[VIDEOS] Pakistan to host Champions Trophy 2025

India might be the money maker but this is an ICC event and the host should have some privilege.

Although Pakistan might have to accept the hybrid model in the end because I don't see ICC arranging an event without India when they are the t20 world champs. Not sustainable for ICC in terms of money.

If it’s a hybrid then the final should be held in Pakistan if India doesn’t make it.

Yet another indication that PCB have already accepted the hybrid model secretly and are just making noise for domestic consumption.

Pakistan will play their first two games at home and then move to UAE for the India game and the knockouts.

Tournament is happening in Pakistan

India would be playing mini IPL I guess at UAE

I feel bad for you lot. I honestly do.

But that is just how the real world works these days fortunately or unfortunately. PCB would never like to set a precedent where an ICC tournament hosted by them will incur losses for the official broadcaster.

I've noticed that ICC has deliberately made it easy for Pakistan this time around.

Matches are against Bangladesh and NZ and India is the last game because Typically India mentally kills Pakistan if their the first match.

It's very dissapointing considering how tough ct 2017 was given the fact Pakistan had to face South Africa straight after a humilating butchering by India.

Given the Halwa conditions for pakistan this time around, If Pakistan fumbles and doesn't reach Semi's then true and utter shame on them.

It can't get any easier then what they have been given this time around given the fact that even NZ atm is down under in terms of form and their players are still playing a lack of professional Cricket.

To add to that the 2nd group is Afg, SA, Aus and Eng

It's clear as day ICC wants pakistan and India to have an easy ride to Semi's and don't want the mishap of Pakistan exiting early

Pakistan vs NZ game will decide the other semi-finalist along with india.
Most likely semifinal team's
India, NZ
Australia , england/ Afghanistan

But just imagine if India gets defeated by Pakistan here what will Indian ppl do with them? That might be the fear which is stopping them from visiting Pakistan lol.
Brother if India loses a game in pakistan, it's just a game that they lost.

You're making it seem as If India is playing Squid Game against pakistan where if they win they get money and if they lose their local people will execute them 🤣🤣.

To be really honest, I think the BCCI would love it if India lost to Pakistan now and then. The BCCI is basically a money machine and an occasional defeat would revitalize the rivalry and allow it and the ICC to keep milking the money from these games. Today, a lot of spice has gone from the rivalry and I think it's reflected in the viewership figures. Indian fans don't even have a villian or a figure of hate/fear in the Pakistan team...which is unthinkable for those of us who grew up in the Miandad days.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Pakistan team is capable enough now to re-energise the rivalry.

Buddy, India stopped comparing itself to Pakistan, which by all objective assessments is a basket case. Unless we defeat Australia/England/South Africa in away series and don’t win WC regularly, ICT fans are not gonna be satisfied.
The same holds true for India in other aspects. Pakistan doesn’t appear in rear view mirror unless there are troubles on the border. India is more concerned about China/USA/West. We are not there yet.

The indian media and public beg to differ.

So pull the other one.

The indian board has no friends.

Its a relationship of money and convenience.

If the indian board was bankrupt tomorrow the "friends" would sail off into the sunset.

That is the reality.
True for every board and every country. Foolish to think otherwise. I would be mighty pissed of BCCI helped another boards out of charity.

Says a lot about the boards and ICC. They are just as bad as BCCI if not worse.

Yes, isnt it the reality. If PCB was the richest board then all countries would clamor for it. So not sure what you mean to say ? Nobody cares about bankrupt boards. And the PCB was the one who used words like dushman mulk etc but will do anything to accommodate bcci. And they pretty much have already agreed to hybrid model. So much for all the bravado talk nonsense from them - its just to appease the local Pak public thats all and they fall for it repeatedly.

This thread is about the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, not about the debt and IMF and INDIA and Pakistan economies....STAY ON TOPIC

When asked about India’s participation in Pakistan, Jay Shah mentioned that no decision has been made yet, and the BCCI will address the situation when the time comes. He was quoted by the Times of India saying, "No stand as of now. We will cross the bridge when it comes."

As per reports:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will install new floodlights at two of the three stadiums hosting ICC Champions Trophy 2025 matches, using a budget of INR 586 crore approved by the ICC.

Renovations at the National Stadium in Karachi and the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore are being ramped up. To cut costs, Karachi and Lahore will receive new floodlights on rent, with the current ones moving to Rawalpindi and Quetta. The PCB is inviting tenders for rental light towers from August 2024 to July 2025.

All these are good signs.

Somehow the Indian government has granted permission for the Indian Mixed Martial Arts team to travel to Pakistan for the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Asian Championship 2024. The Indian team arrived today. Are the lives of Indian martial artists less valuable than those of the cricket team?

Cricket is more valuable financially. Double standards you would think so.. But guess what- pak can deny entry to ind players any time. Why dont they do it? Ind will pick and choose as they want.

Why would Pakistan deny entry when Pakistan wants India to come and play cricket here? It is BCCI and GOI that is denying the permission to come here for cricketers.

Pakistan has nothing to do with it. Keep sports and politics separate brotherrrrrr

This has got to be the most ridiculous take on the issue yet. From isolating Pakistan to protecting the lives of Indians, from getting revenge for alleged Pakistani sponsored terrorist activities on Indian soil, it has finally come down to “we can pick and choose as we want.” 😂

Sad part is that they are getting away with it. How can there be a change? Or is it a case of no fight back from anyone and things stay the way they are? We will take the money. Thank you very much. We cede control to BCCI.

So many aspects here:
1. Can India get away without touring pak in mma ?
2. Are mma fighters as high profile as cricketers?
3. Cost benefit ratio of attacking cricketers vs mma fighters.

When we will get official confirmation from ICC regarding champion trophy .

Why are they delaying the announcement .

I didn't say pak is denying entry. I said pak " should " deny entry if they feel ind is playing games. As said above -
1.Can India get away without touring pak in mma ? - probably not in mma so ind tours pak
2. Are mma fighters as high profile as cricketers? - again not sure if it's a bilateral mma or group event
3. Cost benefit ratio of attacking cricketers vs mma- -- ind is the cricket behemoth.. so ind using it's leverage here. Again pcb will not do anything whatsoever to upset the bcci applecart. Again I am just stating the facts. If thats not palatable to some- so be it. But you can't escape from reality.. pcb is in no position to rile up bcci.. again just stating the facts that's all

See reply above- post # 1724

Mohsin Ijaz, a reknown journalist just confirmed today that whole CT is being held in Pakistan and things are aligned between bcci and pcb.

Interesting to note, whilst the standard of journalism has never been particularly high in Pakistan, our journalists have recently fallen to new depths... they'll say anything for views...

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi during media interaction at Lahore:

"The Champions Trophy matches and final will be held in Lahore, InshaAllah."

“InshaAllah the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will indeed take place in Pakistan. Match dates may shift, but the PCB is actively coordinating with security agencies.”

"Our main target is to complete these stadiums before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, InshaAllah, if Allah wills, they will be completed."

Are they a recognised national federation? Government will not stop individuals from travelling anywhere.

Pakistan kept sports a politics separate, when they boycotted the Asia Cup in India in 1990? Or the India tour in 1993 or the Hero Cup?

Or when Pakistan boycotted the 1980 Olympics?

Since PCB and Pakistan now have little leverage, Politics and sports have to be kept separate? :))

How is it looking guys?

After the recent statement from honourable Shri Jay Shah, it looks like BCCI has not even gave a thought about it. With only 7 months to go, time is running out of PCB.

Remember it is an ICC tournament, where logistics (tickets, hotels, fixture etc.) need to be prepared way in advance.

However, brother Jay Shah said, he will cross this bridge when time comes

:danish

This is like those desi families where someone did or said something 40+ years ago but they can’t let it go. 1980 mai tum nai meri baisti ki thi!!

The tournament is part of the IMMAF.

We are the global body for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), the world’s fastest growing sport with an estimated 449 million followers worldwide.

Too many InShaAllahs. This means there are still a lot of uncertainties regarding matches in Pakistan

Moral of the story - Don't accuse others of doing something you yourself did multiples times in the past.

I recommend everyone to watch Mohsin’s press conference today. Positive signs overall. The renders they showed for the stadiums look really good, hopefully this guy pulls it off.

Moral of the story is to not behave in the same way you yourself find repulsive.
Moral of the story is strong do what they can and weak suffer what they must. World is not fair, glad India learnt that lesson. But India has a lot to learn from Pak when it comes to mixing politics and sports.

Welcome to international relations. They work on a reciprocal basis.

Gotta admire the taqqiya though.

Doesn't matter. What matters is if there is a recognised national federation in India and if they sent a team.

Hope BCCI does exactly what Pak did for WC23 and not announce the decision till the last week.

Stress their system out and mock their incompetence

Moral of the story: Own up and apologize as a nation for your past behavior.

Don't be a self righteous leech.
As the self-appointed liaison for both the PCB and the Pakistani government, I, 'Offstump,' hereby extend my most sincere apologies to the esteemed Indian government for any emotional distress caused during the 1980 Olympics, the 1990 Asia Cup, and the 1993 Hero Cup. Now that we've cleared the air, shall we proceed with the Champions Trophy?

Now get PCB to own up

With the stadiums in dire state of needed upgrades and in apparent dug up condition as I right this, doubt they'll have the ground upgraded in this time frame.

They should've started the upgrade works gradually over the years and not wait for an icc tournament to be staged in PAK to be doing this.

So I'm doubfull if the CT would even take place in Pakistan as the works are mostly sub or below standards in Pakistan.

I have sent several emails to Mohsin Naqvi and I’m eagerly awaiting his response. Rest assured, the wheels are in motion.

I'm fairly sure the ICC disagrees with you-or they would just tell India they don't have to play Pakistan in ICC tournaments anymore and we'd simply stop holding the Asia Cup as well.
As far as IPL rights, it's purely economic. Your $7 billion for five years shrinks in comparison to the NFL's $12.8 billion total-for one year alone (and it went up from $7.968 billion the prior year).
I suspect Pakistan will figure out its economy soon enough and with the world's fifth largest population, Pakistan will do quite well.
Hahahaha….
@cricketjoshila’s point was India doesn’t need Pakistan for its revenue. But Pakistan is dependent on ICC Indian revenue. Since you are unnecessarily comparing IPL and NFL, here is some nuance.
First of IPL is only for 2 months as opposed to NFL which is the sole competition of Major League Football.
IPL has been around for 15 years and it is on an upward trajectory, unlike NFL which has been around for over a century.
India is on an upward trend unlike Pakistan economy which is in a death spiral.
As for Pakistan figuring out it’s economy….
Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve

Honestly those numbers for IPL vs NFL are truly mind boggling. I thought IPL was a fraction of NFL and that still would have been good. But these numbers are well and truly insane especially if you did a comparison like you did. And the Pak poster is grumbling about this. Well, I would have run with those numbers. Even a comparison with NFL is a remarkable feat for IPL. (y)
And as for Pak getting anywhere close to IPL numbers or Ind economy or Pak figuring out their economy - well I dont want to be a party spoiler if somebody wishes to have fantasy dreams lol!:D

is this like another rapture prediction or prophecy like Ghazwa-e-hind?

Any specific approaches pakistan can take? there is whole thread in time pass focussed on this. maybe you can contribute there?

Naqvi guy seems like a competent guy.

His predecessors were always whiny teenagers who would speak to media like they were rambos and ruined any chance of Ind potentially touring Pak.

This time things seem to be different.

Govt is a bit more mature and understands how important neighbors are, specially our eastern parosi.

I’m 99% sure there is some back channel diplomacy happening and hope there will be a good news.
PCB is tight lipped.

No threats of boycotts or “we won’t send our team to Ind”. Instead it has been a refreshing tone mostly, welcoming and inviting and showing their willingness to be great hosts.

At that time it was sort of an interim govt, now things are a bit different.

It seems like Nawaz also wants to show that he still has that friendly touch with Modi and they are the right party to improve Ind-Pak relations, so he will be doing everything to convince the power circles to mend ties with the eastern neighbor, accept their demands etc.

The maturity is clearly visible.
In Imran Khan era, everyone in Pakistan govt and PCB was behaving like immature and reckless people.

This new regime is pro business and pro development for Pakistan and the impact on PCB is also very visible.

As per reports, Modi ji and Jaishankar are doing back channel discussions with Pakistan in bringing the two nations together once again under the banner of Sindhu Ghaati brotherhood.

Can you quote some of those reports?

Or is that sarcasm .. 🙂

Can you quote some of those reports?

The sources are well connected to foreign ministry. These reports cannot come in public for their sensitive nature.

To solve the Bharat-Pakistan dispute has been the wish for only a few leaders and Pakistanis might find it hard to believe, but PM Modi ji also is one of them otherwise why do you think he went to attend Nawaz Shareef’s family function in Pakistan after also inviting him to his swearing in ceremony in 2014. Historically there have been attempts to revive this relationship against the will of CIA and deep state military establishment in Pakistan. PM Vajpayee ji also made a similar attempt.

The media and opposition will kill the leadership if reports of such attempts are made public knowledge but there is always some back door dialogue going on, even between Bharat & Pakistan.

Kashmir has been relatively quiet for years now. Pakistan has also taken serious action against militancy and anti democratic forces. There is hope.

PCB clarifies misreporting on ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Lahore, 20 August 2024:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) categorically denies the recent media reports suggesting that the dates for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan might be rescheduled.

“It is disappointing that certain media outlets have misrepresented PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi’s comments from yesterday’s media interaction, misleadingly quoting him on the potential change of dates for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to security concerns, thus creating unnecessary sensationalism.

“During the media talk, which is available on the PCB’s official YouTube channel, the PCB Chair clearly stated that the redevelopment and redesign of the three designated stadia would be completed on schedule, ensuring readiness to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The PCB Chair also mentioned that while some domestic matches may need to be shifted to facilitate uninterrupted construction work, this in no way pertains to the ICC Champions Trophy, which remains a priority for the PCB as a premier eight-team international event.

“The PCB is fully committed to hosting a world-class ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at three of Pakistan’s iconic venues, ensuring an unforgettable experience for our passionate cricket fans. In line with this commitment, the PCB has already submitted a draft schedule to the International Cricket Council (ICC), with the proposed dates spanning from 19 February to 9 March 2025.”

PCB themselves looking confused tbh

JAY SHAH BECOMES THE NEW ICC CHAIRMAN

Now Pakistan will have to choose a neutral venue for India matches :kp
