Gone Girl

Absolutely brilliant film. Ben Affleck is superb and could well earn an Oscar nomination, as does the female lead. A really intriguing story that turns on its head on a few occasions and always keeps you guessing. The film explores much deeper themes as well, such as the role of the media in murder/disappearance cases.

Its a film that I cant find many faults with and will be on your mind for a while after seeing it. If you like good plots, see it, if you like films with deeper meanings, see it, if you like films in general, see it!

Well worth the ticket price.

9/10.

I loved the ending. Seeing husband and wife living together, with both of them basically being psychopaths (the husband to a lesser degree) was fascinating, and I loved how it leaves you to draw your own conclusions on the whole story. Even the guy who had his throat slit was mental, pretty much a male version of Amy, and yet at the same time did he really deserve what he got??

Waiting for a documentary about the disastrous behind-the-scenes shenanigans of 'The Island of Dr. Moreau'.

View attachment 49997

Richard Stanley was gonna direct the film but New Line Cinema pretty much interfered like crazy. Add to that, Brando was on auto-pilot. With bad weather, worse executive meddling and terribly disinterested actors, Stanley was fired and replaced by John Frankenheimer who was in his 'hack' phase. The most interesting thing is Stanley resorted to witchcraft at a point after being driven totally nuts.

Interesting stuff!

I saw the original movie after reading the novel and because of Brando. Was quite disappointed with the final product. Will be interesting to watch this behind the scenes documentary. Every so often there are movies which have the potential to be great but turned out be disasters. It might be even more interesting to watch the 'behind the scenes' narrative of such movies than the hugely successful or critically acclaimed ones. This movie certainly fits the bill.

'Annabelle' (2014)

A good film, quite good, enjoyable as well, but definitely not as scary as its trailer suggested.

It became quite predictable with quite a few minutes to go as to who it will be who will sacrifice his/her soul, which is why I would have preferred an untraditional and a different ending.....

.... with the child´s mother herself jumping down to sacrifice her life. That would have made it look far better.

Seven out of 10.

Did you watch it because the "heartache" Haider caused ?

Haider was a terrible movie so to get over that I watched some honest movies like Mission Kashmir and Border. You should try those movies, much better than Haider

A cinematic montage that I created recently. Hope you guys enjoy.

Watched this since Twin Peaks is returning. The story is deliberately obtuse after a deceptively easy start as we follow Chris Isaak's FBI agent investigating the murder of Teresa Banks. There are two fantastic performances - Sheryl Lee as the damaged, broken Laura Palmer and Ray Wise as the tormente(d/r) father Leland /Bob. The story gets repetitive after a point with all the coke sniffing, orgies and sudden violence. Lynch still manages to weave a watchable film and it's always great to see some of the residents of Twin Peaks. It's a depressing film with very little of the humour seen in the series and feel-good factor is at an All time low. It could be called a Ur-Lost Highway.

Why was it terrible ? It only scratched the surface on what was happening in Kashmir in the last 20 years. Finally a movie that showed a glimpse of realism in that region, rather than the baloney you are kept being fed on. And no one party is innocent either, unlike the other bakvaas where the finger pointing goes only way.

Anyway I agree, you need to watch Boarder, Gadar etc to get your self esteem to where it was.

'Bang Bang' (2014)

Seriously, what utter nonsense and garbage was this?!

Loved how one of the villain's cronies name was Hamid Gul, which seemed like a direct dig at former DG ISI Hameed Gul:)).

I will give it 0 out of 10, and then again 0 out of five.

Mary Kom

A chronicle of the life of Indian boxer Mary Kom, who went through several hardships before audaciously accomplishing her ultimate dream.

The movie overall was good , some very good moments in the movie. Priyanka did a good job.

The title alone tells me how pathetic the movie is

Lucy

Waste of time. I had downloaded the movie and forgotten about it. There was a time when I was intrigued by Scarlett Jo, but after the iCloud leaks she doesn't hold any interest for me. She plays her usual self, that poker face look, which is suited for such roles, but is beginning to look one dimensional. Morgan Freeman'c voice can make any crap sound profound, but sad that he is doing such roles. The movie Limitless, based on the same concept, was better than Lucy.

Come on,kat deserves one point at least [emoji813]

you serious??

haven't watched it yet but all reviews are saying iits funnier than the first one

I haven't seen the first one, but didn't find the movie as funny, maybe not my type. Besides every character seemed borderline gay to me.

Do watch it if you liked the first one though.

I commend your ability to think deep.

Why do you continue to torture yourself?

What's the harm in trying out your luck? It opens the door for some wonderful films like 'Haider' (2014) of course, as rare as it may be. Let's not pretend as if I am not the most jobless guy in the world.

Katrina Kaif is horrible in terms of acting, and that's what counts for me. I guess it's easy to please a laffanga like yourself with looks and all that:P.

opera1.jpg

A successful opera singer gets into an accident and has to be replaced by an understudy who gives a great performance. However, somebody starts hacking up victims in a twisted tribute to her. She is aided in her quest to uncover the killer by the unconventional director of the opera and a cop.

Argento's THE MAN!!! No one can shoot stylish murder mysteries like him. Amazing and unconventional camera angles, a lot of violence, genuine suspense and many twists and turns abound in this brilliant giallo. There is some bizarre surrealistic imagery inserted into the movie for no reason but that's Argento for you. The climax with it's blood-soaked pastiche of Sound of Music is alone worth a watch.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

8.5/10

Maleficent - Probably my first Disney movie which had a little darker theme than the usual rainbows and pink stuff. Jolie was fabulous and the movie too was alright, had a weak ending though. 6/10

You don't judge Dhoni by his bowling,do you?:moyo

Flawless

Set in 1960 London, where a soon to retire caretaker convinces a glass-ceiling constrained American executive to help him steal a handful of diamonds from their employer, the London Diamond Corporation.

A good solid plot.
This has a twist in the middle.

Michael Caine is excellent in the role of janitor.

7.5 / 10

Watched Gone Girl.

A decent thriller with a few twists, turns and surprises.

Kept me interested and it was one of those films that didn't seem like 2 hours.

Worth a watch 7/10.

Haider

Scenery was beautiful as were some of the local exhuberance, the storyline was just as melodramatic as Shakespeare play but with none of the logical build up

Very predictable, no hidden relevations, painted both sides as bad as each other

Tragedy, just like most Shakesperian plays, but the tragedy lay in the acting and deliverance, rather than the ending

A very stylish horror film from the criminally underrated Michele Soavi, the protege of Argento who made just four horror films. Arguably the Barry Richards of horror cinema indeed. This film is one of his weaker efforts but not without value. Soavi uses some great camerawork and the visuals are just amazing. Unfortunately, after an intriguing first hour, the film comes to a grinding halt introducing a truckload of characters whom we don't care about. Soavi, however, extracts as much as he can from a weak script. The score, like in all, Argento movies(Written, directed or otherwise) is superb with Goblin and Keith Emerson doing the duties.

It was originally supposed to be Demons 3 but has little to do with Demons 1 and 2 due to Soavi's decision to add more original stuff in it. Occasionally, comes across as a vicious diatribe on The Catholic Church than a horror film but can be watched by horror fans due to it's great style.

Edge of Tommorow

A solid film with good performances all round. Decent story, but the ending was a bit abrupt and left some unanswered questions, which I had to google. Pretty hilarious at parts. Side characters are pretty soulless with zero real backstory and you dont really care about them at all. Good thing about this is it lets the film focus on the chemistry between the two leads. All in all a decent enjoyable film.

If you liked it, watch Looper. It also has Emily Blunt but is superior to this one.

Seen it before, it too was excellent, better then EoT actually.

Glad you agree. It has less special effects and action but the plot is overall tighter and far more tragic. The only unnecessary part was the future storyline, the movie would have been better if they didn't actually show it.

I liked Looper. JGL was dead-on in his Bruce Willis impersonation. Plus Willis gave one of his few genuinely invested performances in recent times.

I was at first going to use the complete term "Luchcha laffanga" on you but then suddenly remembered that a lollipop is called "Lutscher" in German, pronounced like "luchcha". Be thankful that I didn´t call you a lollipop at least:P.

Lame logic. Dhoni plays cricket, yes, judge him based on that, but he isn´t a bowler to begin with.

The Equalizer

Good action film which id recommend, not much new in terms of storyline but a good all round job done by everyone esp D Washington

The Postman Always Rings Twice 6/10

Interesting movie with a twist the setting was very realistic

I am sweet as a lollipop,so won't mind if you called me that :D

Katrina isn't an actress too,I know there's this myth around. She just there for glamour :P

'Dhoom' (2004)

It surprises me myself a bit that I had never watched this film before, and today I finally did to decide for myself as to which film of the three in the 'Dhoom' series was the best one, and my conclusion is that nothing beats the second one from 2006, for which a lot of credit goes to Hrithik Roshan.

I found it very weird how Abhishek Bachchan emotionally blackmails Uday Chopra by referring repeatedly to his own wife, telling the latter how this or that act of his wouldn´t impress his wife! That doesn´t happen in a full-fledged comedy film either I suppose.

Four out of 10 for me, with a half of it due to the film introducing bit of a different yet old-fashioned concept in a film, which being that of police-thief.

Katrina isn't an actress too,I know there's this myth around. She just there for glamour :P

To be honest, I have never been fascinated much by the acting skills of too many female leading actresses in Bollywood anyway. Madhuri Dixit, Tabu etc. being a few exceptions of course.

Wolf of Wall Street

Crazy but very watchable.

Some hilarious scenes. LDC is brilliant in the film

7/10

'Khuda Kay Liye' (2007)

The film ran at a very slow pace and felt more like a TV serial. It was nowhere as good as made to be by many, in my opinion at least, but I completely respect the fact that it was a Lollywood film after all and quite a few years old now.

The proceedings in the Lahore High Court were extremely lame and irrelevant to the case in hand. Then of course there's to debate the two versions shown of Islam, however, discussing that would be completely irrelevant here and will derail the thread.

Shaan Shahid is one brilliant actor! Great actor!

Five out of 10 for me.

Probably the funniest movie I have seen in a good two three years.

Lucy. It was ok.

Before that As Above, So Below. I liked that better.

That refers to the cinema.

The last film I watched all told was Carlito's Way for the 1000th time. Best film ever.

Havent seen this one being mentioned often enough .
Trainspotting (1996)
Watched it a while back and loved it , apart from the slightly disturbing imagery of Ewan Mcgregors genitalia this is worth a watch.

A Hard Day

Good Korean thriller from this year...a step up from recent offerings...SKorea set the bar too high thriller wise with the likes of Memories of Murder, the Chaser etc...and good movies just don't live up to the standards set...neither does this one but its still a very good film...

It's basically about a frustrated girl who while addicted to drugs and alcohol tries to rob an ATM. She fails and is put under house arrest in her old home under the care of her overeager (but caring) mother and an aloof (but not bad) stepfather. Then she starts hearing things go bump in the night and comes to believe the house is haunted...or is it?

A delightfully twisty horror comedy from NZ. The laughs come through the story without being forced on us by some stupid actions of the characters. The lead actress does a fine job of converting a jerk into someone we root for without softening her up too much. Many of the characters do things we don't normally expect them to do and that's always a plus.

The film also has quite possibly one of the finest third-acts ever. It's a real gem and takes the movie to the next level.

Must-watch for horror fans, comedy fans and even fans of detective stories, but above all fans of good movies.

How to train your Dragon 2 - Best movie I have seen this year. 9.5/10

X men 2014 - Another great one. 8.5/10

'Raja Natwarlal' (2014)

Thoroughly enjoyable film! It well and truly was much better than my expectations. Lovely twists and turns! The short length was the icing on the cake.

I will give it 8.5 out of 10.

Masterpiece by David Fincher. The twist just completely caught me unaware. Great movie that keeps you thinking throughout.

A loving family of a father and his two kids is rocked by the father's revelation that he has seen an angel who has told him to kill demons who have taken human form on earth. The elder kid gets horrified as he regards this as murder and starts rebelling while younger kid follows his dad's every word.

Brilliant psychological thriller which really makes us question if the demons are real or delusions. Of course there is a twist ending which totally changes things. Reminded me somewhat of Supernatural in regards to a family of a father and his two kids who are affected by the father's decision to respond to a "higher calling".

Started watching Sergio Leone's "Once upon a time in the west" again. Apart from the characteristically elegiac visuals and the haunting background music score, it has the most stunningly gorgeous leading lady in Claudia Cardinale. Old school leading actresses were so much prettier. Now we have anorexics or plasticly enhanced leading ladies with no natural beauty.

What was the last film you watched? ('Maqbool' 2003)

'Maqbool' (starring Tabu, Irfan Khan, Pankaj Kapoor, Om Puri, Nasseeruddin Shah)

It was a Bollywood film based upon Williams Shakespeare´s noval "Macbeth". Was an above average film.

So above is a review from September 2010. I have no idea why I didn´t like it that much (perhaps I didn´t understand much as this was one of those films that one needs to watch with a lot of focus). My views have now changed after giving it another go an hour ago or so, probably because I have over the past few years become a huge fan of tragedies.

So I saw this one being mentioned again and again in relevance to the recently released 'Haider' (2014), another film by Vishal Bhardwaj based on another play of Williams Shakespeare. I just made my mind to watch this one again.

What a brilliant film! One of the greatest Bollywood films of all-time! Just..... wonderful!

10 out of 10!

What a coincidence. I watched this movie again yesterday. Loved some of the quotes by Pankaj Kapoor (Shahid Kapoor's father). "Gillori khaya karo gulfam, zubaan kaabu mein rehti hai". "Naya musalman toh paanch waqt ki namaz parta hi hai", and the song by Gulzar: "Tu mere ru ba ru hai"..

Gone Girl. Was intense and gripping but way too long.

Alpha House - Movie about some useless naked teens. Stopped watching after 20 minutes. 2/10

Friends and friendships are all about coincidences, whether old ones or new ones. I have this habit of singing in a low voice at home, and strangely enough this "Tu mere ru ba ru hai" song is one that I probably sing the most, and since six-seven years now, alongside many others that belong to the old films of the 60s, 70s, 80s etc.

I still can´t get over what I have watched yesterday. A masterpiece! Tragedies fascinate me so much. How I wish I could come up with a story myself.

For once I agree with u Rawal brah

Thanks for the mercy shown:).
