The Wrestling Discussion Thread

Alot of wrestling fans scoff when they hear the name Mistico, because they associate him with his failed run in WWE as Sin Cara. What they don't know is that he is one of the biggest stars/box-office draws to ever come out of Mexico, a country where drawing money and selling out arenas actually still means something, and fans don't just spend their hard-earned money because the biggest wrestling company is in town.

I recommend everyone to watch this entrance. It's one of the most amazing things I've seen in wrestling in a long time. Also gives you an idea of how massive Mistico is in Mexico.

I think I saw a clip of MJF burying Mistico for that lol I actually have select matches from the event on my list to watch, not seen anything AEW related since Punk left, but given how terrible events are in general these days, I want to give AEW another go, will start with the PPV’s because I know the TV is just too unbearable and they are a lot more consistent with their specials. Going in blind as I’ve not followed any of the storylines really.

I feel you. I'd say check out All In next month. It's basically their WrestleMania. And then that's generally followed with All Out which tends to be good or at the very least, newsworthy :yk3

After seeing Mistico's entrance I was so pumped to see this match. And honestly I wanted to Mistico to win. But it ended up being a DQ finish. Which is fine I guess if they are planning a rematch on CMLL's anniversary show. MJF losing on a CMLL show is better for him and Mistico.

But this entrance was incredible. I think watching US wrestling makes you forget that wrestling exists in other parts of teh world too. Adn in Mexico in particular it is ingrained in their culture.

You know I do find it funny that they saved their best wrestling card of the year for the Saudi Arabia show.

Almost like they are giving a middle finger to the US fans. :wahab2

Cena looked like having fun while cutting the pipebomb. Would have been fun had he mentioned someone other than Claudio, , , maybe Mox or Bryan. Mentioning nobodies like Perry, Bucks or Page would have simply been giving them popularity.

What are your thoughts on Alberto El Patron ? He has a shady history I know, but why can’t the world forgive, there are so many others who have done far worse and still get the rub of the green from WWE. By sidelining Alberto, WWE have inadvertently created arguably one of biggest babyfaces in Mexico, did they really think Mexicans would take kindly to 4/10 woke Gringos ?

He is still under contract I believe with AAA/TKO so not sure he can jump ship to CMLL anytime soon. Bah gawd MJF vs Alberto would be a stadium match in Mexico.

I know people have wanted Cena to cut this kind of promo but it would have been too easy for him and against the purpose of his heel turn; he picked the right place, the right time and against the right opponent to shoot. Comparing the two shoots between Punk/Cena is more like an apples vs oranges thing because Cena’s entire segment was to mock & humiliate Punk. I think that when the dust settles, this turn will go down as one of the best of the 21st centuries.

In an alternate universe, Heyman would be managing LA Knight @RedwoodOriginal @Suleiman

I felt some instant chemistry between the two on SD this week; could you imagine an LA Knight in all black suit, glasses and all, heel mannerisms; he would execute H’s Evolution persona from 2000’s much better.

Bah gawd give LA the Evolution theme to; you know what @RedwoodOriginal, I would get pumped to a 7/10 to if Motorhead was doing my theme :akhtar Man H got everything didn’t he and at his best, he could still not stay with Jericho.

Keeping all the shady s**t he has done aside, I never got the hype around him. I never understood why he was pushed to the moon because I always saw him as Mexican JBL. A big part of my resentment towards him was also based on seeing guys like Punk, Bryan Ziggler not get pushed while he did.

He had a decent look, was okay in the ring but I never thought he had anything special to offer. In the space of just a few years, he became a multiple time World Champion, MITB winner, only person to ever win the 40-man Royal Rumble, US Champion.

I think he has always had a far higher ceiling in Mexico.

Yeah. Nobody would have understood anyway. It's a joke that only would have appealed to the people on the internet.

I kinda feel like LA Knight works better with the look he has. When I think about the suit look, I think of Flair. In general, a heel or a babyface World Champion who can talk articulately.

LA Knight is a man of the da people.

But yes, having Paul Heyman alongside him as his manager would be magic. Ofcourse this happens in a reality where LA Knight is pushed and treated like a star.

BTW have you seen H's latest lollipop for the fans? This feud with Rollins? As if we don't know LA is going to get pinned and lose to his blue-eyed boy.

I heard a rumour Saraya was WWE bound a while back
Could be saving her debut for their all-women PPV. Although having seen her in AEW I'm not sure how useful she is in the ring anymore. She has more upside as an on-screen personality because of her history with the other women.

Doofus doesn’t have the mental capability to do something so simple yet effective

LA knight is a gold mine still waiting to be used properly but doofus as usual not knowing how to put key in ignition.

He should’ve been heading this faction, Seth is finished. Only the normies moms in the crowd love him, they love LA Knight even more but doofus had nothing to do with him being over so he won’t do it.

Knight being the originator of this faction and going on a Cena like motivated run of acquiring the world championship by hook or by crook with his two lackeys and Heyman would’ve been gold

That evolution theme was so good, I really wish one of them in the stable kept it- wouldn’t make sense but such a waste to only be used for a few years

Is it only me or others agree than Cena's heel turn has absolutely been a disaster so far? Considering this was his last year, I feel he should have remained a face with loyalty Hustle gimmick and left with a high. Now his entire character is boring, confusing and lacks charisma. He is not versatile enough to pull off both face and heel characters.

He’s a terrific face no doubt, with my fantasy booking hat on and based on his work for TNA/NWA LA Knight can be a money tweener/heel with everything stripped down; LA was smart enough to see the E would not push him that way to the top or in Seth’s current position and carved a terrific marketable gimmick.

This is what H does, the guys we like will get fed to the stars he has been babying for the last 15 years and still can’t get them over.

I think due to your view it has been a success because the idea for his gimmick is to get heat from people like you opposed to cheered for being a great heel. This is the greatest modern heel turn of all time amongst the major draws in wrestling history in my opinion; not even Hollywood Heel Rock or The Final Boss could get this heat because the work was too good and thus was admired, Cena is getting heat from all four corners of the fanbase, shooting from the hip is too easy for him as we saw this week on Smackdown but it was appropriate due to the nature of the feud and Punk as his opponent.

Technically Tony Khan can purchase the rights to that theme it’s not WWE IP I think, he should have Ric Flair appear in AEW with it and have him go over for the world title to equal John Cena’s ‘official’ tally :yk

If not, I think it would really suit MJF; Triple B is much superior to Triple H in any form

Did she ever recover her ring pace? I didn’t really watch her but in her prime, my god, her and Emma put the women's division on the map in the WWE. Peak british strong style. Maybe it’s the injuries, and they could have her in a non in-ring role, she’d make a much better GM then the nepo queen of NXT.

Knight mocking Heyman's yooouuuuuuu was hilarious.
Heyman and Seth seems like a forced marriage.

His feud with Edge was so awful.

I do agree with you, with his early run he was pushed too hard too soon and it was one of the rare instances of Vince perhaps not quiet finding the latino draw he was looking for, but I admire the effort, because no latino has received as big a push since. But to be fair that push didn’t overstay its welcome and Punk rises to the top. When time had elapsed and he left, I actually missed his ring work, it was always so flawless and he was a believable character, always in phenomenal shape as well, I can see why they don’t want to use him the US but blacklisting him in Mexico is stupid on their part.

I don't think they can do that. He's a big star in Mexico and comes from a very prominent wrestling family. He's the nephew of Mil Mascaras, and his dad Don Caras was also a big name in Mexico's #2 promotion, the UWA during the late-70s and early-80s. At the end of the day though, if Konnan wants him, he will stay. And tbh I really don't think WWE care as long as he isn't on WWE TV in the US.

They should have just put Christian in that position with Edge at ringside as his manager. Could have been a passing of the torch. But Vince never believed in Christian

Vince was going through a bit of a crisis then and he was willing to give chances to a number of guys; Ziggler, Mark Henry, even Big Show and finally Christian; unfortunately he’s a very superstitious guy and when these blokes suffered injuries or had a shady medical background, he always ended up going back to Orton/Cena, it was actually really impressive when Bryan broke the mould; and then disaster hit when he got injured to, but Bryan always managed to get Vince to change his mind about him by challenging his authority and even became champ again after being out for so long is even more impressive. When Christian finally got his shot, I think he was past his physical peak and the bumps had taken their toll on him. But at least he got his moment even though it was too late and I never thought it would happen in the E.

Randy says his subsequent feud with Christian when the latter turned heel taught him a lot about character work and wrestling.
