Water Flung At Senior Historian Irfan Habib In DU Arts Faculty Ambush During Speech

Senior historian Irfan Habib was targeted with a water bucket during a speech at DU's Arts Faculty. The incident has triggered a campus face-off between AISA, which had organised the event at which Habib was speaking, and ABVP.

Senior historian S Irfan Habib was targeted during a Delhi University event on Thursday when some unidentified individuals flung a bucket of water at him. Habib was delivering a speech during the People's Literature Festival: Samta Utsav at the Arts Faculty when the incident happened. Videos circulating online show Habib speaking when a blue bucket filled with water is hurled at him from behind. The senior historian is momentarily taken aback by the sudden act, but after a brief pause, continues with his address.
The event was organised by Left-affiliated All India Students' Association (AISA) parallel to the university's official literature festival that opened the same day. Several academics were present at the gathering when the water was thrown.

Habib had been speaking for nearly 20 minutes before the disruption. Recalling the moment, he said, "I was invited to speak by the students. Some 200 students had gathered. I had just begun my address and spoken for about 20 minutes when suddenly water from a bucket was thrown from a wall behind me. For a few seconds I was unsettled, but then I continued. It is disturbing and shocking for me. Universities are places for diverse voices which should be respected."

Clips of the incident quickly circulated on social media, triggering a political blame game on campus.

AISA alleged that members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) were responsible for the act. The ABVP, however, denied any role, calling it "a deliberate attempt to malign the organisation". Its Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma called the allegations "completely baseless and false" and accused Left groups of "spreading misinformation".

AISA Event In Protest Against Official DU Event

AISA said it had organised the parallel festival in protest, calling the official event "a platform for regressive propaganda and communal rhetoric". Sessions at the alternative festival included discussions on "Caste in Society and University" and "Anti-Caste Poetry and Songs", along with a call for implementing the proposed UGC Equity Regulations, 2026.
During his speech, Habib spoke about what he called "attempts at historical erasure", and stated that universities must resist distorted interpretations of the past.

In Lucknow, School Suspends Students For Eating 'Too Much Chowmein'

When the school principal learned about the incident, the administration announced a two-day suspension for the students.

Lucknow:
When a group of students in Uttar Pradesh helped themselves to chow mein at a school farewell party, being suspended for eating it “too many times” was probably the last thing they expected. The incident took place at St. Mary's School in the Chinhat area during the Class 10 farewell event. According to students, some Class 9 students went to the food counter and took chow mein three or four times.

Suspension Announced Through WhatsApp Voice Note

When the school principal learned about the incident, the administration announced a two-day suspension for the students. The decision was communicated through a voice note shared on the school's official WhatsApp group. "This message is for the students who were creating a ruckus at the chow mein counter. Those who ate it 3-4 times, even using their hands, are suspended for two days," the voice note said. The message stated that the students would be informed via the same group whether they should return to school after the suspension period.

Students Claim They Were Sent Back From School

The following day, when the students arrived at school as usual, they alleged that the principal sent them back home. Some students claimed they were chased away with a stick. After returning home, the children informed their families about the incident. The matter soon drew protests from family members, although no parent has publicly commented on the issue so far.

After the incident gained wider attention, the school administration asked the students to return to school. Responding to the controversy, the school said that such behaviour had not occurred in the institution over the past 25 years. The administration claimed the students had misbehaved at the food counter and described the suspension as a disciplinary action.

Class 10 Student Punches Teacher After Argument in Andhra Pradesh School - Video Goes Viral - WATCH

A Class 10 student allegedly punched a teacher during an argument at a government school in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district, with a video of the incident going viral on social media.

A Class 10 student at a government high school allegedly attacked a teacher in the classroom during an argument in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district. The incident, which took place at Veeravalli Zilla Parishad High School in Bapulapadu mandal, was captured on camera. As per a report by NDTV, the incident took place when the teacher reportedly reprimanded the student during school hours - turning a routine warning into a heated scuffle.
During the argument, the student can be seen punching the teacher, causing panic among students and staff at the classroom. The incident came to light after a video of the the moment surfaced on social media and went viral. he video also shows the student confronting the teacher before the physical assault.

Sources as cited by a NDTV report said the student later claimed he reacted after the teacher allegedly used abusive language about his mother during the argument. School authorities reported the incident to the education department and the police, which summoned the student, who is a minor, for questioning and counselling.

The incident comes days after a class 12 student allegedly attacked and harassed a female teacher in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri, sending shockwaves across the city. The incident happened in broad daylight when the teenager brutally attacked and cut her lips off, leaving her bleeding on the street. The boy reportedly also tried to force himself on the school teacher before attacking her with a sharp-edged weapon.
After the incident, an FIR had been lodged based on the complaint given by the teacher. The accused immediately fled the scene after attacking the teacher. The police had began the manhunt to nab the student, saying that this is not the first time he harassed the teacher, as he was involved in such activities in the past too.

Expelled Over Teachers' Meme, Court Allows Student To Take Class 10 Exam

The top court asked the school and CISCE to ensure that the boy is able to appear in the ensuing examination, scheduled to commence from February 17.

The Supreme Court on Friday allowed a minor boy, rusticated from a school in Indore for allegedly circulating an objectionable meme concerning teachers, to appear in the Class 10 examination and directed the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) to issue an admit card.

A bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan noted that the boy has already registered with the CISCE to take the examination and if not allowed, he would lose an academic year.

"In the circumstances, we direct the CISCE to permit the petitioner's son to take the examination by issuing Admit Card/Hall ticket. Having regard to the nature of the controversy, respondent no. 5 (school) is at liberty to permit the petitioner's son to appear and write the examination in a separate room and not with other students.

"Further, respondent no.5/School to conduct an internal assessment for Physical Education and Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) at the school and submit the assessment marks to respondent no.6/CISCE," the bench said.

The top court asked the school and CISCE to ensure that the boy is able to appear in the ensuing examination, scheduled to commence from February 17.

During the hearing, the bench observed orally, "Instead of reforming him, you (school) have decided to rusticate him and dissociate yourself from him. As a school, you should have taken the responsibility to reform the child but you rusticated him just because you said he was a bad boy." Advocate Nipun Saxena, who appeared for the petitioner, submitted that if the court does not permit the boy to take the examination, then he would lose an academic year.

He submitted that the rustication of the boy from the school was a disproportionate punishment and instead of taking reformatory steps, the school simply disassociated him from the school.

Saxena told the court that the boy has been pursuing his studies privately at home with the help of tutors.

The counsel appearing for the school vehemently objected to any permission being granted to the boy to take the examination as he cannot be pardoned for what he has committed.

He said the school was constrained to rusticate the boy due to his act and any order permitting him to take the examination would demoralise the school authorities.

The top court had earlier issued notice on the petition challenging an order of November last year of the Madhya Pradesh High Court which upheld the school's decision to terminate the 13-year-old student in the midst of his Class 9 academic session of 2024-2025.

The bench had observed that minors generally learn such behaviour from their surroundings and memes having communal overtones should not be encouraged.

The plea said the action has caused grave prejudice to the petitioner's son as it effectively renders it extremely difficult for him to continue his education up to Class 10 at the school.

It said registration for Class 10 is ordinarily completed during Class 9 itself according to the extant bylaws of the ICSE Board.

"The impugned decision has, therefore, severely jeopardised the continuity and stability of the petitioner's son's education," the plea said.

It alleged that the entire hoax of "protecting the reputation" of the school was a red herring, since the Instagram account was not accessible either to the public or to the school administration.

"Imposition of harsh penalties such as expulsion/rustication to a child for creating an Instagram private account with memes that are not even attributable to the child and to invoke the criminal law principle of 'deterrence' is antithetical to the established cannons of law," the plea said.

The petitioner had approached the high court against the school's decision to terminate his son last year.

School Kitchens' Administration With State: Centre On Andhra Food Poisoning

The Centre said it has taken note of multiple food and water contamination incidents in government school hostels in Andhra Pradesh.

The Centre on Monday said it has taken note of multiple food and water contamination incidents in government school hostels in Andhra Pradesh and that special inspections have been carried out across all state-run hostels following recent cases of students falling ill.

Responding to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary noted that while the Centre implements the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN) scheme in partnership with states and Union Territories, the day-to-day administration of hostels and school kitchens rests with the state governments.

The minister said the reported cases involved issues such as unclean RO plants, stagnant water tanks, and unhygienic kitchen facilities. According to information received from the state, students were admitted to hospitals immediately and were discharged safely after treatment.

PM Poshan Guidelines Already In Place, Says Centre

The Centre has already issued comprehensive safety, hygiene and quality guidelines under the scheme. These include instructions to procure Agmark-certified ingredients, train cook-cum-helpers, test food samples through accredited laboratories, and ensure meal tasting by school management committee members before serving and handwashing protocols for all school children.

Guidelines also encourage states to include locally produced millets, vegetables, and condiments in meals and to organise cooking competitions to promote varied and nutritious meals.

Andhra Pradesh Issued SOPs For Hostels After Incidents

Following the recent contamination incidents, the Andhra Pradesh government has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to strengthen hostel safety standards.

The SOP covers child safety, food and water safety, cleaning of water tanks, maintenance of RO plants, hygiene practices, reporting of untoward incidents and crisis management. Additional guidelines have also been put in place for the safety and well-being of girls residing in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs).

FSSAI Steps In With Food Safety Tools

To support food safety efforts, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has prepared a Food Safety Guidebook for teachers and students and created a digital playlist titled 'How to check for adulteration". Mobile Food Safety on Wheels vans have also been deployed to conduct training and awareness sessions in remote areas.

The Ministry added that states observe Poshan Maah and Poshan Pakhwada annually, organising activities related to nutrition, hygiene, and healthy eating, such as rallies, school-level competitions, and awareness campaigns.

States Asked To Ensure Strict Compliance

Though the Centre reiterated the importance of adhering to the PM-POSHAN guidelines, it did not announce any new centralised inspection mechanism. It emphasised that operational responsibility remains with state administrations.

‘I Love You’: Odisha Headmaster Proposes to Married Former Student, Sends Obscene Messages

In Odisha, a headmaster has been accused of harassing a married former student, igniting local outrage and raising concerns about teacher-student relationship boundaries.

In a troubling incident from Odisha, a school headmaster has been accused of harassing a married former student, raising serious concerns about the boundaries of teacher-student relationships. The case emerged from the Bhadreswar Police Station area in Cuttack district and has sparked outrage among locals.

According to the complaint filed with the police, the accused, currently serving as a headmaster at a secondary school, allegedly approached his former student, a married woman, with a romantic proposal. The complainant further stated that the teacher repeatedly sent her inappropriate messages on her mobile phone, causing her significant distress and discomfort.

The victim told authorities, “He is sending obscene messages and saying, ‘I love you.’ I am a married woman, and he is also married. Despite that, he continues to send such inappropriate messages. I was his student and studied under him. When I questioned his behaviour, he said he was just testing me.”

The accusations highlight a serious breach of trust, especially given the teacher-student dynamic. The woman expressed her discomfort and concern, emphasising that such behaviour is unacceptable and alarming.
When approached for comment, the accused headmaster denied all allegations and refused to speak on camera. He claimed he was unaware of the complaints and insisted that he had done nothing wrong. He also stated that he would seek legal counsel to defend himself.

Police confirmed that they began efforts to locate the headmaster after the complaint. Reports later indicated that he surrendered before a court and was granted bail. Authorities have stated that further legal proceedings will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

This incident has reignited discussions about the importance of accountability in educational institutions. Experts and community members stress that students must be protected not only while enrolled in schools but also after they leave, and that any violation of trust by teachers should be met with strict legal action. The case underscores the need for clear policies and monitoring to prevent harassment and ensure safe environments in schools.

Rewa: Class Six Student Made to Fan Principal Sitting Back with Earphones | VIDEO

A video showing a Class Six student fanning the headmistress of a government school in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, has sparked significant criticism regarding the treatment of economically disadvantaged children in government schools.

A student in Class Six was seen waving a fan for the headmistress of a government school in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. The video drew sharp criticism towards her, with viewers raising questions about how government-run schools treat children coming from economically challenged backgrounds. It also caught the attention of Collector Pratibha Pal, who called out the Department of Education (DoE) in the matter, as per media reports. The department has now launched a probe into the headmistress's alleged conduct in a classroom. The incident took place in Panasi village under the Teonthar Assembly constituency. This comes on the heels of a similar incident that occurred in Ujjain, where a teacher at a 'Gurukul' — a Vedic institution — brutally beat a student reportedly for sleeping in a fellow student's bed instead of his own.

Varsha Manjhi, the accused principal, has been posted at the school for the past two years. In the viral video, Varsha was seen relaxing in a chair while the visibly exhausted student continues to fan her. She appears disengaged, with earphones plugged in, as the child struggles beside her.

The Probe
Following the collector's orders, the Education Department formed a three-member committee, said a report by Dainik Bhaskar. The members will visit the school and interview other students.

Family Fears for Child's Future
The family of the student said they belonged to a poor and backward community. They feared that raising the issue would cost their son his future. However, they condemned the conduct of the headmistress.

I'm among the many hoping for Pakistan to become much better in education but even for me this sounds like a bad generalization and inaccurate. Indians may have many negative attributes as a society/nation/people but credit needs to be given where due even for an "enemy" nation. They have done something good as a resource constrained developing nation when it comes to education and knowledge capital. Other resource constrained South Asian nations can take a leaf out of their book that can be emulated.

US tech industry is led by so many Indians these days growing multi-billion dollar companies. The venture capital and private equity landscape in the US has so many Indians sitting in boards of companies. Investment banks and tier 1 MBB consulting firms (Mckinsey, Bain, BCG) are led by many Indian origin partners. Overlooking all of this and saying "they lack leadership qualities" is either ignorance or hate driven.

One argument here seems to be "why emulate India when we rather emulate US/UK/EU". Those are resource rich nations to begin with and their model is not immediately applicable to resource constrained developing nations for building knowledge capital through education. Overlooking this obvious fact and stressing that South Asian nations rather emulate US/UK/EU is either due to ignorance or pointless ego driven lack of acknowledgement of the accomplishment of an enemy nation.

It is true that Indians are going on a downward spiral in their hate driven government policies that also spirals to negative cultural effects. That is a perfect example for Pakistan (and other South Asian nations) for what NOT to do. At the same time, do give credit where it is due (education and knowledge capital) so that it can be emulated.

Can u explain what is this down ward spiral and what is ot affecting and how?

Ghaziabad administration initially ordered online classes on March 28 due to PM Modi's Jewar Airport inauguration event.

Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad district administration on Wednesday night withdrew its earlier order mandating online classes in all schools on March 28, directing that classes will now be held offline.

The initial directive, issued a day earlier by District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Madar, had cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to inaugurate the Noida International Airport at Jewar. It said around 800 buses were being arranged from Ghaziabad to transport beneficiaries, necessitating traffic management measures.

"To ensure the smooth conduct of the Prime Minister's programme and manage traffic arrangements, online classes will be conducted in all schools on March 28," the order had stated.

The communication was circulated to traffic police, transport officials, and education authorities, including school principals across the district.

However, in a late-night order on Wednesday, the administration cancelled the directive with immediate effect. "Classes in all schools of the district shall be conducted physically (offline) on March 28," the revised order said.
