Okay so I only managed Volume 1 yesterday. Superb again, particularly the last 40 minutes. Tarantino's mastery of language and his ability to push its boundaries is a signature that takes a back seat for once, to the chronically excessive violence and gore. But of course because it's QT he pulls it off, with more than a small measure of black comedy.

On the issue of these crossovers, I noticed a billboard behind The Bride for Red Apples, the Pulp Fiction cigarette brand.

Yeap good pickup with the continuity of his film universe.

Also - wait until Volume 2. Bills character is quite unforgettable

Thread opener "Sean" Last Activity: 22nd April 2009 on PP i.e. 3 years, 8 months, and 20 days

What happened to him? any idea?

Texas Chainsaw 3D
6/10

Okay movie. Got bashed by everyone but not as bad. There are ZERO likable characters in the movie though. And oh yeah the designated villain Leatherface generates the most sympathy.

I actually liked I better than II. The whole build up to Bill was great but once she gets to meet Bill the story just comes to a halt. The action sequences between Bill and Uma are also not impressive enough. I thought the eye gouging scene was quite traumatic and gory but still that scene probably stayed with me longer than any other.

Kill Bill overall failed on my expectations for QT. He still does an amazing job taking up different genres and giving them the QT treatment, it does still lack originality. But maybe I'm judging him on a different scale. He really is so unique that it's hard to compare him with other directors. His movies can simply be called "extremely well made, intellectually stimulating and stylistically brilliant B movies"

Anyone remember QT's character in Planet Terror? The way he just started melting and his...things fell down in semi-solid state. Squicky :D

Anyone seen 'The Crow'? One of the best dark, gothic, revenge movies I've seen in a while.

RIP Brandon Lee

Yeah same liked part one better. But Bills dialogue was amazing.

The day of the Jackal....it is all about a thorough/complete preparation an assassin goes through in planting an assassination. In this case, French prime minster who always got lucky to escape through in many previous attempts. Nice movie. I liked it.

7/10

watching inception for the first time..how did I miss this gem ? scintillating stuff!!

I know ! when it first came out , I thought it was overhyped . Watched it last year and have listed it as my favorite movie of all time .

Limitless is also a good watch .

IMO Inception gets better with repeat viewings, you get your head around it a little bit more every time. It's crafted immaculately, although I still say the characterisation is mediocre. Only Ariadne really held my attention, because you are kind of seeing this world through her innocent eyes.

Absolutely loved Django Unchained btw. Might get around to writing a full review later if i get time.

I'll just say from reading the reviews of others that Samuel L Jackson hasn't had enough mention for his performance as Stephen who is quite possibly the most despicable African American character in the history of cinema. Gutsy guy to play that role and pulled it off with scary brilliance.

In UK, buy Cinecard Unlimited card

best way to watch film as much you can, can't wait for 3 or 4 months for a DVD print.

I saw Maachis yesterday. Although a Bollywood picture and 15 years old I will still recommend it as it is quite realistic and moving as well.

A film (based on a true story) that looks at some of the root causes of Terrorism that occurred in the Punjab areas of India during the 80s.

Matru Ki Bijilee Ka Mandola -- A Vishal Bhara.....errr...Pankaj Kapoor Film !!

The movie takes on a very serious subject of Land grabbing, Special Economic Zones, conditions of farmers...industrialists...politicians...but facades it as a Political Satire with eccentric Humor....at times over the top.

Pankaj Kapoor...Holy freaking Legend !!!!!!!!! Undoudtedly one of the finest performances I have ever seen in Hindi cinema....he just pulled of finest performance of his career by miles....As a ferocious industrialist when sober..and a vulnerable....hurt man when drunk ...I just wonder why he choose to be so selective in his movies unlike his fellow actors like Naseerudhin Shah, Paresh rawal and nana patekar!!!! Brilliant...Brilliant...holy effing brilliant...no words ...watch the genius at his best....

Shabana Azmi as a politician...that one scene where she describes what is wrong with india post independence was a pro at work....I wish we got to know more about her character....

Anushka Sharma pulls of her role with ease...the fact that she manages to hold our attention when sharing the screen with Pankaj kapoor is a testimony to her acting....

Imran Khan.....you cannot help but feel sorry for the guy....just seems so out of place with such talents around him. Guy has definately tried as much as he can..and at times pulls of the scenes very well...however you can see his struggle with the haryani dialect...close ups with require strong emotions...I wish somebody like Irfan Khan was given this character....

Arya Babbar was a delight as a dumb son ...

Vishal Bharadwaj the director stumbles at a few places ...he looses track of the main plot in the movie..and goes overboard at a few places. The whole plane sequences was long and over the top!!! First half hour struggles at have your attention......Using Pink Buffalo as a hallucination was typical Vishal at work...eccentric..over the top..and genius !!!! Fact that he does not spoon feed the audience may actually go against him the the box office.....The number of hidden satires is huge....right from the small names of the streets...names of the characters.....gestures....One of the finest piece of writing in recent times...I am sure you will find new things each time you see the movie...if only the screenplay was as good for a second viewing.....

Personally...Vishal's Finest work after his Shakespeare Adoptations(Maqbool and Omkara )..

Do not believe the dumbass review of Taran Adarsh and co who give 4 stars for Sajid Khan's housefull and 1.5 for this movie...

Watch it....It is nice to see ratings in IMDB increasing...it was a pathetic 4.8 yesterday..it had climbed to 6.6 now...will probably end at 8/10

My Rating: 8/10 ...Recommended!!!

Man on a Ledge - Excellent movie.. thrill/suspense from start to finish

End of Watch - Slightly slow, but engrossing one hour movie of the lives of two cops in the ghettos.. must watch.. unexpected ending.

I believe everybody here must have seen Shutter Island.. If not, then do so as soon as possible..

Skyfall -8.5/10

Bond girl was superfluous and movie had two 10-15 minute periods which dragged. But I liked the movie's ending which was perfect. Daniel Craig was superb. The villain deserves more love. Bardem did well with little and was even a little sympathetic. I also liked Dame Judi Dench's work a lot more notably
her death scene
.

Overall, movie was miles ahead of Quantum of Solace notably in terms of avoiding the painful shaky cam action sequences. I rate this same as Casino Royale. I have only seen Craig series though I know some of the characters from earlier movies which made the ending a little sweeter.

Waiting for Django to reach theatres. Suppressing need to watch a DVDSCR of it. Easier said than done.

PS: Does anybody know that there was an old western named "Django" in which the lead actor was played by Franco Nero. Nero has a cameo in Django Unchained. Nice touch by QT.

matru ki bijli ka mandola

nice film , 7/10, vishal bharadwaj in his elements. acting was top notch- pankaj kapur is great is always, shabana, arya babbar and anushka were good too. the script was interesting especially given the state of indian politics.

The Jacket.......I am still figuring out if Jack Starcs was dead or not.....me thinks he was dead...kind of confusing movie....nice movie...7/10

I watched a brilliant quality dvdscr of Django. Loved it so much im going to see it at the cinema when it comes out here.

Seen Kill Bill all the way through now and I prefer Volume 1.

Volume 2 is just as beautifully shot but seems slightly overlong or too talky, and there are less standout scenes. The Bride's escape from the coffin and the backstory behind it were beautiful; there is a clever reference to King Lear with the removal of the eye; and the Mexican standoff with the assassin after the pregnancy test evoked genuine empathy.

But 'twists' like the case of money having a nasty surprise in it, The Bride finding the old sword hidden in the caravan, and her 'secretly' knowing the deathblow all along and saving it for the end were very easy to predict. And the film initially takes 20 minutes or so to get off the ground, whereas with the opening of Volume 1 with the domestic battle you were straight into the action. Overall there was nothing in Volume 2 to top that blistering final 40 minutes of Volume 1.

Put simply I watched Volume 2, while Volume 1 lifted me out of my seat.

old Django is one of my fav westerns.. same opening theme used in Django unchained too.
few of Neros oneliners are epic and got lots of bad$$$ scenes

Margin call

A riveting film with a great cast set over 18 hours about a US investment firms discovery of the companys meltdown and the subsequent drastic step the high management take to save it

8/10

Circumstance

A film centred around two teenage iranian girls whos increasing rebellious behaviour puts them at odds with the strict environment they live in

A controversial film that in the end falls well short of a positive result, In trying to hammer down the unjust nature of the iranian govt and its society the director forgets to focus on the quality of the story itself

5/10

Catch Me if you can

Excellent movie,8/10

But bigger news is that i have found a very good Django Unchained torrent...:yahoo

James ,What about Kill Bill Vol 2 background score or Music.....?

Is it worth watching or not?

Definitely worth watching. Just a decent film though IMO as opposed to the largely excellent and better-paced Vol.1.

zero dark thirty- good movie 8/10, kept you interested in the story and the recreation of OBL's killing was riveting. many of the shots of pakistan seemed to be shot in india. jessica chastain deserves the oscar nom.

Philanthropy 2002

Fascinating look at the struggle to transition from communism to capitalism in Romania told in the most satirical of ways...the lengths one will go through to simply take a girl to a nice restaurant...

Fight Club for the first time in a good year. What a brilliant film!

The original Alien. My favourite one.

There was a point last year where I did not watch a film for literally months, but I seem to be journeying through my DVD library of late.

I personally found alien as overrated. It's creepy to a degree but I found it on the boring side for some reason. I even watched it twice. I rate the thing from 1982 higher than it. No offence to alien fans.

Yeah, it gets less boring with time and repeated viewings. There are some pretty slow sections though.

What I find impressive are the set design and visual effects; the Alien is a phallic menace and the interior of the Nostromo a work of art, while the crash site and decimated corpse in the chair above the egg nest are superb. Alien deservedly won technical awards.

The maternal, sexual, and lustful contexts around the Alien are fascinating and original. Sigourney, Veronica, John Hurt, and Sir Ian Holm are pretty damn good in it as well.

Yeah. The chestbuster scene was harrowing. Plus Giger's creature design is simply superb. Just that I found it underwhelming. Maybe another watch is due?

Hurt and Scott hid their plans for the chestbursting scene from the rest of the cast. Some of the fear and disgust around the table was genuine.

I acknowledge that it's a weird one. Best watched with headphones on your own in the dark. There are only bursts of terror and action; much of the film is visual, dialogue-driven, and quietly menacing.

I can see why Alien has been more respected while Aliens has generally been more popular.

Serbian flicks really don't hold back...

Just watched 'Klip'...a pretty bleak look at the state of Serbian youth today...kind of like the Serbian version of Kids but rawer...and although about Serbia a lot of aspects ring true for the UK too...if ever you wanted to see a film which showed how nihilistic youth are today this is a good movie to show it...that said its not a great film to watch...there are a lot of parts that do drag on...its a 90 minute movie but it could have been shortened...the FSU seems however pretty good at these types of movies...

matru ki bijli ka mandola..what an absolute rubbish..made no sense at all..imran khan should stop acting in the movies..4/10

The Battle of Algiers (1966):

One of the great war films, directed by Italian Gillo Pontecorvo. Set during the Algerian War, this film focuses primarily on the conflict between the French and the FLN resistance. For me, the theme of this film was the suffering caused by war, for both the oppressor and oppressed. It is not a nationalist film, and it certainly does not take sides. Rather, it strives only to portray war, and war tactics in the most realistic manner possible, something it was quite successful at. So successful, in fact, that even the Pentagon screened this film in 2003, as a means for preparing for Iraq. I definitely recommend watching this film.

Zero Dark Thirty:

Another war film, directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Shortly put, it was fantastic. I haven't been this enticed by a film in years. I don't want to ruin it, so I won't speak of it much. Just trust me, and go see it ASAP.

Django unchained - 8.5/10

Downloaded a torrent of it and was dismayed to see the running time was close to 3 hours. However the movie quickly took hold n of my attention and I sat glued to the screen.

The dialougue is witty as usual, b movie style filming and soundtrack and excessive explosions of blood make you realise that this can only be a Tarantino film. This guy makes movies that people will enjoy, where there is a clear good guy and bad guys and you sit cheering on the hero. Very old school. Watching this movie I had the feeling that QT didnt make this film for you or I. He just brought a vision to screen and I can imagine him nerdishly laughing his way through it, paying homage to films he enjoyed and letting his imagination run wild.

The casting of Samuel L Jackson as Steven was inspired. When you think of Jackson you think of a strong black man but he really embraced the part perfectly. His reaction when Django was to be allowed to sleep in the big house gave me goosebumps and was a brave move by QT to portray such a character.

Django unchained-good movie, cast is amazing and dialogues are refreshing

Silver linings playbook-It is now in my favorite romantic movies list along with The Notebook,A walk to Remember and American Beauty

Going for the Last stand tomorrow despite it bombing at the box office. Couple of my buddies told me it's a good watch. R-Rated Pure Action movies rarely work at the US Box Office. Dredd despite being good flopped. Somehow Expendables 1 and 2 worked. Stallone still has the golden touch-Rocky Balboa, Rambo, Expendables 1 and 2 all were successful.

Watched "braveheart" again ,loved it as much as i did the first time i saw it years back, a truly epic mpvie , edge of the seat stuff all the way through .
8.8/10.
scottish accent and the girl who played murron <3

The Bucket List - Was very good. I really enjoyed the story and the whole morale behind it.

Next on my list is Syriana. I've heard a few good reviews about it from friends.

There Will Be Blood is on BBC2 at 11 tonight.

Not seen it in several years so am preparing to be subtly blown away again.

^^

Just saw Lincoln and Daniel Day Lewis keeps the film alive. 7/10. Direction got messy half way through the film and the script really lagged but picked up towards the end. If it wasn't for DDL, this film would've been all over the place.
