I watched Chak de India on Saturday... One of the better movies to have come out of the Indian cinema in recent times... Shah Rukh Khan is just superb.... had underplayed his part
beautifully.

I watched a pirated version of Khuda Kay Liai today. I watched it with great anthusiasm, expecting something special. In my opinion it was just another movie. We can not get anything out of it except for the fact that if one mullah says one thing, there is always another to say the opposite.

At this point in life I understand that when one can read so many books to make a living, for becoming a doctor, engineer, it consultant, etc. Why we can not read Quran and Hadith books ourselves? If we do that nobody has to ask them and drive these mullahs out of business.

Watched Zodiac ... David Fincher (earlier works - Fight Club and Se7en) doesn`t disappoint ...

8/10 ...

Felt a bit more of multi-dimensionality should have been attached to Zodiac`s character ... Also, the characters of the old couple who decipher the cipher sent in my Zodiac should have got longer screen time ...

lol

Only one reason to even watch that movie. But still, inclusion of Paris Hilton should have been reason enough not to watch it. Her dying scene was cool though. She deserved that.

I couldnt find the previous thread which was in this forum and had a similar title. If we locate it, then I'll merge it :)

We watched 2 horror films this weekend. Hostel 2 and Black Christmas. Both were ok, nothing great, in fact I would say Black Christmas was slightly better.

Lots of gore and blood in Hostel 2, but Black Christmas was more scary.

At the cinema: Michael Clayton with George Clooney.

On DVD: Outlaw with Sean Bean

Last Bollywood at the cinema: Partner

The third Resident Evil... not as good as the first i think but alot better than the second. Very gory though ...

Last bolly in cinema: bool buliya (6 out of 10)
Last holly in cinema: Saw 4 (7.5 out of 10)
Last dvd: Partner (6 out of 10)

2001 : A Space Odyssey

Very artistically directed movie ... the visuals are stunning and the music chilling.

However the plot is a complete stinker .. way to vague and open to interpretation.

i have heard that from people who have not had an opportunity to read the book. i highly recommend it. but nonetheless here is a quick guide to 2001 A Space Odyssey.

the opening sequence with the apes denotes a period of fragile balance where the ancestors of humanity were suspectible to their environment such as diseases, predators, lack of nutrition etc. It was in this period of uncertainity, the first monolith appeared. and the appearance of the monolith inspired in those apes a revolution. they began to have creative thoughts and for the first time identified a bone as a possible weapon (the whole deal with the ape banging the bone on the stone) which they then used to defend themselves, hunt animals for food and therefore establish their supremacy in the food chain, permitting humanity to evolve.

the appearance of that monolith inspired in human beings a change, and it would bring about significant leaps in intelligence which would prove decisive at different stages of our evolution. the first appearance established us a the most powerful and intelligent predator.

the second appearance: TMA 1 (Tycho Magnetic Anamoly 1), found on the moon inspired the next significant leap in human intelligence, symbolized by the construction of the spaceship Discovery. The objective of this Discovery was to investigate a signal that had been sent by TMA 1. turns out, TMA 1 when it was discovered was burried under the lunar surface (artificially burried) and when it was dug up, and exposed to sunlight, it emitted a brief signal directed towards one of the moons of saturn. in the movie, the signal is directed towards one of the moons of jupiter. it became rather obvious, that the second monolith was supposed to be an alarm or some sort of alert signal. i.e. when humanity has advanced to the level of exploring its satellite, it would inform on humanity to the creators of the monoliths.

discovery sets of for jupiter and it is here where the problem occurs. the crew of discovery is not informed of its mission, i.e. explore the destination of the signal from TMA 1. the crew is told it is merely sent to explore jupiter and its moons, but its autonomous computer: HAL 9000 developed by "dr. chandra" at university of chicago, is the only entity (if it can be thought of as one) which is aware of the true objective of the mission: explore the signal's destination.

the computer, programmed to be logical and honest begins to experience a contradiction when it has to disemble to the crew while maintaing a secret agenda. this causes it to suffer a conflict and in this conflict, it turns on its crew, murdering them when it feels that its very survival is under threat.

however, dave bowman proves to be more than HAL 9000 and he assumes control of the ship, and he then encounters the TMA 1's signal's destination: a giant monolith between the orbits of jupiter and one of its moons. he goes to explore the monolith when the next stage of human evolution occurs (as it always has whenever it comes in contact with a monolith). this stage requires a almost pseudo devine evolution where dave bowman transends from a mere human body to a "star child". a star child who is no longer limited to its human body, and has incredible material power to manifest objects and events. and this star child (the ultimate stage of human evolution) then watches over the earth as a guardian.

in the book, there is an emminent war between united states and soviet union and the star child manifests its desire which disables and renders ineffective all the thermo nuclear weapons the two countries has pointed at each other, thus removing a major threat to humanity.

the movie might seem a bit obscure and ambigious to first time viewers since it was directed at the same time as the book was released. arthur c clarke had a vision and he shared it with stanley kubrich who then used his own creativity to create the movie (possibly the greatest sci fi movie ever made) and released it along with the book.

ok i didn't wanted to start a new thread ,but i am trying to find out the name of this one movie that i only remember some scenes of, and since you guys know a lot about movies i am going to ask it here :
It was when i was about 6-7 yrs old and my mamu was watching this movie with his friends and i wasnt allowed to see it because supposedly it was a controversial one (may be even banned in pak )... neways ,the opening scene had adam completely naked lying on a beach , and after some time eve comes, and then they were eating grapes or something , thats all i remember of the movie. the memory is very vague since i was just a little kid back then , watching this movie is one of the things i wanna do before i die .........i have tried asking many people abt it but nobody seems to know about it !may be one of you guys do ??.i have been really curious abt watching this movie because i wasnt allowed to watch it back then......... !btw the i was born in 85 so i guess the movie was made in late 80's or maybe early 90's ? i m not sure!!

I was forced to watch The Devil Wears Prada :)

I thought I was going to hate it, but I have to admit it wasnt too bad and was quite funny in parts.

Watched this Indian movie " No Smoking " a couple of days back. Although slightly confusing , i thought this was a good attempt at something different.

Oceans 13.

Loved it. Slick, cool and well made - almost as good as Oceans XI and way better than Oceans 12.

Watched a film called Hitcher the other day with Sean Bean in it.

Was pretty good, some horror and suspense. I wasnt too sure about the film, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Om Shanti Om - very good.

Saawariya - Will not do well in Indian Cinema, i can assure you. Not because its a bad film, just the indian people can't understand/don't like watching these kinds of movies/ignorant to these kinds of film.

no offense to anyone tho, i guess many pakistanis are included in that list as well.

...I have watched International Man of Mystery, and I think it was better than Goldmember...

both were good though...

Lions for Lambs - excellent movie, directed by Robert Redford

He stars as a political science professor, Tom Cruise a slimey US Senator trying to sell to journalist, played by Meryl Streep, a foray into Iran. Compelling viewing.

Hahah me and my cousins went to see Saawariya. They were showing OM Shanti Om at the same theater. There were 9 groups of people ahead of us, and ALL 9, I kid you not, bought tickets for Om Shanti Om. So 9 groups, let's say about 4 people each. That's 36 ppl straight that bought tickets for Om Shanti Om.

I told my cousins this, and he's ilke "maybe we should see Om Shanti Om lol".

Don't regret it at all.
