Calvary...excellent movie...thought provoking...shows what a crisis we are facing as a people...and some very good black humor if you like that kind of thing...definitely recommended...

Broken...Korean thriller which while getting decent reviews just didn't resonate with me...I think Korean revenge flicks have set the bar too high...it wasn't bad...it just wasn't great...

Been meaning to see Calvary. Very few Irish films these days. That and Baelish from Game of thrones is in it

I regret not going for a movie night. In a casual talk I told a south korean girl that I like korean movies, and she asked why don't you come over to my apartment for a movie night? I ran cold feet and now regret missing out on some good korean movies. Glad that endymion enjoys his movie nights.

You missed out on much more than just "some good Korean" .....movies. Anyhow, better luck next time.

You didn't like Match point or Vicky Cristina Barcelona? Irrespective of Scarlett Johansen both are brilliant movies. I would highly recommend them to any cinephile.
Not like that. I meant if you don't have the time to watch those two flicks and want to watch Scarlett do her thang, better look at the poster of Lucy.

bro where have you been..need an updated foreign movie list from you to watch soon iA. :p

No problems bro, I've only seen Korean flicks and K/dramas recently but that I have seen and are worth a watch:

The New World Order

A gangster flick which is strong in thriller/drama/suspense. Some top notch performances especially by the leads and whilst the gangster/police formula is hardly original, the twists and turns, back stabbing and moments of brief but shocking violence make this an excellent watch. Holds it's own alongside The Departed and Internal affairs.

Confession of Murder

A smart thriller based on a serial killer which I found very entertaining as it keeps you guessing until its enthralling twist and conclusion.

The Suspect

Pretty much like a Bourne movie with the fast hand to hand shakey cam action. A standard story elevated by the action scenes.

A Company Man

This is about a hitman who quits his job for a girl, only to find himself being hunted down by his former employers. It has shades of A Bitter Sweet Life and just like that, the action is very slick. Nothing original or ground breaking but I found the idea and execution of it to be charming.

A Werewolf Boy

Despite its title its a romance based movie, albeit an excellent one but a real tear-jerker.

Snowpiercer

Starring Chris Evans of Captain America I was really looking forward to this but ended up feeling disappointed, somewhat. Maybe I expected too much after seeing the reviews and hearing how mind-blowing it was but it never felt right, it started quite well and the idea was very original but the execution and the second half were a let down.

I've seen the first 3...the first two are excellent especially New World...excellent gangster flick...

Two other decent Korean flicks I've seen recently are Cold Eyes and The Terror Live...the latter in particular is excellent...

I've seen Cold Eyes and it was a smart flick. The villain seemed invincible but it was necessary. I need to check Terror Live.

I agree with your earlier post in general, the standards of Korean movies have dropped a notch.

I got an interesting question. How come in most films the bad guy doesn't win? I want to see films where villains, criminals etc win get away with stuff.

Usual Suspects also comes to mind...plenty of films where the bad guys win :) ...

8/10

A very good horror film which is strangely quite sad. Reminded me of Session 9 in that regard. Also includes my favourite horror component: Humans being the monsters rather than the supernatural entity. Del Toro is a master at visuals and it's no different here.

Donnie Darko

A troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a large bunny rabbit that manipulates him to commit a series of crimes, after narrowly escaping a bizarre accident.

Good movie , suspense with hint of Time travel. A movie for intelligent people.

8 / 10

Donnie is already dead

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I watched it again, but only the scenes involving Scarlett Johansson. Before this movie, I was not aware about her, but now I just want to see that expression less face. I liked her nose, and googled for images of her nose...and what do I find? That according to plastic surgeons she has a perfect nose, making an angle of 106 degrees. I gave myself 10/10 for identifying perfection before any plastic surgeon tells me.

Can you quit your day job and become a full time film critic?

This is an amazing review.

:))

What about that Stranger horror film?

Fast and the Furious. Lol they all get away with basically blowing countless towns up, crashing a lot of cars, stealing a lot of money etc., and in most endings they are all sipping margaritas from an amazing Spanish villa on the beach.

Also, yes, The Strangers, and Wolf Creek, Zodiac - they all get away with it.

'I am 24' (2010)

The ending looked a bit forced upon for the sake of it having a happy ending, otherwise it was still a very good and enjoyable film, with its short length being the biggest plus.

I am not denying the possibility of a young girl falling for an old and bald guy, but I can´t imagine this happening given that he continued to lie even after they met, and then suddenly he tells it all. Firstly, not only about the age and the hair, he lied about every other thing, including about his profession etc., and secondly, they should ideally have shown him telling her the truth before she visited him.

Lastly, this pretty much tells why I sis-zone girls on the Internet, and if any fancies me, as rare as it may be, I immediately tell them that I am just a useless keyboard warrior.

Man! you have seen a lot of films haven't you?

Pardon me if I'm wrong but is that Christian Bale (Batman) in your profile picture?

My favourite trilogies of all-time:-

1. The Dark Knight Trilogy
2. Back to the Future Trilogy
3. Rush Hour Trilogy
4. Ocean Trilogy
5. The Godfather Trilogy
6. Toy Story Trilogy

'Vicky Donor' (2013)

Not meant for family viewing, surely not, but what a brilliant film! Very funny in parts and the whole plot itself is quite entertaining.

The best thing in the film was the grandmother of the guy. What a woman:14:! They showed a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law drinking together, which was funny I felt:)).

It´s planned that I might watch another film today itself in about an hour and half´s time. Justcrazy will feel jealous of me I assume.

Interesting topic. I too had liked the movie.

Jealous that he'll be wasting 2 and a half hours of his life watching some ridiculous Bollywood movie? Oh dear!

thanks.

have u seen nameless gangster? everytime I put on nameless gangster I end up doing something else. I read that its a good movie will have to watch it now. seen Snowpiercer and it was just trash.

Watched False Trail cos someone on here recommended it...

i quite like Swedish thrillers but this was quite underwhelming for me despite strong performances especially from Peter Stormare in his native tongue...not bad but nothing memorable...

SPOILER...

I think i prefer whodunits as opposed to the cat and mouse game...

thanks.

Yes, good film and similar to Scorsese's Goodfellas although not quite as good imo.

Sightseers

Another twisted movie by Ben Wheatley following on from Kill List. I like his style in particular for the outageous and it was on display here. Slightly lighter in tone than Kill List but a brutal oddball of a dark comedy which felt very English.

A good watch but definitely not for everyone.

I will look into your recommendations. Also, can you also suggest some good SCARY movie. I got a few from leatherface58 and wouldnt mind any of your international suggestions either.

'Entertainment' (2014)

Not a bad film but it could have been better if they had added more comedy to it.

Guardians of the Galaxy

The name says it all. Funny, unapologetic, self-deprecating and unpretentious. Basically take Star Wars and turn it on its head. The story is a mess at times and very predictable but it's really a character driven sci-fi fantasy cum comedy romp. But despite its goofiness, quite unexpectedly, it has moments of genuine emotion and sadness. The 80's soundtrack is absolutely the most brilliant thing about this movie.

"Kick-ass" is another movie of recent times that come to mind similar in concept to this one.

By the way how skinny is Zoe Saldana.

Studying is what I call time wasting, alongside jogging, hitting the gym etc. to lose weight. I gain knowledge through films, and if a film turns out to be bad, that too is a valuable piece of information that I have acquired, and I burn calories by punching in the air, saying "Beat him!" when the hero finally gets hold of the villain.

A good movie- vastly over rated. They over-did it with the 80's music imo. 6/10

Never thought of that...but I like it [emoji106]

Netflix. Many free movies, and the paid ones are very cheap. Plus part of your money goes to the people who worked hard to entertain you.

Netflix US only isn't it? Its a really cheap service compared to the competition, pity they haven't made it available outside US

Netflix even has it's own TV series like House of Cards, Orange is the new black. It even resurrected dead shows like Arrested Development and the ironically titled the Killing.

Neighbors_(2013)_Poster.jpg

8/10

Hilarious movie. Zac Efron shows growth as a performer with his portrayal of the villain who may not be so bad. Seth Rogen is good in his usual man child role. Rose Byrne is superb as the insane wife. Some really funny sequences in this movie though it does have an element of truth with the refusal of fratboys to grow up and the couple showing their immaturity to boot.

Is the Heat film worth watching? - I still have the VHS tape of that film which I found yesterday in my attic and it was still unopened despite 16 years of holding it lol guess I completely forgot about it but want your views if that film is good?

Some of the best scenes in the movie are ones with the "awesome mix tape" playing in the background. I guess one has to like that genre of music to appreciate it.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 8.5/10, great movie. Lots of laugh out loud moments, whole theater was cracking up... impressive doing without any jokes centered on the reproductive system. was sometimes quite cheesy and cliched, but great overall.

Boyhood - 9/10

Can't get this movie out of my head...... i don't even know what it is.... one of the best i've seen.

It is Frightfest season on Film4. Watched two classics- Psycho & The Birds.

'Bewakoofiyaan' (2014)

Short and enjoyable! I really like Ayushmann Khurrana and aim to watch all of his films from now on, having caught up with his first three recently.

I felt very happy for the maid when they decided not to leave for Dubai just at the last minute.

Appleseed Alpha - Regretting not getting the 1080p version. First true animation movie I have seen that is quality and not girly. Gonna re-download the full HD version tonight.

As a tribute to the late Robbin Williams...watched Aladdin with my 3 year old son and Good Will hunting with wife

tt0021814.jpg

7/10

An average horror film propped up by some great cinematography and three fantastic performances, they being Van Helsing portrayed with wisdom by Edward Van Sloan, Renfield who pretty much became a blueprint for future Renfields due to Dwight Frye's hilarious but tragic performance and finally Bela Lugosi as THE Dracula. No one and I mean no one has come close to this portrayal and the performers have included Christopher Lee, Gary Oldman, Frank Langella and even Klaus Kinski.

The film is pretty campy and has not aged well but Lugosi's performance continues to be creepy and people who have watched the current vampire crap are surprised that this vampire was such a monster yet so charming. A classic and highly important film though not necessarily a great film.

The Butler.

A true story about a black butler who served for 30 years under various US President's.

Interesting film - 6/10.

Veronica Mars

Years after walking away from her past as a teenage private eye, Veronica Mars gets pulled back to her hometown - just in time for her high school reunion - in order to help her old flame Logan Echolls, who's embroiled in a murder mystery

A good watchable movie ..... with a surprise ending.

7.5 / 10

A long way down - 4 people meet while attempting suicide, and somehow end up like a family supporting each other. Nice movie. 6/10

The Amazing Spiderman 2 - You get what you expect from any spiderman movie. Very nice.

Captain America the Winter Soldier - Extremely good movie. 8/10

That movie was a disappointment to be fair but Winter Soldier was fantastic but I don't understand why they called it as Winter Soldier since there wasn't that much of Winter Soldier and film was more about Hydra Organization.

Yeah, name doesn't make much sense. Maybe, this just marked the return of Winter Soldier as a lead character.
