PTI ‘shaky’ on talks after snub from Imran

Senior Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser on Friday stated that the party had not yet initiated dialogue with the government and talks could be held only after the acceptance of three demands, including release of former prime minister Imran Khan and other party activists and constitution of a judicial commission comprising senior Supreme Court judges to probe violent May 9 and Nov 26 incidents.

Speaking on a point of order in the National Assembly after registering strong protest over the continued absence of the ministers from the proceedings for a third consecutive day, Mr Qaiser refuted reports in media and political circles that the PTI had begun talks with the government following his meeting with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

“I want to make a clarification. The media has been reporting since yesterday that [govt-PTI] dialogue is taking place and my meeting with the speaker is being referred to in this connection,” he said, clarifying that he had gone there only to condole with the speaker over the demise of his sister and not to hold any dialogue.

Mr Qaiser, who had served as the NA speaker under the previous PTI government, said they had formed a committee for dialogue, but the committee would proceed under the guidance of Imran Khan only when the government would show seriousness.

The clarification from Mr Qaiser came a day after incarcerated founding chairman of the PTI Imran Khan expressed his displeasure over the party leadership for adopting a ‘positive’ posture in parliament and showing readiness to hold talks with the government.

He was also reportedly angry over the party leadership for not lodging a protest inside the National Assembly and the Senate when the two houses met for the first time after the alleged killing of the party workers due to firing of the personnel of the law enforcement agencies during the D-Chowk protest on Nov 26.

Talking to reporters at Adiala Jail during the hearing of Toshakhana case, Mr Khan had stated that the PTI leaders should not have given an impression of a friendly opposition.

On the opening day of the National Assembly’s winter session on Tuesday, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan while asking the government to hold those accountable who had allegedly opened fire on the PTI protesters had asked the government to forget the past and move forward to rectify mistakes.

Despite announcing that it would lodge a strong protest inside the parliament house over, what it called, the Islamabad massacre, the PTI had preferred to participate in the assembly proceedings in an orderly manner without creating any trouble for the ruling coalition.

Mr Qaiser said that their demands were very simple, adding that a judicial commission led by SC judges should be formed to investigate the incidents of May 9 and Nov 26 to fix responsibility.

The PTI leader said the constitution granted the right to protest to every political party, but his party was being denied this right on the pretext of a new law barring protests in Islamabad. He said this law was against fundamental rights and thus “illegal”.

“Why bullets were fired?” he asked while alleging that 12 PTI workers were ‘martyred’ on Nov 26 allegedly due to firing by security forces. He asked the government to produce evidence that the PTI protesters were violent.

Highlighting the alleged victimisation of the party, the former speaker said there was no respect for human rights in Punjab, which was “virtually under a martial law”.

He alleged that those arrested on Nov 26 were being implicated by the Punjab police in cases related to May 9 incidents. He said they did not support provincialism, but whosoever was doing it were conspiring against the country. He alleged that Pakhtun ‘community was being targeted’. Amid slogans of “shame, shame”, he said Islamabad had been made a “no-go area” for Pakhtuns.

Mr Qaiser also lashed out at the federal government for “lack of interest in addressing the deteriorating situation in Kurram and Parachinar”, saying the residents near the border had lost their livelihoods.

“Stop sowing seeds of hatred. Such behaviour is emboldening anti-state elements and causing irreparable harm to our nation” besides increasing sense of deprivation among the people of KP.

While addressing a presser at the residence of PkMAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai after a meeting of the joint opposition, Mr Qaiser resented the Supreme Court’s decision to allow military courts to continue trial of civilians in the May 9 cases and said the party was consulting lawyers to challenge the verdict.

Press conference

Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan said Imran Khan had expanded the dialogue committee by adding two more members and threatened that the party would give the call for civil disobedience if its demands were not met.

Earlier, the lawmakers protested over the absence of the ministers from the NA during the question hour for a third consecutive day forcing Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah to once again defer the questions.

Mr Shah deplored the situation and informed the members that they had already sent a letter to the prime minister to seek his intervention to ensure ministers’ presence. Previously, Mr Shah had given the ruling that the assembly proceedings would not be held if ministers would not be present in the house.

The NA will now meet on Monday evening.

No compromise on dignity: PTI

Meanwhile, PTI Senator Aon Abbas Bappi regretted the comments from the treasury benches that the ground realities had forced PTI to agree for talks.

He said PTI’s readiness for dialogue must not be misconstrued as its weakness.

He said PTI’s incarcerated founder had expressed readiness to hold dialogue in the greater national interest and it must be seen positively. He said talks will only be held on the basis of respect. “We will never compromise on our dignity,” he remarked.

Aon Abbas also warned that the ‘racial profiling’ would only weaken the federation. He regretted that holding a CNIC from KP and cities such as Mianwali and Attock had become a crime, as such people were being arrested for no reason.

The parliamentary leader of BAP in Senate, Manzoor Kakar, in his speech, chided PTI for seeking a dialogue with the military establishment. There was a time the PTI leadership used to frequently praise the then army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, he said, adding that same would be the case if the incumbent army chief starts behaving with them.

PTI condemns trial of civilians in military courts

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram Monday condemned the trial of civilians in the military courts, terming it a violation of international laws.

Talking to the media, Akram stated that all legal options would be pursued to challenge the military trials. He also vowed to thwart the government’s alleged conspiracy to ruin the economy.

Referring to the Al-Qadir Trust case, Akram questioned the delay in its judgment. “We want to know why the decision has been postponed. We fail to understand where this judgment is being written. This is a case of acquittal, and there is nothing in it,” he declared, describing the £190 million case as a blatant example of political rivalry.

The PTI information secretary accused the government of being willing to override international laws in its pursuit of muting political opponents. “The government has gone to extreme lengths of revenge, aiming to eliminate its rivals,” he alleged.

Akram further noted that the £190 million case, which he claimed was designed to punish former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, was now being debated internationally as an example of political persecution.

PM Shehbaz says govt still willing for talks with PTI

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif said the government is still willing to hold talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with sincerity and seriousness to resolve the issues.

Addressing the federal cabinet, PM Shehbaz said the government provided a conducive environment for negotiations with the PTI but the party is ‘running away and avoiding’ entering dialogue process.

He said the seriousness and sincerity of the government to hold talks with PTI can be judged from the fact that we constituted a committee with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in the chair for this purpose. He said PTI did not attend the meeting on 28th of this month and terminated the talks unilaterally.

“A committee was formed, and extensive talks took place as per their demands,” he said. “A final meeting was scheduled for January 28 in response to their written request, yet they withdrew at the eleventh hour.”

The prime minister said the country cannot afford any kind of unrest and anarchy. He said dialogue is the only way to proceed further and put the country on path of development.

New Pandora box opened in PTI about Swabi public gathering

A new Pandora box has been opened within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding the Swabi public gathering, as revelations surface about 90 per cent of the party officials spreading false information about the event.

According to details, a leaked audio from PTI's provincial official, Junaid Akbar, has unveiled new claims. In the recording, Akbar stated that he holds detailed reports, including specific information about individuals involved.

He claimed to know exactly who said what regarding the rally, naming MPs, MNAs, and other officials who misrepresented statistics.

Akbar expressed his frustration, stating that those who spread false information should be ashamed of themselves.

He also mentioned that he would forward the reports to the party founder, Imran Khan, and that he even knew what clothes some attendees were wearing at the event.

Akbar further revealed that some party officials had sent him videos from Islamabad and other programmes.

He expressed disdain for these actions, calling those involved naïve. Akbar firmly asserted that he would not support any wrongdoers and that he would not back anyone who spread lies, regardless of their status within the party.

He mentioned that holding a position within the PTI was neither a desire, necessity, nor obligation for him and stated he would be happy to have the responsibility taken away.

He also mentioned the unfortunate rise of internal factions within the party, with support given to the wrong people.

"My commitment is to not support any wrongdoer, no matter how big they may be. If I cannot stand by my principles, I will leave my position. One person cannot expel ten others and make decisions like that. Only those who work for the party will rise. I will support such people," he concluded.

PTI's internal conflict escalates as Junaid Akbar exposes misleading claims and pledges to support only those committed to the party's true cause.

PTI gets positive response for political alliance: Faisal Ch

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - We are getting positive response from opposition parties. As per the agenda of Imran Khan, we are uniting all political forces, said PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry while appearing on Dunya News programme ‘TONIGHT With Samar Abbas’ here on Saturday.

The PTI leader said JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman demanded no share in KP government. He added that restrictions were being imposed on meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan with the aim of obstructing the formation of opposition alliance.

“We want to ‘restore’ the Constitution. We need to create political atmosphere in and out of the parliament.

“Political alliance is always sensitive. Solo flight will be harmful for the PTI. JUI-F and PTI have their own demands. But Maulana Fazlur Rehman did not demand any share in KP government.

“Internal fight in PTI is not an issue. Our meetings with PTI founder have been banned,” Faisal Chaudhry said.

PTI’s Faisal Javed offloaded from Saudi Arabia-bound flight

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Faisal Javed was offloaded from a Saudi Arabia-bound flight despite having permission from the Peshawar High Court (PHC) to travel for Umrah, ARY News reported.

The PHC had earlier directed the relevant authorities to temporarily remove Javed’s name from the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL) and Exit Control List (ECL).

Javed was scheduled to depart for Umrah at 3 pm, but was stopped at the airport. Despite showing the court order, airport authorities refused to let him board the flight. Javed alleged that the government failed to remove his name from the list despite the court’s order.

Javed’s lawyer, Advocate Alam Khan Adenzai, had argued in court that his client’s name was included in the PNIL without justification, preventing him from traveling for Umrah.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Asad Qaiser, Sheikh Rasheed, Faisal Javed, were acquitted in a case related to violating Section 144.

The case was filed on August 20, 2022, at the Aabpara Police Station, accusing the former Prime Minister and his party members of violating Section 144 imposed by the authorities.

Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood announced the decision after reviewing the acquittal plea and acquitted Saifullah Niazi, Sadaqat Abbasi, and Ali Nawaz.

IHC stays arrest warrants for PTI secretary general Salman Akram

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the arrest warrant for PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja on Monday and sought a response on his petition from relevant parties within two weeks.

The petition, submitted with certain objections from registrar’s office, was taken up for hearing by the IHC division bench comprising acting chief justice Sardar Mohammad Sarfaraz Dogar and Justice Mohammad Asif.

When the PTI leader appeared before the bench to plead his case, Justice Dogar inquired about the allegations against him. Barrister Raja responded that he was accused of being involved in an attack on a police station.

With a smile on his face, the acting chief justice remarked, “So you should not do such a thing. Then, you know, it is said about you that you talk a lot.”

Mr Raja expressed surprise over the issuance of arrest warrant for him despite his regular court appearances. He cited SC’s ruling in Sughra Bibi case as a precedent, arguing that issuance of non-bailable arrest warrant was “unwarranted”.

The court noted the seriousness of the matter and assured that the objection from the registrar’s office would be removed, scheduling the next hearing for Wednesday upon the petitioner’s request.

Highlighting irregularities in the case, Barrister Raja argued that an FIR had been registered against 100 individuals, whose whereabouts remained unknown. Despite this, the authorities were actively investigating and issuing warrants.

Following the initial arguments, the court suspended the arrest warrant and issued notices to the relevant parties.

Earlier during the hearing, the court inquired about the deputy attorney general’s presence before the bench. Later, when Assistant Attorney General Usman Ghuman appeared before the bench, Justice Dogar emphasised that the court order must be implemented.

The hearing was subsequently adjourned for two weeks, with directions for all parties to submit their responses within the given time frame.

Bail granted

Separately, the court of judicial magistrate Ahmed Shehzad Gondal granted bail to nine PTI workers, who were arrested in connection with the Nov 26 protest, on a set of bail applications.

At the hearing, the counsel for the petitioners argued that the high court had already granted bail to other accused individuals in the same case. Citing Article 201 of the Constitution, he asserted that the court was legally bound to grant bail under similar circumstances.

None of the accused were arrested at the scene, he claimed, adding that they should be released forthwith as the police no longer required their custody for investigation.

Police get MPA’s custody

On the other hand, an ATC extended physical remand of a PTI member of the provincial assembly, elected from Swat, for another day in the Sangjani jalsa case.

MPA Ali Shah was produced before Judge Abual Hasanat Mohammad Zulqarnain, after the expiry of his two-day physical remand. The judge granted the request of the prosecution that sought an extension in custody for further investigation.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly lawmaker faces terrorism charges in a case registered at the Sangjani police station. The ATC directed the police to produce the MPA on Tuesday. In a separate case, registered at Islamabad’s Kohsar police station, the court granted him bail against a surety bond of Rs5,000 after reviewing arguments from both sides.

Court issues arrest warrants for PTI leaders in Azadi March cases

A district and sessions court on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for PTI leaders in the Azadi March cases.

Senior Civil Judge Muhammad Abbas Shah heard two cases related to the march, where PTI founder Imran Khan and others are nominated. None of the accused appeared before the court.

Due to their absence, the court issued arrest warrants for Ali Nawaz Awan, Raja Khurram Nawaz, and others.

The court could not hear arguments on the acquittal pleas, with Judge Abbas Shah stating that he would only consider the requests in the presence of the accused. The petitioners' lawyer argued that in previous cases, Imran Khan was acquitted despite his absence.

The hearing was adjourned until April 23.

Two cases against Imran Khan and others are registered at Kohsar Police Station.

Rift in PTI deepens as Speaker KP Assembly Babar Swati asked to resign

The rift within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has deepened as incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan has directed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati to step down, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

This development follows a recent move by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to de-notify Additional Advocate General Noroz Khan, amid reports of internal disagreements between Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur and central PTI leader Mohammad Atif Khan.

Speaking to the media after meeting with Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, senior PTI leader Azam Khan Swati said that he met the PTI founder along with two other individuals.

According to Swati, Imran Khan instructed that if the KP Committee investigating corruption allegations against party leaders reached a conclusion, then Speaker Babar Swati should resign.

Azam Swati also informed Imran Khan about the corruption issues in Mansehra and reassured him that Salman Akram Raja would not betray him.

Additionally, Swati discussed concerns regarding Junaid Akbar, President of PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the PTI founder. Swati said Imran Khan directed that Akbar’s appointments be immediately reversed.

PTI's Acting President Hammad Azhar resigns from party position

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab's Acting President Hammad Azhar resigned from his party post on Wednesday, following allegations from party leader Azam Swati.

Azhar announced his decision to step down from all party positions. In a statement issued regarding his resignation, Azhar said that Azam Swati had informed PTI founder Imran Khan that Aliya Hamza was facing obstruction in her work.

"When the PTI's founder inquired about the identity of the person causing the hindrance, Swati named me," Azhar added.

Azhar went on to say that he had asked Aliya Hamza whether she had ever faced any obstacles from him, to which she expressed surprise.

He said: "The solution to the issue was simple, as my powers had already been transferred to four regional presidents in June of the previous year."

"The organisation of my constituency had been carried out without my advice or consent," he said.

Azhar said that he had previously resigned twice, but both times his resignation had been rejected.

However, this time, he declared that his resignation was final. "As a worker, I will continue to serve my leader in the future," Azhar maintained.

He said that his resignation was irrevocable, and he would no longer seek any party position.

PTI turmoil deepens as party probes ex-minister Jhagra

PESHAWAR: Internal rifts within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have deepened as the party’s Internal Accountability Committee (IAC) launched a probe into former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finance and health minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, accusing him of financial mismanagement, governance lapses, and corruption.

According to the committee’s findings, The News reported, the former minister is alleged to have been involved in major financial irregularities, improper recruitment practices, and policy decisions that reportedly caused significant losses to the provincial government.

Jhagra, however, has firmly denied all accusations of financial misconduct, irregular appointments, and procurement violations. Calling the inquiry biased, baseless, and politically motivated, Jhagra accused the committee of conducting a targeted campaign to damage his reputation.

After years of scrutiny, the committee has failed to produce substantial evidence, instead resorting to vague accusations. He said that the campaign against him started when Imran Khan ordered his inclusion in the cabinet.

The committee’s report raises severe concerns regarding financial mismanagement during Jhagra’s tenure as finance minister. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reportedly defaulted multiple times on financial obligations under his leadership.

The committee has sought an explanation for the recurring defaults and their impact on governance. The report alleges that Rs36 billion was withdrawn from the Pension and Gratuity Account but was never recovered.

The funds were allegedly transferred without proper scrutiny from the Finance Department, despite Jhagra’s position as the provincial finance minister. The committee questions whether this constituted a conflict of interest and if he exercised due diligence in governance

Jhagra is accused of hiring a disproportionately large number of employees, including relatives. The report claims that many of these employees resigned soon after securing long-term employment benefits, raising concerns about the manipulation of hiring policies.

The province remained in debt throughout his tenure, with no significant efforts made to reduce financial liabilities. The committee questions what strategies, if any, were implemented to improve the financial situation.

The committee has flagged loans given by a financial institution to various entities. The report questions the appointment of the financial institution’s managing director in violation of recruitment rules.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment is reportedly conducting an inquiry into this appointment. The committee alleges that Jhagra’s long-term financial strategies resulted in a large number of dead projects, further wasting public funds.

As the former health minister, Jhagra also faces allegations of corruption and mismanagement in healthcare projects, particularly in the Sehat Card Program, medical equipment procurement, and COVID-19 relief efforts. Several hospitals were removed from the Sehat Card Program for failing to meet minimum quality standards.

The committee claims that Jhagra never rectified the situation or provided a comprehensive explanation for these exclusions. The financial records show that during his tenure, Rs3.2 billion was spent on Sehat Card services despite a reduction in operational costs to Rs2.25 billion. The committee has demanded a justification for the increased spending despite lower operational expenses.

The committee accuses Jhagra of purchasing body scanner machines at inflated prices, leading to a waste of public funds. The National Accountability Bureau has reportedly initiated an inquiry into the procurement process, though no conclusions have been reached.

Additionally, the scanners were never commissioned or used for public services, rendering the investment useless. The report highlights irregularities in the procurement and distribution of COVID-19 relief materials.

It alleges that essential medical equipment remained unutilised, ultimately leading to wastage. Additionally, UN-donated contraceptives were allegedly left to expire at Karachi instead of being distributed for public use. The committee has demanded a justification for these losses.

The committee has questioned Jhagra’s affiliations with two foreign organisations, seeking clarification regarding his involvement with these entities and any potential conflicts of interest. The committee has formally sought explanations from Jhagra.

Responding to the accusation, Jhagra said that all major financial decisions were taken at the cabinet level and were not unilateral. He argued that KP’s financial crisis was a result of federal funding delays rather than mismanagement at the provincial level.

On the allegation that he appointed close relatives and associates to key positions, including the appointment of a managing director in violation of recruitment policies, Jhagra challenged the committee to present proof of unlawful hiring. He maintained that all recruitments were conducted through due process.

Addressing concerns that several hospitals were removed from the Sehat Card Program due to non-compliance and that expensive medical equipment, including MRI scanners, was procured at inflated rates, Jhagra defended the program as one of the most impactful health initiatives in KP’s history.

He acknowledged that some hospitals had to be delisted but said this was necessary to maintain service standards. He also denied any wrongdoing in medical procurements, stating that price fluctuations were due to market conditions, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.

Regarding allegations that essential COVID-19 relief materials, including contraceptives sent by the UN, were wasted due to bureaucratic inefficiencies, Jhagra said the delays in distribution were an administrative issue rather than intentional mismanagement.

PTI leadership takes note of infighting, asks groups to exercise restraint

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Junaid Akbar Khan on Saturday said that the party’s leadership had taken notice of infighting in the provincial chapter and directed groups to exercise restraint.

Talking to reporters at the PTI’s protest camp outside the provincial assembly’s building here, Mr Akbar said that the party’s political committee discussed the issue and issued instructions to both sides not to escalate the situation.

“Our political committee will soon take a decision on this matter, ensuring such a situation does not arise in future,” he said.

Currently, the ruling PTI’s KP chapter is facing a schism, with senior leaders at each other’s throats. A tug of war is under way between Speaker of the KP Assembly Babar Saleem Swati and former Senator Azam Swati, both from Mansehra district.

Also, former minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra is engaged in a war of words with the party’s internal accountability committee and has gone public with his response to the committee’s questionnaire issued to him about administrative and financial issues from the time when he held the finance and health portfolios.

In a related development on Friday, some senior PTI leaders demanded of the leadership to order an investigation into the statement of Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, who declared them “conspirators” in a recent podcast. The demand came from former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and former minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, with another senior party leader, Kamran Khan Bangash, coming out in their support.

Mr Akbar also appealed to party leaders, involved in the infighting, to stop from attacking each other, saying such a conduct is inappropriate.

“Differences in political parties are a normal thing but all these issues should be discussed at proper forums,” he said, urging all leaders to be “on the same page as differences are not good for the party’s interests.”

The PTI leader also said no one in the party had any clout.

He said party workers were neither associated with Ali Amin Gandapur or him, and that they would back whosoever had the support of party founder Imran Khan.

“Since Imran Khan is the party’s pivot, such differences are unlikely to harm the party as people trust Imran,” he said.

Mr Akbar said he had differences with Gandapur when he was taking over the office of the party’s KP president but in line with Imran’s orders, both of them buried the hatchet.

When asked whether former minister Mohammad Atif Khan is being made the president of PTI’s Peshawar region and Sher Ali Arbab the general secretary, he said every leader had to make his own team and he was comfortable with his one. Both office-bearers were removed while Ali Amin was heading the party’s provincial chapter.

Regarding the removal of the chief minister, Mr Akbar said that Gandapur enjoyed the trust of the PTI founder, so there was “no merit to talk about his removal.”

He also asked PTI workers and leadership to wear black armbands from Monday to protest the federal government’s “excesses” against the party.

“We are facing state oppression and state terrorism,” he said.

The PTI provincial president directed party workers and leaders to prepare for a massive protest movement to be launched on the directives of Imran Khan.

He said the PTI would take to the streets if its founder, Imran Khan, gave a call for it.

They are useless.

Pakistan came out of this entire episode with flying colours without Imran Khan or his PTI.

You know things are bad for IK when even his long time backers are pleading with him to accept a deal with the army for his own greater good and for the good of the country.

They are useless.

Pakistan came out of this entire episode with flying colours without Imran Khan or his PTI.
This is a very poor post. Because of one common enemy, the entire population stood behind the armed forces. In times like this, internal differences are set aside.

Who are the Pakistani youth that both DG ISPR and the PM praised? Just weeks ago, the same youth were called digital terrorists, but now they are labeled as heroes. The X which was banned, could now be used without VPN etc, why? Because the rulers needed that assistance.

If you gather 100 random Pakistanis, I am sure 80 of them are Imran Khan supporters. We live in the west, enjoying comfortable lives with the freedom to say whatever we want. In Pakistan, you cannot say whatever you want. You can be kidnapped, your family members can be kidnapped, your business can be destroyed. Of course, people are afraid. And by the way, what happened in the last election? Who won it comprehensively?

Again, in a war-like situation, everyone will defend Pakistan. To say that PTI and Imran Khan are useless is essentially saying that 80% of Pakistanis are useless. That's not acceptable in this situation.

In times of war, everyone puts political differences and affiliation aside which is what all of us did. It is also time for every stakeholder in Pakistan to think and realize the reason why the enemy tried to attack us was they saw the level of political division and the deep rooted resentment the masses had over the army's antics in the last 3 years but to our credit, everyone put it aside when the country came under attack.

To the army's and governments credit, they too exhibited the common sense to lift the social media ban in the country and the overwhelming number of people who countered the social media propaganda from India were PTI and IK followers along with the social media activists of other parties.

On rare occasions like this everyone should celebrate coming together.

I compare and contrast the culture in the West i.e. USA, Canada, UK where the government and opposition goes at it during election season but after elections and when it comes to running the government, everyone respectfully works together and puts political slogans aside. This is something IK should learn from as well. Its all well and good saying chor, chor when refering to PML N, PPP during election campaigning but when the political system (no matter how flawed it is) allows them to win a few seats, Sindh government, whether you like it or not, you have to establish a working relationship with them for the greater good of the country. This was the Army's biggest frustration with him during his tenure and which is why they love Shahbaz Sharif because if there is one thing the guy is good at, it is buttering people and getting them to work together.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan Monday expressed optimism about the potential release of PTI founder Imran Khan ahead of Eidul Adha.

“We are trying our best and hopeful that Allah will open a way,” he said while talking to newsmen in Islamabad.

Barrister Gohar stressed that the concerns raised by PTI workers regarding the prolonged detention of their leader were valid. “No one can comprehend why PTI founder Imran Khan has spent two years behind bars,” he remarked.

Barrister Gohar urged workers to remain composed and assured them that every possible effort was being made for Imran Khan’s release. “We have resorted to sit-ins, protests, and raised the matter in the assemblies,” he added.

Highlighting the party’s consistent struggle, Gohar stated, “Our people have endured hardships for two years; now they are exhausted.” He expressed hope that Imran Khan’s legal cases would be scheduled and decided on merit.

Moeed Pirzada in his latest Vlog revealed that the Pakistani Millitary Establishment, Sharif, Zardari, Bhutto nexus managed to neutralized PTI's lobbying with the Trump administration by obtaining access to Trump's family and business associates and offering them deals to exploit the minerals in Balochistan, KPK and also offered business contracts for Crypto Currency opportunities in Pakistan to a few companies linked to Trump's business. Also the fact our current regime is very close to the Arab states who despise PTI and IK to the core, who have solid relations with the Trump administration, his family has not helped PTI's cause either.

And all this while PTI couldn't figure out after spending so much time, effort, money in cozying up to the Trump administration, why did Richard Grenell stop tweeting about IK and Pakistan?

PTI's incompetency, lack of political wits, street smarts seriously infuriates me and let's be absolutely honest, the party is just IK's fanclub, remove him from the picture and this party will not be able to win a mayor's seat, everyone in this party is just a parasite, opportunist cashing in on the founder's name and fame.

Anyway's, according to Moeed Pirzada, Pakistani military establishment, Sharif, Zardari's regime new found romance and relevance in Washington DC and with the Trump administration who have been speaking in favour of the Pakistani government, the nation and defending it against India is going to be shortlived because the Indian government and establishment has recognized this and are now going to be launching their top notch Indian corporate giants tasking them to penetrate the Trump family business circle and giving deals to stop the Trump administration and the US from cozying up to Pakistan any further.

Cozying up to Trump or other US members won’t save the status quo. The status quo is playing a short term game. The status quo is destined to fall be it tomorrow or in 5 years. Imran Khan’s role was to weaken the status quo’s grip which he has done very well. We are just waiting for it to fall. 25 million people need jobs and businesses - the status quo is standing between them and the rent seeking. This is the last term of the status quo and generals.

PTI leaders Hammad Azhar, Rana Shahbaz declared absconders in October 5 protest case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Hammad Azhar and Rana Shahbaz as absconders in a case related to violence against police during a protest held on October 5.

The ruling was issued due to their repeated failure to appear in court despite multiple summons.

ATC Administrative Judge Manzar Ali Gul declared the two leaders absconders and issued their permanent arrest warrants.

The court was hearing police petitions in connection with two cases registered at Islampura and Shafiqabad police stations.

According to police, advertisements had already been published to summon the accused, but both individuals have gone into hiding due to fear of arrest.

I would like to see IK appoimt Muraad as leader. The other guys have betrayed IK. You know they have betrayed him because they are not in jail. If they showed any loyalty to IK and PK, they would have been Locked up

Proceedings of references against 26 PTI MPAs kick off

Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has formally commenced proceedings of the disqualification references filed against the 26 suspended members belonging to the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

The move marks a significant development aimed at “reinforcing parliamentary discipline” and “upholding the rule of law” within the provincial legislature.

The references against the opposition MPAs have been filed by PML-N MPAs Mujtaba Shuja, Ahmed Iqbal and Iftikhar Chachhar, under Article 63(2), read with Article 113 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The critical legal process could potentially lead to the permanent disqualification of these 26 lawmakers.

Personal hearings to begin at PA Speaker’s chamber today

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Assembly, the Speaker has taken steps to ensure a fair and transparent process. In adherence to Article 10A of the Constitution, all 26 suspended MPAs will be afforded an opportunity for personal hearings, scheduled for today (Friday, July 11, 2025) at 11am. The proceedings will be held in the Speaker’s chamber at the new assembly building.

The Speaker has reaffirmed his commitment to conducting all proceedings with complete adherence to the constitutional obligations, emphasising full transparency and fairness, says the spokesperson. He stresses that all respondents will be granted ample opportunity to defend themselves within the established legal and constitutional framework.

Under the constitutional provisions governing such matters, the Speaker is legally bound to render a decision on these references within 30 days of their receipt.

“This is a significant constitutional development aimed at upholding parliamentary discipline and ensuring the supremacy of law and due process within the assembly,” says the Speaker, underscoring the importance of these proceedings for the integrity of the provincial assembly.

These proceedings will be closely watched, as their outcome may have serious implications for the political landscape of Punjab and could potentially set a precedent for future parliamentary conduct.

The 26 MPAs had been suspended for 15 sittings of the House for creating ‘chaos’ in the assembly during the budget speech of Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja and hurling budget books at him. They also interrupted the address of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during the budget session, raising ‘indecent’ slogans.

Protesting the move, Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Ahmed Khan Bhachar declined to preside over the meetings of the Public Accounts Committee-I, of which he is the chairperson, until the move to suspend the PTI MPAs is withdrawn.

Until the supporters of other parties are prepared to discuss solutions brought by the Sharif or Bhutto clan, Imran Khan will remain the foremost leader in the country. Even threads with PPP and PMNL in the topic headlines end up with their supporters launching Immy Dimmy Jimmy campaigns. They clearly have no confidence in either Maryam, Shabaz or Billo Pillow.

Arrest warrants issued for PTI leaders in protest-related cases

A special anti-terrorism court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in connection with three separate cases registered at the Sadiqabad, Wah Cantt and Naseerabad police stations following the protest held last year in November.

Those named in the warrants include former President Dr Arif Alvi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, Shahid Khattak, Khalid Khurshid, Faisal Amin, Wahab Alvi, Shehryar Riaz and Asad Qaiser.

Prosecutor Syed Zaheer Shah submitted a petition requesting that the proceedings be expedited and the accused be taken into custody. The court granted the request, fixed the hearing date for July 25 and ordered the issuance of arrest warrants.

Judicial staff have also issued notices to all the accused and their legal representatives. In addition, the police have formed special teams to carry out arrests and are expected to begin raids shortly.

The charges against the PTI leaders included vandalism, rioting, interference in government affairs and assaulting police personnel.

NA removes three PTI leaders from key parliamentary posts

National Assembly (NA) removed on Friday three Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders from key parliamentary posts following the disqualification of several party lawmakers.

Omar Ayub was stripped of the position of opposition leader, while Zartaj Gul lost her role as parliamentary leader and Ahmad Chattha was removed as deputy parliamentary leader.

A special anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Faislabad, earlier this month, sentenced top PTI leaders to up to 10 years in prison in cases pertaining to May 9 protests.

Ayub, opposition leader in Senate Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul, MNA Sahibzada Hamid Raza and former MNA Sheikh Rashid Shafiq were among the 108 PTI leaders convicted out of the 185 implicated in the cases while 77 others were acquitted.

The chamber allocated to the opposition leader was also taken back from the party. The speaker informed the House of the members’ disqualification under assembly rules. Consultations are underway between the opposition and the speaker for the appointment of a new opposition leader,

PTI-backed independents will be required to submit new nominations for the posts of parliamentary leader and deputy parliamentary leader.

Ayub was also delisted from the public accounts committee and finance committee.

NA also withdrew memberships of 15 standing committees from seven lawmakers belonging to PTI, removing three senior leaders from key posts.

Sahibzada Hamid Raza was stripped of the chairmanship of the standing committee on Human Rights, while Zartaj Gul lost her membership in the same committee. Rai Hassan Nawaz was removed as chairperson of the standing committee on Railways.

The changes follow the disqualification of several PTI members by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The ATC had earlier issued arrest warrants for 50 PTI leaders in multiple protest-related cases registered at various police stations in Islamabad ahead of the party’s planned August 5 protest. The warrants, issued by Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain, included prominent figures such as former president Arif Alvi, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Asad Qaiser, Hammad Azhar, Faisal Javed, Salman Akram Raja, Rauf Hassan, Murad Saeed, and Ahmad Niazi.

The warrants for 41 PTI leaders were issued after nine others issued earlier in connection with a case registered at Karachi Company Police Station.

Authorities don’t see Imran’s release in foreseeable future

Authorities concerned in the government are relaxed as they don’t see Imran Khan’s release from jail in the foreseeable future.

While PTI is celebrating Imran Khan’s bail by the Supreme Court in eight May 9 related cases, the calculations of the other side do not make them uneasy either.

While the PTI and its supporters are eager to see Imran Khan out of the jail, the other side does not see it happening in the near future.

As per the announced policy of the superior judiciary, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s appeals against their conviction in Al-Qadir trust case are months away from hearing in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The IHC had already made it public that these appeals would be fixed for hearing next year. The National Judicial Policy Making Committee’s direction about the priority to be given to different nature of appeals, also makes Imran Khan’s case less important for early hearing.

The details already shared with the media shows that 279 criminal appeals are presently pending before the IHC. These include 63 appeals against death sentence; 73 appeals involving life imprisonment; 88 appeals, including those of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, with sentence seven years and above; and 55 appeals of convicts who were jailed for up to seven years.

Imran Khan’s appeal in the Al-Qadir Trust case, a 14-year sentence, appears in the third group.

The details show that the oldest case, a death sentence appeal from 2017, was still waiting its turn. As per the IHC policy, every case was to be fixed on their turn from the list maintained by the registrar office determined from the date of institution. There was no skipping the line.

The NJPMC’s explicit command was to clear the older, more severe sentences first. Following the decision made by the NJPMC in its 51st meeting held on 09.12.2022, the IHC had formulated a “Fixation Policy” on 06.02.2023 for the early disposal of the cases pending before it. With regard to the disposal of appeals filed by convicts, the decision of NJPMC was incorporated into the “Fixation Policy” by the IHC.

The high courts were requested by the committee to expedite the adjudication of appeals of convicts and un-confirmed condemned prisoners pending for more than two years.

The committee had added that special benches may be designated to expedite the adjudication of appeals of convicts and un-confirmed condemned prisoners pending for more than five years within two months. Imran Khan’s appeal was filed on 31.01.2025.

With such a scenario, the government sources expect decisions of several cases against Imran Khan will be decided before his appeal in Al Qadir Trust by the IHC.

Salman Akram Raja decides to step down as PTI secretary general

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) General Secretary Salman Akram Raja decided to step down, saying that he would formally request the party founder, Imran Khan, to relieve him from the position, ARY News reported.

In a post on X, Salman Akram Raja said, “Tomorrow (Tuesday), I will formally request the party founder to relieve me from the position of Secretary General.”

He added that despite stepping down from the party position, he will continue to offer his legal services to PTI on a pro bono basis.

The senior lawyer revealed that he had earlier submitted a resignation request through Advocate Ali Bukhari, but the party founder did not accept it. “I am grateful for the trust shown in me,” he said.

“An incident occurred today that requires me to make a clear and firm decision,” he added.

“My life is an open book, and none of my actions contradict my principles. I cannot accept any compromise on intellectual or financial integrity. Tomorrow, I will speak to the party founder and formally step down.”

Govt decides not to approve PTI's resignations from standing committees

The government has decided not to approve the resignations submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members from standing committees, sources revealed.

Sources divulged on Friday that the government was continuing efforts to persuade the PTI to remain part of the parliamentary process. It has initiated contact with the party’s parliamentary leadership to discuss future cooperation.

The government has asked the PTI to reconsider its policy on resignations and to participate actively in the parliamentary system. In this regard, a fresh offer for dialogue has also been extended to the party.

The government has maintained that negotiations remain the only viable solution to all outstanding issues, and it has reiterated this position in its recent communications with the PTI, according to sources.

PTI senators resign from standing committees in compliance with Imran’s orders

Four PTI senators, including Dost Muhammad, Zeeshan Khanzada, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, and Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, have resigned from their respective senate standing committees on Thursday, saying that they had made the move in line with the instructions of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan.

The development comes two weeks after the PTI claimed some 30 of its lawmakers resigned from the membership of parliamentary committees, although the National Assembly Secretariat only confirmed the receipt of 20 resignations.

The resignation letters of all four senators, seen by Dawn.com, stated that the decision was made “voluntarily” upon the orders of Imran.

PTI senators quit all committees in protest against 'engineered system'

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally resigned from all Senate standing committees, intensifying its political disengagement from the parliamentary process in protest against what it describes as an 'engineered system'.

PTI’s parliamentary leader in the Senate, Barrister Ali Zafar, submitted the resignations of party senators to the Senate Secretariat on Tuesday.

Speaking outside the Parliament House, he stated that the move was part of a unanimous party decision. “We’ve decided to withdraw from all Senate committees. Today, I’ve submitted our senators’ resignations as per our collective decision,” he said.

The decision follows an earlier directive of PTI founder Imran Khan, who reportedly instructed party-backed lawmakers to vacate committee positions in both Houses of the Parliament. Last week, PTI senators began individually resigning from their committee assignments.

Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi stepped down from five prominent committees — Commerce, Industries and Production, Education, Energy, and Inter-Provincial Coordination. Senator Azam Swati followed suit and resigned from committees on Cabinet, Economic Affairs, Health, Law and Justice, and Rules and Procedure.

The party had already begun quitting National Assembly committees last month, citing similar concerns.

ATC issues arrest warrants for PTI's Omar Ayub, others in Sangjani rally case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday issued arrest warrants for several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in a case relating to the party's rally in Sangjani area back in September 2024.

Islamabad ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra conducted the hearing of the case today and issued arrest warrants for former National Assembly speaker Omar Ayub, PTI leader Zartaj Gul and party's Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram.

Judge Sipara also directed the police to arrest and produce the PTI leaders before the court by October 20.

"The three leaders did not appear in court even once," remarked the judge as the court rejected Ayub's request for exemption from appearance.

The case relates to the former ruling party's rally in Islamabad's Sangjani in September last year seeking the release of its incarcerated founder Imran Khan who has been behind bars since August 5, 2023 in multiple cases ranging from terrorism to corruption.

The latest arrest warrants are likely to add to the party's existing legal and political woes with its senior leadership, including Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid and others already incarcerated.

The party has also lost its opposition leaders in the NA and the Senate after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Ayub and Shibli Faraz as the leaders of the opposition in both houses, respectively after the two were convicted in May 9 cases.

Apart from external challenges, the PTI is also battling internal rifts with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur acknowledging that tensions and groupings exist within the party last month.

Meanwhile, as reported by The News, PTI founder Khan, during his meeting with CM Gandapur last month, stressed that there was no space within the PTI for those attempting to create rifts.

The former prime minister has also directed the party leadership to act firmly against baseless statements and negative propaganda that undermine internal trust.

Imran Khan directs immediate resignations from Punjab Assembly committees: Gohar

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has directed party members to immediately resign from all Punjab Assembly standing committees, Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail alongside Senator Ali Zafar after meeting Khan, Barrister Gohar confirmed that PTI currently controls 14 standing committees in Punjab, adding that the directive for resignation came directly from the party founder.

The move comes as part of the former ruling party’s political strategy, which also includes boycotting upcoming by-elections. Last month, PTI lawmakers resigned from the standing committees of the National Assembly and Senate on Khan’s order.

Barrister Gohar — while speaking to journalists today — said it was his first meeting with the PTI founder in several days, and that the former premier was in good health and high spirits.

He added that the trial in the Toshakhana Two case has concluded, with final arguments scheduled for October 13 and a verdict expected by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. He termed it the fifth “bogus” case against the party founder, claiming that all cases were politically motivated to keep him imprisoned.

The PTI leader also stated that after the new chief minister assumes office, the PTI founder will finalise cabinet appointments, clarifying that the newly appointed CM was the one nominated by the PTI founder himself.

He urged KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to accept outgoing CM Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation to ensure a smooth political transition, rejecting reports of any forward bloc within the party.

Gohar said the PTI founder did not consult him on the CM’s replacement, adding that many decisions are taken without wider consultation, but stressed that the change in KP leadership was the founder’s own decision, which the party fully accepts.

The resignation of KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur has turned into a controversy. According to sources at the Chief Minister’s House, Gandapur’s resignation was delivered at the gate of the Governor House last night, and the staff at the CM House acknowledged its receipt.

The sources further said that Governor Karim Kundi is currently in Islamabad, where he met a foreign ambassador and attended a football match between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Governor Kundi, speaking to Geo News, said that he has not yet received the resignation from his principal secretary.

He added that once the resignation is received, he will review it in light of legal and constitutional points before signing it. The governor said that if there is any error in the resignation, it will be returned.

For his part, Senator Zafar said that the PTI founder remarked that the same cabinet would continue for now, with changes to be considered later if needed. He quoted the founder as saying that the chief minister’s change was a constitutional process, warning that any attempt to obstruct it would be met with strong protest.

PTI infighting ends as ousted leaders reinstated on secretary’s nod

The simmering internal rift within the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf involving its secretary-general and Punjab chief organiser reached its logical end on Wednesday as the latter issued a formal notification reinstating party’s central Punjab president and general secretary – only after the written instructions by the secretary-general.

“Pursuant to the written instructions received from PTI secretary-general Salman Akram Raja, conveyed in direction of the founding chairman Imran Khan, it is hereby notified that Ahmad Chattha is restored as president and Bilal Ejaz as general secretary PTI central Punjab, with immediate effect”, reads the notification issued on Wednesday.

The rift between the senior party leaders had come in full public view some two weeks ago, when chief organiser Aliya Hamza’s notification replacing the central Punjab leadership – endorsed by the secretary general Salman Akram Raja – was disputed by none other than incarcerated party founder Imram Khan. Mr Khan’s displeasure over the change of guards in central Punjab was conveyed by his sister Uzma Khan in a media talk.

The chief organiser had removed central Punjab president Ahmad Chattha and general secretary Bilal Ejaz and appointed Ali Imtiaz Warraich and Tariq Mahmood Sahi through notifications issued on Oct 16 and Oct 25, respectively.

The controversy between the two leaders aggravated, when secretary-general Raja came in public to say that he was misguided by Ms Hamza’s team members, while she was of the view that she had the authority to change the party leadership in central Punjab and elsewhere in the province.

“Mr Khan had assigned me mobilisation in Punjab while empowering me to make changes in Punjab,” she had stated in her tweet on Oct 29. Over appointments’ confusion, she had stated that she would seek Mr Khan’s instructions to rectify matters.

Following Ms Uzma’s message and review committee’s unanimous decision the same evening, Mr Raja announced reinstatement of the party’s central Punjab leadership via his X handle.

“The PTI Punjab review committee meeting has unanimously decided to restore Ahmad Chattha as central Punjab president,” stated Mr Raja in his post on X and added that he explained the committee members about the events since Mr Chattha’s removal.

Speaking to Dawn, Ms Hamza had stated that Mr Raja had formally been declared as incarcerated party founder’s focal person, his tweet is enough to restore previous central Punjab leaders Ahmad Chattha and Bilal Ejaz. “My notification appointing Ali Imtiaz Warraich and Tariq Mahmood Sahi as president and general secretary, respectively, stands null and void,” she had said.

Our staff reporter adds

When asked whether she would issue formal notifications to implement the secretary-general’s decision, she had said, “there is no need for any new notification and the two leaders have been restored to their previous positions”.

In her latest notification restoring old guards in central Punjab, the chief organiser stated the order had been issued in accordance with the chain of command and under the authority of the Punjab chief organiser, ensuring full compliance with the founding chairman’s written direction and consistency with PTI’s organisational constitution.

“The decision is consistent with the conclusions recorded in the Punjab Review Committee meeting held on Nov 7 as well as reaffirms PTI Punjab’s commitment to clarity, discipline, and institutional order, in line with the vision and leadership of jailed founding chairman Imran Khan,” reads the notification.

Though Raja, according to the Nov 7 review committee meeting minutes, had stated the committee participants unanimously decided Chattha be restored as the Central Punjab president through a requisite notification issued by the Punjab chief organiser forthwith, Ms Hamza asserted that she would have issued the notification same day when Mr Khan’s displeasure was relayed in public, if the secretary-general had conveyed the decision in writing.

Speaking to Dawn on Wednesday, Ms Hamza again clarified that she had not reinstated the central Punjab leaders on the review committee’s suggestions but on the written instructions of the PTI secretary general.

ECP refuses to recognise Barrister Gohar as PTI chairman

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has denied to recongise Barrister Gohar as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman.

The country’s supreme election body issued a response to an application filed by Pakistan Tehereek-e-Insaf’s Barrister Gohar Khan that he could not be recognised as the party’s chairman at present.

In the letter, the ECP wrote that Barrister Gohar has “no legal status as party chairman” since PTI’s intra-party elections are subjudice before Lahore High Court.

The ECP also said a decision cannot be rendered owing to the stay order placed on the intra-party polls and joined that senators joining PTI are also contingent upon that very case.

Gohar confirmed that he had received the ECP’s response and has decided to file a case with regard to this matter in the court. “The Election Commission of Pakistan has not accepted our intra-party election nor handed over a certificate,” he added.

When our Senate elections were held, people not affiliated with any party joined PTI,” he said while talking about the scenario after the Senate elections.

On January 13, 2024, a three-member SC bench upheld the ECP’s December 22, 2023, order declaring the PTI’s intra-party polls null and void.

Later, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates had to contest the February 8, 2024, general elections as independents.

ECP refuses to recognise Gohar as PTI chairperson

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refused to recognise Barrister Gohar Ali Khan as the chairperson of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The polls supervisory body, in response to Gohar's earlier letter, stated that on November 13 he had requested the acknowledgement of independent senators' affiliation with the PTI.

The commission said the PTI intra-party elections case is still pending, and the party has obtained a stay order from the Lahore High Court (LHC). According to the ECP, he cannot be recognised as PTI chairperson and holds no legal authority in this regard.

On January 13, 2024, a three-member SC bench upheld the ECP's December 22, 2023, order declaring the PTI's intra-party polls null and void.

Later, the PTI candidates had to contest the February 8, 2024, general elections as independents.

Eighty such independent candidates reached the National Assembly and later joined the SIC in an apparent bid to claim reserved seats for women and minorities. The ECP, however, refused to allocate the seats to the party, a decision that the SIC challenged in the Supreme Court.

On July 12, 2024, a full bench of the apex court, through a majority of eight to five, resurrected the PTI as a parliamentary party, noting that 39 of the lawmakers who had submitted certificates of their affiliation with the PTI along with their nomination papers were already PTI lawmakers.

The top court ruled that the remaining 41 lawmakers who had not submitted the affiliation certificates at the time of nomination papers' submission could do that now within a period of 15 days.

The ruling coalition later filed a review petition against the apex court ruling, which the Constitutional Bench took up in May.

PTI suffers setback as senior leader joins PML-N

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) faced a major political blow in Muzaffarabad after one of its prominent figures, Sardar Shah Nawaz Akhtar, announced his decision to join the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He was formally welcomed into the party with a garland during a ceremony attended by senior leaders.

According to details, Sardar Shah Nawaz Akhtar, a central PTI leader and former assembly candidate, joined the PML-N along with hundreds of his supporters.

The event was headed by former Azad Kashmir prime minister Raja Farooq Haider, who personally greeted Akhtar and marked his inclusion in the party.

Speaking at the ceremony, Farooq Haider said the positive governance performance of Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, and Maryam Nawaz was being felt across Azad Kashmir as well. He claimed this momentum was encouraging more political workers to shift towards the PML-N.

Several workers from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and PTI also announced their decision to join PML-N during the gathering.

This development comes a day after PTI’s Tehsil President from Bhimber, Tariq Mahmood, publicly quit the party.

In a press conference, Mahmood said he could not remain part of any political group that, in his view, harboured intentions against state institutions. He added that nothing was greater than the country and its armed forces, vowing to stand firmly with them.

PTI forms committee to revise party constitution for intra-party elections

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has established a committee to review and amend its party constitution following direct instructions from Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, ARY News reported.

According to the PTI, the committee has been formed to resolve all structural glitches found in the party constitution.

As per the party notification, this initiative is also aimed at preparing the party for holding early intra-party elections.

The changes will bring the party constitution in line with that of other political parties.

]Furthermore, these reforms have been declared mandatory to pre-empt objections from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The committee has been directed to complete its work in a limited timeframe, with a goal of finishing the task within 10 days.

The members included in the committee are Chairman Barrister Gauhar Khan, Salman Akram Raja, former president Dr. Arif Alvi, Hameed Khan, Asad Qaisar, Rauf Hassan, and Firdous Shamim Naqvi.

Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has signaled its willingness to take a step forward on political reconciliation, with the party deciding to formally reach out to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

According to reports, the contact with the PPP will be made through the platform of the Tehreek Tahafuz AyinPakistan (TTAP). As part of this initiative, the PPP will be invited to a two-day national conference aimed at opening the door for political dialogue.

The upcoming conference, sources add, is expected to focus on exploring a viable path toward political engagement among major stakeholders.

However, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will not be extended an invitation to the event, sources clarified.

According to those familiar with the internal discussions, the government will need to arrange a meeting between PTI founder Imran Khan and Mahmood Khan Achakzai, along with other TTAP leaders, if it wishes to move negotiations forward.

Another idiotic statement from an imbecile that supported the murder and mayhem and cant live with his own sullied conscience.
I can say he is loved and you can say he isnt. I just leave you to see what happens when he walks out for PK or in the PSL.🤣🤣🥰

You claimed that I "support murder" because I did not approve of how IK handled Pakistan's cricketing affairs during his tenure as PM.

Is this because you believe that I support the opposition?

PTI is over and done with more and more people are coming to sense even the people of KPK are questioning what has PTI done for KPK in the last 13 years.

Some people are getting excited over sohail afridi but in lahore there are more people in a poor man's bharaat than that came out for sohail afridi

This is what lahore looks like when it comes out and this is only one small section of lahore

No. You support murder because you kept quiet on the mayhem and murder in PK over time of the Junta.

Remember when Major made that thread arguing that IK should be hanged for treason after the imprisonment verdict came out? If you recall that, you’ll also remember IMMY69 calling him an “imbecile”. It seems you’ve forgotten that I openly opposed not only Major’s ridiculous claim but the verdict itself.

Ok but where have you been for most of the last 3 years. Major is a loser, but you condemning that is nothing compared what the oath breakers have done. If IK had done 0.0001% of what they have done,I guarantee you would have said IK was evil.
You and your ilk betrayed PK people with your failure to speak up. Where was you pain for PK?

No. You support murder because you kept quiet on the mayhem and murder in PK over time of the Junta.
Have you still not found a better purpose to your life? It’s over

ATC dismisses Aleema Khan's acquittal petition in D-Chowk protest case

The acquittal petition filed by Aleema Khan regarding the case registered against her in connection with the 26 November, 2024, D-Chowk protest has been rejected by the Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court (ATC).

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah delivered the reserved verdict, agreeing with the prosecution’s arguments after hearing submissions from lawyers representing both sides.

Advocate Faisal Malik, Aleema Khan’s lawyer, argued during the hearing that his client’s only fault during the protest was that she met her brother, former prime minister Imran Khan, in jail.

Malik added that Aleema Khan conveyed the message of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder to the party and public. "Peaceful protests enjoy democratic and constitutional protection," Malik said, noting that Aleema Khan communicated the protest message through the media, but no journalist or media channel was named or called in as a witness in the case.

The court asked if this meant the media should also be implicated in the case. The defence lawyer responded that he meant only that Aleema Khan and the journalists reported the same message, and that there were no witnesses to the conversation that took place during the jail visit.

When the court asked if the defence claimed that Aleema Khan only conveyed the protest message, Advocate Malik replied affirmatively, adding that the charges included in the case do not prove the allegations against the accused.

"The law does not state that a person conveying a message is automatically culpable. The sections under Section 6 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) do not prove the accused's guilt. This case does not hold legal merit and is a politically motivated retaliatory action," he argued.

The prosecutor, Zaheer Shah, countered that the accused was charged under five clauses of the ATA based on the investigation report. He argued that during political protests, control lies with the organisers.

"The 'theory of control' states that in any such protest, the accused holds full control. The media has no connection to this case; they did not appoint their own prime minister," Shah said.

He added that people did not come out at the media's instruction, questioning why the media should be made a witness when the protesters themselves admitted in the case that they organised the protest.

During his arguments, the prosecutor read out the transcript of Aleema Khan's media talks and informed the court that the constitution stipulates that any protest or rally must remain within the law. He claimed the accused, with others, organised a violent protest aimed at toppling the government.

"Aleema Khan said in her media talk that the PTI founder instructed that, whether the protest had an NOC or not, they would not comply. How can this be called a peaceful protest?" the prosecutor questioned.

He further argued that one police officer was martyred, 170 were injured, and business activities across the country were suspended during the protest. "At the time of the protest, the accused themselves admitted, 'We shut down the country,' and armed groups were brought from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab".

Shah informed the court that 18 witnesses have already been recorded in the case, arguing that under these circumstances, there is no justification for the acquittal petition. He requested that the court reject the accused's petition, which the court agreed with.

D-Chowk Protest

On November 13, Imran Khan made a “final call” for nationwide protests to be held on November 24, demanding the restoration of PTI’s electoral mandate, the release of imprisoned party members, and the reversal of the 26th Amendment, which he claimed had empowered a “dictatorial regime.”

The protest took place in D-Chowk, Islamabad, where supporters travelled from different provinces to heed Khan’s call.

The state rejected any possibility of negotiation, and an operation was conducted against the protestors, prompting the PTI leadership to flee the scene. The protest ended with the operation on November 26.

I will do so when rats like you actually do some work. Daddy's haraam earnings have no barkat and thats why you have turned as immoral scum.

Again, it’s not my fault Khan sab won’t see the light of day ever again.

You should file a refund claim for your £300 a year. PTI/Imran Khan are open right now for easy litigation. I’m sure you will get your universal credit contributions back from them (y)
Just ask Bajwa and Faiz Isa, apparently already in hiding and going around begging people to forget what they look like. Even Their graves will be hidden along with Munirs. People remember Tipo Sultan bravery not Jaffar and Sadiq, they remember Imam Hussains bravery , they hate Yazeed.
A lesson for you and your ilk.

lol. Imran khan will be remembered as the fool who flew too close to the sun. That’s it.

IK shouldn't be in prison but this holier than thou stance is hypocritical coming from PTI's most vocal supporter on this forum.

IK had his faults. He called OBL a shaheed, stayed silent when the rest of Pakistan were united in wanting the army to go after the terrorists who were responsible for the Peshawar school massacre. He also sided with the establishment during his tenure as PM.

Playing the moral high ground and your feeble emotional guilt trips don't work on me.

Playing to the gallery of your friends. IK has never appointed an army chief, and he never asked them to do anything institutional. So stop this nonsense about IK using the army like NS to steal elections or kill opponents

There are plenty of people who apparently "failed" to achieve good in this world, their reward will be in the hereafter. Imran Khan has awakened the people of Pakistan to the deeds of the military and that alone is worth his life.

May Allah give him long life and best of success in this life (Ameen).

The nation of Pakistan is indebted to Imran Khan even if it is for his "non-political" achievements.

Firstly, you are not God to decide who will be rewarded in the hearafter. Don’t throw that statement around as if you have been told by God that Khan will be rewarded.

Secondly, Khan played the game of thrones like Zardari and Nawaz before him. The “people of Pakistan” did not suddenly wake up to how the military are controlling this country. It could be that the vast majority of idiots who supported him for aesthetics might have realised how truly powerful this establishment is, but those who have suffered the iron fist before know full well the rules and limits of how much you can dance with them. Khan crossed the line. He paid the price.

I never claimed to be "God", it is your projection.

PTI = Imran Khan. Once IK is gone there will be nothing left of PTI, this is a fact that everyone needs to realize.

The problem for Pakistan is bigger than IK. Let's be very real here, Gen Z crisis is a real issue that has already had a very big say in many neighbouring countries. At the moment in the most developed city of Pakistan that is Lahore and in one of the good universities / campus here the students are literally committing suicides. If this doesn't tell you what's boiling up and coming for the authorities then I don't know what would wake them up.

I'm a big supporter of IK however I don't want the country to go through civil crisis. The results of civil crisis are never positive. The outcome is simply ruins with the bigger sharks taking ownership of a certain segment of the ruin. I have said this ample times that hopefully sanity prevails. There needs to be a consensus reached between IK and Army. IK is the only hope that the Establishment has who can subdue the civil uprising. On the other hand IK wants full authority and curb down on Establishment's deep tangles within the system which the Establishment isn't ready to give up.

There is a saying that when elephants fights its the grass that gets trampled. In this case the grass is literally Pakistan, its people, its economy, its rule of law. I say this again that the Gen Z wrecking ball will hit the Establishment, they really need to start thinking about how to subdue it and from what is on the street only IK can subdue it for the time being.

One more thing I want to highlight that Establishment believes that similar to late 70s they won't face public outrage on a massive scale if IK's remains imprisoned. The times have changed significantly since then. Pakistan was a progressive country in 70s meaning people had better standard of living, education and security. Now Pakistan is under developed with high unemployment, no rule of law, high inflation and under par living standards. On top of this the emergence of social media has simply magnified the reach of information to public which gets public riled up even more. Let's see how this ego war pans out but at the moment internally this is not a good situation for Pakistan.

You can never progress if those with a gun are holding 250mn hostage. PK economy has been totally destroyed and we are borrowing more and more just to stay afloat. A well known economist-Dr Kaiser Bangali is saying that once we have to pick sides in these conflicts, the bankruptcy will be in the open. Millions are looking to leave PK and such is the labour and capital flight that Munir and Co are using it to demand bribes to allow people to leave, even though they have valid visas. As I said before, Munir was appointed to destroy PK and this is one area he has succeeded in.

I have no love for Asim Munir so when I'm going to talk below its not with him in mind. He has small mindset, tunnel vision and inflated ego. He is ideal representative for small man in a big office.

When I say Establishment I tend to refer to other decision makers on board as well that will mainly include the Core Commanders, Top Bureaucrats, Top Politicians and whoever else is on the table.

To PTI supporters, I simply have one thing to say that Pakistan as a country has managed to survive in the region affected by chaos, instability, economic decline and powerful enemy simply because Pakistan is a nuclear state. Please never forget the importance of being a nuclear state.

For Establishment, they need to realize that Pakistan was only able to achieve nuclear status through impressive and respectful work done by their scientists. People forget how forward looking the country was in 70s and earlier. Pakistan has had a rich history of physicians like Abdul Salam and Qadeer Khan. These were literally the people who helped us succeed scientifically and we were ahead of our time. I agree with Bewal that at the moment we are nowhere near the same status and brilliant minds may practically not exist in the country let alone work for the country.

I hope the Establishment realized that nuclear achievement is largely thanks to civilian supremacy and less to do with military supremacy. Once we realize this simple argument we would realize how important people are to the society and its development. Look at China, their entire transformation has revolved around brilliant minds staying within China and working for China. Its always the people that can take a country forward and if we have the best of them then we would go further than others in the race, its simple.

Khan has done a tremendous job to expose the ‘jernails’. It’s just a matter of time the status quo collapses on its weight. As time will go on, the ‘jernails’ will be forced to go into their bunkers and do their actual job. The ‘jernails’ are responsible for the destruction of 78 years.

I understand your anger, emotions and frustrations (for whatever reasons) but please drop them and read what is being written, here is the post in BOLD.

Now point out the following:
  1. Where did I claim to be God?
  2. Where did I claim or Project Imran Khan to be Jannati?
Evidence for 1:

Evidence for 2:

Yeah well don’t “project” khan as a jannati because of your political views about him.

Question:

Imran Khan is a Muslim so according to his worldview his life does not end with his death. Again, drop your anger, emotions and frustrations and respond with cold hard facts to point out the error in my post.

You may be whatever religion and have whatever belief system but from Imran Khan's perspective and worldview he will be judged in hereafter, so respond with evidence about what is written and not what your head is interpreting to what is written. I am not being sarcastic or disrespectful but I honestly cannot recall your belief system whatever and it is irrelevant, the post is from IK's perspective and makes no difference about my political affiliation which by the way:
  1. I am not Pakistani
  2. Consequently, I cannot be part of PTI or vote in Pakistani elections

I have no love for Asim Munir so when I'm going to talk below its not with him in mind. He has small mindset, tunnel vision and inflated ego. He is ideal representative for small man in a big office.

That establishment that you talk about doesn't exist. There are lots of boot polishers that will do anything for their nukri and will take all opportunities to steal and misuse power.
Munir gives an order, like Bajwa did previously and the army of nukar across the board follow it. Its not possible for this number of people to be this stupid for this long if they had any influence over the decisions.

This group have their passports ready and will run to wherever they hold their wealth, whether thats Dubai, Canada or Portugal.

So the murderous regime led by Munir are going to be rewarded for killing innocent people and beating up innocent people. Based on this logic Hitler and Stalin will be given the highest place in Jannat. 🤣🤣🤣

Playing to the gallery of your friends. IK has never appointed an army chief, and he never asked them to do anything institutional. So stop this nonsense about IK using the army like NS to steal elections or kill opponents

IK had no problem acting as a pawn for the establishment while he was prime minister, which means he also benefited from the same corrupt system, even if only for a few years. In reality, neither IK nor PTI could ever govern Pakistan without the establishment’s blessing.

The establishment is the entity that truly rules Pakistan and is the main reason the country cannot progress, not PTI, PML‑N, PPP, or any of the other parties that merely play their assigned roles. That is why there is no support from me for any of them.

PTI supporters are quick to label their rivals as corrupt, but that claim falls apart once you look at how many politicians IK gladly welcomed into PTI from those very same “corrupt” parties. This was the moment where he lost principles. Prior to the 2013 elections he was far more likeable.

Well said bro. I hate it when people merely use religion to make themselves and others righteous. The fact that he decided to say this to you is also quite telling.
