What's new

West Indies v India | 1st Test | North Sound | Jul 21-25, 2016 | Day 3

Full pace attack this morning but no wickets.

How surprising.

lol.

Bring on the spinners Kohli. Let's face it. Either they have to get wickets or we are screwed.

Mishra ji comes and Bishoo gone.

We wasted 15 overs getting out this night watchman.

Should have had spin from one end.

India would do well to win the match here. 3 matches out of the last 4 games here have been draws.

And knowing our bowlers...:yk

The only thing interesting about the match is the interval talk between Bishop, Sunny and Viv at Lunch.

LOL except Gabriel everyone else can bat but WI are looking to just survive and draw this match which will give us the opportunity to attack more.

I am liking this 5 bowlers strategy there is no respite for opposition and no one is over used. If we can pick 20 wickets on this pitch would boost our bowlers confidence sky high.

2007 WC and the new grounds which were constructed for it's sake are cr**

Last 9 years I have hardly seen crowds for any test or odi match because of these distant/ out of city grounds

Terrific lines by Shami! When was the last time anyone saw an Indian bowler so relentless outside the off stump?!

4 down now, minnows will be minnows. I called it right at the start of the Test. WI will get 300 max, then Kohli will bat again and get a quick 150-200 setting WI ~450 to win and they'll fall short by at least 150 runs.

Shamiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Bro...India batted for a bit longer for that 576 to make sure we don't bat again.

WI are getting follow on unless they actually avoid it.

What a fine spell this.. I'm thrilled to see an Indian pace bowler deliver those peaches! Shami you beauty!!!!!!!!

Brilliant spell of fast bowling from Shami here. Bowling some seriously superb deliveries at the batsmen.

Unless West Indies get shot out for a paltry total, I don't see the point of making our bowlers bowl continuously on this flat pitch and end up getting knackered in the 1st match of a 4 match series.

We hardly see follow-on these days as captains give bowlers a rest, when was the last follow-on anywhere?

We also hardly see any team playing 5 GENUINE bowlers these days, Kohli has been doing this even since he took over captaincy and so far it's DAMN good.

Follow on will depend on number of overs we will bowl in this innings.

Why did we pick 5 bowlers?

WI are half down and Mishra and Ash haven't even got a proper spell to get into zone. ;-)

They got a bit here and bit there.

Kohli has got 5 bowlers for this very reason.

Keep attacking.

All praise to Lord Ram! Our pacer demolishing Windies. Pakistan getting destroyed by England. A great day for right minded people throughout the world. Jai Shri Ram ! :)

Brathwaite has batted beautifully so far. Hope he continues. I want to see how Kohli reacts to frustration..

I felt he struggled a bit against spinners and tried to hide it via aggression.

But didn't get tested much against them.

Well we have 5 bowlers and if we finish the test a day or two sooner, it will be extra rest for the team

Ok, what is this great year meme? What am I missing?

India play NZ, Aus, Eng at home along with this WI series and a Bangladesh one off.

Pakistan play Eng, NZ and OZ away.

You will simultaneously be able to see India rocking and Pakistan being rocked. Double the mazaa.

West Indies are over attacking. Why can't they just rotate the strike?

Looks like Ishant's mentoring has helped Shami and Yadav. sensible-indian-fan

Wow indian fast bowling has been amazing to watch...looks like I missed a lot of it as I was watching Pakistan fast bowlers bowl against England

While the gap between India and Pakistan might be marginal in tests at the moment, it will be significant within another year of Kohli's captaincy.

The very best test captains create situations where a match will likely have a result, and then back themselves and their team to win more often that not.

We have seen this throughout Kohli's very small test captaincy career.

The very first test was Adelaide where he himself played one of the best 4th innings of our times on a crumbling pitch to try and force a positive result rather than trying to tuk-tuk his way to a draw.

We saw the same against South Africa with 2 pitches where any spinner would be lethal and India's current batsmen are all lulloos against spin.

And we are seeing the same against Windies where he is playing only 5 specialist batsmen to give his bowlers a fighting chance of taking 20 wickets on these slow and sluggish pitches.

It is also looking like captaincy has inspired his test batting. As it is doing for Smith as well.

Seriously?

Are we watching the same match?

He was looping, dipping the ball asking batsmen to drive all day long.

Classical off spin bowling. A touch too full at times which he needs to sort.

Was unlucky not to get any wickets. Too bad the ball bounced.

Don't watch the game SIF, watch weather report - rest is nicely in place.

Do you realize, if globalized ICC world has 12 Test playing nations, what'll happen?

Please elaborate. Should we not watch the match because it's going to rain? And what about 12 nation theory? Very vague post..

I am sorry, if I have confused you. Forget it.

Shami is really bowling with great control here.

Maybe Ashwin needs to get fielders in deep before tossing it up so much.

Last ball dipped and beat the bat but missed the stumps.

Next ball didn't dip as much and got for 4.

This is the kind of bowling Ashwin didn't do outside Asia in the past. But needs to strike a balance.

Any other day, he would have had a few wickets but today, he has gone for a bit.

Saha with 6 dismissals which is joint highest in an innings for an Indian, tied with Kirmani and Dhoni. If he gets one more

Yadav looks like a different bowler under kohli.

True, MS demoralised his pace bowlers. Really impressed with Virat's Captaincy.

But, the responsibility lies on Indian fans - not everyday he'll lead against these WI team & his aggressive Captaincy definitely 'll cost IND some match at one point; when he needs support. What he is doing would end many Series 3-1, or 3-2; instead of 1-0.

indian fast bowlers impressed big time!!! hope ashwin redeem himself in the 2nd innings or the knives will be out again

Yadav looks a different bowler albeit a weak opposition. Need this fire from pacers. Great going :kohli

On a side note why they open with a guy who almost faced 200 balls today. poor decision by WI mgt

Ishant has been swinging it very late this innings.. I get a general sense why some people rate him higher than Wahab Riaz now...

Err, because he is the specialist opener?

He's a human as well. He definitely tired after playing long innings. (Remember one of those innings by Dravid, he's the opener and the last one to out (or not out), they apply followed and Dravid forced to open again only to be dismissed early). Plus there's only 13 overs left. So there isn't needed to him open innings, someone like Holder can hold 13 overs.
