Argo 9.5/10

Superb movie. Suspenseful, funny and entertaining. Highly recommended. NOT boring at all. However I still think Moonrise Kingdom is the best film of 2012.

^ Hah. Or maybe Kyle Abbott is actually a Pakistani from Abbotabad? Like Sahir Ludhianvi from Ludhiana?

I finally came around to watching A Separation:

Beautiful film. Simple, yet chilling. It initially focuses on a family experiencing divorce, and then expands into a complex portrayal of Iranian society. The film's name, taken literally, obviously refers to the separation of the family. But at a finer level, it also comments on the separation between the rural and working classes within Iranian society, as well as the separation between the religious and the secular. A well paced film, with very clever direction, it's main strength is how it involves the audience within its plot. Nothing is stated clearly, and much of it left to your interpretation.

If you have the chance, please watch it. There will no doubt in your mind as to why it won the Academy Award last year.

Interesting analogies.

One of the best movies I've seen in the last few years, period.

I have been putting that movie off for a week..I heard great things about it and the obvious Academy award nomination tag on it.

Gonna watch it for sure inshaAllah.

Watched Side Effects, pretty good crime/mystery/psychology movie, you can watch it for Jude Law alone, superb performance as always from him. There's no sudden twist, they slowly unravel what's going on and you know what's happening before the end itself but an engaging view nevertheless.

Watched Cannibal Holocaust on youtube. Cheap & tacky film making.

Did you know that Hostel II had a cameo by Cannibal Holocaust director Ruggero Deodato playing appropriately enough a Cannibal?

He played a dude listening to classical music and cutting off a guy's foot and eating it with fork and knife. I dunno I just laughed. :))

no,I mean how have they allowed it.from what I have heard, its beyond graphic

There was a scene where an actress was impaled with a bamboo. The director was arrested cause they thought he had actually killed the actress. The actress was then summoned and the director demonstrated the special effects. Still he had to do jail time for slaughtering animals. CH was mostly responsible for the PETA warning that appears in movies. Spawned an entire subgenre of Cannibal movies which have actual animal killings.

@leatherface58 : remember you were into Korean movies ? Would be cool if you can propose some good titles ! Watched all the 'classics' (A Bittersweet Life :asif, I saw the devil :kami, ...) and don't have any idea which one to watch now.

And for peoples who want some gore (but doesn't make sense at all, lol) try A Serbian Film... :azhar

You are a sadist :))) Recommending A Serbian film to unsuspecting folk :moyo

Shutter is a good thai film. Not gory but scary, creepy.

I don't watch as many Korean films but Oldboy was good. Infact the whole vengeance trilogy is pretty good. Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Oldboy and Lady Vengeance are good Korean thrillers.

I watch more giallo, Italian murder mysteries with lot of violence :asif. Suspiria, Deep Red, A Bay of blood are classics and precursors to the slasher genre.

lol seems you liked A Serbian Film. :D

Oh yeah, watched Oldboy but missed the two other flicks of the trilogy, so might try them.

I'm quite a noob in terms of Italian cinema, even if some of my friends recommended me some 'Westerns'... only Italian movies I ever went through are the Bicycle Tieves ('art movie', goes back to :don's days I think) and Pasolini's Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (don't ask why :moyo :D)
Thanks for the titles, was feeling all tuk-tuk, need some violence. :misbah

Lol I didn't watch A Serbian Film, atleast not completely. A particular scene REALLY pissed me off on a moral level. I know it's horror and meant to push boundaries but that scene had no point, no meaning and was just there to shock. Worse is the filmmakers hiding behind the excuse that movie is giving a political message.

Baby scene I guess ?

And lol was quite funny seeing them how they justified it, or were trying to... like 'the whole movie is a metaphor (:danish) for the wars which recently happened in the Balkans...' :yk

Yep that's the one. It's idiot fans justify it by saying they have seen worse. Damn if there is anything than the baby scene, I do not want to watch it.

Yep, surprised utube have not taken it down.

The animal slaughter scenes are grotesque. The human torture/killings scences look fake. Overall, a poor movie.

Yeah, have heard about that part.......

:boom:!

Went to see 'Stoker' today. As a fan of the vengeance trilogy I was really looking forward to his english film directorial debut. The movie was cowritten by Wentworth Miller of Prison Break frame but was really underwhelming.

It was very stylish and some cool dialogue too. The imagery is fantastic but the film doesn't seem to go anywhere and becomes quite predictable.

Nicole Kidman looks wonderful throughout and there are some great moments but I wouldnt give it more than a 6/10. I left disappointed.

Yeah, the baby scene was unbelievable. Way past a line that shouldn't be crossed.

I just guess shock value was important.

Watch Side Effects, a very decent crime/mystery film, and don't forget Hobbit, Dark Knight Rises and Avengers for entertainment value. End of Watch is pretty good too.

Citizen X

Compelling made for TV drama about Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo. 9/10

Forgot Argo, Django Unchained and Silver Linings Playbook

Oldboy is part of a trilogy?

Little Big Man - 8/10. Watched it in my film class, good revisionist western with a good story and acting from Dustin Hoffman. Shows the reality of how white people butchered the Natives.

Kill Bill- 9/10. Watched both parts and loved them equally. QT is an amazing filmmaker. It had some great action scenes, good story and dialogues. Acting was top notch.

Night of the Hunter- 7/10. This movie is regarded as a classic but I really can't see why. It was an average movie and didn't even have much suspense or anything. The story kept wandering into different directions, some scenes didn't make sense and new characters appeared from nowhere. Granted this movie was made in 1955 but still. Robert Mitchum's acting was on point though.

It's not a formal trilogy or narratively connected. They all have a story of revenge and are only thematically linked to each other.

I see.

Something about Koreans and revenge flicks.

I must get around to watching I saw the Devil.

Insanely gory horror comedy. Not scary. But hilarious in places and EXTREMELY violent.

7/10

Sinister
6/10

Starts off pretty well. Supernatural stuff. But it gets lame in the end. All those tribal/mythological explanations for the paranormal activity -_-

Gentlemen!!finally we have The Hobbit in good print (720p and 1080p)....Have downloaded it,but do not know when i will have 3 hours to watch it....

In keeping with my recent affinity for Middle Eastern Cinema, today I watched Turtles Can Fly, by Bahman Ghobadi. The film centers on the plight of Kurds in Iraq. Ghobadi, a Kurd himself, unravels his film in the most sensitive way: through the perspective of children. The children, mostly orphans residing within a refugee camp, have formed a self-sufficient society, in a manner very reminiscent of the children in Golding's Lord of the Flies. Ghodabi does not hold withhold much when revealing the effects of the Iraqi-Kurdish conflict on these children; every one of has suffered an unthinkably cruel past. Through this, Ghodabi demonstrates the extensive loss of innocence children endure from war.

While I found this film extremely difficult to watch, this is undoubtedly the reaction Ghodabi wished to draw from his audience. And for that reason, I commend this film for successfully accomplishing its mission. It was very interesting and unique to see the repercussions of war through the eyes of children; the transformation it causes within them is haunting.

Blair Witch Project 1/10 - Overrated crap
Django Unchained 4/10 - Decent acting from Leo, Sam Jackson and Waltz but Tarantino films are just plain stoopid.
Moonrise Kingdon 8/10 - funny and entertaining movie

Just watched this movie. It is like 6/10 at best. I would have given it a miss had it not been filmed in Manhattan and that cop's acting. He tried to be a real party pooper!

watched journey of hope this weekend on netflix

won oscar of best foreign movie in 1991

a swiss/turkish movie about illegal turkish immigrants to swizerland. i highly recoomend it for serious movie watchers.

In a village in eastern Turkey, tales of the economic success of Turks in Switzerland inspire Haydar to convince his wife Meryem that they must go. He sells their livestock and small plot of land in exchange for passage for two. He wants to leave their seven children in the care of the eldest and his parents; his father advises him to take one son to be educated in Europe, as economic insurance. The three set off for Istanbul, Milan, and Switzerland, stowing away on a ship. At Lake Como, they pay the rest of their money to unprincipled men who abandon them at an Alpine pass before a blizzard. Father and son are separated from Meryem. Will anyone reach the land of promise?

Good Day To Die Hard. Not often does a movie disappoint you, even when you don't expect too much, this one did. 4.25/10

Special 26: 8/10
Kai Po Che: 8.5/10

Les Miserables: 5/10. Went after hearing rave reviews and Oscar buzz. Was a major disappointment.
