[VIDEOS] Pakistan to host Champions Trophy 2025

I differ.
India not playing Pakistan in ICC and ACC events hurts India as well as all other participating nations due to cut in Sponsorhip revenues to ICC/ACC.
BCCI doesnt want to antagonise ICC/ACC and other nations cricket board by doing this and losen its hold and say in the International Cricket Politics.

While India not playing Pakistan in Bilaterals only hurts India, (But since their sponsorhip deals for home bilaterals allready account for the same with ficed per match fee, without Pakistan Fixtures) They are not going to lose from what they are already getting.

Now India not Playing Pakistan in ICC/ACC events hosted in Pakistan has altogether different scenario. Wherein Security, Indian Public Perception, Benefiting Pakistan financially, Indian Govts Stance overshadows revenue cuts to participating nations, ICC/ACC. Futher they know that ICC/ACC or other Nations including Pakistan will not play and ICC/ACC tournament without India participating and bear the substantial revenue cuts.

Last Asia cup is good example of the same
I am referring to ICC and ACC events not just hosted in Pakistan but all of them 2026 t20 world cup, 2027 odi world cup etc..., again since India has most money I think they can easily make up that money in other matches I think their fans would rally behind them even more and so more support and bring in even more money

I gave a reason why India plays pakistan in ICC/ACC Events and not in Bilaterals and ICC/ACC events hosted by Pakistan

If emotions are given a priority I agree to your points India would not have played Pakistan in any event be it ICC/ACC. But emotions don't govern actions of sucessful bussiness ventures.

Pakistan's foreign ministry has responded to the Indian government's denial for the Indian cricket team to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

"Sports should not be damaged! Indian politicians have a habit of blaming Pakistan. India filed terrorism cases against Kashmiris who raised pro-Palestine slogans which is very irresponsible behavior of India,"

India has good incentive to actually visit and completely destroy Pakistan's morale in their own backyard in the Champions trophy..

Really good opportunity to take away their last ounce of dignity (if any left)..

Please do us and favour and help us get rid of our toxic political core - Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed

I think a country should only play sports with it's friends. Sports is not an alternative to the battlefield or a diplomatic backroom. Considering India-Pakistan are hostile to each other, I am not sure India should be playing Pakistan anywhere.

I think that's very short-sighted. Friends and enemies change all the time in international relations. For example, if Sheikh Hasina is ousted tomorrow and Khaleda Zia comes into power, India and Bangladesh won't be friends any more. In fact there may be open hostility. Does that mean we should cut off cricketing relations and trade? What about the tens of thousands of jobs on both sides dependant on it?

I think relations like sport, art and trade should be preserved in any conditions short of an open shooting war. Else you'll be constantly picking and choosing who to do what with.

India and Pakistan have both been short-sighted here but Pakistan more than India since they have a lot more to lose.

I need to clarify I used the term friends as used by the diplomats, where unless you are an openly hostile nation, you are a friendly nation. If Khaleda Zia comes in, uses cross border terrorism as an instrument of state policy, definitely we should not play. But if there are non-alignments of interests, they are still friends.

I think relations like sport, art and trade should be preserved in any conditions short of an open shooting war. Else you'll be constantly picking and choosing who to do what with.
I think trade(arts and sports are also commercial ventures) has been a instrument of foreign policy and coercion for a while. USA trying to stop sales of critical technologies(AI, Computer Hardware, GPU) to China. They might still play Olympics with China, but their interests are non-aligned with them. Similarly India and USA interests are not always 100% aligned.

India and Pakistan have both been short-sighted here but Pakistan more than India since they have a lot more to lose.
I disagree. India and Pakistan are and have been hostile too each other. Either of them will use all tools at their disposal to nullify the other party. I am not sure what is so short sighted with them being on collision course.

Good in both cases. India wants to play, Pakistan will be more than happy to welcome them here in Pakistan otherwise it is their own choice not to come.

But changing venue for 1 team does not make sense TBH.

Agree with you but India won't visit.

Sure the hybrid model will be accepted & both India & Pakistan will play.

ICC should have put India & Pakistan in different groups which would have avoided the controversy.

Pakistan would have got to play league matches & semi-final in Pakistan while India would have played their matches in Dubai.

I think the BCCI needs to present the reason to the ICC if they don't want to go Pakistan . The most probable and strong reason is that the GoI is not allowing them to visit Pakistan. They need to have written orders from the GoI. According to international relations protocols, it is extremely complex and difficult to provide a written statement for not touring a country due to security reasons. This will make things very complicated and difficult between the PCB, ICC, and BCCI.

I expect India to visit Pakistan at the last moment making things very interesting. If India wont tour Pakistan this time, then for sure PCB will use the same tactics in next ICC events held in India making things more tough for ICC and BCCI.

India are co-hosts in next ICC tournaments so PAK would play their matches in other country....

So, it won't be an issue at all...Only the Champions trophy in INDIA is going to be an ICC tournament where PAK would play in INDIA and PAK would be playing if they have to receive their share from ICC. It depends on ICC revenue generated by INDIA.

Former PCB chairman Khalid Mahmood believes India will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy:

"They are very very slim chances they will agree to play in Pakistan,"

"India is the richest cricket board and carries a lot of clout. If they don't send their team to Pakistan I foresee even countries like Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh following their path,"

"This would basically reduce the Champions Trophy into a venture where revenues will take a hit, expenses will grow and profits would fall,"

"Look the thing is at this level you can only lobby and try to convince other boards to be on your side. India has too much clout in the ICC it would do no good for Pakistan to adopt a *** for tat strategy." "Thing is when the BCCI says it can't send its team and will play its matches outside Pakistan, it does reduce the purpose for Pakistan of hosting an ICC event,"

I am often surprised at the entitlement of some of the posters on this board, to ask for parity with India and BCCI at this point in time.

Tony Hemming appointed chief curator

Lahore, 15 July 2024:

Tony Hemming has been appointed as the new head curator on a two-year contract, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced today. The Western Australian will arrive in Lahore on Wednesday to assume his role.

One of Hemming’s immediate tasks will be to prepare pitches for the upcoming five ICC World Test Championship matches against Bangladesh (two in August/September) and England (three in October). Hemming will also oversee pitch preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host from 19 February to 9 March.

Hemming is a highly respected curator with nearly four decades of experience. He has worked at various iconic cricket grounds in Australia, including Melbourne, Perth and Tasmania, as well as in countries such as Bangladesh, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where he was the ICC’s Head Curator from 2007 to 2017 in Dubai.

During his time with the ICC, Hemming also oversaw pitch preparation at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which was one of Pakistan’s home venues between 2009 and 2019.
Chief Curator Tony Hemming from Australia has taken charge. Tony Hemming's arrival at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, and meeting with the ground staff. Tony Hemming discussed the ground and pitches. The PCB has recently appointed Tony Hemming as Chief Curator. Tony Hemming will prepare the pitches for the Test series against Bangladesh and England.

As per reports:

The budget for the 2025 Champions Trophy has been approved at the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) annual meeting in Colombo.

The approval of the competition's budget, which will be hosted by Pakistan, was given on the last day of the ICC meeting.

Why PCB has called chief curator from Australia? They should have called Dr. Ramiz Raja for advise on how to create pitches. Under his chairmanship test pitches were great

The pitches in Australia & England series were mostly flat.

Pakistan should prepare their traditional wickets & not copy hard & bouncy Aussie wickets.

If CT budget has approved than we can sense all the matches are being played on Pakistan Can we ?

I want the CT to be in Pakistan in its entirety. But, I expect ICC to do what is good for them and their members financially. They won't care about what rest of world thinks or some random posters on the internet want.

Paint a bad picture to the world.

If ICC is forced to have a co-host, it shows ICC can't make any independent decision without India. It would be fair to say ICC has become an unofficial branch of BCCI.
Who except for the 12 odd nations playing test cricket cares about ICC. Yeah ICC is an (almost) official branch of BCCI. So ?

So, you see nothing wrong if ICC behaves like an "almost official" branch of BCCI.
Even if someone feels that is wrong, nothing anyone can do about it. That’s how world works. Think of India as USA of cricket. They can get away with anything. There is nothing funny about it.

There is a reason why cricket is not a classy sport like soccer. It is run by short-sighted people.

Well at least one sport where subcontinent countries are taken seriously. If non-Paindoo “neutral goras” start running things, countries like Bangladesh wouldn’t have a shot at anything. It is BcCI to atleast maintain the status quo of Asian bloc that props up Srilanka, Bangladesh,Nepal, Afghanistan . if relations were better with Pak politically in the past India-Pak had each others back in ICC too because they know the value of Asian block. Paindu might be a new word of the day but I don’t see any credible alternative.

Pak should lead by example and boycott india like they did in the early 90's
Pakistan is the host. They cannot boycott this time. But yes, India can and should boycott and make way for Sri Lanka if they are not willing to come to Pakistan.

I'm saying Pakistan should boycott India period, given how India has ruined cricket. Pakistan should champion a new cricket organization with like minded countries.

instead of living off of Dushman mulk

Your suggestions are not sustainable bro. No nation is going to be with Pakistan because every country knows what BCCI brings to the table (MONEY).

Even though It is as simple and logical as it sounds, the broadcaster who pays billions of dollars which is not some chump change might have an issue with India not traveling. Making people sip Tapal Chahal during every over won’t recover that loss.

In the past Aus, WI refused to travel to SL, Nzl refused to travel to Kenya, England to Zim all in ICC worldcup. So it is not the first time this is happening.

Sometimes you have too, even if it means struggling and taking financial losses but this is bigger than sports and cricket I know it wont happen, but if it was upto me I would
If it is up to you and maybe it’s not your own money at stake it might happen bro but I can bet 100% you won’t be so irresponsible in real life.

Indeed.

Money is important but it shouldn't trump decency/dignity.

Cricket world has become an autocratic sport ever since BCCI got a hold of it. Everything has become super-commercialized and lame.

That is not true cricket was better without the money.

I'm confident ECB and CA will see the light with PCB's guidance. They will us use veto to eliminate BCCI from international cricket, there by purifying the game.

I know @sweep_shot will agree with me on this

What can Pakistan PCB and Pak fans do to make it a reality?

Tyranny only lasts for a period of time as history has shown.

America is the Pharaoh of the world today but we all know how it ended for pharaoh.

Calling your country the US of cricket should be a matter of great shame not honour.

You wouldn't want to suffer the same fate.

It seems Pakistan is all set to host the Champions Trophy at home. ICC has approved a budget of 12.80 billion PKR for the tournament and has started preparations, including assessing the pitches and stadiums. India should not push for a hybrid model unless the PCB accepts it. Pakistan should go ahead and conduct the Champions Trophy without India if necessary.

I don't mind, safety comes first. Let our players take some rest or play bilateral series with other teams who are not part of the CT.

Good luck PCB.

As per reports :

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has allocated supplementary expenses to the budget for the Champions Trophy 2025, anticipating the potential relocation of India’s matches outside Pakistan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has tasked the ICC with persuading the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow its team to play in Pakistan for the upcoming tournament.

Set for the first quarter of next year, the Champions Trophy budget was approved during ICC meetings in Colombo. However, the schedule and format remain undiscussed, according to a PCB source.

An Indian media report stated that the PCB has already submitted all necessary details in its expression of interest document with the ICC.

The ICC now holds the responsibility of finalising and announcing the tournament schedule, as well as securing BCCI’s confirmation regarding the Indian team's travel to Pakistan.

The ICC’s budget now includes additional costs to cover scenarios where India might have to play its matches outside Pakistan.

The BCCI has historically stated that playing cricket in Pakistan is a decision for the Indian government.

In the 2023 ODI Asia Cup, India played its games in Sri Lanka under a 'Hybrid Model.'

According to the draft schedule, all of India's matches, including a potential semi-final and final, are slated for Lahore.

The highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match is scheduled for 1 March next year.

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has expressed confidence that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to be hosted in Pakistan, will be a far more successful event than the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2024 held in the USA and West Indies. he said:

"There's no comparison of this event to the United States of America or any other such country. This will surely be a more successful event than the T20 World Cup. The pitches weren't up to the mark over there, the stadiums were too far, and the hotels were elsewhere. No locals knew what was happening in their cities, just the overseas people staying there knew about cricket.”

“When such a trophy comes to this part of the world, be it in India, Pakistan, or Bangladesh, the love and respect that the players will receive will be different. Also, the teams won't have to travel for hours. Everything will be sealed and it will take just six minutes for the team to reach the stadium. This is presidential security; such a feeling can never be there in the USA.”

'Determination to make sure...,' ECB backs PCB to host Champions Trophy 2025 amid doubts over India's travel

England Cricket Board (ECB) CEO Richard Gould has backed Pakistan to host the Champions Trophy 2025 amid reports of uncertainty over India's travel.

The comments were made during the BBC Test Match special on the Day 1 tea break of the ongoing third Test between England and West Indies.

"There's a great deal of determination to make sure it [Champions Trophy] is [hosted in Pakistan next year]," Gould said. "Particularly from the PCB and the ECB."

There have been growing clouds of doubt about whether India will travel to Pakistan for the tournament or not. The International Cricket Council (ICC), meanwhile, has put aside some complementary funds in the budget approved in case India plays their matches outside the host country.

The development was reported by the news agency PTI after the conclusion of ICC's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Colombo, Sri Lanka from July 19-22.

"The ICC has kept supplementary expenses in its tournament budget to meet any situation where the Indian team has to play its matches outside Pakistan," reported PTI.

The news agency also reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has left the responsibility to convince the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to travel for the tournament up to the ICC.

"It is now up to the ICC how soon they circulate, discuss and finalize the schedule of the Champions Trophy. The PCB for its part in the draft schedule has suggested hosting all of India's games in Lahore including a semi-final (if India qualifies) and final," the source added.

Last year, India decided not to travel to Pakistan for the regional Asia Cup. The tournament was eventually played in a hybrid model with India playing all their matches in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan, however, travelled to India for the ODI World Cup 2023 which was played right after the Asia Cup.

Just play sri lanka in ct for god sakes.

Let India focus on their anant ambani 7 month wedding.

I just wish to see someone like Jake fraser and Travis head perform in gaddafi

Pakistan cricket is beyond repair now (at least in the short-medium term). Shameful decline!

The least we can do when hosting the CT 25 is to ensure that the event is managed smoothly without any major incidents..

Forget about winning any of the matches in the tournament. Our current team is pathetic, led by one of our worst captains ever - Babar Azam..

India can organise a all India star IPL and get more viewers and revenue than the CT. So i doubt BCCI will bother much about not getting to play CT.

Its the other smaller boards who need India to play the CT to get money.

So ICC will decide.

And really you can do a lot better than making comments about Ambanis. They run cricket teams better than PCB.

Every Tom dick and Harry runs cricket better then PCB so I have no clue why you're bringing that up.

Ambani payed for their cricket teams so obviously they'd do their best to manage it lol. Otherwise it would be a waste of money and you don't become the richest Asian family of all time and the 2nd richest family in the world only behind the Walton family by just wasting money and not making use of your resources.

There are a few teams in IPL unable to make good use of resources. MI is incredible in the opportunities it offers to develop the players. DK has spoken about it.

Some of you were laughing at me when I said ECB had the PCB's back.

Cue the responses about revenue, market power, and everyone kowtowing to the BCCI's gold.

Go ahead we don't care you keep watching mini IPL

While rest of world will watch CT

CT should be held in Pakistan, with or without India- bit like 1980 olympics, the sheen will be tarnished a bit, but thats life.

In a recent statement on his YouTube channel, Tanvir Ahmed has issued a bold challenge to the Indian cricket team:

“We are lions.”

“We came and played cricket in your country. Come here and show... We are inviting you to come and play. We will provide security; we will give you everything. Just come once.”

“This is only the job of Pakistani players, brother. Only Pakistani players came and play, then left. Whether they win or lose, they play the kind of cricket they do. They went to India, played there, and came back. This is what you call a brave team and brave players.”

Yes yes, Tigers, lions and next what Dinosaur .
As I mentioned before , Biggest security threat for indian team is from the security provider
( Your Establishment) . They will not care about consequences as they have tried this method in even Biggest stage at 1999 and they will not hesitate to try again now as currently they are at backfoot in popularity level. U all people will condemn for few days, put blame as indian sponsored one and after decade will again start asking for tour.
First did u capture or altteast solve 2009 srilankan attacks. Why should we put our players lives on line knowingly .

Before talk, have some courage annd organise a ICC event without india.
Pretty sure ICC can just saying.

The whole bcci money backing is an over exaggerated concept.

The reason people want India to play isn't because they have complete control over ICC, it's because India vs Pakistan are lucrative matches regardless of whether India is a million times superior or not.

A tournament without India is boring in general, If Australia boycotted the tournament and India accepted then ICC would be making similar concessions with Australia or England, that's just how it is.

I agree with your point about Australia, but I am not sure if England carries the same weight.

They do. ECB is the 3rd richest board and they make tons.

Only issue is England doesn't treat cricket as its primary sport.

Australia doesn't either but Australia has a huge huge fan base of aissies who love cricket and can't stand not watching it. Cricket in Australia is seen as a prestigious career while in England you're probs seen as a medicore super star compared to your peers in football.
