Need something that makes one think about stuff in general, without being too depressing or action-packed.

If not that, then some really involving mystery. The kind that has you hooked throughout.

No horror or rom/coms please.

If all else fails, I'd go and re-watch Disney's Beauty and the Beast bec that movie is beautiful. And I love it.

The man from earth? Not that much of a mystery, but a good one IMO.

Enemy. Will DEFINITELY make you think, at the end you will be left with a lot to take in and nothing at the same time, if that even makes sense.

Thanks! what are they about??

I also have yet to see gone girl. And the wolf of wall street. And 12 years a slave X_X

Watch gone girl first if you haven't. It's less of a mind**** than Enemy, which is about a regular guy played by Jake Gylenhaal who is a History professor in college who happens to have a "supposed" doppelganger who is a failed actor. It's not a comedy movie, more of suspense/drama/thriller with a very interesting end with many interpretations.

Man from earth is harmless suspense/mystery, no violence, just dialogues and shot in a single room. But still excellent.

One of my favorite suspense+thriller ones is "the usual suspects". you won't believe the ending! it's an action movie, though.

Watch Kubo and the Two Strings, the new animated movie which came out recently you'll really love it. Or Zootopia! but you've probably seen that already

That's my all time favourite animated movie :)) the live action version will be released next year with Emma Watson as Belle.

If you like foreign movies then I suggest you watch Embrace Of The Serpent. Based on the story of two scientists & a Amazonian tribesman in search of a sacred healing plant. Slow burner but worth a watch.

Now, that's a challenge that it should arouse tour thinking and be non-depressing at the same time.

Personally i like mystery genre the most. So, my recommendations are !

A few good men
Zodiac
The Prestige
The usual suspects
Se7en
A history of violence
The insider
Witness for the prosecution ( if you don't mind black and white, although i myself really like it)
The Machinist
The Ghost Writer
The Game
Sherlock Holmes
Mississippi Burning
Frequency

I don't know which of you have already seen so i give you plenty of names.

I don't know how useful is the 2 minute deadline for the re-edit. Because couple of more names came to my mind and i would have replaced "which of" by "which ones"

Woah, thank you! I haven't seen ANY of those X_X This list will last me a good while, along with some recs above too! :)

But just saw Gone Girl yesterday - woah, that was amazing!

Watched departed for the 9th time. No joke. My 4th favourite movie of all time.

Glad I'm not alone in that.. first time I saw it I ended up watching it 3 more times over the course of the next month.

I think that's where Leo truly announced himself more than a babyface hero from Titanic.

It's easily his best movie for me but people don't talk about it enough. Inception is his second best. I think it has the best cast ever. 2 of my favourite actors in Leo and Nicholson plus some amazing guys like Damon, Wahlberg, Sheen and Baldwin.

David Fincher is a legend in making dark, suspenseful, mysterious movies. His other movies Se7en, Fight club, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and zodiac are very similarly and couple of these are even better than Gone Girl. Of course, taste varies from person to person.
Whatever he touches turns into gold. The Game, The curious case of Benjamin Button and The social network are amazing in their own way. Although The social network is not a mystery.
I was so impressed by his work that i had been waiting for Gone Girl ever since it was announced.

It is my favorite Scorsese movie too. Enjoyed it more than Good fellas although it is a classic in its own right.

Yeah I feel weird in admitting it but it's my favourite Scorsese movie. He is my favourite director of all time and if I rank his top 5 movies is say

Departed
Goodfellas
Raging Bull
Taxi Driver
Casino/Shutter Island

I'd say it would be The Aviator

The Hateful Eight - 9/10 Really enjoyed the movie, pretty good western mystery. Reminded me a little of Agatha Christie's And then there were none.

waqar goraya blinding light fincher is one of my favourite directors but he has under achieved in my opinion. His first 2 movies Se7en and Fight club were so damn amazing but he could never reach those heights again even though Zodiac is an underrated gem and I enjoyed gone girl and social network a lot. My top 5 fincher movies are probably

Se7en (I like it more than fight club. It's a perfect movie)
Fight Club
Zodiac
The Game
Social Network/Gone Girl

I saw it thrice but I was let down when I first saw it seeing as how Tarantinos previous 2 movies were Inglorious and Django which are probably the 2 best movies of the last 7 years along with the Dark Knight. This wasn't nearly as amazing. Still a great movie though.

I want to watch Gone Girl but I bought the book a while back before the movie had released and haven't read it yet.

I was supposed to watch it when it released in the cinema but couldn't I think due to exams but finally got the chance now, I think my rating is also high given the general quality of movies which are released these days. It's a bit weird that it wasn't a hit at the box office, certainly wasn't a flop but should have done better....it was released on the back drop of tensions between black peeps and cops, NYPD boycotted the movie to but even then I don't think that would have as much effect on the release. Maybe it was due to over-kill because his last movie was a western to or people expecting overwhelmingly positive reviews, 68% on metacritic. Think about a 75 would be a better reflection of the quality

Movies are regressing so much because of people with awful tastes who get excited by stuff like suicide squad.

Book is better. Movie is great but it drags. This one scene in the movie was my favourite scene of any movie in 2014 though apart from the ending of whiplash and the video recording scene in interstellar.

There is not even a single below average film through out his career which spans two decades. The girl with the dragon tattoo is also very good as is the curious case of benjamin button. He has also delivered a beautiful TV series in House of Cards.

Whiplash is too good. The supporting role is one of the best i ever watched. J K Simmons is unbelievable. The concept is great and acting is phenomenal. Hollywood has not delivered a movie so good since The Dark Knight.

Even though you can deem it a financial success the critically acclaimed movies usually make a lot more money in that genre as we've seen from the marvel movies, captain america crossed the $1 billion barrier. Movies like Bats v Supes, Suicide Squad had record openings but also held records for the biggest drop following the opening weekend.

The movies are not living up to their potential or the expectations from fans so DC will be concerned because they could be making more money. The Amazing Spider-Man reboot was okay but it experienced the same problem so Sony finally agreed to giving Marvel creative control for the Spider-Man: Homecoming movie which will be released next year.

Will be reading the book then and watch the movie later at some point, need to see Whiplash

Then you have clearly haven't watched enough movies :) There have been many great movies since.

The more I watch TDK, the more overrated I think it is. IMO, Batman Begins is the best Batman movie to date.

Some movies I have watched recently:

Blair Witch- as a fan of the original, I thought this was very well made by Adam Wingard. Creepy & unsettling at times & explores the legend of the witch further. Linked directly to the 1999 movie. 7/10

Don't Breathe- a different take on the house invasion genre. Full of frights & tension. 8/10

Green Room- contains brutally graphic violence & tension. A film about a rock group holed up inside a club. Waiting outside are a group of neo-nazis. Must watch. 8/10

Embrace Of The Serpant (subtitled)- the story about two scientists & a Amazonian tribesman who are in search of a sacred healing plant. May not be to everyones taste this movie. One of the best of the year for me. 9/10

The Girl With All The Gifts- British zombie flick which is highly rated. IMO, not very original. Many elements have of the movie have already been done before. Some of the child acting is weak. 6/10

Overall it has been a poor year for the so called blockbusters (especially superhero movies) & a good year for horror (my fav genre).

Enough hollywood movies actually, Batman begins is certainly better than the Dark Knight Rises but i personally think TDK is the best of the lot.

Anyways, i am talking in chronological terms. TDK was released couple of years later than BB. There have been very few films in the last decade which are as good as Whiplash.
It is a personal opinion, i don't consider myself a critique at all.

I agree that Whiplash is a amazing movie. JK Simmons performance is next level.

Twelve Angry Men. It is a pretty old movie. But well worth your time. It will keep you on your seat for sure.

I find myself re-watching Batman Begins the most in the trilogy.

Tim Burtons Batman and Batman Returns deserve a lot more recognition then they do as well, both were brilliant. I imagine it must have been tricky taking the dark and gritty character to the mainstream for the first time, he did a great job utilising the source material.

Spectre.

It was ok. Your usual Bond storyline. Enjoyed the car chase scene.

Good for James Bond fans but nothing special

5/10

Partly that but I think if a good movie comes along, people still watch it. Its mainly due to the decline in the number of original auteur directors and the opportunities those directors get in current times. Apart from Tarantino,Fincher and Nolan who can be described as true auteurs, the rest of the industry is full of average and above average talent. Plus with the advent of the "golden age of television" where amazing drama's are churning out on cable TV/Net, the medium of movies like TV has become much more about the writer than the director. Its all become "content" to be consumed, either on your phone, or iPad or laptop.

You forgot Scorsese and Spielberg who are the 2 best directors in the industry today followed by Tarantino and Nolan. Yes Spielberg makes mainstream stuff but he's just so good at what he does.

I was talking about the new lot. Of course who can deny Scorsese and Spielberg.

Baar Baar Dekho

Interesting movie , based on kind of time travel . The movie script gets weak as the movie progress. The climax is not good and fails to create impact.

Katrina looks good but again acting is weak.

4 / 10

I know all you kind folk gave me a ton of recommendations, but this movie was really high on my bucket list, and I just saw it yesterday.

Black Hawk Down.

7.5/10

Based on true events in Somalia, late 1993 - what came to be known as the Battle of Mogadishu: the failed event of a US intervention in Operation "Restore Hope." Portrayed Pakistanis in a decent light too (a UN peacekeeping team based on a Pakistani contingent was present at that time.)..

Although wouldn't rate it high on historical accuracy. The 17/18 US Soldiers who died in the battle, were tortured, mutilated, and their bodies were dragged across the streets of the city - which they obviously did not show; conversely, emphasising only on "no one gets left behind."

That single event ^ shaped all future UNPK policies in such a profound way, that despite the calls to act, the UN did nothing to prevent the Rwandan and Bosnia genocides - lest they go over "The Mogadishu Line."

Must watch for those interested in international politics.

Rwanda, actually. Not so much about the Belgian atrocities, but its about the Rwandan Genocide in 1994.

The movie's called "Shake Hands With the Devil." Based off the memoirs of Canadian General Romeo Dallaire, who served as a Field Commander to the UN peacekeeping forces there, and despite having all intel and means to attack, was forced to shut up and watch while everything burned.

I'm warning you though, there are lots of grisly scenes in there.. It was very depressing..

Thanks a lot. I will watch it even if it is depressing

The Sixth Sense (1999):
A very good horror thriller. its director was a malayali (born in mahi), he also won Padmasree award.

Deepwater Horizon.

Enjoyed it. Based on a true story of the April 2010 disaster involving the offshore drilling rig.

Some excellent special effects and kept me interested.

7/10

The Girl on the Train.

Lots of hype about this film and it was pretty good.

Twists and turns in the storyline and worth a watch.

7/10

John Wick - 7.5/10 fantastic action in terms of the fighting quality, great use of martial arts

ok I just saw a random film and turns out it was a masterpiece (or at least what I think)

Something Real and Good

Finally I've found #2 on my all time list....

1. Keith
2. Something Real and Good

The Sixth Sense (1999):
A very good horror thriller. its director was a malayali (born in mahi), he also won Padmasree award.

When I first watched it, never saw the twist coming :)) Brilliant movie

Under The Shadows

Scary Iranian horror movie set during the 80's war. Genuinely creepy.

Has anyone watched:

In Your Eyes featuring Zoe Kazan ?? Absolutely brilliant film and probably Josh Whedon's best work to date (yes that includes avengers as well)

My ATF list is has finally notched up to 3 movies within a week :)

1) Keith
2) In Your Eyes
3) Something Real and Good

X-Men Apocolypse - 8/10

Solid narrative which made great use of the source material but that was expected from Bryan Singer, the action was brilliant to. The introductions of key characters such as Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm etc were excecuted quiet well.

Down the line there has to be a spin off on Jean Grey, such a compelling charachter and they have so much material to utilize from the dark phoneix saga.

So some one besides me who does not mind romance. What are other movies in your ATF list.

Up until Last week my ATF list only had one name - Keith which was probably the only (Romance) movie in the last decade that left an impression hence it was the undisputed king. This past weekend I saw three films two of which were gems and one was absolute trash.

If you haven't seen In your Eyes or Something Real and Good then please go and watch them - I highly recommend it. In addition, although I haven't seen it yet I am planning on watching Ruby Sparks; heard a lot of good things about the movie by some fellow peers and friends.

Other movies I might recommend are:

Before Sunrise
Before Sunset (sequel to the above movie)
Before Midnight (Part Three) - A very disappointing movie but nonetheless a disappointing last part :(
2 weeks Notice (Loved this Movie)
500 days of summer
Notting Hill - Recommended
Just Friends - Read the symposis before going into this one, a casual flick nonetheless
When Harry met Sally (An 80s flick I don't know whether you'd like it or not but still give it a go)
Made of Honor (Highly Highly Recommended)
What If (Daniel Ratcillfe's best work yet, plus it has Zoe Kazan who I just......adore!!)
The Proposal

Others
Life as we Know it - A very Good Movie
Leap Year - Irish so kinda hard to relate to but still it was a decentish flick
The Switch - Jason Bateman is the lead actor so if you can make out what that means you'd know what to expect
Dear John - This movie is Channing Tatum's best drama role; before Magic mike was a thing, Tatum was known for Dear John and Fighting
Scott Pilgrim vs the World (Not a Serious Romance Movie - based on a graphic novel of the same name)
It's Kind of a Funny Story - Emma Roberts, had to watch it
The Art of Getting By - Emma Roberts, same reason as above
Something Borrowed - (The main plot revolves around the concept of being unfaithful if you're not following your heart. I enjoyed the movie but somewhat of a moral dilemma)
Like Crazy - Another very underrated film, enjoyed every bit of it
One Day - (Beautiful Film - Highly Recommended)
This Means War - (Tom Hardy, Chris Pine and Whiterspoon in a single movie :D) was fun!!
Silver Linings Playbook - (Not Much of a Plot but the lead roles were star actors so had to watch it)
The First Time (A cute Flick)
The Best of Me (Not that great but I'd watch it on a weekend if I have nothing else to do after midnight)
Love, Roise (A highly underrated movie - One of the better ones I've seen over the years)
Sleeping With Other People (Funny Flick - Actually I knew a friend who was similar to the lead role so I coudl relate to the plot :)) )

There are many many others I have watched over the years but I can't state them all can I now :) however the obvious ones such as The Notebook, Titanic, A walk to remember I left out to make the list more interesting.

Lol I had only seen them in small parts when they came on telly but never seen the movies properly, plus the lead is such a hot bad @ss :afridi the other reason, final instalment going to come out next year might watch it in the Cinema

The best action oriented movie with a female lead is Kill Bill

Did that have a female lead? that guy did come off as a bit of a girl though :))) second part had a female lead, it was a pretty good movie but the reviews weren't that great which was a bit of a surprise

Saat Uchekkey

A very good low budget movie.

Dialogues are awesome , fast paced script . No where it stagnates.

Very good performance from the whole cast !

8 / 10

Yeah kids and violence rarely get good reviews. It was very diff from superhero movies in its own way.

Can anyone recommend me any good Romance movies ??

apparently I have too much time these days after office hours :D

The little Prince

Its based on a classic old french children's book. I had not read the book or knew anything about the story so maybe my take on the movie could be different from someone who has read the book and has their own concept of how a movie based on the book should look like. I always find it hard to like the movies based on books which I have already read.

First of all the animation is absolutely gorgeous, especially the stop motion part. Its a heart warming story about a young girl whose mother is one of our typical parents, trying their best to prepare the kid and push them as hard as they can to be accepted at some prestigious school. The mother has planned the child's whole life with each minute meticulously marked with an activity or learning task on an elaborate calendar, in order to prepare for the school's entrance test. The little girl end up moving to a new house and making friends with a old hippie man who is her neighbor. Their relationship starts the process of imagination for the girl. She starts to look at life and her childhood as something magical and precious, not to be wasted learning thick text books.

The old man tells her a story about a little boy he met when he crashed his plane in a dessert as a young man. The boy is the little Prince who used to live on a tiny planet all by himself and who fell in love with a rose on the island. The Prince end up fleeing the planet and meeting different characters along the way, played by an amazing ensemble cast, and finally running into the young pilot.

A beautifully made movie with a lot of heart. It's amazing how watching a stop motion animated character with limited facial expressions but hauntingly alluring and exquisite features can bring out so much emotions. Aesthetically, the movie achieves what regular movies struggle to accomplish. A complete immersion into the child like world of fantasy and wonder. I highly recommend it, caught it on Neflix.

"All grown-ups were once children...but only few of them remember it" - The Little Prince

Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. Great movie. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. I think Romance is my least favourite genre but there are quite a few good ones out there. Any reason why you wanna watch a romantic film? ;-)

I know you have seen a lot of stuff so i would give you plenty of names hoping that you would find something.

10 things i hate about you, 50 first dates, there is something about mary, Forgetting Sarah Marshal, we're the millers, Knocked Up, Office space, Shakespeare in Love, Ferries Bueller's day off.

And if you don't mind black & white then Paper Moon and Harvey. These two movies are classic and my personal favorites.

Lmao stay away from them Romance movies bruh! they're not mood lifting, I went through a phase where I watched them for a couple of months a while back wasn't a great idea :))

Watched Angry Birds recently and it was hilarious.

It was kind of hit and miss, but the parts which they executed well, those were hilarious and I couldn't stop laughing.

Heard they are making a sequel, which is great news and really looking forward to it.
