The Wrestling Discussion Thread

NXT tag teams have been hard to get over among the casual fans.

I was enjoying the viking raiders vs alpha academy feud. it was good fun.
I think if you give fans good wrestling, they will respond. RAW has given us alot of great NXT style, high work rate matches in recent months. And the crowd has almost always been hot for them. There's no excuse for not even making an effort.

Not going to say anything bad about his work in the ring. Despite some indie flashes (buckle bomb, falcon arrow), his work in the ring is crisp and the consistency and quality is never in question. But yeah I agree. When you compare him to his peers, his failure to evolve as a character really stands out. Of all the members of The Shield, Mox was the only one who got the personality and character aspect right away.
but he started getting presented as a retarded version of mankind later on.

if anything i had been enjoying his final run after returning from injury before he was made to cut that awful cancer promo and getting vaccination for some city.

a good way for this would be to put all the tag teams on Raw so there can be more dynamic match ups and feuds and give some singles guy to tag with another (Sheamus Cesaro was a big success).

SmackDown last week was fantastic. The Punk-Heyman segment was amazing. The tease was there for Punk v Roman, with Heyman on Punk's side. And needless to say, it will be incredible when it finally happens. The Drew-Punk angle which was beautifully executed too. Drew finally got some serious heat on him and then you had the debut of Jacob Fatu.

Next week gonna they are in MSG so I imagine that will be a hot episode too.

Drew vs punk fued is the best fued in last 10 years that do not have a title on line

A bit late from me, but

Really enjoyed the progression of storyline's on this week's Raw.

Really interested to see where they take Chad Gable specially with Creed Brothers linking up with him.

Bron Breakker is being built like a absolute BEAST & Liv Morgan disintegrating Judgement Day from within is must see.

Overall a good episode of Raw.

Wrestling fans have stepped in to champion WWE star Logan Paul after a snub of sorts from AEW chief Tony Khan

All Elite Wrestling’s supremo Khan came under fire in some quarters online for looking in a very different direction in naming the ‘greatest celebrity wrestler’ ever.

While Paul is riding high in rival organisation WWE and is the company’s reigning United States Champion, Khan is adamant that the lofty distinction in fact belongs to NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal.

Shaq has ties to both companies, having hosted an episode of Monday Night Raw for WWE, and appeared as an entrant in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32 where he stood toe to toe with fellow giant The Big Show.

As well as appearances for WCW and TNA Wrestling, he ventured to AEW in 2021 and teamed with Jade Cargill to defeat Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet on AEW Dynamite.

His iconic status and varied portfolio of wrestling cameos over the years makes him a firm favourite with Khan, who also holds executive roles at Fulham and Jacksonville Jaguars.

He told Sports Illustrated he’d love the opportunity to work with the 52-year-old again, revealing the lasting impression he made while with the company.

“I would love to have Shaq back in AEW any time he’s available,” he insisted.

“He’s one of the greatest basketball players of all time, and he’s extremely talented on-air in a number of roles.

“Shaq is also the greatest celebrity wrestler in wrestling history.

“What people didn’t see is what happened backstage. When he wrestled in AEW, he went around backstage and showed respect to all the wrestlers.

“He told the wrestlers, ‘I want to make you look good.’ It was unbelievable - that’s the most recognizable athlete on the planet doing that.”

Shaq’s status as a sporting icon and legend stands undisputed. Nevertheless, the suggestion he’s the greatest celebrity to ever transition into the wild world of professional wrestling did leave one or two unsettled.

For those fans, it’s Paul who stands as the finest in the ‘celebrity wrestler’ category, although it's perhaps no longer a like-for-like comparison given the 29-year-old influencer has wowed in the 13 matches he’s had since debuting in 2022 and appears on WWE programming on an almost weekly basis.

Nonetheless, Logan’s achievements in the industry arguably eclipse those of many in a similar ilk, one fan saying: “Logan Paul is the greatest celebrity turned wrestler. Technically he's not just a celebrity guest anymore.”

Another added strongly: “It’s Logan Paul and it’s not even close,” while a third said: “I don’t care for the guy personally, but Logan Paul clears him as a pro wrestler.”

After watching this week's smackdown I can easily say Paul haymen is god's gift to professional wrestling.

When roman returns the audience pop will shake the multiverse. It'll be louder than mick Foley winnings his first WWF championship Which shook the tides to WWF over wcw. It'll be louder than any stone cold pop and it might be even louder than hhh 2002 return pop.

Who would have thought this about roman reigns in 2017

Roman's return pop will be huuuuuuuuge. but a hyperbole to say it'll eclipse Austin's or Dwayne's pops. It might be at par with Undertaker's pop at Mania 20.

I doubt they can ever recreate the decibel shattering roar of the Attitude Era. Every RAW during that era was off the hook from a crowd reaction POV. But without a doubt, the pop for Roman's return will be massive.

the crowd roars from 1998-2001 were something else. it started to cool down once wcw went out of business.

Nah, attitude era pops were huge. WWE pipes in noise these days as well. Every weekly Raw or SD would have way bigger pops than today's ppv's.
The atmosphere of the attitude era can never be replicated. I started watching wrestling in 1998 and everything was magical back then

But I am not talking about the atmosphere and overall pops. I am just saying one pop. They way they are booking the Roman return I am calling this pop will rival stone cold pop.

How people want Roman back you can just see from watching last smackdown in Chicago..Cm punk was in the ring..in Chicago of all places and when bloodline came people screamed for Roman lol

Paul E is wrestling national treasure.

And I actually do agree and feel that when Reigns does return, it will be one of the greatest reactions in pro-wrestling history.

It’s not the AE era but during Daniel Bryan’s YES movement run the crowd was going bezerk and when Punk came back I’ve never heard a pop like that before in wrestling.

It’s not like Lesnar and Paul, Reigns actually treats Paul really well and there is a genuine love there, so much that weasel Paul was unwilling to betray Reigns with his life in danger.

Waste of briefcase….

Anyone else winning would’ve set up such a good continuation to their story.

I read about that lol they’ve never used the briefcase before to advance another storyline, I don’t feel it was necessary come to think of it

Gable should have won, I dont understand why they took the decision for macentire to win, I mean to set up Punk and Macentire, punk interfering in the MITB match itself would have been enough

July is such an awkward time to do the MITB match and the PPV is just a money grab, when you did it during the season finale (Wrestlemania); there’s more thought in booking the winner and more often then not, you have time plot their cash in and prepare a main event push, it doesn’t always work out and the creative have to think a bit harder and for longer, but when switched on I think there’s more scope for the MITB winner. Other plans will always get in the way around July and usually the winners often play second fiddle to other wrestlers creative, they’ve been doing the PPV for so many years and only the cash in’s / runs of Seth Rollins, Ambrose and Lesnar were justified, Ziggler’s was memorable though poorly booked; that’s a pretty shocking stat though.

It’s a bloody work the whole thing is a worked shoot and The Rock is hilarious, going all the way with the rumours and his persona eating em all up
Lol I see it as more of a PR stunt by The Rock to repair his image and by WWE to show everyone that Vince is definitely gone

The Rock is a bigger troll then Drew lol

Ah don’y you worry about, cos-play Vince (H) reminds us of that every bloody week!

Money in the Bank 2024: Results

Drew McIntyre def. “Main Event” Jey Uso, Andrade, LA Knight, Chad Gable, and Carmelo Hayes in the 2024 Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Sami Zayn (c) def. Bron Breakker to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship

Damian Priest (c) def. Seth “Freakin” Rollins and Drew McIntyre to retain the World Heavyweight Championship; Drew McIntyre cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and failed

Tiffany Stratton def. Naomi, Zoey Stark, Lyra Valkyria, Chelsea Green, and IYO SKY in the 2024 Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu) def. Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, and Undisputed WWE Champion “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes in a 6-Man Tag Team Match

He has turned into a typical fake as$ movie star. His entire public persona feels completely manufactured by Hollywood PR people. Unfortunately to see The Rock in character or on in the ring, we have to get Dwayne Johnson, the person too and all the nonsense he brings with him.

He is working all the marks though there have been a lot of meltdowns caused by the final boss

I'm not talking about him during WrestleMania. More of him in the last few years. He has an inflated sense of ego and thinks he is a huge movie star when his movies suck and are now starting to bomb at the box-office too. He apparently tried to do a big powerplay to get control in DC Films and it blew up in his face in spectacular fashion. There has been plenty of stuff in the news too about how he is on movie sets...carrying pi$s bottles and what not to save time. Not to mention the fake stuff he posts on social media like giving people expensive things and then filming it all so everyone knows what a saint he is.

This is why I like Batista and John Cena. Atleast they haven't forgotten who they are as people just because they got famous in Hollywood.

That all works well in wrestling, Cena got no respect getting naked for his masters. Though I agree Batista deserves more respect and he didn’t get that from the hipsters when he came back and wanted the creative to, though there was logic behind it

I would take the rock character. even with so much year out of wrestling he was the most entertaining part of WM season.

entertaining wresting crowd just comes naturally to him

Paul will betray Roman for Punk. And it will be amazing when it finally happens. We will finally get the Punk heel run we've wanted since he came back to wrestling. Roman will reach new heights as a babyface with this feud.

That would be great if it happens down the line and maybe a Punk WHC run with it, but not sure they will go for that unless agreed in his return contract, I doubt it

I love Gable but let's be real. He is never going to become a World Champion in WWE. LA Knight should have won. He needs a main-event push and this would have been a good way to make that happen. But at the same time, I had kinda gotten bored of someone winning and holding it for nearly a year and still not being ready.

They have been getting the MITB wrong for a number of years now. But I really do think its a question of who they are booking to win. I mean look at the guys who have won since 2020: Otis, Big E, Austin Theory, Damien Priest. I wouldn't put the belt on any of these guys in 2024, let alone the year they won the briefcase in.

Waste of briefcase….

I actually enjoyed the match itself. Some crazy, innovative spots and Andrade in particular had a really showing. But the World title match was an absolute overbooked clustf**k. The botch really killed the match for a while too.

I don't have a problem with them doing something different with the briefcase for once but the execution was just not good.

I personally dont find LA to be that entertaining tbh.

Did the Punk Drew rivalry really need the MITB be wasted on it?

Seems like Punk is having to much influence to me. Just let him come back what's the point ruining matches continuously. Doesn't add to the story apart from sparking the Seth thing to.

I mean how do you top screwing someone out of a title in front of their home crowd abroad. Like once in a life time thing and you ruin it. This wasn't needed... That was the peak

Swerve v Ospreay at Forbidden Door was amazing. Credit where credit is due, they are booking Swerve like a World Champion. And he showed with this match that he can hang with the best. Interested to see where this run goes though. I think there is still some story there with Adam Page that can be explored with the face/heel roles reversed.

they are over doing the punk-drew fued. it already is at its boiling point, there was no need for more drama. drew having a promo randomly on raw and out comes punk and they fight would have been enough to set up a match at summerslam

Bro he literally beat the living hell out of Punk in his hometown and left him for dead. The execution here could have been better, but it makes complete sense for Punk to do this to Drew. It was the most obvious and predictable thing to happen on the PPV.

yeah it makes sense, but punk already screwed drew over 2 times before. this is why I am saying over doing it. do they need more heat against each other than what they already have to have a fight to the death match

They need to keep the story going till SummerSlam and they don't have a lot of options with Punk being injured. But they definitely need to stop now and just book the match for SummerSlam.

Summerslam is going to be HOT. punk vs drew, gunther vs prist(with the potential of JD turning on prist), Whytt sick6 will do something, something might happen with gable and otis, cody vs solo with surely roman returning at the end of that match

The execution of the cash-in may have been a little lazy, but story-wise it's works perfectly. Because now McIntyre knows that he has absolutely no way of winning the WHC until he takes out Punk for good. Not even winning the MITB was enough for him to win the belt. Gives Rollins more of a reason to hate Punk too and I liked that they teased that. A feud with Punk might be the only thing that makes Seth Rollins interesting.

Punk v Drew is the only real money match here tbh. Gunther v Priest I want to see to see Gunther finally win the big one. Cody v Solo, I only want to see for Roman's return. Because this Bloodline Wolfpace stuff ain't working for me. Solo feels out of place as the leader of a group that includes Jacob Fatu, who looks far more like the big dog in that faction than Solo.

I didn't mean back stage or anything like that. I meant purely from a story line point of view. He keeps having to much say for my liking in results.

How do you think bloodline story will go down in WM?

Here is how I would have booked

Solo pinned cody so solo gets a title shot in summerslam, solo was saying roman lost the bloodline title so as the new tribal chief he gets the opportunity to win back their title

Solo loses against cody, Roman returns after the match, summerslam is done

Roman tells solo to acknowledge him, but solo says roman will have to beat him to be the tribal chief, but to get to solo roman will have to bear the bloodline 2.0 in wargames. Roman gets joined by the Usos. its still 3 vs 4, roman says I got my usos but not all usos are blood related, some are honorary. Sami comes and it becomes OG bloodline vs Bloodline 2.0

OG bloodline wins the war games and roman gets his match at summerslam vs Solo, Roman wins. in next smackdown its time for solo to return the tribal beads to roman but solo laughs, and it is revealed that solo was never the original tribal chief, all along rock was the one who was doing all these

we then go to WM for Rock vs Roman for the head of the table match

I think it makes perfect sense based on the story they've told so far.

Punk came back to WWE and said he's a different man than he was when he left. But Drew was obsessed with him and would never give him a chance. He injured Punk at the Rumble, took his Mania spot and won the title. But still couldn't stop there and had to rub it in Punk's face. It's this obsession with Punk that made Punk his sworn enemy and cost him the World title numerous times.

It works perfectly because it gives Drew motivation and depth because he can say that look CM Punk is exactly the person I said he still was. But at the same time, other people can say that maybe if you had given Punk a chance and not gotten so obsessed with him, you might be World Champion right now.

Personally, I have thought this all along. That The Rock is the one pulling the strings in the background. But I feel like they will probably reveal this waaaay down the line.

For now I think Bloodine v Bloodline Wolfpac is the match they are building towards. I think WrestleMania will probably be Roman v Solo and Cody v Rock.

H isn’t a fan of it clearly, rather then look at the business scope he is allowing the ego to get in the way. Dominik could have been an interesting choice with the right backing and presentation, has consistently maintained momentum

That will be a miracle. Punk now looks more fragile than glass

He has been through some brutal camps which have taken their toll but WWE have used him smartly, I think he should be used like Lesnar was, he has been big business without even stepping in the ring. WWE have been overly cautious with management of his injury, but that’s just a good professional organisation for you, with WWE’s support am hopeful we can get a healthy Punk for 12 months

Issue is punk looks like second away from injury in every match..even if wwe books him for 4 PLE in 12 months there will always be chance he could get injured in first 2 matches. That's the risk..how can you do long term booking with him

I don’t know how he looks like it, we tend to get the news after but the RR cameo was pretty good, and with the long term booking, I think they are expertly showing how they can achieve this with a talent that has barely stepped foot in a ring, Drew/Punk is the hottest feud in the company

Look at his aew record as well after he returned to wresling. He was out of action half the time there. Drew Vs punk is Indeed the hottest thing and the story is working great.

The other half he had a run that would rival any top name in the 21st century, part of it was mismanagement and politics, but while he was active there the matches and promo’s were some of the best I’ve ever seen, in fact he was ranked no.2 by the PWI for one of the years just behind Reigns. Not many WWE fans have seen the work he did there but if that was anything to go by I am excited for his WWE run and despite the injury, he has been entertaining so lets see

I just don't understand why they put it on guys they would never make World Champion. Dominick is not a World champion at this point of his career either. For me its getting a bit pointless though now that they've given the KOTR winner a future World title shot at SummerSlam too.

That will be a miracle. Punk now looks more fragile than glass
I don't care if he wrestles one match a year, Punk is still more interesting, compelling, real than anyone else in wrestling. Whether its in the ring, on the mic...on commentary, there is no one like Punk and never will be.

Rock Vs solo in WM. This will be the most disappointing booking in WWE history
Going by Triple H's ultra slow style of booking and the way they've told this story, that seems like the most predictable match for WrestleMania. Cody v Rock is definitely happening first because Rock pinned Cody at WrestleMania and there is still alot of story they could milk out of the Bloodline saga for Roman v Rock.

Look at his aew record as well after he returned to wresling. He was out of action half the time there. Drew Vs punk is Indeed the hottest thing and the story is working great.
At this age its hard to not get injured even if your fitness is next level. Which Punk's is. But in AEW he only really had one injury which was the triceps tear (same injury he suffered in WWE) that he picked up in the match against Moxley. The other was a freak accident that could have happened to anyone. He got overexcited to see the fans after winning the World title, jumped from the ramp and ended up breaking his foot. For a great part of his run though Punk was putting on classics on Dynamite week in and week out. After his comeback last year, he was wrestling long matches fairly regularly on Collision as well.
