Where's the swing for Mohammad Amir?

What you people are failing to realize is that if the fielders had taken the catches off of Aamir's bowling, Aamir would have had 7 or 8 wickets by now which is double what the other bowlers barring Shah have taken.

No he wouldn't because many of the catches were of the same batsman and you will not get double wickets for same batsman. I thought people were saying he is an ATG and best in the world and not that he is better than Rahat and Riaz which no one will disagree with

He is making a come back after 6 years and still bowled much better than other Pakistani bowlers! Cut him some slack fgs.

Even at this stage he will easily make in to the SA, NZ teams and lead the pace attack of WI, India, Bangladesh and SL.

Yes.

Waqar Younis is absolutely frustrated by what is going on with Mohammad Amir.. According to Waqar, he is bowling too wide to the crease

So called atg bowler struggling again. I thought he was going to get better with each match but that doesn't seem to be the case. He should be dropped for the next game.

If he can't get wickets on a day 1 England pitch...

for the Amir haters, what has Broad and Anderson done this series? Theres hardly any swing for any of them...

Pfft...averages 30+ in his career, 40+ on this tour, and can't seem to take wickets when it matters.

Harsh...he is a fantastic bowler. This pitch is docile for seamers.

Yet we never give that excuse for batsmen: "Oh leave him, the pitch was green." Never. He is rightly slaughtered for his performances.

Amir is just reverting to type. If he was that good, his stats would show as much. They don't.

He was doing this a few weeks ago so the ability is still there - god knows what has happened in this test though.

We all were lead to believe that Amir is a superior bowler than those two, the second coming of Wasim and even better than Steyn.

Broad averages 25 and Anderson averages 20 this series when compared to Amir's 39.

Wait for the English tail to start then Amir will scrap a couple of wickets and improve his stats.

I am not defending amir but with regards to stuart broad i can safely say those numbers flatter him..
He hasnt swung the ball at all and has looked largely innocuous . Credit to him for bowling decent areas often enough though.

Simple answer to this should be...I think he may be trying to bowl too quick. The seam position upon release is jumbled. Even Rahat has the seam upright.

for the Amir haters, what has Broad and Anderson done this series? Theres hardly any swing for any of them...

Braod despite not getting much swing has been much better than Amir. Anderson has swung the ball both ways. Amir has been the worst bowler from either side in this series and should be dropped for the next game.

He has fitness Problems.

1. His legs are not strong enough currently and grounds are heavy underneath. As the tour has progressed his speeds have dipped.

2. Rashid & M Wasim suspect that he is carrying a niggle.

3. Because of not having peak fitness like last Emgland tour plus technical issues with action with not using his non bowling hand completely and not having a strong follow through. This means He is neither bowling that quickly as previously and he cannot pitch the ball in fuller length or slighly short of fuller zone areas. ( kamar poori nai lag rai )

4. Plus he is unable to consistently bowl in same areas with control on runs where than he can work the batsman and also experiment.

5. Another key thing is absense of Waqar or Aqib or somebody good enough in the dressing room. 3 tests are gone and even prior to the series this should have been figured out rather 2 months before the series but they could not.

Amir is unable to bowl the delivery that leaves the right hander or goes straight with the angle with upright seam. He just has an inswinger. He has lost that delivery which got him Tendulkar's wicket plus kept batsman guessing about what He is going to bowl next and create doubts in batsmam mind whether its inswing or outswing. Now what he does is that his natural wrist lock is for inswing so he can't unlock it to bowl a seam up delivery with seam facing first slip or atleast be straight. So whenever he does not want to inswing he bowls a mini offcutter with scrambled seam. Now this delivery is slightly slow than his already slow speeds plus the batsman picks what he is doing as the seam is very scramled and not wobbly. So the batsman can easily leave it.

This is a huge failure of Sleeping Fast Bowling Coach who is getting highly paid but his output is absolutely Zero. Shameeeeeeeeeee.

Having said that this does not mean that Amir is finished or He can never bowl like 2010 ever again. But close your eyes and think of that Amir. He used to ask tough questions from batsmam every 2nd ball. Natural length was full or slighly short of full length. And accuracy of aimed lines and lengths. Now accuracy of line and length aren't like previous plus he is not able to bowl up to the batsman and relying totally on single swing.

Amir bowled better against Somerset than he has done in this series plus those 4 dropped catches have also stolen much needed confidence booster from him.

After that Terrific Jaw dropping spell against India in Asia Cup where all felt that Amir of 2010 is back again, his graph has gone down rather than going up.

Pakistan badly needed Waqar to help Amir. Now he has to do all himself if he can to revive his old bowling with technical & physical improvements because there is no one at NCA either to work on the issues I have highlighted.

Amir should call Waqar and talk to him about his bowling. (Technical sides)

Oooohhhh Amir hope somebody tweets you link of this thread and you read my post in your hotel :)

We must back him and believe in him but only backing and believing won't solve the issues.

Hmmmmmmm

This must be why he was the fastest bowler in first innings and again in second innings and his inconsistent line and length must be why he was the most economical in both innings thus far

Great analysis

Non existent wickets and floating average though at 30.

Amir is slowly but surely going down the Junaid Khan road..

No swing no seam, gun barrel straight to hales..
The amir of 2010 bent his back more and bowled with a higher pace.

This amir has burnt our already, is bowling within himself, doesnot look threatening at all

The only difference is Junaid actually never got to play on seaming tracks.. and got all of his 5'fers in flat Uae and Sri Lankan tracks

Well Well Well i don't know what you are upto.

I am compairing Amir with the Amir who made Cricket Pundets jump out of their seats saying Wowww and praising him as most talented skillful under 25 bowler of World Cricket when he was 18 only.

And You are compairing him with Rahat & Sohail and their speeds and their bowling.

I hope you can read average & strike rates as well as no. of wickets.

Finally. Amir in 2009 Test tour of Australia was not fast medium he was Left Arm Fast and He operated between 86 to 93 mph. He passed 150 kph barrier 4-5 times and he was only 17-18. His fastest ball was 154 kph. 80 % of his deliveries were abpve 85 mph. Currently only 15 % are above 85mph. That pace was only seen in 1 match of Asia Cup which was a T20 match. Otherwise since his comeback we haven't seen that pace in any other Odi, T20 or Test Match. Still if you want to compare his speeds than compare with Woakes & Finn not with Rahat or Sohail.

Raise your bench mark. Amir has to be compared with Amir who left Us in 2010 not will " Lallu Panjooz " (No Offence)

Surprised by the ATG for Asif. I mean yeah he was on his way to becoming one, but going by your posts, you are too young to remember any of what happened back in 2010.

He was never overrated. They rated only what they saw. Be it be

Wasim, Imran, Ponting, Holding, Strauss, Vaughan, Lara, Sachin, Nasser, Atherton, Bill Lawry, Ian Chappel, Tony Cozier, Richie Benaud, Mark Tailor or Ian Healy you name it.

They only described what they saw and the kid was 17-18 only with 50 test wickets ? With wickets of top batsman of time ? With absolute beauties ?

I think they all also had 2 eyes to see and overating wouldn’t have paid them extra for their job and the lad not from majority of thems countryman for them to pump nationalism into it.

Amir at 18 was something special,
Amir bowling in Bangladesh against India looked special

Amir this series has been ordinary, a decent bowler

I notice that in this series he has always swung the ball more with the second new ball compared to the first new ball.

I would love to hear what Chief Destroyer has to say about this.

There is some swing but the line and length isn't all that good on swing. Keep working.

@Covict

Brother Can you discuss how Amir can revive his Seam up delivery to right handers which used to swing little bit away or just go with the angle ?

See the deliveries which got him test wickets of Pieterson, Prior & Swann ? (6 wickets haul spell)

Currently his wrist is not unlocking and batsman immediately picks the deliveries which are aimed to go across as the seam is very scrambled and the delivery is a mini offcutter with fingers and wrist not behind it.

Why is it happening ? How to fix it ?

Do you agree that it is quite possible to revive it ?

I would love to hear what Chief Destroyer has to say about this.

There are no fitness or technical issues. Most of it is rust. He does need a bowling coach like Waqar to guide him in different conditions and discuss plans for different batsmen.

Watch Amir dismissing Right hand batsman 6 years ago where batsman were caught by wk or slip cordon.

That delivery is not in armoury at the moment.

Imagine Ajmal without a doosra.

But its possible to revive it and i have faith in him.

Glad that Amir is using his non bowling arm better and bowling closer to the stumps. Running in straighter and bowling better length and better line too.

Now he needs to revive pace and seam up delivery leaving right handers.

He is actually swinging the ball.

But this is not like the wet summer of 2010 & the wickets are not green either. It won't swing like that time. Also, swing is something, often it happens, rather than bowlers making it. May be few adjustments in his wrist position is required, but I don't see much problem. Besides, he is bowling to players easily the best in world against swinging balls - same 4 Test even against Aussies or Indians on similar context, we could have seen different figures. I in fact, feel that Jimmi & Berbi has bowled poorly in this series than Aamir - when you take the new ball against MoHa-Shaan, you shouldn't feel satisfied if the score board doesn't read 10/2 every time.

These days, bowlers bowl in 3 formats, therefore in shorter formats often they are forced to bowl with indifferent grips, wrist position which is not helpful for someone making a come back after 6 years, without playing much FC cricket. One interesting observation is, since Wasim, the best 3 swing bowlers I have seen - 2 are awful in ODI compared to their Test status (Styen & Asif), & the 3rd one left ODI after being man-handelled by Aussies. The 4th potential one now doesn't make the Indian team, even when they are playing 3 seemers - may be it's not that easy out there.

When I read posts in PP, sometimes I regret lot - shouldn't have left Cricket for studies; this game is so easy that couple of years practice & may be I could have been Jaque Kallis easily.

Thanks for your insight, always a pleasure to read your posts. Yes, you are definitely right that these pitches are not wet and green unlike 2010. As far as he best swing bowlers are concerned, it seems like you rank Kumer over Anderson. Any particular reason? And lastly, your knowledge on cricket is very much in high quality and through all aspects of the game. Have you ever thought of or coached before?

I don't - you have missed the trick. Jimmi was one who went for 102 in 9 (or 10) overs in his last (?) ODI, I believe.

BK was a decent prospect, but he can't even make the Indian team, because swing at 120km doesn't threat much.

In this series i have observed he has gotten more swing with the second new ball compared to the first new ball but the difference is that he has appeared gassed when bowling with the second new ball, his speeds are lower and he is unable to make the most of it.

B Kumar doesn't swing it too much now that he has upped his pace to 135+, who was the 3rd bowler you are talking about?

Barring one or two innings, he's actually been getting better. He's the only one bowling to a plan too, and consistently.

No surprise by the hate, there's plenty to jump the bandwagon and create threads, and reply to posts to make a point of it.

If he is missing Waqar, too bad then. Waqar will not be around all the time to pamper him and spoon-feed him.

He has to stand up for the team himself and he is not doing it. Got wet as soon as Bairstow and Moeen to the attack to him in the post-Tea session.

He conceded 2 4s in 3 overs one of which was when Yasir misfielded at Gully.

Amir bowled well and got two good wickets that got us back into the match. But what happened to 'wicket taker' Rahat Ali lol? Where's the consistency of experienced test bowler?

You're right, I misread and assumed when you brought up Australia you meant Starc.

The convicted spot fixer has bowled ok but a little unlucky with catches (like Finn). However he was never the next Wasim Akram. That was just lazy analysis by Pakistani fans who perhaps never saw Wasim.

The next George Best....the next Ian Botham......blah.....blah

His height is a big issue which is why he doesn't generate that much bounce of his deliveries.

Definitely Aamir is the best Pakistani pacer on this tour so far. Rahat, Wahab are the two who looked ordinary most of the times.

I also think so. He will be in different league as a bowler after one year.

Hes been bowling pretty good If you actually watch the match. He should have at least 5 more wickets... I think he has had 6 dropped catches overall in this series.

That is likely to be the consensus amongst most neutral observers as well as experts (excluding Sohail Khan, who will probably end up sitting out the last match due to lack of stamina).

TalentSpotterPk I don't think fitness is the issue. He has bowled more overs, at higher average pace than any other bowler on both sides. If he was not fit enough, he would have break down by now.

There are many factors, part technical, part rhythm, part conditions and wicket. When you get good conditions or weak opposition, you get back into rhythm quickly. Look at Woaks, his confidence was raised in last few tests, he was helped by bowling to weak top order of both SL and Pakistan. Against SL, he was bowling in early summer that means more wet conditions, more swing. His confidence shot up two notches after Lord test, half of those wickets were gifted by us...OT and this Edgbaston have nothing in them, nobody was able to swing, except first day.

Amir's major problems are:

1. Not able to find the fuller length, length is most important thing in England.
2. He is bowling too wide of crease, this makes it more difficult to cut the ball in, you have to be closer to stump.
3. Back spin in the wrist, or flick of the wrist is not same as before or even when he bowled in BD few months ago. That's where he was getting the late swing. He needs to make adjustment to his action, there is something off from ball one in Lords, it was not same as even in Summerset match, he was closer to stump and had back spin in his wrist...

Please don't exaggerate.. Rahat Ali also has had drops so it's not a conspiracy against Amir.

There are no technical differences from 2010 Amir to the current one. His lead arm was marginally higher and extended a bit more but that was mainly due to the rhythm he was bowling with. He's done that in small periods here when he's bowled with his legs under him.

Nope, I did not see him bowling closer to stump.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The day before yesterday, Mushi worked with him in morning session and was telling to bowl from closer the stumps, not wide.

But still he is not doing what he was told.

He is bowling alright, on unhelpful conditions. On such conditions sticking to great line and length shows he has the ability to grind it out when conditions did not suite him. He is demonstrating he has two gears. Pakistan should be happy if they have a bowler who gives 2.7 runs an over and averages 39 on wickets that haven't done much. That kin d of bowler will always give them control over the innings.

He may possibly have a niggle. At this accuracy if he hits 140-145 regularly he will be a force to recon with.

Perhaps it is time to acknowledge that he has been a bit of a disappointment.

The convicted spot fixer has bowled ok but a little unlucky with catches (like Finn). However he was never the next Wasim Akram. That was just lazy analysis by Pakistani fans who perhaps never saw Wasim.

The next George Best....the next Ian Botham......blah.....blah
These titles are never ful-filled anyway. Perfect way of putting any young player on the spot and making him insecure about his credentials tbh. Amir will improve obviously, but hopefully he doesn't draw such stupid comparisons whatever he does im the futute.

I think he has swung it well whole series. The difference is that he was angling it in so obviously he won't get the daddy inswinger, it will be a more Southee-like delivery.

He hasn't set the batsman up this series. He has been too predictable with his swing. I haven't seen him mix it up like 3-4 outswingers followed by a sharp inswinger to the left hander. He has not made the batsman play enough, they have left his deliveries comfortably outside off stump and ofcourse he has struggled to bowl longer spells. Maybe some technical issues as well

Bumble on air Amir stats without 5 dropped catches this series is an average of 25 with 16 wickets.

But some of the drops were batsmen he later went on to get out. So how can he have the same wicket twice?

Why cant he get some other batsman out instead of those who he already got...what kind of logic is this ?
