[VIDEOS] Shan Masood as Pakistan Test captain performance watch

A lot of people might not know this. But Shan Masood's paternal uncle Waqar Masood Khan is currently serving as a Finance advisor to PM Kakar. He seems to be an important member of the caretaker government.

I wonder if that has any connection to his appointment as captain.
Shan Masood's father has big connections in PCB. Rashid and Latif on there show don't criticise him much because of his father.
It is a highly nepotistic selection, I mean he is averaging 28 and there are so many Pakistani players slogging off in domestics.
What kind of message does this send to those guys.

This is death knell of Pakistan Test Cricket if such kind of people are made captain.

kaptaan sab already in catch 22, when he will sit down to pick 4 fast bowler who can get 20 wikets, impossible task

Mr. 10% and Zaka are on a mission to destroy our cricket. Our country is going down big time! First they got rid of Imran Khan and now this! God help us all

Pcb solution to replace a nepotisitc captain is to bring another nepotisitc captain?
How is Babar a nepotistic captain ? He was appointed captain because how his performance was with the bat
Of course not enough experience as a captain but thought he would learn and adapt quickly but that belief was shattered as he seems lacking a lot and still making grave mistakes as a captain.

One thing's for Pakistan fan , don't criticized too much if Pakistan lost to Australia 0-3 .

Is Shan’s uncle running Yorkshire county as well that he got favors there? Conspiracy-istan need to understand that batting skills are different from leadership skills.

This must be a joke, surely ? There must be someone in Pakistan who can average more than 28 in test cricket and is not 34 years old and does not respond to the name Babar ?

What a sorry state of affairs.

Shan was not even finding a spot in the team and now he is going to be captain for the Australian tour. What has Pakistan cricket come down to? Shan has been a good leader but struggling to find a spot in the squad and is now made captain.

Babar promoted nepotism beyond belief. So will shan bur shan is a product of it as well

One angle I didn’t consider, but Shan is 34. Does PCB see him as a temporary appointment? Considering he averages 28 across his career, who knows how much further that could fall as he continues aging.

Who knows, maybe he performs really well, but even that wouldn’t take away from the fact that this appointment makes zero sense considering his record.

His appointment makes perfect sense.

Go to dad and say daddy help me and voila

All the ex-cricketers are supporting Shan.. Basit Ali, Afridi, Azhar Ali, Latif etc.
Shan's dad is well known big wig. Whole Pakistani society seems to have adapted this culture of not questioning nepotism.

It’s the same old issue of Karachi v Lahore mafias. Everyone from Karachi has no option but to support Shan now, since Sarfraz pretty much spit on their faces by refusing the Test captaincy.

those who going on about that shan will fail in Australia just something little from the t20 worldcup held in Australia last year year.

Using T20 stats to justify test captaincy selection?

Shan Masood being test captain shows that pcb dont really care about tests.

Probably cuz Pakistan will play very few tests in the next 5 overs

Using T20 stats to justify test captaincy selection?
Sir if you read the and post and not only look at the stats I'm not justifying test captaincy with t20 stats I'm justifying shan is not a poor player in Australia compared to previous captain

Shan: It is such an honor to use my daddy to erm I mean it is such an honor to lead Pakistan test side 👀

Now, everybody knows where to go and whom to approach to get selected. The Akmal brothers have consistently approached Mian Sahab in order to secure their selection, and we will see if it works for sure. I anticipate Umar Akmal's selection in the T20 next year.

Shan has a history of gaining selection based on his father's position. He must have submitted his papers to General Sahab in order to obtain that captaincy cap

YORKSHIRE SKIPPER MASOOD IS PAKISTAN’S NEW TEST CAPTAIN

Shan Masood has been appointed as Pakistan’s new Test captain after Babar Azam stepped down from his leadership role across all three formats.

Pakistan’s group stage exit in the ongoing World Cup has brought about change, with Shaheen Shah Afridi to lead the side in the T20 formats. With no scheduled ODIs in the coming months, a captain in that format has yet to be appointed by the PCB.

Masood, 34-years-old, has just completed the first of a two-year overseas deal as Yorkshire’s captain, in which he scored 720 runs in seven LV= Insurance County Championship matches at an average of 60.

The left-hander has since returned home to Pakistan domestic cricket over the last month-and-a-half, enjoying significant success.

Masood has been playing for the Karachi Whites, helping them to win the four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, scoring 180 and 51 in last month’s final win over Faisalabad.

His latest cricket has come in the one-day Pakistan Cup, which has reached semi-final stage.

Karachi face Multan in Rawalpindi on Friday (4.30am UK).

In six appearances in that competition, Masood has scores of 121 not out and 99 to his name.

In fact, in all cricket since returning home from Yorkshire duty at the end of September, Masood has scored 672 runs in 12 innings at an average of 61.09.

Masood’s first assignment as the new Test skipper will be a three-Test tour to Australia from December 14 to January 6.

Pakistan then do not have any scheduled Test cricket until a two-match series against Bangladesh through August. They are then due to host England in a three-match series next October.

With the news having only just broken this afternoon, it is not yet clear how this will affect Masood’s Yorkshire commitments.

But coach Ottis Gibson said: “The first thing to say is, ‘Congratulations to him’.

“We don’t know what it means for us yet. We’ll have to sit down and have a look at it in terms of what Test Cricket Pakistan have next year and what his availability is going to be like.

“But it’s happened very quickly, so it’s something we will have to sit down and have a conversation with him about and have a good look at.”

Gibson added: “During the summer just gone when he wasn’t selected for Pakistan’s World Cup squad, Shan was very disappointed. But he’s performed well on the back of that, for us and at home over the last few weeks.

Shan's dad is well known big wig. Whole Pakistani society seems to have adapted this culture of not questioning nepotism.

Uncle not dad is the real big wig.

Although at this point in time I do see some pros to making him captain but all those pros are outweighed by the very fact that on pure merit and performance he wouldn't make the first XI in any format. The only format in which Shan's inclusion could be justified to some extent is tests and that too only if it comes at the expense of Imam. However, if Imam stays then the test team will be worse off as either Salman or Saud, both of whom have been really good additions will have to make way for Shan. I don't see this experiment lasting long unless Shan has something surprising in store with the bat.

Some posters here were crying about injustice to Sharjeel, Imad and now supporting Shan. Lol.
Fair is fair

Makafaat-E-aml as they say.

Why are you crying though? Babar was given the opportunity to lead the side against Australia. An extraordinary result could have given him an extension as Test leadership. He himself abandoned the ship.

Mr. 10% and Zaka are on a mission to destroy our cricket. Our country is going down big time! First they got rid of Imran Khan and now this! God help us all
Oh no! Looks like we are doomed…..

Its his father. His father is Mansoor Masood Khan. He was a banker and was inducted into the governing board of PCB in 2014 as a representative of UBL.

Baffling that a talent like Riz has not been given a chance to lead PCT in any format. The world for now got robbed of witnessing his shenanigans as a leader.
English speaking parchi with average in 20s has been chosen to lead Test team ahead of once in a lifetime talent like Riz.

Once again Pakistani sence has prevailed. :inti

Uncle is Waqar Masood Khan. Father is also a beneficiary rather than the actual big wig himself.

Explain to us why Rizwan deserved to lead?

The world has witnessed Riz's shenanigans as a player. Now it was time to witness 2x 3x of the same as a leader.
The world got robbed. :inti

His father Mansoor Masood Khan, apart from being a professional banker, always had an interest in sports, himself playing hockey at provincial level while loving cricket as well and encouraging his son to be invested in the field.[4] Mansoor became a member of the governing board in the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2014.[5]

His paternal uncle Waqar Masood Khan is a retired civil servant specialized in Islamic economics who has worked in Imran Khan's cabinet as a special assistant for finance and revenue during 2020-2021, his elder sister died in 2021 while his younger brother Ali is a barrister.
[6]

Currently his father is CEO of UBL, a big entity in Pakistan and sponsors Pakistan cricket.
His Uncle is politically well connected and is part of current PM's team as well.

A person with test average of 28 becomes captain. I am really wondering how the kids playing domestic cricket, averaging
40-50 must be feeling right now.

What's the issue?

Shan recently scored 123, 86, and a 192 in English county in September

In terms of quality it's far bigger than anything pakistan ever produced including PSL

This guy is 34 years old and averaging just 28 with the bat.
Is it really a good decision to make him captain when you have established player like Rizwan in your team?

Father isn't CEO of UBL. He was associated with UBL in the past though.

To be fair to Shan, he is a hard working guy and not all of his achievements can be attributed to his father or uncle but there will always be questions about his selection.

Same they would have thought when likes of Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan were drafted in the squads for all formats and projected as brands. They were given superstar treatment just on the basis of performances in the leagues. This is the reason why some top performers in the domestics are moving to the US. Some fans make fun of Imad for "sitting on TV" instead of playing domestics but they forget is that same guy toiled hard for years in domestics and earned his place in the Pakistan side. He is 36 and the previous skipper didn't like him so he didn't do anything wrong to take decision of playing USA league, t10 league and other tier 3 leagues where he could make some money.

Shan definitely deserves credit in that regard.

He's maximized his limited talent and that comes from his underlying work ethic. Someone else with his skillset wouldn't have made it this far.

That work ethic might bode well for him while leading the troops. But it's only going to work if he performs with the bat or it will look silly.

I think it's a good move. It's a relief to have someone with a brain as captain. He's had experience captaining in first class cricket in England and performed well there and in domestic cricket in Pakistan. Those calling for the likes of Saud to be captain or Abdullah, are you serious? Saud doesn't look anything like a leader and Abdullah is just making his start as a player.

Its the same old story with pakistan cricket. A player who was not even regular in the playing eleven is made the captain.

Hope all ok for Shan.

There are concerns regarding Shan Masood after he and Sarfaraz Ahmed were involved in a nasty on-field collision during the second semi-final of the Pakistan Cup 2023-24 between Karachi Whites and Multan at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

While Karachi Whites were defending 281-run target against Multan, a crucial moment arose at the 8.2 overs mark, with Multan at 34/2, when Sohaib Maqsood struck the ball high into the air. Both Masood and Sarfaraz sprinted to claim the catch, resulting in a severe collision.

While Sarfaraz managed to get back on his feet after the collision, Masood appeared to be in considerable discomfort, clutching his ankle in pain. Masood walked off the field, leaving everyone concerned about the severity of his injury.

This guy is 34 years old and averaging just 28 with the bat.
Is it really a good decision to make him captain when you have established player like Rizwan in your team?
On what basis does rizwan become captain? Do you wish to burn our reviews in the first 2 balls of the match?

Shan Masood today made a useful contribution of 41 runs off 38 balls while playing for Karachi Whites against Multan in the second semi-final of Pakistan Cup. His opening partnership of 106 runs with Saim Ayub was crucial for his team to put up a good total on board that proved to be the winning total in the end.

Comics continue in Pakistan cricket. How can you make a player captain who isn't your regular player ?

Still waiting to see which team Shan Masood will be given for the Australia tour.

If Sarfaraz is selected for Tests in Australia, he will be the best mentor for Shan.

I m just happy babar is no longer captain. Shan Masood might not be a good player but he will surely be much better than Babar Azam.

Shan would make team on merit instead of imam the parchi ul haq.
And the merit is averaging 14 in last 19 innings with a career avg of 28.

Shan Masood is the best option. He literally just scored a 180 in the QEA Cup final and a ton of runs in the County Championship.

He just might surprise everyone. What worse can happen for PCT on Australia tour? His leadership experience in the County might come handy.

Shan is already 34 years old and has achieved nothing in international cricket.

He averages 28 in test cricket and it is highly debatable if he even has a place in the playing 11.

Regardless of how he does going forward, he did not merit captaincy.

Such selections and promotions is what is wrong with Pakistan.

Shan Massod got injured when he clashed with Sarfraz Ahmed during the 1st Semi-final of Pakistan Cup 2023-24. He also didn't play today in the final against Peshawar region. Hope he is doing fine as the Australian tour is just around the corner.

He didn't play in the final for precautionary reasons.

He had some swelling after the collision, but he's ok.

So Pakistan newly appointed Test Captain with a novice coaching staff and a mediocre squad will travel to Australian shores to challenge the side which has WTC and WC titles, amazing contest

I think it's time we stopped being so invested in Pak cricket. There is no long term vision or planning. Once you understand that, then making a player like Shan Masood who isn't even a regular player captain makes sense. No sense spending time/energy on something that is run so poorly like pakistan cricket, sad to say.

Javed Miandad about Shan Masood’s Appointment:

"Those who doesn't understand cricket removed Babar Azam from captaincy,"

"Sarfaraz Ahmed should not only be included in the team against Australia, but due to his experience, he should have been the captain,"

Shan Masood seems to be sweating hard at the training camp. I hope he scores two centuries in this Australia tour 2023-24.

Shan practicing hard but will he do any better than the previous captains on tour in Australia?

Mohammad Hafeez in today's press conference was asked if the change in captaincy impacted the dressing room in any way. This was his reply:

“Whenever you are made captain, you have added responsibility but as an ambassador of your country, it does not really matter whether or not you are made captain, as your contribution is required for the team. Babar Azam continues to be one of the most important players in the team and he has contributed to the best of his abilities wherever he can, even now during the camp. He has also been helping Shan Masood, whenever he has been consulted in the field during training. Babar’s contribution to Pakistan cannot be denied as he has done incredibly for the team whether as a batter or during his tenure as captain. Whoever has been made captain for Pakistan is deserving of the post. Shan is learning every day on the job and is a very well-rounded individual. Similarly for Shaheen Shah Afridi as well, as both have room for tactical and technical growth. These are good signs for Pakistan."

At best I pray for the second coming of Michael Vaughan (the version in the twilight of his career).

That man amused me with his batting and thrilled with his specialist leadership skills and excellent English, backed up by a solid education.

So after grooming Babar for 4 years now we are starting again with room for tactical and technical growth and how are these good signs for Pakistan , not sure what Hafeez was inferring from it.

With already a bang average team all Pakistan needed was stability and continuity but heck we changed the captain and are back square 1

Feel for shan, the boy first tour as captain come against aussies also in Australia. It could be a make or break point for the longevity of his career as test captain.

Was against his selection based on past performances, but hoping for the absolute best. Hopefully he has a good series with the bat as well. If we want any hope at all of drawing or winning a match we will probably need bucket loads of runs from at least one of our openers and from Shan and Babar.

If Shan somehow pulls 1 win from this tour then he will be praised in Pakistan. Winning in Australia is not easy to be honest and this is going to be a tough tour for Shan and co.

Shan Masood, completed the first of a two-year overseas deal as Yorkshire's captain, in which he scored 720 runs in 7 county Championship matches at an average of 60.

There is nothing to feel, Smith in his early 20’s had much bigger obstacles in his path when he toured England.

Shan has been given multiple free runs in the team and has now been honoured with the Test captaincy. If he doesn’t take this with both hands it’s on him.

Exactly. He’s living the dream of players who are more talented than him AND put in more work. Our talent pool might be low, but this guy is scraping at the bottom of the barrel.

All it took was having Abba and Mamu jaan work at PCB + able to hold a conversation in English.

Even his English and conversation skills are hyped up as some Marc Anthony type orator 🤡 🤡

Finally a Test captain who has actual captaincy experience on the big stages and can walk the talk. Thankfully, gone are the days of Sarfraz and Babar.
Walk the talk would be actually performing.

Right now he is just talking the talk.

34 year old with 28 average :ROFLMAO:

Have you forgotten the pedigree of our former test captains?

I hope he magically becomes a 45+ average batter with a great tactical mind but cricket really is a game of averages and numbers never lie. This is just the symptom of the train wreck.
