[VIDEOS/ PICTURES] Virat Kohli has secured his position as an ATG

ATG for sure but he will go down as a choker and will eventually be surpassed by Babar Azam.

He had the absolute perfect opportunity to prove that he isn't a choker today and the man couldn't hit a boundary to save his life once Rohit stopped carrying him.

Call Kohli an ATG if you wish, but never put him in the same sentence with greats like Vivian Richards.

Virat is the only player won can win mott, score a century in the semis and 50 in the final and still get called a choker by fans of a team who have been to the same of finals as Kenya in the 21st century. And Babar lol, he needs to surpass iyer first. Had an absolutely terrible wc

End of an era 2027 is a long shot for Kohli he is already 35, a career glitzed with personal milestones but nothing extravagant at team level

GOAT of this generation at least. Never saw Viv play but he has unbelievable stats for the time so I would understand if people consider him better.

Kohli really shined when MS was still captain though

Babar might surpass him but only in your dreams. In the real world, Babar is not worthy of lacing his boots and never will be. He doesn’t have his ability, skills and mentality.

Kohli is miles better than any batsman Pakistan has ever produced and ever will produce. Learn to respect true greatness and don’t disappear from your own threads again.

Speaking of choking, the greatest choke/bottlejob this forum has ever seen is you disappearing from your own thread on October 15.

Has produced is ok, but will ever produce? How can you say that. Cricket is always evolving ....

If India can suddenly produce a top tier bowler like Bumrah then there is some chance of Pakistan producing top tier batsman. Yes, it's a very hard hurdle but as I said cricket is evolving.

Pakistan hasn’t got what it takes. Will never be a top team or produce a top batsman. I have zero faith in them.

Even Indians are not gushing over Kohli today except for one beghairat badniyat individual

Spot on Kohli is the GOAT period. People need to fathom the truth

Better than Tendu? All formats including Tests?

Nope, tendu far better in tests, it's not even debatable. Pretty equal in odis and you wouldn't go wrong with either of them
Hmm. So if they're equal in LOIs and Tendu superior in tests that makes Tendu better than Kohli all-format, correct?

India is going to South Africa next month's if virat can win a test series there then he is better than sachin in all formats.

I already pointed out Viv choked against India.. you seem to have ignored that..he has choked. in 1987,1983

As per your logic mostly Ponting is thE great no one else, Lara ll also not be mentioned lol.

Football analogy cannot be used in cricket due to its position based impact.

If one notices KO games throughout there have been unique performances from players:
Arvinda Silva, Irfan Pathan etc who will not be called world ATGs by any standard.

Never lead his country to glory as the main man and played selfishly in the only good WC campaign he had.
His match-winning innings in the CT 2013 final is still a more impactful white ball innings than any NZ innings ever.

And you have to combine all NZ batsmen in history and all the sheep in NZ to match his centuries tally.

Kohli is bigger than NZ cricket itself so I don’t think your criticism will bother him much.

I can do as I please. My goal in life is not to be the popular critic among the uncles on Pakpassion, unlike you. I have no reason to be here when cricket is not entertaining to me but today has certainly been an entertaining day.

Kohli has finished his career as a massive bottler who barely averages 30 with a SR in the 70s in ODI KO matches. He was a passenger in the 2011 WC win and since then, he's been one of the main culprits in every single one of India's bottlejobs.

Babar will easily surpass Kohli by the 2031 WC. I'm sure you'll still be living here by then so I'll make sure to troll you then. The trajectory proves it:

- Babar outscored Kohli during their first-ever world cups (2019 vs 2011).
- Babar outscored Kohli during their second world cup (2023 vs 2015).
- Babar may not score more than 700 runs in 2027 but a match-winning knock in a KO match would give him something Kohli has never done.

Lol Chris Cairns in 2001 has done even better against us.

And Wasim, Imran, Inzamam, Dhoni, Ponting, Gilly and Starc who certainly will.

Kohli is a massive choker, the biggest choker we have ever seen given how good he is during bilateral cricket.

50. FIFTY hundreds. Not ONE in a WC KO match. That is damning.

I disagree slightly with the GOAT tag. Different players perform different roles.

Naw Inzi and Wasim choked 1999 , if seemis is all that matters Kohli scored as well.
Gilchrist again , no one has choked more than Gilly in KOs.. check it out.

As I said before Ponting alone is GOAT if KO is what is the criteria no one else coz everyone else has choken on multiple KO occasions.

Inzamam and Wasim won us the final in '92. Go check the scorecard again. Gilly again won Australia KO matches.

No one is saying that you have to succeed in every KO match but you cannot keep failing over and over again like Kohli did and not be termed a choker. He has never won India a single KO game. The semi-final against New Zealand wasn't won by Kohli.

Go check Gilly’s scores in KO games, if that’s the criteria then so many would be ATG.

Also Inzi won the semis not the final.
And then 1999 wc final happened.

Only Warne and Mcgrath are GOAT or ATGs in your logic.

Why aren't you understanding that a couple of match-winning performances are enough for a player to not be termed a choker?

Inzamam played a T20-esque innings in that final which helped us get to a good total.

Gilly has a 50 and a 100 in world cup finals. Both at a SR of well over 100.

What are you talking about?

Where he was scored a hundred last weel against nz ? Maybe on Mercury? Lol

He has secured his position as a bum, a bum dosser who QUIT when the going got tough. He is not fit to tie KW’s shoe laces let alone the best of all time.

A weak individual.

Just good for running on the treadmil.

Run old boy RUN! RUN! The Aussies are coming! they wont leave your nightmares.

The last thing he will see before each night is Pat holding the Gold Plated OG
He has already won two ICC trophy . forget about kane ,entire nz cricket from history cant even compare with Virat shoe .
virat is GOAT . :shh

Haters like your can cry as much as you can . virat is GOAT . :shh

Those two ICC trophy’s don’t want to be tainted by a weak chicken hearted person, Munaf Patel has a greater legacy than Virat, sadly this is how he will be remembered, as a back yard talent who was worshipped by insects with a high body fat % and short height

The worst hundred with the least impact of that match. Doesn't wash away his failures, it wasn't match-winning.

He has scored hundred in semifinals and fifty in final and score 750 runs which your players can't even imagine in dream .

What a logic as expected. Gautam Gambhir is bigger player than any Pakistani and nz teams ever produced as he won the two world cup for india.

Well said.

Kohli is able to milk the bowlers in the middle overs with 1s and 2s to accumulate runs. At best he'll slowly kill you but you need impact players around him to actually be killed.

Still the GOAT for me but I had him there before the World Cup.

It’s not ideal to lose a WC for anyone but his performances were excellent throughout.

Stop lying. You would log in frequently but didn’t have the courage to post. I was keep an eye on you.

Again, it is your delusion that Babar will “easily surpass” Kohli. He won’t. He can’t.

He might surpass Amla though, the biggest choker in ODI history with 0 centuries against non-minnows in World Cups.

Kohli scored a match-winning century against NZ in the semifinal and if you don’t know, a semifinal is a knockout match. It appears that Kohli destroying the comparisons with Babar has affected your thinking capabilities.

Kohli is a GoAT no doubt, he tried his best yesterday but Indian middle order' soul was probably swapped with Pakistan's middle order

Virat is 35 now and I don't think he will play the 2027 ODI WC?
What will be his legacy in Cricket, specifically ODI Cricket?

For me, He has one 1 CT and 1 WC in ODI's, so that is ticket off.
Player of Tournament, Top Scorer as well so a personal achievement.

But more than that, I think he is the one who truly maximized his skill and talent with insane focus on fitness.

Discuss?

I wish I see him playing for as long as possible. He's lucky he got to play the 2011 WC, or he would have retired without an ODI WC under his belt. Not his fault though. Anyways, not the end of the world. It's a game, and we should see it as nothing but entertainment. I couldn't do so during Sachin's time. But now I've perfectly learnt the art.

I'll remember him for not giving an interview in post match presentation after he was declared man of tournament

Let's be honest, he didn't really have much a role in the 2011 ODI WC win, he read lucky to be in the right place at the right time for that one. Sanjay Manjrekar was not happy with his selection in the WC squad and felt Rohit Sharma should have gotten the nod instead.

As a senior celebrated player, he doesn't really have a WC win to his resume and neither does he deserve it. He's benefited from playing in much superior man to man teams in comparison to Tendulkar.

He had the world's best pace attack and still fumbled. He dint do bad in the finals but kl sky iyer are hopl3ss. India should have selected their better talents. They deserve this humiliation

So it has been proven that he can play in ICC semis and finals....,if the pitches are doctored to his style.

Unfortunately by the time WC is in India again he will be too old, was his best chance :(

India will miss him when he's gone.

A lot of his work gets unnoticed or picked apart because it's almost assumed to happen. Finding a batsman like him will take decades and you still might not find an exact replacement. Most international teams have never had a player of this caliber in their entire history.

If we analyze his performance, the consistency he showed in this tournament at 35 was exceptional and no one else in the world (including batsmen in their prime) could keep up.

But it's the nature of sport and he will have to take some of the blame for India's batting in the final. Those criticizing him are not entirely wrong as that's what happens when you're being compared to the legends of the sport. I might call him a GOAT but others won't and that's the reality of comparisons at such a level.

In this game, his approach was realistically fine as I said before but he got out regardless of how much Rahul was to blame.

In the end, all most people will remember that you didn't convert it into a 100. Even a well-accumulated 100 at the same pace would have allowed India to set a higher score (270+). Harsh but that's the nature of expectations.

He would surely be secured his position at the ATG by winning the final against Australia for India. He still has done enough to be one of the greatest batters of all time but he hasn't been able to win a World Cup for team India. He was a part of the Indian team who won the 2011 but back then he was one of the young players in the team but this time, the responsibility was mainly on him and Rohit to take India all the way to lifting the World Cup.

The likes of Jaiswal, Gill will never be super consistent like him. Sure they might be able to win a few games on their own single handedly but they will never be super consistent and devastating like Rohit and Kohli. Pakistan will be able to breathe a bit easy once they no longer have to deal with Rohit and Kohli.

Not a single Indian except Manjrekar himself cares what Sanjay thinks.

One of the best at LOI's will go down as a legend.

But imo Viv and Ponting are just head due to their multiple WC victories and scoring big runs in the final.

Did he not score 112 against NZ in 2023 World Cup semis ?

2019 worldcup it was an umpires call decision. His biggest failure was 2015 World Cup. 2023 worldcup on a difficult pitch he was all set to bat deep but for an unfortunate dismissal at 54.

Young Babar scored 30 more runs than kohli in 2019 World Cup . Remember kohli led india to World Cup semis in 2019 as captain in a foreign soil where as Babar failed in 2023 World Cup.

Inzamam scored in 1992 semis and kept missing in all other World Cup matches. Kohli scored a hundred in knock out against NZ in 2023 World Cup. Stop being biased and normalize your hatred with false claims.

The final pitch was rubbish and difficult to score, pathetic . Home crowd preassure in World Cup is unimaginable . Ask Imran who lost in 1987 against Australia or kapil who lost against England in home conditions.

Virat has cemented his place as one of the ATG. He is a prolific white ball legend. 100 in a semi-final and then back it up with another 50-plus score in the final is something that he was missing in the past. Much deserving MOTT

India star named Player of the Tournament at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup

India’s run-scoring machine Virat Kohli has been named the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Player of the Tournament.

Kohli’s brilliance with the bat was a defining feature of the tournament, with India’s number three scoring at least a half-century in nine of his 11 innings.

His 765 runs in the tournament is the most ever scored by an individual batter at a men’s Cricket World Cup, surpassing the previous record set by Sachin Tendulkar, who hit 673 in the 2003 tournament.

Kohli finished with an average of 95.62 and a strike rate of 90.31 in the tournament, hitting three centuries along the way – against Bangladesh and South Africa in the league stage and then once more against New Zealand in the semi-finals.

That third century took Kohli’s career tally to 50 One Day International hundreds, making him the leading century-maker in the history of the format.

Kohli broke Tendulkar’s long-standing record at the ‘Little Master’s’ home ground, the Wankhede Stadium, and said that it was the perfect moment.

"This all feels like a dream," Kohli said after his 117 steered India to the final.

"If I could paint the perfect picture, I would want this to be the picture. My life partner, the person I love the most, she is sitting there. My hero Sachin is sitting there. I was able to get the 50th in front of them and these fans in such a historic venue. It’s amazing."

Kohli finished his tournament with yet another half-century, hitting 54 from 63 balls against Australia in the final. But his efforts proved in vain as India missed out on victory, falling at the final hurdle.

ICC

Undoubtedly one of the ATG in white ball after the record-breaking performance in supposedly his last ICC ODI World Cup campaign. Tests? i doubt but in white ball he is at the top i believe.

When india do away with chokers like this mentally weak kohli then they will start winning again. Titles that is. Its all about him at the moment. It's a tesm game. India isn't a functional unit when he plays. Same as us with babar.

Atg sure. Goat, please

In top 20 max

46 averaging batsman in tests.

In odi ok he is top 10 maybe.

Kohli plays as the team requires him to play.

He has every gear as a batter and that shows in his stats and innings.

He was given the role to play through the innings in this WC. He and Rohit both acknowledged that.

Rohit had decided post the 2022 world T20 that India needs to start explosively in the powerplay and he took the onus on himself.

So Kohli had to do the anchoring role.

A younger Kohli has played many so called "Impact" innings, his role has since changed.

ATG for sissy’s.

A Yuvraj Singh level player (without any cricket balls though)

It is really strange that someone like Virat Kohli who is batting alongside Rohit, KL, Gill, Iyer, Sky, Pandya etc has to play the anchoring role. Whereas fans across both the borders expect Babar Azam to attack from the first ball. He has been batting alongside inconsistent players for all his life. :inti

If he was week he would not have played multiple t20 knock out innings including the 26 off 8. A world cup semifinal century And a 50 in final is no mental weakness. Be a fan of babar or any one you like, do not leave cricketing sense.

He was part of 2011 odi world cup 2013 champions trophy final and led team to semis/finals. Holds the record of beatinf aus 2-1

Its the indian middle order post yuvraj dhoni raina that is choking ever Since. Kohli plays at number 3 , definitely not choker

Australia did not fear the “GOAT” batsmen Virat Kohli at all. All of their planning centered around getting Shreyas Iyer out as early as possible because they thought he was the one who would do the most damage. They were perfectly content to have Kohli and Rahul batting together for as long as they wanted.

Even in the semi final where he finally managed to score some runs, out of the 6 batsmen who came out to bat for India, he was the 5th best. Even during New Zealand’s innings Daryl Mitchell played a better innings than Kohli has ever played in the semi finals of an ODI WC and Williamson also was timing the ball much better. So at best, he was the 5th or 6th best batsmen of the day? If Shami has not came back and taken 2 wickets in one over, Kohli’s century could have been a match losing one.

Call him a white ball all time great if you want, but never talk about him in the same tier as Sir Vivian Richards. In Test, he’s not even in any conversation about greatness - there’s numerous batsmen with similar or better records.
