Rozehnal signing confirmed, which is good.

So we have made 3 signings now, still need to make atleast another 3, maybe more depending on the striker situation

good.

was PSG player of the yr.

But have no opinion on him as never seen him play.

PSG finished 15th...which could mean either a toothless attack or woeful defense...

he made it in the Ligue 1 team of the season aswell - which either means there are some absolute rubbish defenders in the french league or he played brilliantly

good team if they remain fit. edmilson is crap though. apart from that, seems good. world class keeper, two good centre backs, volatile midfield but in terms of ability barton and emre are decent. two international wingers who if they remain fit, will cause all sorts of problems to full backs. To top it off one of the most underated strikers in the premiersip. he will bang the goals in.

C'mon hasbeen he's not crap.

Should Owen be in the place of Viduka though?

That would be assuming both Martins and Owen leave but at the same time they seem to be trying to line up Gudjohnsen. I'd say Milner would definetely get more games than Dyer - if only cause of his superior fitness. Also, wouldnt Emre play further up the pitch than Barton?

you will find out if he is crap or not. i admit he is better at def mid than as a centre back.

if owen or martins stay, i would play 4-4-2 with viduka and owen or martins.

if that is our team for next season i will cry

A major problem over the past couple of years for us has been the full backs and the problems will continue if those 2 remain as 1st choice. Im hoping its more like this

Geremi--Taylor--Rozehnal--?????

The full backs are rubbsih so the toon will always conceed, might as well try and score a few.

they are indeed rubbish and have been a major reason for our poor defence in recent years BUT hopefully that will be rectified in the coming weeks

Sky Sports News understands Newcastle have opened talks with Geremi.

Sam Allardyce confirmed his interest in the Chelsea utility man earlier this week and said he was looking to push through a deal as quickly as possible.

Chelsea are now understood to have given The Magpies permission to speak to Geremi and the Cameroonian has travelled to St James' Park for talks.

Geremi has been at Chelsea since 2003 and has made some useful contributions even if he has not established himself as a regular starter.

He can operate in midfield or at right-back and his versatility is sure to appeal to Allardyce.

If Geremi joins he will become Allardyce's fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and David Rozehnal.

Barcelona's Edmilson has also been linked with a move to Newcastle.

Hopefully we can get him signed asap. A good player he is, who is more than handy going forward.

followed probably by either Edmilson or Beye

Toon clinch Geremi signing
Jul 2 2007
by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

NEWCASTLE United have clinched the signing of Cameroon star Geremi from Chelsea.

The player has passed a medical and will join felllow new boys Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and David Rozehnal at St James' Park next season.

For more details see tonight's Chronicle

Will wait for the official site for confirmation BUT it seems like its done, which is excellent. A quality right back he is and for £2mill its a good deal

interested to see that too.

Rozehnal :

"Of course I am still dreaming [of Spain]. I have always dreamed of Spain and that will not fade away quickly.

"Anyway, what I have managed to see in England so far, I can say that I would not mind if I stayed here for a couple of years."

well buddy, if you dont shape up...you may leave sooner!

£2mil, I thought geremi was free?

However, United’s hopes of signing Brazilian defender Edmilson from Barcelona have been hit by the player’s wage demands of more than £100,000 a week.

From the journal :O How much is he getting at barca?

Thats what i thought aswell BUT he has 1 year left on his contract. £2mill is a good deal

I read in some paper the other day he gets £80,000 and thats what he would want here - dont know what to believe

Seems a bit too much for edmilson but I have never seen him properly.

Yeah it is a bargain at £2mil but I thought his contract expired this summer. The team is starting to shape up well, looking forward to next season.

The rumours of sol cambell have gone cold in recent weeks, I hope we are still going to sign him.

doubt the Campbell signing will be happening anymore - i think he wants Habib Beye who can play both at right back and centre back (right back i9s his best position)

yeah its slowly starting to take shape and its looking like a handy squad now. I think the midfield could perhaps do with an addition (a versatile player) BUT the main thing is we steer clear from injuries cos that has rocked our squad badly the last couple of seasons (mainly last year).

I think we will have less injuries with all the fancy backroom staff allardyce is bringing in. With the reported transfer kitty we have, I hope we have a big signing this summer.

Ashame about cambell, would have give us the experience we need at the back. Theres still hope though, I think it still might happen because his girl I think is from around newcastle.

Yeah his girlfriend is from newcastle and he would have been the perfect partner for Steven Taylor, tho id be surprised if it happened.

Im not too sure we will spend that much money. Once the Geremi deal is complete we will need a left back, a centre back and perhaps a defensive mid. These are the players linked

Left Back = Wayne Bridge = £6mill
Centre Back = Beye = £2mill
Defensive Mid = Edmilson = £2mill

They are all relatively cheap. We have been linked with Eidur today, the fee being reported is a bargain £4.5mill

Yeah eidur would be good but then we would have too many strikers. Unless off course one of martins or owen is leaving.
Wayne bridge would be quality but he just signed a new 5 year deal and I have read in the papers that he thinks that he is going to be the first choice left back at stamford bridge!

Although Geremi is out of contract, it is believed that United have paid him a signing-on fee of around £2m, and he has agreed a three-year deal after passing a medical at the club’s Benton HQ.
So the £2mil was a signing on fee :O Still a good deal

arsenal just spent £16.25m on Da Silva.. Oba safe?

still 50-50..practically they have just spent the henry fee rather their summer budget.

yep went through on Friday

£2.9million - with a further £200,000 dependent on appearances

Geremi is no world beater, but he's the sort of player who will always give 100% and is versatile. A good signing for Newcastle in my opinion and Big Sam continues the revolution.

i think he needs a run of games..remember him at real madrid ..use to bomb up and down..

and how classy he was at boro.

chelsea..he is in and out..

You are right toony. Also at Chelsea, he was used at right back, then right midfield, then right back again - there was no continuity at all for him.

Im not too sure about Queudrue - at Boro he was decent both defensively and going forward BUT he was average for Fulham last season - also he has a poor disciplinary record.

Id probably want us to sign him just so we can pi55 the smoggies off further :16: :16:

Uh-oh, not another one.

Well, he'll get on with Barton...

Anyway, how old is he and how much do they want for him?

its just that he picks up plenty of yellow+red cards cos he gets stuck in, which can be a decent thing BUT also has its downside.

He is 28 - a figure hasnt been mentioned yet BUT i reckon around £2-3mill could do the trick

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is planning raids on Spain's Big Two to bring Raul and Deco to Tyneside this summer.

The News of the World says Toon's new owner plans to signal his ambition to make the club a worldwide brand by signing one of the biggest names on the planet.

A source revealed: "Now Mike has overall control of Newcastle he wants to make a statement of intent to the rest of world football.

"He wants to land a global superstar to show he means business and make everyone sit up and take notice.

"Mike hopes to move over the next few weeks as Raul and Deco face uncertain futures."

The future of Real Madrid skipper Raul has been in doubt since the sacking of boss Fabio Capello.

Portugal ace Deco wants to play in England and could be offloaded if Barca land Frank Lampard.

It is the News of the World so its likely that its garbage BUT rumours are rumours.

I know i diss Deco a lot BUT for us he would be a great signing if it somehow happened. At Barca he cant be centre of attention cos RonnyD is streets ahead of him BUT he could be the fancy man here

Raul? 5 years ago i would have said yes please BUT i wudnt want him here, he aint all that anymore. The only advantage of buying him is we will probably sell a few more shirts in spain

I don't think either would want to come to Newcastle yet, we have to win something to attract players like that. Having said that, Owen is still here....for now anyway

eto'o being linked/ rumour and deco rumour seems to be gathering pace.

Also heinze has been mentioned which would be an excellent addition!

Deco rumour has been mentioned on nufc.com which is usually very reliable and also the local paper so that seems it has some truth in it.
Eto :))) Cant see that one happening!

What newcastle should do is offer owen and martins new contracts removing the buy out clause! If they refuse then they should be sold, if they dont want to be at newcastle no one is forcing them!

Duscher the Butcher is now jetting in to meet Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce for a trial today.

If successful, it will lead to talks over a free transfer now his Deportivo deal has expired.

Allardyce looked at Duscher, 28, last year when he was Bolton boss but the move broke down.

Deportivo want to re-sign him — but the player prefers to test himself in English football.

If he signs, Duscher can expect plenty of grief up and down the country from English fans who have never forgotten him.

Meanwhile, Newcastle insist they will not accept a penny less than £13million for Obafemi Martins.

The Nigerian striker has been attracting interest from Arsenal and Juventus but neither club is prepared to pay the £13m fee which will trigger the buy-out clause in his contract.

No official bids have been made — but the interest from the Gunners is well known. Yet Allardyce has no wish to sell Martins, 22, and is not encouraging offers.

Marseille captain Habib Beye last night turned his back on a move to St James’ Park.

Toon were ready to pay £3m for the Senegal right-back, 29.

But Beye said: “I am here at Marseille. I have a year left on my contract and I will honour that.”

MICHAEL OWEN has committed his future to Newcastle.

The £16million striker is fit again after missing most of last season with a knee injury.

Owen, 27, said: “This club has so much potential - I want to help realise it.

"Everyone knows that the fans and the stadium give Newcastle the foundations to become one of the biggest clubs in the country.

“I believe these can be good times to be at Newcastle, which is why I’m more than happy to be here.

“There has been plenty of speculation about my future but I can assure Newcastle fans I didn’t start any of it.

"There was a lot of talk from other quarters and my attitude to rumour has always been to ignore it.

"I prefer to let my actions speak for themselves and I just wish there had been more opportunities to show the Newcastle fans what I am capable of.

"I am sure that is to come this season."

I cant believe NUFC didnt have a 'sell on' clause in Michael Chopras contract when they sold him to Cardiff City!

We bought him for £500,000 - sold him for ten times that - £5,000,000 - and NUFC dont get a penny!

maybe newcastle didnt rate him enough and thought he would sell for fucck all

he was out of contract and although under 23 at the time. we offered a contract so we could get a fee. Also, there was a lack of faith in his ability I believe.

although he had scored in all levels of youth football for england.

I think he made only 1 sub appearance for england u21s last 10 mins and he scored..

we cudnt have a 'sell on' clause cos like Toony mentioned he was out of contract - we only got the £500,000 cos of compensation for developing him

ah well no surprise there - Freddy Shepherd has shown he aint exactly an expert when it comes to clauses.

Anyhow i do like Chopra and would normally want him to suceed (he was a class fellow after all) BUT i hope he has a mare for the mackems :19:

We normally get screwed when we sell talented players to big clubs. Nice to know we actually have the last laugh!

What are the odds on Chopra scoring the winner v you guys :D

That would bother me if we needed the cash, suppose it would've made good business sense to have a clause that was actually in our favour!

NEWCASTLE have made a sensational enquiry about FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldinho.

The Toon asked about the Brazil star's availability during ongoing discussions with Barcelona over possible transfer targets.

But billionaire owner Mike Ashley was told the Nou Camp playmaker, 27, would cost a staggering £58million. A Magpies source said: "Mike is a billionaire but it remains to be seen whether even he would sanction a deal of that magnitude."

Ashley wants a global superstar to signal his intent after his £130m St James' takeover.

The Toon do hope to sign Manchester United's Argie defender Gabriel Heinze, 29.

Chelsea and Newcastle are eyeing Fabio Cannavaro after Bernd Schuster reportedly told the defender he was no longer needed at Real Madrid.

Real have strengthened significantly at back following the captures of Christoph Metzelder on a free from Borussia Dortmund, and Pepe from Porto for £19million.

Cannavaro did not have the sort of impact expected in his first season in Spain and Schuster is thought to have told him he can leave the Bernabeu this summer.

The 33-year-old World Cup winner has been linked with a move back to Juventus but the Italians have dismissed those claims, leading to an approach from Newcastle.

But Jose Mourinho has also been alerted to Cannavaro's availability and Chelsea are sure to have the upper hand if it comes down to a straight choice between them of the Magpies.

The Blues were thought to have finished their work in the transfer market but a free-transfer swoop for Cannavaro could prove too tempting to resist.

One helluva capture for Newcastle if they could get Cannavaro but I can't see it happening. Plus Chelsea needs a decent CB seeing what happened to this season...so they do not mind splashing cash.
