Zulqarnain warns PCB of legal action

Karachi: Dubbed "weak and nervous" by a fact-finding committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board, controversial wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider is threatening to take legal action against the Board.


Excerpts from the report of the fact finding committee were carried in a Pakistani newspaper on Friday in which Zulqarnain's claim that he got death threats from a person, who wanted him to fix matches, were also disputed.



The wicketkeeper, who stunned one and all by fleeing the team hotel in Dubai hours before the start of the fifth and final one-day international against South Africa last month, said in a message on his facebook page that he was contemplating sending a legal notice to the PCB.


"By declaring me a weak and nervous person and questioning my state of find the fact finding committee has indulged in my character assassination and I reserve the right to take legal action against the board," Zulqarnain said on his page.


"I also want a copy of the report of the committee," he demanded.


The fact finding committee that included the Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam and the present chief operating officer of the board Subhan Ahmed found 'ambiguity' in the various statements the cricketer has made over the past few weeks and lso failed to reach any conclusion on the 'motives' which led to his sudden exit from the team and flight to London where he has sought asylum.


The report, according to the newspaper, also claimed that some of the support staff of the national team feel Zulqarnain is a case of complex personality and is someone who can be easily convinced into believing whatever is said to him. He is also stated to be a weak, nervous person.


But Zulqarnain refute the report's findings stating that some people, in order to save themselves, were trying to declare him a mental case.


"Are people like Rashid Latif, Sarfaraz Nawaz or Iqbal Muhammad Ali (All of whom spoke in his favor) also mentally weak people," Zulqarnain questioned.


"I am now consulting with my lawyers in the United Kingdom about sending a legal notice to the board for this one-sided report," he said.


The wicketkeeper who is residing in London on a temporary permit has remained underground for the last few days making no contact with the media as the UK home department processes his application for asylum in the UK.

Good work by the Akmal Brothers, why not make your dad the wicket keeper too (sarcasm), so you can play your brothers in the side and (in order to) threaten others. Do not let anyone else come into the side and continue to make bookings (fixing games). Kamran should open, Umar Akmal should play in the middle order and Adnan should keep. Regardless of poor performances, one Akmal will have to remain in the side in order to ensure that the games are booked (for fixing).
 
This guy is such an asshat. There's 4 -5 players working against the captain, Zoni? Then expose them you weak hearted, scarf wearing, big bird look-a-like.

Oh, the Akmals have a stranglehold on the team? Prove to me that Umar and Adnan didn't get into the team on merit.

Adnan didn't deserve to be in the team...but that doesn't change the fact that Zoni is brainless.

If he wanted to complain about the akmals and other things,he should have done it the day he left for england,when everybody were asking him the proper reason.Not good from zulqibatman here.

man. he was selfless in play. he never played for himself like mohd hafeez. if situation demanded to hit, he tried to hit without caring about his less talent. bana banaya carrer khatam kar dia. sad.
 
Now I'm getting annoyed. Who does he think he is?

I'm not the biggest Kamran fan, but the matches he has won us singlehandly are loads. The Indian one will probably be his greatest, and one of the greatest moments for Pakistani fans ever.

Umar has played a few decent knocks, and is the future of Pakistani cricket at only 20.

This guy was barely a better keeper and a very average batsmen.

The way Umar Akmal ran a well-set Hafeez out.... looks like Zoni is right. That was an awaful call by Umar Akmal.

Well the guy has to be given credit for finding a new way into the UK seeing as most of the normal immigration routes that Pakistani's use have been blocked off. I don't believe much of what he has to say. Yes he is right that there is some dirty dealing in the team, but the fact that he hasn't revealed anything other than that which is common knowledge leads me to believe that the guy know sweet fa. He's just winding people up in the PCB and other players via facebook, maybe to get a reaction from Pakistan....some nutter fans of the other players will respond via facebook and threaten Zoni......and hey presto, Zoni has his evidence of death threaths just in time for his immigration hearing. Good plan Zoni. But the British Border Agency aint as thick as you think.

Guys - just because Zoni is crass enough to make unsubstantiated and baseless allegations directed at anyone and everyone, does not mean that the good folk at PP have to stoop to his low level.

Not defending Zoni or anything but how can we trust a PCB inquiry to not implicate their own employees if there was a security failing to protect their players from such bookie approaches ?

For example,if the PCB conduct their own inquiry,they obviously won't want to implicate the security manager for not preventing any bookies from making threats ?

There should be an independent inquiry into exactly what happened.This is what Zoni should be pushing for,not making stupid statements on Facebook.

He is losing a lot of credibility that way.It also is clear that he just wants to reside in England,claim the benefits and live a cushy life there.

It is a real shame as if there was a bookie making threats,and of course it could be proven to be the case with an independent investigation,then that person could have been caught and it would have benefited cricket by rooting such corrupt individuals out.

He is actually referring to the Pakistan Team.
Our national team usually comprises of A LOT of players from NBP and SNGPL (eg Misbah, Hafeez, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Aamir, Ajmal, Butt, Adnan Akmal, Fawad, Wahab Riaz, Umar Amin, etc).

So basically he is saying that players who play for NBP and SNGPL are favoured. Does this mean all other teams should quit cricket? It is every team's right that their best performers should be given a chance to play (for Pakistan).

Yes! but then we start mourning here on PP that this player should be in the team and that player should be in the team...and all most all the players who are in the team at the moment they are more of prefered players who we have been debating about.

Please remmber its on 11 player game.
