How is Clarke still there? I thought he had returned to OZ.

1. Finch
2. Hughes
3. Marsh
4. Smith
5. Bailey*
6. Maxwell
7. Haddin+
8. Johnson
9. Starc
10. Richardson
11. Lyon

This is the 82nd ODI between these two teams, Australia won 41, South Africa won 37, Tied matches 3.

A strong rivalry. :D

Good to see the selectors come up with a proper team and end this allrounder bulldust.

The Zimbos woke them up

Duminy with the new ball. Good test for Hughes

A bit surprised by that, thought he'd gone better than that.

Averaging 20 for a #4, maybe still early days for him? :13:

If you notice he's played all his games in 2012 and earlier as a bowler who bats a bit.

He's played about two matches since his return to the test team as a vastly improved batsman.

Finch can't rotate the strike against a good fast bowler and Hughes can't rotate the strike against a spinner on a wicket with any turn.

Stats say otherwise, he averages 14.75 the last 2 years. Be it only 5 games.

If we can, we should go with a slight turner for our WC match against Aus.

Hughes should be a South Africa specialist

The Problem with OZ is their Bowling lineup, I can't see any decent spinner or a fast bowler except maybe Johnson but he gets neutralized on slow pitches like these, need to come up with maybe 2 or even 1 quality spinner if they ought to win matches abroad.

Starc is a good ODI bowler

Decent but not good enough to take crucial wickets, he leaks too many runs for my liking, again as I said they need to come up with a quality spinner and I don't see it in the current side.

Starc doesn't leak too many runs and does take crucial wickets.

I think Starc will bottle it in a crunch situation, he just gives me that vibe.

Plus they need to find a way to play good spinners more effectively and need to rotate strike more often which has been the sole reason of their demise against Zimbabwe who are not very specialist spinners. We have seen this again and again from Aussie Batsmen against India (in tests) and Pakistan (in UAE and T20 WC) and its becoming increasingly concerning for Australia like England to play quality spin attack.

This match will be a replay of the previous encounter b/w Aus and SA, Aussies posting 300+ and SA chasing it comfortably with the likes of Amla and AB making big scores.

Trundler get a wicket, I don't know how this guy gets wickets, He the worst SA Bowler I have seen, Philander is a much better ODI Bowler/Batsman compared to him but he's not considered in ODIs which is disappointing!

Good to see Smith get a shot. He's not a lower order slogger so we shouldn't select him as one

Philander is injured i think

Aussies have picked just 3 specialist batsmen - Finch, Hughes and Bailey..Smith, Maxwell, Marsh, Haddin are all all rounders.

Is that a case of too many bits and pieces players and not enough specialists?

Smith is a specialist batsman.

Smith & Mad Max are into the team as pure bats.

Hasn't yet done much in ODIs as a specialist bat though

Barely played since his big improvement as a player and was for some reason used wrongly.

Smith is a batsman who bowl occasionly- like Michael Clarke.

Actually Smith doesn't even have a 50+ score in ODIs (or in T20s). Lets see how he goes.

All but 5 of his games were 2012 or earlier when he didn't deserve selection

This.

If he doesn't work out this time round, I can't imagine him being in the preferred XI by the time the World Cup comes around. Smith has only started to prove himself with the bat in the last 12 or so months. Before that he was purely mediocre.

Good platform set for the Big Show when he comes in

I don't think he will make the world cup. But Clarke will retire after the world cup and Smith will make it

Imran Tahir has the best bowling average for anyone who has bowled a minimum of 1000 balls. Cant believe.

We'd be buggered without Hughes

Disappointing. Hughes needed to hang around to get us to a competive score

Man, if Ajmal gets cleared, these Aussie bats are going to have a torrid time in the UAE. Even if he isn't, Abdur and Babar would be a handful.

They should get to around 250 from here.

Wouldn't count Aus out of this just yet, SA still have to bat :ab

Finally a Jr. Marsh doing well. Too bad Shaun bottled it or else he would've been here today.
