What's new

West Indies v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Roseau, Dominica | May 10-14, 2017 | Day 4

Make your own minds up

If you think this team can't bat at 4 RPO to set up a declaration then I don't know what to tell you

Ball clearly touching the ground...

It is so clear.

Harsh on Babar Azam, but improves Pakistan's chances of winning!

Why do I say that?

They need to bowl 10 overs tonight to guarantee 20 overs with the second new ball tomorrow. Misbah is too conservative to declare, so ideally Pakistan needs to be all out 170 just after Tea!

I agree with that . . What Pakistan needs is to be 300 ahead . . WI won't chase 300 on the last day . . and because Misbah is conservative, if the team bats well, he won't declare until tomorrow . . so I want them to be 300 ahead and get bowled out by tonight . . that would present us the best chance to win, I think

That ball clearly bounced.

My god are people watching something else here?!?!?!

I'm sorry, "it clearly bounced?" What replay were you watching?

It was inconclusive at best. Nothing clear about it either way. Maybe taking the green tinted glasses might help.

Also unless his fingers extend out suddenly by 4-5 inches it is humanely impossible for fingers to be under the ball.

Look at my post three posts before this one.
Big mac's gif which I quoted.

Just expand the gif and you can see it literally bounce on the ground

My 12 year old said "Not Out" the moment he saw the replay.. Absolutely pathetic Umpire decision.

I would be embarrassed if I was representing the WI here ...

I've seen it numerous times on Sky. I don't need to see a gif to know what I saw. It's inconclusive. The supposed bounce "could" also be because the fingertips are underneath the ball.

Without the front-on camera you cannot judge it either way. Angles can be deceiving at times, that's why the umpire's decision stood.

Oh my good god.

The ball bounces on the ground.

I am not taking sides here. It was a Windies batsmen I would be doing the same.

You're right it could go either way. Inconclusive.

Umpires screwing Pakistan in the Caribbean. Surely, we have seen this before.

Camera angles or not, you can see it touch the ground. You should also concentrate on the fingers, unless they suddenly grow by 4-5 inches, no way could they have been under the ball.

300 will be match winning target here. I hope Misbah will finish his career with 100.

Pakistan is in a very good position from where only they should be able to win.

But they way they are playing is ultra defensive which only brings the opposition back into the contest.

I would promote Sarfaraz to 5, in between YK and Misbah.

Will ensure the score board keeps ticking.

Once again you're missing the point. Zooming in will only show the back-end-view of the angle, not the front side. Zoom in how much ever you want, the inconclusive nature doesn't change the fact the umpire has the final say because he thought it was out.

It's like with snicko and ultra-edge, if there's inconclusive footage of proof, the umpire gets to decide the final outcome.

Another reason why I'm very critical of the Waqar era. He persisted with his underperforming golden boys in Rahat and Wahab for too long.

Waqar likes bowlers who bowls phaassstt. I doubt a player like Abbas would have debuted under Vicki.
He neglected Sadaf because he couldnt bowl fast.

Now hopefully nobody gets out for a while because I'm eating :mv

If Pakistan scores another 120 runs then there's no way Windies are chasing that against Abbas and Amir

If a 12 year old said it, it must be true Lmao...

Look I understand the soft dismissal aspect and all that..

I've seen enough of these replays for catches, some overturning the umpires call and some not. Point is that I've never seen a replay that is so conclusive in that the ball touched the ground and then for the tv umpire to uphold the umpires decision.

It's just so obvious that the ball bounced off of the ground

It is not as conclusive as you are suggesting from one camera angle. On field call was out too. Cudve gone either way. Now move on...

It's not conclusive, nor is it obvious the ball bounced. We'll agree to disagree here. Move on.

If Shan gets fifty runs from edges to third man he will become my new hero

Pitch isn't as bad as these batsmen are making it out. They've just slowed down the whole Test for the masses. The only issue is the footholes for the spinners and the bounce they're getting.

Honestly if they wanted to, the players can play quicker. Both sides have been abysmal in that regard.

For a supposed educated cricketer, Shan Masood sure as hell hasn't learnt where his off-stump is and why he keeps leaving his bat outside off to be edged.

edit :

Bishop now saying the same thing :D

But anyway, better for Pakistan to be 170 all out in 45 overs (and get two new balls and 100 overs to defend 310) than to declare at 210-5 in 80 overs and only get 70 overs to bowl West Indies out.

Yep, agreed. That's the only way you'll get Misbah's arm twisted.

Windies won't last even 50 overs on day 5 pitch. Just play slow and steady for now. Pile up 250 leqd

The longer Pakistan bat here the better chances WI will have of saving the Test, and giving their great fans some deserved grace.

I don't want Salman Butt back due to his age, but it's a travesty that Shan Masood was recalled after 1 x 100 and 2 x 50 in QEA cricket whereas Salman Butt was literally twice as good.

:yk2

Dropped catches>edges. Nothing will beat that glorious Shehzad innings.

Shezhad's knock was on another level, that was a genuine masterclass and beyond the ken of us mortals. He is too good to be my hero for I cannot truly understand his genius.

Batsman not looking comfortable hopefully YK can score at least 50 in his last ever innings.

Yk makes batting vs spin look so easily. Him ,Amla, and Sangakara are probably the best 3 players of spin in the last few years of test cricket.

Don't want to miss Younis Khan batting for the last time in international cricket. Hope we get one last special knock in a crunch situation.

Not easy to get set on this pitch as a batsman, can't always predict the bounce plus there's turn and bounce for the spinners.

Hopefully Sarfraz is promoted. Can't take a chance of Misbah potentially playing a innings of 1 off 50 balls.

If this was done in the 1st innings, Pakistan would have been in a stronger position

If we don't win this match it won't be because of the run rate in the first four sessions, it will be because the bowlers only took 5 wickets in 100 overs.

The run rate in the 1st innings didn't help matters.

Partnership going at 3.49 RPO.

Hopefully we can reach 160 before stumps.

I hope YK does score big but would rather Pakistan win the match before anything else.

Hopefully we end up with around 220 runs by the end of days play. That would give us a 349 Run lead.

how much does Younis need to score to have his average above Yousuf and Miandad?

On the fifth day Yasir is going to be a huge threat expecting Yasir to blow the Windies away.

Of course. Batsman deserve no blame whatsoever.

If we can get to a 200 run lead without losing another wicket, I would promote Sarfraz then.

We don't need that many runs - even a 280-290 lead could be enough. Batting on the 5th day on Caribbean pitches can be very tough.

Of course. Batsman deserve no blame whatsoever.

Batsmen deserve blame for throwing their wickets away on a dead pitch preventing us from being able to really accelerate on day two and put 400+ on the board, not for batting slowly in the first four sessions of the game.

Such an honor to be watching this batting legend one last time. The quick doubles, loud calls... Singles, it's all coming back. :yk
