic international, especially after Borussia Dortmund withdrew their interest.

Rozehnal's representative Pavel Zika announced earlier on Friday that Newcastle had a 50-50 chance of snapping up the player, with Sevilla the other club in the running.

But Zika has now told the Czech Republic media that Newcastle have won the race to sign Rozehnal.

"We have reached a final agreement. David moves to Newcastle," Zika told Idnes.

Although Alardyce has made it known he is keen on Rozehnal, there has been no announcement from Newcastle suggesting they are closer to bringing in the player

Never seen him play BUT hopefully he is good.

OK hes no world beater but hes done it in the Premier League and hes an excellent support striker. I actually think him partnering Owen or Martins would be better then an Owen/Martins partnership. Could do a Kevin davies role for Big Sam.

Saudi, with our current strikers, smith would be fourth in line after martins, owen & viduka.

But I would think Martins will move to Arsenal. You'd have a decent profit and as I said I dont think a Martins/Owen can work especially if we see Big Sams old tactics being emplyed.

she also mentioned we have Viduka, he will be playing the target man role. Shola Ameobi will be the backup for the target man role and after that we have young Andy Carroll so signing Smith would be a waste of money and a hindrance to the progress of Carroll

If Martins was to leave then id want us to sign Anelka or a goalscoring striker - Smith is not a goalscorer

he would actually be 5th after Shola - infact id make him 6th after Andy Carroll

not deluded at all

They have a similar goalscoring record, infact Shola may well be a bit more prolific. Also last couple of seasons Shola has gotten stronger so he is a far better target man that Smith

I never said Carroll was better, i simply stated i dont want his progress hindered

take in to account that smith has mainly played for man utd in midfield it would be shocking if Shola did not have better scoring record.

is carrol the next " shearer "

well even his goalscoring record at Leeds where he played as a striker isnt all that, its similar to Shola's record

nope, different stye of player - he isnt the next anyone really, just a young lad who deserves an opportunity

I dont really want Smith.

I also think Nugent isn't all that as a goalscorer. His goalscoring is at championship level should be like 20 goals minimum and he scored like 15 odd.

Geordie - I've realised the best way for Newcastle to do well next season. Remember last season, just before your run of 3 consecutive wins, you said you'd give PP 3 quid for every point they gain for the next 3 matches. So instead of getting a season ticket, just announce you'll be giving to a charity or something before every set of 3 games. Will be money well spent!

From The Sun

Freddy's staying!

Freddy Shepherd is staying on as Newcastle United chairman - at Toon billionaire Mike Ashley's request.

00073296-53FE-13E3-AF290C01AC1BF814.jpg

The Sunday Sun can confirm Shepherd will be the only survivor of a United board meeting at St James's Park tomorrow.

All other directors of the club, including Douglas Hall, have agreed to stand down and be replaced by Ashley-appointed business experts.

And we can also reveal that Shepherd volunteered to join the exodus . . . only for Ashley to persuade him to remain on board.

Shepherd - who sold his stake in United to Ashley for £37.6 million earlier this month, will return to his chairman's duties when he completes his recovery from pneumonia and a collapsed lung in early July.

"Mike Ashley and his team want Freddy Shepherd to stay, and he is staying," a Newcastle source told the Sunday Sun.

"There is a board meeting on Monday - probably at St James's Park - where the board, excluding Freddy Shepherd, will step down and the new board will be appointed.

"Ashley won't be there, but everything is agreed. Four directors will resign after being told by him that he wanted to bring in his own team."

The source added: "Freddy Shepherd felt it might be the appropriate time to end his 16-year association with the club, what with his brother Bruce and friend Douglas Hall both resigning, and his recent illness.

"But Ashley felt that Shepherd's experience and knowledge of the club was indispensable as it enters a period of transition.

"Every business needs continuity, and Shepherd is the man who has a strong personal relationship with the club's sponsors and backers - and therefore their loyalty - as well as contacts within football itself.

"Shepherd is now looking forward to working with the new owner and is optimistic that Ashley can move Newcastle forward."

Quitting the Newcastle board tomorrow will be executive director Douglas Hall, his sister Allison Antonopoulos, fellow non-executive director Timothy Revill and Shepherd's brother, Bruce.

Their resignations come with Ashley now owning around 80 per cent of United shares and having until 1pm on Thursday to boost his stake to more than 90 per cent and take the club into private ownership.

I obviously want the fat gitt to leave asap BUT i can see the need for him staying on for a bit longer, aslong as he doesnt deal with the contracts of players its all good

Hmm I heard today that Nigerian police claim that Obafemi was making up his story of his assault.

On a separate note how many strikers does Big Sam need? Surely he has to concentrate on the defence now because they've got a very decent team otherwise.

Well we have 4 strikers (Owen, Martins, Viduka and Shola) plus 1 youngster (Carroll, tho he may well go on loan) - that is it in terms of strikers UNLESS Owen and/or Martins leave, in which case they will obviously have to be replaced.

Big Sam is aware the defence needs sorting out, he has targeted 2 Centre Backs, a Left Back and possibly a Right Back. The David Rozehnal signing should be complete in the next few days

I have said it before and i say it again.. we have been where we have been cos we have lack of strikers at the club..

under robson..there was at one time...

shola, shearer, kluivert, bellamy and chopra.

last season we had ONLY martins all season round in the first team squad of quality.

shola, and owen were unfit.

Rossi left halfway( mostly on bench).. and Carroll was breaking through ..although rushed rather than controlled because lack of strikers.

I f you look at other clubs in the league...they will have a minimum 4 strikers in their squad.

arsenal declared 8 strikers/forwards...
man utd 6/7 strikers/forwards.

we would of spent a net £1.8m on 4 players if deal goes through..

+ the £50m alledged in the kitty still to spend.

Beye is also on hitlist..and reports say we have been given permission to speak to him.

Martins could be on his way to Arsenal

Sam Allardyce is hoping to convince Obafemi Martins to stay at Newcastle.

The Nigerian has a £13million get-out clause in his contract and has been linked with Arsenal following the sale of Thierry Henry to Barcelona.

With speculation also rife about Michael Owen's future on Tyneside, Allardyce plans to sit down with Martins next week and outline his ambitious vision for The Magpies.

He told Sky Sports News: "All I can say from the club's point of view and mine is that it is only speculation because we have had no official contact from anybody at Arsenal at the moment.

"Everybody knows about the clause situation he has - that leaves us in a very poor position as a football club.

"We are left in a very precarious position regarding that. All the speculation that is flying around is difficult to cope with, but it is something we will have to try to find out over the next few days.

"When Oba comes back, we will sit down and say, 'What exactly is the situation?' and if he has any problems, try to resolve them and hopefully persuade him Newcastle is the place for him next season."

Allardyce has no such plans to meet with Owen, as he is confident of keeping the England striker.

"I don't think there is any need to speak to Michael - that was all covered weeks and weeks ago, as far as I was concerned.

"There has been no speculation regarding Michael since then. Now it has moved on to Oba and when that sort of clause is inserted in a contract, those are the sort of players that bring up more speculation than everybody else."

http://msnsport.skysports.com/list....&clid=4&lid=&title=Big+Sam+fears+Martins+exit

I really hope this isn't true, I thought it would be a bigger problem convincing Owen to stay.

It really will be a massive blow if we lose both of them.

From Newcastle Evening Chronicle

Big Sam wants an Ed boy

NEWCASTLE United have made an ambitious move for Barcelona’s Brazilian defender Edmilson.

That was the word from Spain today – and it’s great news for United fans as Sam Allardyce continues to try to bring new players into St James’ Park, where things are really hotting up both on and off the field.

If Allardyce can pull off the signing of the 30-year-old Brazilian, it will certainly be a feather in the cap of the new United boss.

Edmilson, whose full name is Jose Edmilson Gomes de Moraes, is a free agent, with his contract at the Nou Camp expiring at midnight on Saturday.

And he looks to be the ideal man for United, as he can play both at centre-half and as a defensive midfielder.

Although he was born in Taquaritinga, in Brazil, he has an Italian passport, and this allows him to play as a European player.

His previous clubs are Sao Paulo and Lyon before he moved to Barcelona for £7m.

Since switching to Europe, Edmilson has won a domestic championship in each of his first six seasons – four with Lyon and two with Barcelona.

But Barcelona, of course, were pipped by their great rivals Real Madrid for La Liga a fortnight ago.

Edmilson won his first cap for Brazil in 2000 and was in the side which won the World Cup two years later in Japan and South Korea, but was forced to withdraw from the 2006 competition in Germany because of a knee injury.

Geordie-born Newcastle fan Oliver Fowler is based in Barcelona, and he told me today: “It would be wrong to say that Edmilson going to Newcastle is the talk of the place, because there is only one subject of conservation over here these days – and that is Thierry Henry.

“But it is common knowledge that Edmilson is leaving the Nou Camp, and Newcastle are one of many clubs, both in Europe and South America, who are interested in signing him.

“And as a United supporter, I would love to see him end up at St James’ Park, because he is just what we need.”

Edmilson is not in the Brazil squad which is currently playing in the Copa America in Venezuela, and if he does join United he will be the third Brazilian to come to St James’, following in the footsteps of Mirandinha and Fumaca.

Because Edmilson is a free agent, United do not necessarily have to talk to Barcelona, but if they do I wonder if there is any mileage trying to off-load Albert Luque on to them.

Luque is from Barcelona and would love the chance to play at the Nou Camp.

And the signing of Henry has put a question mark over Eidur Gudjohnsen, who has been a United target in the past.

This would be an excellent signing if we can pull it off - im a big fan of Edmilson and he would do a top job for us. C'mon Big Sam make it happen :19:

i wouldnt comment on him if i havent seen him play. my honest opinion of him is that he is clumsy and too casual. i aint just saying it to piiiss off the likes of WIY but im saying it because it is my opinion.

Comparing a defender to a winger in fletcher shows how much you know about him or football in fact. Ive never really seen him properly, WIY is he any good?

How about the new defender rozenhal? Is he any good?

Fletchers not a winger he's a central midfielder, but Edmilson is similar to OShea as in the position he plays in. Haven't seen him play much only remember the goal in 02 World Cup.

not really - O'Shea is a right back or left back whereas Edmilson is a centre back or a defensive midfielder, and a good one at that

I have seen him play a few times and he is a good player, would be an awesome signing for us BUT its unlikely to happen - obviously WIY has seen more of him so he is in a better position to comment on him.

I havnt seen Rozehnal play, i dont know anyone that has either - he was in the french league team of the season last year, not that it means he is class or anything BUT its a positive nonetheless.

Yeah but having seen OShea play in those positions you can tell how out of position he was, he plays best in the centre. The most 'skillful' thing he has done is a step over.

Well he's better than Bramble so the defense should be A LOT tighter this year. If Newcastle can buy a couple of players to boost the squad depth they could be in business.

O'Shea is average in centre back

Manchester United are set to offer £4million plus Alan Smith for Owen, while Arsenal have already lined up a £13m bid for Martins.

Well he is an average player. He is stop gap player, who is neither nor there so plays in pretty much any defensive position. The only way he can become half decent is to be played in the same position week in week out.

bramble wasnt bad or even the main culprit (dont believe everything you read!) what was wrong with newcastle was that we struggled to score goals ( worst season ever for us) and we had different defense practically every match.

we didnt have fit fullbacks for 2/3s of the season...

not even terry could of fixed our breach last season.

:O :O That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! Smith could never replace a player of Owen's calibre.

And to whoever said we'd be getting a decent profit from selling Martins, we're not exactly short on cash and even if we were I'd rather have Martins!

Rozehnal signing confirmed, which is good.

So we have made 3 signings now, still need to make atleast another 3, maybe more depending on the striker situation

I really envy that Rozehnal signing. Always been a fan of his and Newcastle have got him at a decent price. The toon needed a high quality defender and they've got one.

Sam Allardyce has been fretting about the release clauses his two main strikers have. £13m for Martins and £9m for Owen. They’re not very good at this negotiating contracts thing up there, are they? This morning’s Sun says United are after Michael Owen which might mean their interesting in Nicholas Anelka has cooled.
